National Under 17 football matches postponed

Thursday, January 1st 2009

The planned trial matches featuring the National Under 17 team and a Tobago Football Association Under 17 Representative team had to be postponed because the coordinators for the games could not secure confirmed travelling arrangements from Caribbean Airlines.

Harvey Jack, president for the Tobago Football Association told the Tobago News that they are hoping to reschedule the games for Sunday and Monday, once they can secure confirmed travelling arrangements.

The games were arranged after the National coaches Anton Corneal and Mike McComie were impressed with what they saw at a trial for Tobago players and felt they needed to see more of the players before making a final judgment on who will be called for trials.

Coaches impress with players

Thursday, December 25th 2008

National Under 17 coaches Anton Corneal and Mike McConey were impressed with what they saw at a trial session for Under 17 players at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, last Friday.

Over 30 players turned up for the session and they were given a number of fundamental drills to do. They also participated in a scrimmage game.

However, the coaches did not select any players to start attending trials in the New Year for the National Under 17 team that will begin early preparations for the CONCACAF Qualifiers for the upcoming World Cup Finals.

Because of the limited time that the coaches had and because they were impressed with what they saw, Corneal decided to set up two games for the Tobago players with the National team before inviting players to trials.

The games will be played at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Sunday and Monday.

Skeene,

The ESPN poeple should and probably would ask you the following questions:

1. How big is your fan base?
2. What are you and the clubs doing to increase your fan base?
3. Why most of the football supporters in T&T don't identify with the football clubs?
4. How many teams play in the communities they represent?
5. How many teams have built mini stadiums in their communities or have plans to do so in the near future?
6. Why most of the teams are not named after the communities they represent?
7. Explain the names Ma Pau, WConnection, Joe Public, United Petrotrin (United Company?).
8. What are you and the clubs doing to improve the coaches - at all levels - in the league?

Then the ESPN people should run your dense ass out of their office. Your league doesn't even have a committed fan base amid local football lovers;yet you want a TV deal from ESPN. What ESPN gets in return?

FIX SOME AH THE FUNDAMENTAL BULLSHIT FIRST NAH!!

Wim is taking alot of hits to this day. That's fair. And I don't begrudge anyone for expressing their opinion.
I believe Wim - taking into account the little time we have to prepare for the Hex - is the perfect man to replace Maturana and all the Corneals.

Wim knows the strengths and weaknesses of every local player in the Pro League. It is well documented that he spent alot of his spare time studying the league and its players. Wim knows which local players to take to war and which ones he has to leave for the local coaches to "develop."

Beenhakker said, and I paraphrase, our local players have a difficult time making the TRANSITION from the Pro League  to the concacaf level because they are not punished, on the field, for the silly errors they make in the Pro League. How long did it take Beenhakker to reach that conclusion? Not long! I am not a football expert, but I believe him.

Alot of people believe Maturana  has expanded our pool and he is developing our players. Fair. But I believe you can slice it and dice it anyhow you want. FACT is we have a small pool, and Maturana and Corneal have showed they are not sure about which of the locals to take to war. Maturana and Anton aren't as adept at analysing our locals as Wim and Beenhakker. Hence the reason they are using the technique of trial and error at this late stage of the game.

I say bring back Wim, irrespective of what happens in the Digecel cup.

Jah,

How do you rate Vranes as a coach? From what I have read he seems to be defensive and likes to counterattack. I don't perceive him as someone that likes to possess the ball. Am I wrong?

Respect.
From what I've heard he a decent coach. He instills discipline and despite the fact that he hasn't mastered english he communicates well with players.

Thanks Jah.  :beermug:

Jamaica 2099,

Let me tell you  a little secret. T&T are going back to the world cup before Jamaica. I am willing to put my money where my mouth is , 3,000.00 US dollars.
Keep it. You're going to need it to pay for your medical fee when you lapse into a stroke on the same day. ;D

1  I am a young healthy vibrant man.
2  I don't put money on the table unless I can afford it. Read The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason.
3  You have showed me that you aren't cock sure that T&T will finish "5 of 6" in the Hex. I tested you and you failed badlly.
4  You are scared otherwise you would have picked up the money I put on the table.

Excuse me for taking so long to respond. I just came home from wuk. Enjoy the Hex!!

I am a Jamaican. You are a Trini. And as such 2 totally different individuals that know exactly nothing about each other. Otherwise, I'm stumped that someone giving the impression of a healthy, vibrant and rich young man seem to have no weight of the world on his shoulder.

I'm sorry, but unlike you I'm a deeply flawed human being.
You could say that AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

I am not rich. Never said I was rich. I referenced "The Richest Man in Babylon" to give you an idea of how I manage the money I earn. Breds I work hard, but I don't live pay check to pay check anymore. Again, read the "Richest Man in Babylon " and you will understand where I am coming from.

Back to football. T&T going back to the world cup before Jamaica. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.  ;D

How come Maturana talking plenty now. Even though is in spanish. He used to come across like a pomiewon. I find he confident now.

He is now starting to assert himself. I don't believe Anton and Alvin have as much control over him as they did initially. All the best to him and his staff in the final round.

