Football / TTFA or TTFF. Which is legally the administration?
« on: October 13, 2007, 04:16:47 AM »
If elections for TTFF are every 4 years, how come its taken 5 years and 2 months since the last one? (sept 02)

Also, heres one for you bar room lawyers...... TTFA is the recognised appointed football administration organisation. It is still in existence. TTFF is a limited company. Who suddenly decided to allow TTFF to take over from TTFA? TTFA is a non profit organisation. TTFF has shareholders/directors. Does this mean that profits/dividends  are being paid? Why did FIFA choose to recognise TTFF when TTFA was still in existence?

If somebody could figure out how to be elected to TTFA, they could legally oppose TTFF for their right to represent football.

Now, I'm not being cynical here, but is it possible, if you have the right connections in FIFA and everybody in T&T scared of you, to form a company and say "from today, we are running football", take profits from the company and organise elections that you can control, and have no public accountability?

There will be a new Panaroma programme on the 22nd October, I think in UK. I believe its looking at the FIFA ethics committee and will include a piece about the blacklist with coments from Shaka or Kenwynne.

what are the odds of having not one but 2 strikers sent off in d same game

These two have been on fire, scoring 11 goals between them. Both sending offs were self inflicted. The ref was very picky, and Wise should have told the players at half time not to argue or show dissent.

The Leeds fans went crazy at the final whistle and the ref had to be escorted from the pitch by police. But it was the players lack of discipline that cost Leeds the victory.

Gillingham were absoloutely crap going forward. Even against 9 men they never looked like scoring. Thank God for Coxy.

Cox grabs last-gasp Gills point
Sat 29 Sep, 07:15 PM

Ian Cox headed home a stoppage time equaliser to earn Gillingham a 1-1 draw and deny nine-man Leeds victory at Priestfield.Cox rose to power home Barry Cogan's corner after Dennis Wise had seen both his strikers sent off.

They had looked odds on for a comfortable win when Seb Carole headed them into a 28th minute lead - his first for the club - before the referee took centre stage.

Shortly before half-time Danny McDermid ordered off Tresor Kandol for a second booking after the striker sarcastically applauded his decision, to leave Wise fuming.

And just before the hour mark he further infuriated Leeds by dismissing Jermaine Beckford for a foul on Sean Clohessy - moments after handing the striker a yellow for dissent.

Gillingham poured forward, throwing on Gary Mulligan as an extra striker, but their finishing left a lot to be desired, but veteran Cox sent the home fans into raptures when rose highest at Cogan's corner to deny Leeds their record.

Apparently the Trinidad & Tobago government once issued its own commemorative Jack Warner stamp, but they had to be recalled. Postal customers complained that the stamps just wouldn’t stick.

Jack Warner and the £15m World Cup gap
22:43pm 18th September 2007
  Comments

FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, who is the major opponent of England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup, has become embroiled in yet another Caribbean football scandal.

It has emerged that the Warner-controlled Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation had income in excess of 200million T&T dollars (£16m) from the 2006 World Cup despite having previously declared the figure to be less than 20m T&T dollars. And the total doesn't include money from five World Cup warm-up games.

The £15m discrepancy was revealed by the London lawyers acting for the T&T players' union. The Trinidad and Tobago team had been unhappy at the paltry sums offered to them by Warner — around £498 — as their half-share of the income generated from the tournament.

Scandal: Jack Warner

Warner has reacted by banning the 16 players who are represented by the London firm Bates, Wells & Braithwaite, including Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones and Southampton's Stern John, from playing for their country.

Despite official complaints, FIFA have not considered referring the case to their ethics committee as it is considered a domestic matter.

Lawyer Michael Townley, who is travelling to Trinidad this week to pursue the players' claims in court, said: "This is a sporting and financial scandal which the major football authorities are ignoring. Jack Warner, a FIFA vice-president and president of CONCACAF, is involved up to his neck yet nothing is done about it. He has shown by banning the players that he cares nothing about Caribbean football and their golden generation, only his own financial wellbeing. Now he will have to explain the huge gap."

