That sounds nonsensical. Who organized this tournament the TTFA?  ::)

Am I missing something?

How could ACPOS be eliminated after three games. Isn't this a home and away competition?

Football / Re the U 20 WC in Argentina
« on: May 30, 2023, 08:40:18 AM »
I have a roommate who played football in Nigeria. He is studying in Toronto and playing College soccer here. He has trials with two European clubs this summer.

He is 23 and told me if he had stayed in Nigeria he would have been on the present U 20 team in Argentina. ;-)

He added that is cousin is a starter on the team and is 25 LOL.

He said one of the reasons FIFA can't ascertain these things is that many Nigerian don't have proper nutrition so their bones don't reflect their proper age. Whereas I understand that,  his family is comfortable and certainly well fed but when he casually told me about the ages on the team I had to laugh. I don't feel so badly now about the cut tail that those African teams give TT and Canada.

I was reading the newspapers today and understand there is now a Big Five tournament.

I am confused. If we have league Champs what is the purpose of  a Big Five? Or is this just another attempt to make money.

What about Track & Field / Re: Commonwealth Games 2022
« on: August 03, 2022, 09:43:17 AM »
It's really time to rethink these ' Common Wealth Games'  seems now like a glorification of  an old British colonial empire hosting those who were once colonized!!!!
Is this reason to celebrate and host? Should this  even exist under this banner? In the opening  ceremonies- even had to sign ' God Save the Queen"

I recalled even  in standard 7 back in the days lining up in rows and standing in teh hot sun to sing this at school. I refused- and quickly  teacher playing  colonial master  cracked a whip on my arse for not singing!!!!

Why do I need to glorify the  royal masters who reigned domination over the colonizers? and today with this realization I watch  these games with a new awakening of what it symbolize- just my opinion

There is nothing wrong with the games. It is just that our sports sucks and we don't or can't even win bronze medals. At one time it was real important. But now it has be relegate a tier down. The World TF championship is more important, at least for TF athletes. Evn PanAm games has dropped to tiers. But it is important that our athletes participate.

General Discussion / Re: Fatima days
« on: July 22, 2022, 10:39:56 AM »

Was looking up the name of a Fatima teacher on google and this thread came up.  ;D

I had two books published last yr., one is chok full of anecdotes re Fatima and certain students.

One that I had to include was two different stories involving different students (i) some men who macco a bull through a hole in somebody roof, a white man was on top of an Indian woman. One of the students putll out he C** and start to jock while the white man bulling. Both of them come together and he break on the white man back.. (ii) the other some fellas I know used to macco bull at a local whore house on dey lunch break, they get catch and the bouncers almost kill dem but they bolt. Some of them are well known today so I will not embarass them. I think one on this forum. For the sake of literary license, I put the same characters in both stories.

A big falling out I had with Mother Frog.

Durj benching me for a week.

Certain teachers who like to skin up for man.

And of course some lyrics about Totie Head. ;-)

The man who feel up Zakour and get bench.

Memories of Pantin, his legendary status and just as legendary blows.

I believe there are some clips on youtube.

His son in law played William Hogg played FC cricket and his grandson Kyle played for the England youth team and was considered unlucky not to get picked for England before he retired due to injury.

Morning Breds. So I spoke to Lucus-Walker's dad, Gerard, this morning. He said that he heard that  these 4 players were chosen at this moment. He said that the TTFA is still open to the others players. They have not shut the door on anyone.  But they have the budgetary issues.  They have not closed the door for the older players. Again money is an big issue. They are looking at the U-20 qualifications at this moment, and the Concacaf Nations league. Which brings up the over 20 players. His son Toafik is 24 and the coaches in TT knows him and are aware of his abilities. So there is the possibility of him getting a call up. He said that he is playing USL2 for NOVA FC( formerly Northern Virginia Royals). He said that they were about to sign up for a club in Wales, but the Covid pandemic cut that out. He said that he tried out with Miami FC, but it did not work out. They are still pushing for MLS or MLS2. That's it.

Taofik is 24 and playing in a league that is semipro at best, consists mostly of college players, and runs for about three months. Why would that translate into a call up to the senior team? Is our national team some kinda fall-back option now?

I heard that 4 players were selected from the combine trials for the U20 playoffs in Honduras. Curtis Deleon, Wayne Fredericks Jr. , Noah Roka, Tyrell Moore.

Just curious is Deleon related Leroy Deleon.
Is Moore related to the Tobagonian Wendelle Moore?

Not every day you could Buss a Tallest  ;D

Jeffery and Victor Stollmeyer

https://www.stabroeknews.com/2021/11/30/sports/will-anyone-join-the-stollmeyers/

All of the above mentioned had outstanding performances playing together for their respective countries but the only brothers with centuries in the same regional first-class matches are Victor and Jeffrey Stollmeyer. Opening the batting against Barbados at Queen’s Park Oval in January of 1942, Skipper Victor Stollmeyer scored 121 while his younger brother Jeffrey scored 106. This opening partnership propelled Trinidad to a first innings total of 367 all out. Barbados made 229 all out in their first innings. Barbados batting a second time in this historic clash were all out for 241 leaving Trinidad to score 105 for Victory. The Stollmeyers knocked off the runs with skipper Victor not out on 52 and Jeffrey not out 43. There were 10 extras to hasten Barbados’ demise. Another set of Trinidad siblings came close of emulating the Stollmeyers’ feat. Charlie and Bryan Davis against British Guiana at Rose Hall Berbice from October 13-16 in 1961.

Charlie Davis, on debut at age 17, scored 127 in Trinidad’s first innings of 257 all out. In their second innings he scored 97. His elder brother Bryan was also dismissed for 97. Guess who was the British Guiana bowler that dismissed the Davis siblings just three short from joining their compatriots. The Legendary and iconic Lance Gibbs. Bryan was leg before wicket while Charlie still talks about that heart breaking catch that Glendon Gibbs took off the bowling of his unrelated namesake.

I rememberin the mid 80s hearing feedback from a TT U-14 team that went to Mexico.

The game had to stopped at times because they were bleeding from the nose and they had to be given oxygen.
