I would love to see that film also.  A Haitian breds who plays on my O-40 team insists that the disallowed goals were Tom Phillips long throws that went DIRECTLY into the goal.  Trinis on the team had to ask him if he crazy.  I asked him if that is the Haitian view on the crime committed that night.  He said "I was in the stadium. It was what happened".  Of course even after all these years he did not know about the referee being banned for life by FIFA.  I guess every eye witness to a crime sees it differently.

By the way, he knows the names of the players from that team, and said that Steve David, Warren Archibald, and Gally Cummings in particular had hero status in Haiti back in those days.  He said those guys could walk in any restaurant or go anywhere and get anything for free.  Especially after the cut arse we put on Mexico.

Football / South Florida "International" Over-40 Fete Match Tour
« on: September 23, 2007, 09:02:04 PM »
Regulars (Over-40) FC from Trinidad will arrive tomorrow (Monday, September 24, 2007) for their first US tour.  Regulars is a fete match team with its genesis in South Trinidad, but currently has members from all across the islands and even internationally.

The team will be based in Ft. Lauderdale, and will play two matches.  Their first game will be versus Limers on Wednesday, September 26 at the Lauderhill Middle School (49th Avenue, south of Oakland Park Blvd) beginning at 7:30 pm.

Their second set of opponents will be Yorkshire United, a Miami-Dade based team comprising a mix of British, Caribbean (T&T, Jamaican, Haitian), Latin American, and US Americans :rotfl: (copyright Miss South Carolina), currently competing in the Kendall Over-40 league.  Location for Game 2 is Kendall Soccer Park (the artificial turf complex located on SW 127th Ave, just north of Kendall Drive (SW 88th St).

The team will be hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Consul General, Hon. Gerard Greene, at his residence in Coral Gables on Saturday, September 29.  Mr. Greene is also a former footballer, representing and captaining both Naparima College and the National Youth (Under-20) team back in the early 70s.  He was the captain of the Naparima College 1973 squad that took the National Intercol title that year.

This is an open invitation to the Socawarriors.net posse from South Florida to come out and have some fun and ole talk and maybe touch bases with people you may not have seen in a while.

Football / Re: Highlights of Pres Sando vs Saints (1986 Intercol Semis)
« on: September 23, 2007, 07:26:36 PM »
Great memories indeed! Tallman where you find that clip? Jeezanages!

Yes dred, we had a great team indeed it was a product of a core of players who played together for Panthers FC ( Ozzy, Branker, Sean "Bushy"Edwards, Wayne Dowridge, Dale Jones, Keeshan and Myself), along with true home grown talents like Van Cowan, Greggory Mitchell, Harvey Neptune, Nazim Karim, Clive Reyes , Donald Yick, Anthony Sheerwood, Duane Dyer, Neil "Casapie" Mason, etc, with Darryl"eats" Edwards being the lone Mayaro man, so much for all dat "imports talk".

Romano Paul was only man who had just joined Pres from Benedicts to do his A-Levels and Graham Bertrand (Point-a Pierre not north) had already been in Pres about two years prior since St Peters private school had closed down. The only player that was "imported" that season would have been Kent Parris in goal.

Compared to Pres teams of the pass this team did not look impressive on paper especially at the start of the season since most of the team from the prior year (a truly "talented bunch" had left) except for captain Daniel Quashie and Aldwyn Fergusen Jr.

However, the team was full of team spirit ( a la "Shit-talk" gallore), and a nice balance of hard-workers and gifted individuals; this conbined with the guidance of the late Coach Carl 'Ozzy" Osborne made us almost unbeatable that season.

Tallman thanks for the memories.

Frame,  thanks for setting the record straight.  You guys were just great that year.  Especially considering the expectations you had to live up to from the 2 or 3 years preceding when Pres had a 'virtual' South Under 20 with players like Larry Joseph, Anthony Clarke, Denzil Gustav, Don Harry, Lindley Prince, "Bull", Wayne Alexis, Steve Shand, Martinez, Taylor, Anthony "Sugars" Monroe, Roger Lawrence, Ian David, Brent Augustus, Baker, Knott, Daley...cannot remember most of them, and I know I am calling players from different years together here (Tallman?  help).

That '86 team quickly converted many initial doubters with their chemistry and determination (Pres Spirit).  Dad always spoke highly of the togetherness and passion of that unit.  Much kudos to the Panthers base...its been a while since I heard that team name.  What was amazing was that Panthers was formed and managed by the players (teenagers) with no adult input.  Pure love for the game.  Just had a chat with Colin and reminded him (and will remind you here too) that Zeus will have eternal bragging rights over Panthers after the game on UWI ground.