TTFF collect W/Cup document$
By JOEL BAILEY (Newsday)

Tuesday, September 18 2007

DUE TO the lateness in submitting relevant documents by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF), the football body will make a delayed comment today on a newspaper report on Saturday which claimed the TTFF received over $173 million after the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

According to the TTFF media officer Shaun Fuentes, the Sports Ministry sent documents to the TTFF at 3.30 pm yesterday, hence the Federation decided to make a response today, instead of yesterday, as promised.

TTFF special advisor Jack Warner, general secretary Richard Groden and a pair of lawyers, Om Lalla and Kelvin Ramkissoon met at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya on Saturday, the same day as the newspaper article which accused the Federation of presenting an unaudited statement to the World Cup players.

Brent Williams, the Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, faxed figures of the sum received by the TTFF — $173,690,133.50 from the public and private sectors (a contrast to the $18,255,952 reportedly presented to the players by Groden last October) - to the players’ legal representatives Bates, Wells and Brathwaite London LLP Solicitors.

The $173 million sum was disclosed by Government after a request by the aforementioned legal firm on August 22, in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.

The London-based firm are representing the World Cup players in the bid to recover monies that they claim have been owed to them by the TTFF, insisting that Warner agreed to share with them 50 percent of all sponsorship funds derived from the team’s World Cup campaign.

The players blanked the TTFF’s $18 million offer and, having formed the Football Players Association of Trinidad and Tobago (FPATT), agreed to take legal action against the TTFF.

It is stated that, based on the $173 million figure, the players are each entitled to a minimum of $6,947,604.54 for their participation in Germany.

Warner has repeatedly slammed the players for their stance, and the majority of the squad — goalkeepers Kelvin Jack and Clayton Ince; defenders Marvin Andrews, David Atiba Charles, Cyd Gray, Brent Sancho, Ian Cox and Avery John; midfielders Evans Wise, Aurtis Whitley, Carlos Edwards and Chris Birchall; strikers Kenwyne Jones, Stern John, Collin Samuel, Jason Scotland, Cornell Glen and Anthony Wolfe — have either been blacklisted or (in the case of Ince, Edwards and Scotland) refused to play the national team until the matter is settled.

Captain Dwight Yorke, defender Dennis Lawrence, goalie Shaka Hislop and midfielder Russell Latapy have all retired from international duty while Densil Theobald led the national team during the Digicel Cup here in January-February and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States last June.

Erm, I'm no expert, but following on from the "1-1 draw with Sweden" fiasco, surely the proof readers would have attempted to get some accuracy into this article.

Let me see.....

DUE TO the lateness in submitting relevant documents by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF), the football body will make a delayed comment today

Surely if TTFF are due in court on friday, they would have prepared themselves enough to have this information. Or did they think it was hidden and wouldn't be discovered? Anyway, TTFF submitted the figures in the first place, so surely they must already know them.

insisting that Warner agreed to share with them 50 percent of all sponsorship funds derived from the team’s World Cup campaign.

Wait a minute. Didn't Warner admit to this in the press? So what is there to insist about? Its an admitted fact.

The players blanked the TTFF’s $18 million offer

Yeah, of course they did, it was $70 million short!

having formed the Football Players Association of Trinidad and Tobago (FPATT), agreed to take legal action against the TTFF.

Nope, wrong again. Yes, some of them formed FPATT and yes, they agreed to take legal action. But one didn't depend on the other. Forming FPATT was a forward thinking measure to prevent a reoccurance of such events as well as benefitting all professional players in T&T. Taking legal action was an effort to recover bonuses they were entitled to.

