Football / Re: FPATT- some comments on its aims
« on: May 12, 2007, 02:13:38 AM »
As far as I know, the players for the funday are starting to fly out next week.

Work has started on an FPATT website which sounds like its gonna be as good as this site.

Uniform is being manufactured and you should get a look at it on this site within next few days.

A warriors anthem has been selected and negotiations are underway to make it available for purchase via downloads.

Tv and press interviews have been organised from around 20th May to early June.

Meetings are being organised with all 12 clubs, and the PSL. The president of Concacaf has been invited to attend a forum with other interested parties (hopefully a govt representative and representative from FIFPro-the world association of players unions) as well as an English PFA rep,so-called FPATT special adviser Kevin Harrison  and players from FPATT.

Funding from FIFPro should be confirmed at their committee meeting in June.

Negotiations taking place with Business partners and sponsors.

Expect lots of activity and announcements in the press in the run up to the funday. I understand that 15,000 tickets have been made available and they are selling well.

Hope that helps!

Next four weeks are gonna be interesting. National team in Gold Cup camp. FPATT players in funday match. Lots of press interviews, including TV lined up for FPATT.

Gonna be a lot of hard questions asked at the Gold Cup camp press meetings.

Think theres gonna be fireworks!

Be great if journos go to Gold Cup press meetings wearing FPATT shirts!

Thanks Peong, really enjoyed that. Notice the high proportion of Englishmen in that list-NOT!

These days, English coaches spend hours on the training field knocking this kind of flair and audacity out of English players. Rass!

Don't think they saw the actual books. From what I recall, they saw a spreadsheet and didn't think the figures were accurate. Anyone can put figures on a spreadsheet, its not an official audited account.

If you send a spreadsheet to your tax office, if they think it is suspicious, they ask you for proof.

To end the dipute, TTFF need to provide complete audited accounts showing income and expenditure.

Touches, I can't speak for FPATT directly, only covey my understanding of their aims and my views connected with them.

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean that supporters should choose between  FPATT and the Warriors. The national team will (undoubtedly all be members of FPATT) But by supporting the Warriors, yet wearing the FPATT shirt, you will be sending a message to TTFF. That you are a proud supporter of Trinidad & Tobago (the flag will be on the sleeve) but are against the dictatorship of TTFF and its bullying of players to the detriment of the nations football success.

All players will always be Warriors first, FPATT second, as should the supporters. It appears the federation would rather be TTFF first, Trinis second.

This action should not cause any division between players, but may make some aware how the supporters feel about not supporting the blacklisted players. If the players become more united, it will make ALL of them stronger.

Personally, I would not condone or encourage any action that causes further unrest between players.

I think FPATT want to challenge TTFFs deathgrip over football, but I don't think they wish to take over. I don't think that would be good for football. However, I would love to see FPATT represented in TTFF, and hope that they try to force this.

Your last comment was accurate. I think FPATT want to ensure that all players are represented, and I hope they ensure that the U17s have got fair and proper contracts.

I look forward to FPATT releasing their official statements, as this may prevent confusion caused by people like me mis quoting them!

Don't think so, WC. Keep the momentum going. all the papers can do is apply pressure. FIFA member nations can ask questions at FIFA meetings. Bet most countries aren't aware of whats happening. As I have said before, there are national federations out there that would love ammunition to fire at JW.

I say lets get writing.
well in that case would it be better for the FPATT to promote this or does the association feel that it would be best that people on this Forum take it under their wings to do so?
how yuh intend to do dis WC, what way will be most formal i.e paper based or digital to send

Think thats for FPATT to decide. However, being as they will  have to be a political organisation, they probably won't be able to express their feelings in the same way you or I could.

Therefore, I think the forum members should email their feelings direct. Be easy to cut and paste the letter to each seperate federation. Bit tedious though!

Shirts are in production as we speak.  Will try to post the logo if I can get a copy.

FPATT been real busy planning this launch, but you guys need to remmember that none of the guys have done this kind of thing before, so mistakes may happen.

But then, they don't have the financial backing yet to employ professionals. Many people working their butts off free of charge.

Is there no access to these accounts through a freedom of information law?

Don't TTFF have to publish yearly accounts?