This is how you play 1 v 1, 2 small goal we play for 15 mins or whatever, when you score you start from your goal no center, man you guys never play street soccer, after a finish kick some butt you will know about Mod Sec, Hurricanes and Telco, Texaco and Giants all former teams, so talk the talk now you step up for a challenge. Palos you first! I start to see man knees buckling.

By the way did anyone recognize SH in the photo, he is the only kinda a fair skin dude.

Yuh should say in de middle row, because Carpette behind him in the back row light-skinned too.

Yeah Palos....another old-timer here.  1v1 was a great way to build individual skill and to strengthen the "one-on-one" apsect of the game , like screening, turning on a defender then shooting, etc.  Remember  yuh have no one to pass to... (and good material fuh ole talk too).  Sometimes even with enough to play a 2v2 or 3v3 we would play "1v1 champ on board" in the street.

If Coach grow up on dat kinda menu, ah would not be surprised if he could take yuh in a 1v1 if he maintain some degree of fitness ;D

« on: November 21, 2006, 08:10:38 AM »
Feliziano,  As underdogs any victory is a sweet one brudder.  Did not realize that the teams may meet again....so soon....and you are right, Naps actually has the easier national quarter-final game.  Should be interesting.

I do not agree with the logic of the draw though.  Teams from the same zone should be on opposite sides of the draw.  The fix would be Naps and Mucurapo switching places.  Thus the losing zonal finalists would all travel (further) away from 'home'; teams from the same zone could only meet again in the final (currently this only occurs for the east zone); and if that does in fact happen, then its true survival of the fittest...you have a better guage of relative zonal strength (not that it really matters anyway).

Actually I am not shocked by the result.  I was in TT for the Turton-Osborne Classic and during that game Pres gave Naps a run for their money.  Naps is a solid team...and have been for the past few years, but this crop of Pres men exude the Presentation spirit in a manner that I have not seen in some time.  They demonstrate belief, commitment and passion on the field of play, and to do this in spite of alleged internal wranglings makes this victory even more satisfying.  Playing with pride and passion regardless of the result is good enough in its own right, but to combine this with victory as the underdogs is a glorious thing.  As Presmen let us not forget the second verse of the Pres Hymn (men of dignity) and commend Naps for an honourable fight.  Our annual rivalry continues to bring out the best of what the SSFL is all about.  Lessons learned in defeat could be of greater value to young men advancing onto the stage of life, if put in the proper perspective.

Congrats to the Presentation Team, Coaches and to all Presmen!!!

To the Team:  Savour the victory for a little while, but focus on the next stage of competition as quickly as possible.  Go in to the game with the mindset of underdogs and do what you do best while on the field (Hint:  imagine is Naps yuh playin again)

Got in yesterday with the Mykon group.  Smooth flight (chatted with Tallman for a little bit on the flight), good hotel etc.  The area we are staying in...near Frankfurt is really pleasant.  Paid for a hotspot connection (a strange concept for me) so will be checking in here only occasionally.  This should be a great two weeks. Will update every now and again when the action starts.  Trying to get some work done for now.

« on: November 27, 2005, 05:09:20 PM »
Most posters hit the nail on the head with regard to increasing fan support, but separately.  It is all about marketing, and at the same time keeping things at the community level.  The question is what should be the size of that community for patronage to be viable for the clubs and, by extension, the League.   "Economies of scale" Hmmmmm  ...

Other things that make you go hmmmmmm:

1.  Would the next natural step in the evolution of Professional Club Football be the revisiting of a Caribbean Pro League?

2.  Would Corporate Caribbean be willing to step out in faith on such a venture at this stage in the evolution of our (Caribbean) game?

3.  If realized, should such a league encourage the participation of players from outside of the region?  Should there be limits on their numbers if so?

Decisions, decisions.....

Saw the game at the COE.  Both teams looked decent.  The edge on play goes to Connection.  The highlight of the game unfortunately was the horrible refreeing.  Both ways.  Its always unfortunate when a ref plays a major role in deciding an outcome.  Game ended 1-1 in regulation and into extra time.  The Army won on PKs.  Congrats.

OK well that is all I needed to hear...DVD coming soon.

The girls on the beach scene are flight attendants who are all friends of Colin Joseph (who appears talking about his pores raising) his fiancee is on it as well.....
The world small for true... I remember them fellas from my days working at Galeota Point.

Rotato,
Colin is yet another Presman representing T&T in foreign.  He was a few years ahead of me in Pres.  His Dad is also a Presman, back in the days when my Dad was a Naps man.  Lifelong friends though, both families.  It was great seeing Colin.  I called my Mom immediately to watch, and she in turn called Colin's Mom, whom I am sure was already watching.

Ato,
Great documentary.  Ah not only buying one for myself, but ah buying as gifts to ship to people when the DVD come out.