Football / Re: 2010 Warriors coaching staff : Lack of friendlies etc
« on: September 18, 2007, 03:25:51 PM »
Fellas, think about it. Allyuh really feel any top-quality international side want to play a 2nd/3rd string T&T side?? That is a complete waste of time for them. As long as the Jacklist in effect we gonna have a hard time getting any friendlies, cuz plain and simple, our present team just not cutting it on the international stage. End of story
You all talking like top quality teams accustom coming to T&T,when was the last time a top quality team come to T&T?1st/2nd/3rd string side it's the same thing,we have to start doing something, the players we have need the exposure.
Jack showing everybody who is the boss,he have always had his way,as long as he is not involved the game is at a standstill in the country.I'm just trying to make sense out of nonsense,i'm not saying who wrong or right here but the players have the Federation in Court over an issue, how is it possible for them to play for that same Federation at this point in time, tickets to fly them in for the games, they have to get paid,Hotel etc etc sometimes we have to see the Federation side also, this thing is more complicated than we think, you can set up games and these guys not sure to turn up,it might be better to restart when all this is over.

Coops, you have to remember who is holding who to ransom. If TTFF really want to move on, all they have to do is keep their side of the deal and pay the players.

When the players saw they were being cheated and offered pocket change they stood their ground. So TTFF tried to bully them by creating a blacklist. To my knowledge, this is the first time a country has blacklisted its players for NO LEGITIMATE REASON.

As in any industrial dispute, which this is, employees carry on working while the situation is being solved by the bosses and the employees union/lawyers/workers committee etc. There is no reason why this can't happen here. The players careers are being damaged. They want to play. TTFF are just being vindictive.

If you really want to see TTFFs side of things, it looks like this:

Scamps : "Shit, the players didn't fall for the pocketchange scam"
Jackula :  "Blacklist the buggers until they fall into line"
Rodent : "Damn, they got some hot lawyer and he's got the figures we gave the govt"
Simple Travel " Heres your 3 one way tickets to Angola, with extra baggage allowance for your suitcases full of money"

I don't think the court case is stopping the backlisted players being selected. The TTFF decided to blacklist them and if they cared about T&T football they would scrap the blacklist and stop acting out of spite.

Lets remember that TTFF have broken their bonus agreement agreement with the players, refuse to go to arbitration, allegedly produced false accounts, blacklisted them for asking for what they were offered and delayed payments to the Gold Cup squad.

If the $173m plus figure is correct, TTFF must have enough money in the pot to BUY the Brazilian team, so paying them a huge wedge to play a friendly shouldn't be an issue. Don't forget, at least $25m is supposed to be set aside for 2010 preparation. TTFF could send teams all over the world.

I think there are two problems. I don't think other nations are too bothered playing a second string T&T and secondly, whatever gave you the impression that TTFF Ltd had any interest in football?

When I read this article, I couldn't wait to read the posts on this site. Surely this proves in black and white in a government document what you have all been saying ..... that there is corruption in the T&T football administration.

I've read thousands of posts from people asking why no one is doing anything about this and how its been going on for 20 years.

This should herald the beginning of the end for Warner, Camps, Roden etc. This article is the biggest news concerning football in trinidad and everyone should be realising that these people can be made to answer for their wrongdoings.

Therefore, I can't understand the attitude of people like Sam and Fishs.

Yes, this will bring about change, and perhaps there will be a period of confusion. But you can't bring down a dictatorship without facing difficult choices. But you should be spending time thinking about who should replace these guys. Lincoln Phillips? Shaka Hislop? Dexter Skeene?

As for FPATT, as I seem to recall, they are constantly asking people on this site for help. They are all volunteers and I don't think any of them get paid.

The real questions that Sam and Fishs should be asking is : FPATT, how can I help?

the Scotland 17/11/07 Italy  game will probably save France, euro wouldn't be the same without them

Yes, but it will be a case of France having to win in Ukraine. A draw may not be enough. Scotland, have the hardest matches remaining, but their home record is good. If they can beat Ukraine, then they could probably settle for a draw with Italy, who should have qualified by then.

Ukraine have the oppertunity to qualify still, but I think their results will more likely decide which of the other 3 qualify.