Who is TTFF accountable to? FIFA? CONCACAF?

Does anybody know the answers?

West Coast, its been a long time coming, but the balance of power in football has changed over the last few years. Massive TV deals have given players unions the revenue to begin to influence the organisations. But don't forget that the English PFA is a 100 years old, yet they have only had real power in the last 20 years.

FPATT will be a more modern union, but don't expect them to change football in T&T overnight. It will be a long struggle, but hopefully, the people will get behind its aims.

The difference is, that now, FIFA have stated that they WANT players unions and that they want dispute chambers in place worldwide by 2010, and they should include players representatives.

345
Coops, thats been my point all along about this blacklist.

England, Germany, Italy, Brazil etc would get their ass kicked by FIFA if that didn't send their best players for a major tournament. I'm sure all nations take part under a contract that includes a condition that they play their star players.

FIFA and CONCACAF probably have the same clause in their contracts with tv companies and sponsors.

I think TTFF would be accused of devaluing the tournaments. Maybe the sponsors/tv companies would sue FIFA/CONCACAF, then they would sue TTFF.

TTFF could try to argue that they are sending their best team, but it won't wash. Their only hope is to break a few more players. They could say they didnt select Sancho coz he's had a poor season. They could say Jack is injured. They could say Coxy is too old. But what about the others? Some of those guys had a great season.

Thats why I think TTFF could be on way out.

Yes, federations take a cut of transfers, but so do the players unions. Neither has influence over the deals, however. Bit like if you buy an FPATT shirt. The union gets a percentage of the sale price, but they don't have a say in the manufacturer.

Good questions, Jefferz.

How do you ensure that the TTFF members that you elect are neutral? You would need people with certain business qualities to make sure TTFF don't go bust. But you would also need people with an inside knowledge of football, both local and international. Maybe a well regarded politician who knows how to be diplomatic. A representative from FPATT to ensure players interests are considered (not just financial, but rule changes, development etc) Someone who can look at the youth development programme. Obviously thats looking good with the U17s, but money should be ploughed into really young kids from 8 upwards.

I would appoint an overseas scout to look at guys born abroad, but with T&T blood. I know FPATT have been seeking English based players with T&T parents/grandparents. (Then we won't have to drag players off the streets of England!)

Of course the players should be paid whats owed to them, but the amount needs to be determined by checking TTFF accounts.

There was a press announcement sent out today concerning the uniforms. FPATT have signed a deal with an English company, Vandanel to supply uniforms and leisure clothing.

I will try to obtain a graphic of the shirt. They will be for sale direct from Vandanels website  www.vandanel.co.uk  by end of next week, and also from FPATTs website, which is under construction. Not sure of price yet, but a share of the sale price will go to FPATT. FPATT will also be the Caribbean agent for Vandanel, and hope to encourage club and national teams to buy Vandanel kits.

Shirts will carry the FPATT logo and the Trinidad & Tobago flag on one sleeve.

I have heard talk that the shirts worn in the funday may be available for sponsorship. Idea is that people bid for a players shirt, which will be posted out after the match.

There is also talk of an FPATT anthem being released as a download.

Will update you all when I hear more whispers.

349
Coops, I know several English club chairmen and they ain't gonna take orders from no one! They believe that the club belongs to them and if Jack Warner, Sepp Blatter or George Bush tried to interfere in their club, they'd be told to sling their ass. They don't care about Trinidad, they don't care about CONCACAF and they don't care about FIFA. Their only interest is their club making money for them. So if JW called Paul Scally at Gillingham and asked him to mess with Sancho, Jack and Cox, I think it would be a short conversation.

Truth is, that sometimes players and managers just can't work together.

If Keane had turned out to be a crap manager, Sunderland would have struggled all season and the Trini trio would have had a poor season.

JW is not all powerful. He has influence in certain areas, but he also has enemies. Sounds like you think these guys should give up the fight and leave football in T&T back in the dark ages.

How can only one side negotiate? TTFF will not negotiate. They say TICKET or leave it. ;) Do you just want the players to bend over and take it from TTFF? Why should they? All that will lead to is a continuation of this dictatorship.

