Sounds to me like fitness will be a significant factor in National team selection.

So let's see. 3 automatic spots for the hosts. And 4 - 4.5 spots between uncaf and cfu. My guess 2 for uncaf. 2 - 2.5 for cfu
More like 3 uncaf and 1.5 cfu
No way they giving CFU so many spots.

Nice goals by Molino but RSL real lapsing on defense.

Analyze that 2nd goal:

  • Defence outnumbered due to counter attack.  Early ball from Molino to right winger in stride
  • 2 attackers move forward into penalty area drawing 2 defenders to them
  • Molino is the trailer completely unmarked
  • Right Winger has little to no pressure on him to cross the ball.  Has time to look up and put a pin point cross to the trailer.
  • Nice finish.  Goal.

Put T&T in that same situation:

  • Defence outnumbered due to counter attack.  Early ball from Molino to right winger in stride
  • 2 attackers move forward into penalty area drawing 2 defenders to them
  • Molino is the trailer completely unmarked
  • Right Winger has little to no pressure on him to cross the ball.  Either overhits the cross, missing his attackers....or manages to play the cross into the defender
  • Attackers and crowd peltin bare cuss.

I hope we can qualify...But it will take more than prayers at this space in time
The sabotage is in full effect...We will only know if the challenge has been accepted when we play Panama...The first sour note and it's on to the rebuilding phase for Tallest

Fellas,

Read through this thread. Can someone explain to me why our local-based team cannot be exceptionally fit? I understand there may be shortcomings in talent etc., but fitness seems like the lowest hanging fruit. Especially before the qualifiers if the pro league is in off season. These guys should be in camp for a 4 to 6 weeks and in prime condition. What makes one team fitter than another? Does it just come down to physical ability again?

Because most people don't fully understand just what it takes to achieve that!

70

“I was advised by the doctors at the San Fernando General Hospital to do surgery,” Glen told Wired868. “[Dr Terence] Babwah said after three or four weeks I can play with it [using] a soft cast. I saw doctors [in India too] and they decided I needed surgery.

Glen did not discuss the TTFA debt and said he had no regrets about his return to national colours but admitted that he should not have played against Haiti, due to his physical condition at the time.
Ever the maverick, the former North East Stars and San Jabloteh attacker said he will defy doctor’s advice and not return to the operating table.

Oh no!  Will Dr Babwah resign over this?

He's a man who's ethical in his profession in regards to player's health, a profound professional so you should expect a resignation letter soon.
Jan thought he could've played and he played - Glenn thought he should not have played and he played.
Nah. He was going to but Saintfiet beat him to it!!!  ;D

I am very happy for him and he appears to have rehabilitated himself and is now on the right path. However, when you break the law knowingly and willfully, it is not just a mistake, it is a crime. So, use your opportunity well, brother!

Yuh read the article? He "allegedly" robbed a casino.. Charges were dropped. Knowing the police in TT, he was probably held by mistake. So your comment regarding his rehabilitation and " on the right path", also makes him guilty. Which he isn't. ..

But in the same article the player himself admits to having let himself be "influenced to do the wrong thing" and later  to being "sorry for what he has done" and called it a "foolish mistake".

I'm glad to see he's recognized his mistake(s) and has pledged to do better and I wish him the best. This guy could be real role model for plenty back home.

What's more alarming is the fact the DJW considered Hart to coach W Connection

Who say he consider him?  Because the name was put forth doesn't mean it was considered  ;D

That was then. This is now.

Would have loved to see this system employed with Joevin now and Carlos in his prime as the wingbacks, but alas if wishes were horses...

Joevin WAS used as a wingback under Hart

Problem was.....he hardly ever used to track back

And to those who say he does it for his club......he doesn't track back that much.  When he plays wing back for Seattle....he's more of a stay at home defender.  Now...that limits his effectiveness going forward but Seattle has enough quality in the attacking third to overcome that.

Later in the season....Seattle began using Joevin in the same way that Hart was using him for the national team...as a wide sided left midfielder.

In the MLS final....Joevin hardly overlapped.  His role was clearly defined i.e. stay at home....and essentially Seattle used the THREAT of Joevin going forward as a counter to Toronto FC's own wide players taking too many liberties going down his side.

At the end of the day....it comes down to 2 things:

Personnel.....T&T has relatively fewer attacking options if JJ plays as wing back which puts more pressure on midfield and defence, compared to Seattle.

JJ's willingness to fully perform the role for club vs country

Something to bear in mid....he was damned well effective in that "higher up the pitch" role for T&T against Guatemala.  Without that, we wouldn't be in the Hex.

I'm aware that JJ was used that way by SH. I was just fantasizing about having BOTH Carlos and JJ at their best, in those roles at the same time!  :beermug:

Football / Re: Individual Technique and Tactics: Soccer Coaches Dissection
« on: February 02, 2017, 02:29:40 PM »
You say they can't fix technique when they are already at senior level, but all european pro players work on technique everyday. Maybe if a player is so far behind on something then it may be impossible to catch up, but you see even seasoned pros make incremental improvements. Just look at somebody at the highest level -  Messi - his free kick-taking ability and overall shooting technique have improved tremendously.