Maybe Jack wants to bring in Daryan.......................

However, this seems to remind me of a FIFA tactic. Remember to law suit about Mastercard? The guy who took the blame was removed from his post before the court case. Then, miraculously, after FIFA was found guilty, he was given an even better job!

With the court case against the blacklisted players approaching, maybe Jack wants to remove Camps. Then if the players win, Warner can say it was all Camps fault and he's not around anymore.

Of course it won't work. Just removing Camps won't save Warner.

One thing is certain. If sanch had played in the Gold Cup he would have a club now, possibly Championship.

So playing in the World Cup wasn't a big enough stage to showcase his talent?

Of course it was, and thats why he got so much interest. However, managers look at CURRENT form, not past successes. You can see from the transfer interest this summer that scouts were watching the Trinidad Gold Cup team. If Brent had played (unless he performed badly) he would have got offers. If people are saying bad things about you, you need to play to prove them wrong.

This is precisely the reason why a player who is capped is worth more money. How many times do you hear players talk about the "World Stage"?

Football / Re: Sancho released by Gillingham; Cox retained

Nothing to do with agents. Brent was wanted by Swansea, but Gills wouldn't sell him, so they bought Tallest. A Dutch team (poss Feijnoord) wanted him, but Gills wouldn't let him go. Other European teams have shown an interest but Brent wanted to stay in UK to get his passport.

There are rumours that Jepson was bad mouthing him. Other clubs wanted him but only wanted to pay peanuts.

One thing is certain. If sanch had played in the Gold Cup he would have a club now, possibly Championship.

If you run an organisation that you know has a severely negetive  public profile, and you have the opportunity to do something positive, do you

a) ask your lawyer to have a look at the options when he gets a quiet moment

b) ask your lawyer to put together a carefully worded statement, but don't stop what you're doing

c) get your lawyer on the phone and tell him "Shaun Fuentes is emailing you a letter to the English FA supporting Kenwyne Jones work permit. I want  it checked, edited and on my desk in an hour. Fuentes, as soon as you email it to the English FA, get it out to all the papers for tomorrow editions"

I don't know how much notice Shaka got, but I do know that somewhere around that time he got released from Dallas, had meetings in Trinidad and moved house. And he has no lawyer, media officer, secretary or even a bleedin office.

I can't help but think that if there really was no malice or purposeful delay, then the TTFFs ability to write one letter in support of a player is marginally less effective than a room full of weasels with typewriters, 12 bottles of rum, 2 kilos of cocaine, 15 Venezuelan lap dancers and Ricky Martin.

Sorry, got a bit silly there. Obviously Ricky Martin should be in the TTFF.

Football / Re: TTFF never refused Jones.
« on: September 07, 2007, 06:03:23 AM »
"I was refused a letter by the president of the T&TFF," said Jones. "I had to turn to the president of Football Players association of Trinidad and Tobago (FPATT) for help. I think that FPATT letter was instrumental in my move."
Shaka Hislop, the FPATT president and Jones' World Cup teammate, confirmed that the young organisation felt compelled to support the talented player.
"FPATT stayed out of the situation with Lester Peltier because we felt, at the time, that it was a T&TFF and Jabloteh issue," said Hislop, "but we are keen observers. But, given that situation and considering their reluctance to come to the aid of Kenwyne, it seems to me that the T&TFF are unwilling to help anybody in Trinidad and Tobago football.
"We had to write in support of his application and were happy to do so because we feel he has been a great servant of Trinidad and Tobago football so far and will continue to do so in the future.
"We are willing to support any of our members in any way that we can."
Bizarrely, T&TFF president Oliver Camps contradicted both World Cup stars and denied that he was ever requested to support Jones' work permit application.
"I really don't know what you are talking about," Camps told the Sport Express. "I don't know anything about that."
Two days before the transfer window closed, though, the British Home Office granted Jones a new work permit and he was allowed to become a Sunderland player.

And yet, two days later, Mr Camps memory is restored. Amazing.