I still prefer Dutch coaches, but I have to look at the big picture, and if we qualify for back to back world cups our football should benefit immensely.

MATURANA STILL MAKING CHANGES

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Francisco Maturana is again likely to make changes to his 18-man squad for the November 19 World Cup qualifier against Cuba despite having his submitted his squad to manager David Muhammad on Saturday.

The Colombian, following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Guyana, said he still had not finalized and 18-member squad. And on Monday, after a review of the match against Guyana, Maturana has made changes which will be announced in the week relating to the list of home-based players.

It is not the first time the ex-Colombia coach has had to make changes after submitting his list to management prior to public announcement.  (Nov 19, 2008)

When told that he did not select a recognised left back in his 18-man squad, Maturana replied at the post game conference . “Three behind is not my style. I want to always be advancing because that’s how I like to play.”

“If we look at the people who play the top styles of football in the world, like Italy they play with four. France, Portugal, Germany, Manchester, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Milan all play with four so why now we have to play with three.

He remarked, “It’s something of delight, but I like to play with four players at the back because its more sharing of the ball.

Further pressed to clarify his 18-man team selection for the Cuba clash, Maturana, who seemed a bit confused, said: “One thing you can say that there is none, but we have here Aklie Edwards, Avery John and Lyndon Diaz.”

JONES ADDED TO 18-MAN SQUAD TO FACE CUBA

Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones has been included in an 18-man squad announced by National Team head coach Francisco Maturana for the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Cuba at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on November 19.

Jones, recently back from a knee injury was not called upon initially for international duty since making a return to the Sunderland team last month, being given the necessary time to settle back into the game after the lengthy lay off. But Jones on Saturday made himself available, expressing his interest in returning to international duty for T&T in the encounter against Cuba. Maturana and his staff along with the TTFF willingly invited the big striker for the affair.

Jones now joins Dwight Yorke, Russell Latapy (Falkirk), Carlos Edwards (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Chris Birchall (Coventry City), Clayton Ince (Walsall), Stern John (Bristol City), Jason Scotland (Swansea City), Dennis Lawrence (Swansea City), Josh Johnson (Rhyl FC) and Anthony Warner (Hull City).

TTFF Special Advisor Jack Warner welcomed Jones’ return to the national team, adding that like every other player, Jones will be well looked after while on duty for T&T.

“We are happy to have him back in the team. At first he was not called into the squad because of the fact that he was only now coming back from injury and we all know how difficult it can be a for a player to get back to his accustomed place in the starting team for  a club. We felt that it would serve him well to allow him that time.

“But when he indicated that he wanted to make a return for the Cuba game, we thought about it… Maturana and company and we went ahead with the invitation. It will give him a chance to fit back into the team before the critical matches we should have coming up next year, once of course we seal our  spot with a positive result against Cuba,” Warner told TTFF Media on Sunday.

“We were in touch on Saturday, Dwight and myself as well and both players are looking forward to the match on November 19 with a high amount of interest.”

The rest of the squad includes defenders Makan Hislop (United Petrotrin), Julius James (Toronto FC),  Seon Power and Keyeno Thomas and  midfielders Keon Daniel (United Petrotrin), Khaleem Hyland (SV Zulte Waregem), Clyde Leon (W Connection).

Jones said on the weekend that he is feeling good again.

"Things are all right with me now physically, so there's no need to make any more of it than it was. It's a long time since the injury, and you have to remember that this is football, things like this happen. It wasn't a malicious challenge so there's no point in trying to bear grudges. I'm still here and I'm still playing, so I thank God for that."

Jones played 30 minutes against Newcastle United, a full half against Stoke City and an hour against Chelsea on the comeback trail. But he was not in the team for Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Portsmouth,

"I'm slowly getting back in my own mind to being a 100 per cent fit Kenwyne Jones, mentally and physically. Whether I am fully fit or not, we will have to wait and see on the pitch – that's where you find out.”

T&T 18-man squad
1.Anthony Warner, Clayton Ince, Makan Hislop,  Dennis Lawrence, Seon Power, Keyeno Thomas,  Julius James, Dwight Yorke  Josh Johnson, Keon Daniel, Khaleem Hyland,  Carlos Edwards,  Chris Birchall, Clyde Leon, Russell Latapy,  Stern John, Kenwyne Jones, Jason Scotland

The man left us at a time when he could have made even a bigger impression on the world. He could have taken us to the Gold Cup,the Caribbean Cup and even SA 2010,with him at the helm and with our performances in 2006 WC OUR CLIMB IN WORLD FOOTBALL COULD HAVE CONTINUED.Who can doubt that we may have won the Gold Cup and Caribbean Cup.A good performance in SA under him would have been a dream. He choose to go to Poland when we needed continuity more than anything,FOR LEAVING US IN THE LURCH LIKE HE DID I WOULDN'T LIKE TO SEE HIM BACK.

frico,

Beenhakker is a very perseptive fella. I believe he smelled the shit that goes on with our football from a mile away. I also believe that he knows, but wouldn't say in public, that Jack Warner is an ASS.