The thing i find we struggle with that the national coach can't improve is fitness.

The thing about Messi and those guys is that they are CONSTANTLY working on improving themselves and their technique, not JUST when they come to National team training before a match. Also these guys are typically working on more advanced techniques not improving basics. Case in point I remember an article where a coach at ManU (think it was Queiroz) was talking about a drill he developed for Ronaldo where he would receive a pass with his back to goal and he then had to name a spot (e.g. top right, bottom left, centre high) and without looking turn and shoot for that spot.

Eve makes case for training local coaches abroad.
By Mark Pouchet (Express).

Former national senior team player and current coach of Club Sando, Angus Eve implored the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association to come up with programmes to develop local coaches so they can contribute to the national junior, youth and senior teams.

And while the man who also coaches Naparima College saluted the appointment of Dennis Lawrence as the new national senior team boss, he lamented that more opportunities were not being sought for the home-based coaches.

“Currently, I don't see the local coaches will get involved; when you look at the picture as a local coach looking in, it doesn't seem that you would get opportunities,” Eve said, adding that coaches like W Connection's Stuart Charles-Fevrier and Digicel Pro League treble title-seeking Central FC Coach Dale Saunders are coaches eligible to contribute at lower levels.

“There are youth teams, even if the local coaches don't get opportunities at senior level because we understand that most of us don't have that sort of experience, but you can groom them in the junior levels,” Eve said. “We have all the coaches that are coaching in the (Pro) League and doing well in the league and not being given the opportunity at national level.

Tell me dahis not the entire article. Potatoes without de meat.

Yea, that wasn't the full article, I dont have a subscription to the Express.

The only decision that was made correctly by the ttfa ....

She has my support but even the previous coach had it as well.. she will do a good job or should if the dictator doesn't interfere

The question is, why isn't the men's program equally important ?

Happy the ladies will be getting a good coach.. the only good news in a while

I disagree she might be a decent coach but you have to think about about a couple of things
Who had more connections to coaches in American Universities ....the US college system ranks amongst the highest level of play for women
and young women under Pellerud would have had a chance at more quality coaching and a good education.

This is not a question of one coach vs another. It's a matter of the TTFA having actually put in place a comprehensive program for the development of women's football in T&T using an accomplished and recognised coach who was also a top player in the game. I'll take that any day and I think they need to be commended for that. Remember, in between Waldrum being released and the announcement of this program we had nothing. This is a BIG step in the right direction.

Hmmm... What jack wants...?

... Jack used to get. :P

Yuh was saying...

Warner: TTFA boss should resign too.
By Stephon Nicholas & Jelani Beckles (Newsday).

Former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner has called on president of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) David John-Williams to follow Belgian Tom Saintfiet out the door.
...

They should fire him now. The guy has poor judgement, he doesn’t understand football...He believes football is of course like Nescafe - quick fix. He doesn’t know that in football there is no quick fix. There is instant coffee, there is instant chocolate, there is not instant in football.” Warner believes Saintfiet was asked to resign after losing three out of his first four matches with the team not gelling and squabbles with several senior players.

Is there anything the current TTFA boss could do to get football back on the right track? “Except to resign and to appoint a coach as Dennis Lawrence to guide the football for the next five years,” Warner replied.

Lawrence, who headed the winning goal against Bahrain 12 years ago to get T&T to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, has made a name for himself in England as an assistant coach to ex-Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

Also interesting piece of news out of the press conference.

And there was an inkling of discord over the process today as technical committee chairman Dexter Skeene did not show up for the unveiling as was initially proposed by the TTFA over a week ago.

John-Williams confirmed that Skeene, his vice-chairman Alvin Henderson and Errol Lovell, a former national goalkeeper, all resigned last week, which represents exactly half of the board. He said no reason was given for their resignations and the football body is yet to replace them.

Mass resignation on the technical committee

Probably related to the fact that Dennis was chosen despite their recommendations.

Interesting that they NOW decide to resign while all the while staying silent during the hiring of Saintfiet.

So is either they DID in fact recommend Saintfiet, in which case, they should all be FIRED

OR

They had no input in the hiring of Saintfiet, and by staying silent, allowed themselves to be publicly ridiculed by the TTFA President when he said is the Technical Committee that hires coaches.

Like they taking tips from Babwah and Isaac

My feeling, something along those lines. They were presented with Saitnfiet as the guy to do the job so they went with that, then got hung out to dry when DJW say he was their recommendation. So after that they decide to actually do they homework then they get dey hand slapped twice more when the board pull dem up for overstepping dey bounds on affordability of the coach, then de board disregard dey pick and hire DL... rest is history.

Good points but more importantly, they will now be replaced with his yes men...no opposition, no resistance to his decisions

Remember this is the same group that selected DJW's preference of SCF for head coach. Replacing these guys with yes men is not likely to have much effect as long as the board, which overruled the technical committee's choice, does its job effectively and don't allow themselves to be pushed around by DJW (or led around by the nose either).