Now, normally, I would say that there had been a mix up between TTFF and Kenwyne and Jones must have misunderstood when he thought that TTFF had refused a letter. But when you have Camps saying "I really don't know what you are talking about," Camps told the Sport Express. "I don't know anything about that.", you have to wonder.

Surely, he would have said " I don't know what you're talking about, we sent a letter but they didn't need it." ??

Curiouser and curiouser.

oh dear, oh dear. Do I detect some damage limitation here?

Ok, so TTFF never refused to send the letter. However, the impending court case isn't about players being blacklisted, it is over unpaid bonuses. Two seperate (allbeit connected) issues.

The blacklisted players may well sue TTFF seperately over the blacklisting. I would be interested to see if TTFF took legal advice before blacklisting the players.

I doubt it. So why take legal advice now?? I would guess its because they were forced to admit to another football association that they were behaving vindictively and punishing players (probably) illegally.

That must have been a great phone call to receive from Camps so you could tell him thanks, but TTFF are so unimportant now, we don't need your help!!

A victory for Kenwyne, FPATT and Trinidad football!!

It would be nice to see FPATT in the news more, but it appears that they're leaving it to others to bring their actions to light.

Think Clayton should prepare himself for relegation. Saw Walsall play against Gillingham on saturday. Both teams were very poor. Gills won 2-1, but neither goal was Claytons fault. Gills striker, Mulligan scored two identical goals....Facey won the header and looped it over the last man, Mullers stretched out a leg and lobbe Clayton.

Walsalls goal was stunning, and they hit the woodwork twice.   Coxy is absolutely key to Gills season. He was the best defender on the pitch. Obviously his pace has gone, but this means he reads the game much better.

Both teams seem weak in certain areas. Certainly, Gillingham haven't seemed to replace the quality of those that left at end of season. Sancho could have played for either team without sweating. Gonna be a long season for us Gills fans, and Walsalls too!

Fyl, if you appreciate Trinis, then your second team should be GILLINGHAM!! We got Kelvin Jack and Ian Cox. Unfortunately, we lost Brent Sancho.

Don't worry that you didn't know who Jack Warner is. The problem is, hardly anybody outside this site is aware of the damage that man has caused.

Welcome to the world of Trini football. There is no other like it. If you like intrigue, politics, corruption, bullying and victimisation, you've found heaven!! I suggest you dip into threads that cover Warner, Camps (Federation president), FPATT (new players union) and blacklist (you may be aware that players like Stern are blacklisted from their national team and others like Carlos and Dwight refue to play out of solidarity). You may also be interested to learn that these blacklisted players are taking TTFF (federation) to court in two weeks.

Also, these guys on this site have their own language that takes a bit of getting used to, but stay with it and you'll soon pick it up!!

I don't see this as a judgement of a football clubs morals. Whatever your views over Hughes crime, criminals are going to work somewhere. If Hughes had been an Estate Agent or a salesman or financial adviser he would have been able to continue his career.

Whether his sentence was too short is an entirely seperate issue. He done his time. He's not a armed robber or a drug dealer who earned his income from crime. He is a stupid, spoilt, rich idiot. But I can't see why he shouldn't do what he does best, and in the process, try to do some good from the tragedy he caused.

Actors, musicians and politicians have resumed their careers, why shouldn't a footballer.

Gentlemen, I have a good and reliable source on this matter as well and I must say it is very hard and sometimes too emotional for it to even be discussed...but, there are only two people with the footage of the game including the goals etc.. Gally & Steve one of them it was passed on to by my good source as he said he never wants to see it again in his lifetime.  Gally showed it 25 yrs ago on National TV and vowed never to show it again.
Coops much respect to you as always, your views are from the players prespective and while good there are gaps on what was going on behind the scene which I can help fill..however Nigel(you know who u r) you may contact me to ask the questions and get the accurate answers especially on the Classic team.I will not post anything more just give the answers and you may elaborate.

Respect.