I was deeply hurt that he left, but he made the right decision. He is a smart guy.

What's also interesting is that Joe Public could play a CONCACAF Champion's League match in Trinidad and it could get broadcasted LIVE in North America.

Yet, T&T plays Guatemala in Trinidad in a WORLD CUP QUALIFIER and yuh cyah even get a proper internet feed.  We play against Cuba and there was no television coverage at all.  Up to now yuh still cyah find even highlights of the last 2 goals T&T scored.

Football / Re: First Citizens Cup Qualifier
« on: September 06, 2008, 09:40:05 AM »
Source: ttproleague.com

Credit to Defence Force goalie Selwyn George on Wednesday night erasing what was a terrible afternoon for goalkeepers in the double header of the 2008 First Citizens Cup qualifiers at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

George, popularly known for his antics between the uprights, in the second qualifier against North East Stars pulled off two magnificent saves from the spot and doing enough for John Stewart to hit the upright in the first kick as Defence Force pulled a 3-0 penalty win to book their place in the quarterfinals of the First Citizens Cup.

Defence Force will meet defending champions and four time winners W Connection in their quarterfinal clash on Friday 12 September.

But just as the first qualifier played between Tobago United and Ma Pau SC, which the Tobagonians won 2-1 to book their quarterfinal spot against current League leaders CLICO San Juan Jabloteh, goalkeeping blunders were to blame.

Defence Force went 1-0 in the 50th minute when Devon Jorsling held off his marker to score into an open net after North East Stars goalie Tristan Charles was left beaten way outside the penalty area.

But ten minutes later George turned a routine gather into horror when Stars second half introduction Sylvester Teesdale blasted from outside the area and what should have been wrapped easily was spilled by the Defence Force number one and bobbled through his legs to cross the goal-line levelling the scores at 1-1.

George later made an acrobatic push over bar to guide a Kevin Jeffery free kick just outside the area for a corner as North East Stars never gave up on the very physical Army.

But Army shouldn’t have found themselves in the 1-1 situation which lasted till the end of regulation time, if it hadn’t been for first half marginal misses by Christon Baptiste and Kevon Carter.

And from the penalty shootout, Army proved to have the top marksmen led by team captain Anton Pierre, Devon Jorsling and Keston Williams all registering goals for the 3-0 penalty win over the Sangre Grande based North East Stars.

In the earlier match, kicked off at 5pm, Tobago United surfaced 2-1 winners over Ma Pau SC.

Following to good saves by Tobago United goalkeeper Richard Reynolds in the opening minutes, the Guyanese went from hero to zero in the 19th minute smashing an attempted dunk-out into the head of Ma Pau’s Keno Proctor standing just outside the area—only to watch the ball make its way back into his net. Reynolds late challenge to reach the bobbling ball proved futile and as for Proctor who collapsed after being struck was surely delighted—after seeking medical attention—to play a part in his team 1-0 advantage and have the goal registered as his own.

Ma Pau, despite the loud cries by coach Ron La Forest on the sideline, failed on a number of attacks to make the best against the Tobago United defence and add to their advantage.

And horror struck Ma Pau in the 68th minute when Kelvin Hernandez right sided cross into the area was handled by defender Densyl James leaving no hesitation in referee Gordon Maloney to point to the spot. No other than Collie Hurcules stepped up and converted easily past Shannan Warner to level the scores at 1-1.

Hernandez later scored the winner in the 82nd minute for a 2-1 win after a hard fought run, muscling off defenders and sticking the extra inch to notch the ball past goalkeeper Shannan Warner. The former United Petrotrin player celebrated his winning item to the fullest.

I now feel that I have to concede this arguement is a lost cause on my part judging by how everyone seems to agree with you...Tallman,fair enough you win on this MB.I now get the feeling that the majority of people do not want Maturana and Corneal to carry on with the job of trying to take us to SA,if that is the case, what is your considered opinion. In my humble opinion Maturana  and to a lesser extent Corneal should remain in their present positions, but thats me.Maybe you are aware of more info than I am coz I live in England and may not always have all the facts.REGARDS.
My contribution to this thread has nothing to do with whether or not our current technical staff should be allowed to continue in their position. It has nothing to do with building them up or breaking them down. The goal was merely to look objectively at the the present and former regime, and keep things in perspective, without the emotions. Present the data, after which we can draw our own conclusions.

Me eh care who running de program. I jes want our football to reach de heights dat is warranted after 100 years. I want more football, more accountability, more responsibility, more transparency, more professionalism, more planning, more caring, less politics, less ego, less personal agendas, less ulterior motives. Play de game right.

If that is the case with Jab. putting out all them players, good for them and congrats. We should thank Duprey, Hospedales and (cough, cough, cough ,,,,,,,,) fenwick!!!!!

Why the cough Deeks?  Is it because it is too hard to admit that he is the best TD/coach in T&T? Or is it that his level of professionalism is too much for Trinbagonians to bear? DUprey and Hospedales were there when JAb was a dot on the radar. Fenwick has turned them into a planet around which the national teams revolve.  In all fairness this man should have a at least one of our national teams to prepare.