A suggestion:  Organize some funding as part of your DVD production costs to make a return trip to Bahrain to do a follow-up interview with Mr. Bahraini Lyrics Man.  Even people who see it 50 times online will buy the DVD just for that extra.

I have a couple more ideas, but others could jumbie it ....so I will PM you.

Check out the following extracted from a post I made exactly one week ago:

"So true.  The energy and vibe from the Guatemala and Mexico games (the two home games since I back in Trini) was not there.  The abhorrent ignorance about the game and team by the waggonists was way past disgusting.

Meh posse was lucky to negotiate tickets to the game up to only a couple of hours before the game.  It seems as though we were on cell phones from Friday at 10am, right thru de night while we liming until most of us hook up tickets by 4pm on Saturday.  I even had to give ah youth ah extra $100 to swap a grounds ticket for a covered stands ticket so we could be in de same location as for the Mexico and Guatemala game.  What was striking was the absence of faces and personalities in our immediate vicinity that was present for the previous two games.

Now, true Soca Warrior fans do not necessarily have to be ball players (current or former). Big ups to the Chinee man that does jump up at the oddest of moments whenever ah vaps ketch him (yes...even before the game start) and shout praise to the Warriors.  De passion de brudder does display is undeniable, yuh could see it in his eyes....he believes.  Well dis time around he sit dong right next to we and was elbow and kick and ting too bad when de game was going on....da man could shadow.  Buh is one love breds, we understand.  Ah glad he get ah ticket.

.........

Anyway, how do you solve this problem in the future.  A few suggestions:

1. Develop a database of former national players (at all age levels).  This is similar to something that Tallman told me he wants to do when we spoke in Piarco airport on Thursday.  Provide them at least the option of purchasing 2 tickets for international games.  It is the least we could do for those who made sacrifices to represent this great nation.  I am certain that at any given time there will not be more than a few hundred people on this list.

2. Schedules for WC Qual games are usually known well in advance. Sell season ticket packages for the various stages of the WC Qual tourn.  I know there are a lot of implications and potential complications here, but these can be resolved.  The bottom line is diehards will go to every possible game, regardless of team performance, and will have no problem buying tickets in advance.

3. PROVIDE SOCAWARRIORS ONLINE MEMBERS WITH THE FIRST OPTION FOR SAID SEASON TICKETS.

People ah gone.  Prep for Pres Over 40 vs Pres Over 30 at Union Hall later dis afternoon.  De old men go beat de not so old men.  Then is Naps Over 40 turn on Saturday at Ato Boldon.
"

These ideas could be explored and tested during the upcoming friendlies.

By the way, for those South men that may be interested, Pres Over 40 tied with Pres Over 30 (3-3) last Sunday at Union Hall.  The games yesterday (at Manny Ramjohn, not Ato Boldon) went like this:

Pres O-40 (5) vs Naps O-40 (4)....hattrick by Larry 'Scamp' Joseph
Pres O-30 (2) vs Naps O-30 (1)....double by Ferguson

I have pics....may not have time to post report this week though.  Someone tell me how I can upload and post pics....on a new thread.

Anybody ever notice a correlation between the level of waggonism in the HCS and the underperformance of the Warriors/Strike Squad?  Think about November 19 and yesterday.  Well ah had a hypothesis; did some research; built a model; analyzed, calibrated, and validated the model; and the formula is as follows:

 Â         PT = 1/ 0.6*WL

where: PT is the relative team performance on a pre-defined scale
Â          WL is the waggonism level, measured by the number of waggonist in the stadium.

Doh ask fuh no more info on meh proprietary model.  Ah could tell yuh but then ah go ha to kill yuh.

Well get this thru yuh clouded ganja head, no Trini in their right mind would fly Air Jamaica to Trinidad from the USA even if they did such a route! Well not while BeeWee is doing the same route anyways bad service or not!  ::)

The reason I brought up Air Jamaica is because I recently flew my family of four to JAmaica for under US$1,000 from JFK to NMIA.

But point taken though. Its hardto expect a Trini to travel to Trinidad via air Jamaica when BWEE there (crappy service or no crappy service) 8).

Just came back from Manny Ramjohn Stadium.  Congrats to Naps....Big Ups for Pres Spirit, we have a young team that will do great things next year.  This game was levels above the first game between PTown(1) and Fyzo(3).  Both teams (Naps and Pres) were stringing passes and building plays nicely.

Naps will win the National Intercol Title.  That team is head and shoulders above the others in the league...in ALL zones.  Technically sound, professional looking outfit.

Still a great season for Pres.  Main Mission Accomplished....back in Championship Division.  Also stunned Naps in Turton-Osborne classic.  Nuff team will get cut arse from Pres next year.

Final game in Pres v Naps series for 2005 on November 19 at Manny Ramjohn Stad...Over 40s game.  This year should be interesting.  Glad I in Trini for this one.