Matador, is there any way you can get the clips converted so they can be downloaded. Thoses of us that had no clue of this incident would want to see for themselves.

I didn't know of this until today as I wasn't visiting this site until after the World Cup and never saw this post. I have never heard of 5 goals being disallowed for one team in a first class match, particularly a World Cup qualifier. I remember Haiti in the 74 finals, as I had to paint my subbuteo players brown to play the world cup edition, as you could only get white players then!

I cannot believe all this has been going on for more than 30 years. Players blacklisted, threatening to strike, inferior accomodation and food, suspected corruption in the administration. Nothings changed. Remmember the Warriors were charged their own travel, food and accomodation for Germany while all the TTFF people got theirs free.

Any current player who knows of this and doesn't join FPATT is a bloody idiot! Even those players who played in the Gold Cup rather than support the blacklisted players were rewarded by being made to wait before they got  paid, and even then, they had to return their kit bags.

As far as I can see, any player who trusts TTFF gets sh*t on in the end. Why don't they just stand together and break the hold these people have on T&T football?

Jones is more of a long term investment for Sunderland even though they allready have Cole, Murphy, Stokes, John, Hysen and Chorpa. Murphy and Jones could always play in midfield or under the strikers and will also have a future if Sunderland should get relegated or even stay up along with Murphy, Hynes and Stokes, while John, Cole and Yorke might have to go. Jones could reap benefits for Sunderland because he is young and very athletic. Figure 2 years in the premiership he develop into a more prolific striker he will also be 24 and Sunderland could make a fortune on him.

Sunderland have more of a chance to stay up rather than Derby. But with all them strikers I am not sure if that might be a good move unless they off load players. And to be honest Stern John allready have a goal while the other strikers like Murphy, Hynes and Stokes have none. Experience is very important.

Stern John needs to up his work rate, a bit lazy. David Platt have faith in him once..... lets hope he gets a fair chance as I think he may pull through this season.

Sunderland should invest in defenders and a central midfielder, maybe Latapy could help I am sure he have some life in him to end the season atleast. It will also be nice to see Latapy in the EPL before he goes out.

Heard a rumour that Sunderland are going to swap Stern for Kenwyne. Good for one, not the other.

Anyways, he should have stayed in the EPL...but whatever, he gets to have his quarter mil and ride off into the sunset.

Similar situation as Kelvin Jack at Gillingham. They sign him, give him a medical, then he gets injured. Gillingham had no reserve keeper and had to rely on loaners all season. Kelvin was forced to come back too soon and his injury worsened. Then the management blame Kelvin because they are under pressure. The fans turn against the player because they haven't seen him perform well. The whole relationship sours and neither player, management or fans are happy. Gillingham have now signed two more keepers and it looks like Kello is out of favour through no fault of his own.

Thing with Goalies is that most of the best ones don't get to save many shots.

Experienced keepers boss their defence so well that strikers are reduced to speculative long shots. Corners and free kicks are defended under the control of the keeper, so the more experience, the better the defence. This leaves one on ones as the biggest danger and, again, an experienced keeper knows when to come and when to stay. Check Schmeical in his later years.

Its also hard for young keepers to break through. When they do, they will be allowed less mistakes as these mistakes will be attributed to their youth, and also it takes supreme self confidence to play in goal and once this wavers more mistakes occur. Also, the defenders lose confidence if the keeper isn't strong and begin to make their own decisions. This leads to confusion and makes the keeper lok even worse.

Hence, 30-35 are the peak years for keepers.

Brent is still on trial at Brentford. He played in a behind closed-doors friendly today against Fulham. Brentford won the game 1-0.

I was told by an ex manager that Brent played well today. He also told me that if it wasn't for the need for a work permit, many managers would sign him. It appears that managers in the lower leagues want instant players. You can't get a permit until you have an employer. That means that you have to pay the player even though he can't play until his permit comes through. As theres no guarantee whether this will take one week or four weeks, they would rather sign a player who can play the next day.