KentSoulMan,
I took the liberty to change your post ;D ;D ;D ;D

FIFA in my opinion has grown so powerful that the corruption that is now present is not even realised by the powers that be within FIFA.
or I would even go far as to suggest that the people within FIFA don't even consider what they are doing is morally wrong.

Westcoast, this is true, but things will change sooner or later. When people think they are invulnerable, that is precisely when they are most vulnerable. They start to get careless and make small mistakes, andits these that bring their downfall.Fromm TTFF, thru to CONCACAF thru to FIFA, there is one thread that links them. Its a house of cards ready to fall. Remember, all the might of the FBI couldn't stick one crime on Al Capone. He got locked up for tax evasion!

When you got your fingers in too many pies, someone gonna bite your damn finger off one day.

We have to get the worlds media involved somehow. Get people in high places asking questions and get more brave souls to stand up against these people.

Jefferz, your right. An attack on TTFF is an attack on FIFA. That means that its also an attack on all of the worlds associations. In which case, I'm pretty sure that officials in those countries that don't want Sepp Blatter as president could use this for their political aims. Don't forget, Blatter only gets in because of Warners voting block. Warner and Blatter have many enemies within FIFA. Blatter may have to cut his ties with Warner to survive. If that day comes, you will see big changes in TTFF and CONCACAF.

Warner may think he's got the Caribbean under control, buts its FIFA that will be his downfall.

Touches, not sure if this is just a coincidence or not, but I do know that Brent and Kelvin are feeling the pressure. remember this: foreign players have to play a high percentage of their nations international (75% I think) or they will not have work permit renewed. This is the kinda thing that keeps you awake at night, you know?.

Don't think JW doesn't know this-its part of the pressure to back down. Regardless of the court case, getting involved with FPATT could end their careers abroad.

So when you see these other guys back down, remember it may not just be about money, maybe they're scared they'll never play for the warriors again.

But this only makes the other guys more determined. this kind of power should not be available to TTFF. It's nothing more than schoolyard bullying.

Funny how the players who backed down are represented by a guy who got paid by TTFF to attend the world cup. Who does he really represent?  The phrase "conflict of interest" springs to mind. Don't think anywhere else in the world a man can represent both player and employer.

Fellas I mad like most of you- But the point was made that you cannot sue a Federation and be picked -against FIFA rules. So they need to negotiate and drop the law suite.
This maybe a blessing in disguise.

West Coast: thanks for the lyrics. That is a truly powerful song. The words completely echo the fight of the true T&T football supporter against those that wish to do all of us a disservice.

Wehitis: Who is really suffering? You, the supporters are being sold short by not having your best players represent your nation.

The blacklisted players are being sold short because their career is a short one and its being damaged out of spite.

Every team that has entered the Gold Cup, and its supporters who have paid their hard earned money, are being sold short because TTFF have devalued the tournament by not fielding their strongest team.

Let us not forget that the players have not caused this dispute. They simply did not believe what they were told by the TTFF regarding income and expenditure. All TTFF had to do was put up or shut up. If they had produced their accounts, the argument would have been settled. They refused. This left the players with only one option-legal action.

The players have not broken any laws or rules. They are not guilty of any crime. The best TTFF can accuse them of is being greedy. Even if that was the case, its no cause for non selection. You can only think the worse case scenario surrounding TTFFs accounts and that they have not diclosed the truth. TTFF have led everyone to make this assumption. They could end this tomorrow. Instead, the players are punished for having the audacity to question TTFF. FIFA must step in and put pressure on TTFF.

The more you refuse to hear my voice
The louder I will sing
You hide behind walls of Jericho
Your lies will come tumbling
Deny my place in time
You squander wealth that's mine
My light will shine so brightly
It will blind you
Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

Amen to that.

Think thats for the players to reveal if they wish. I believe it may have varied for some players, so they may not wish to disclose this. However, whatever they were paid, I bet it was a lot less than most squads at the world cup. I think the issue over bonuses is the area to concentrate on, because that money was coming directly from the monies generated by qualifying, so there can be no question that it was affordable to TTFF. Don't forget that TTFF should have budgeted for the players travel etc as an expense of qualifying, not an additional expense. Surely these men sat down and worked out the cost of sending a team and then budgeted accordingly before the tournament? If they were short of money, they and their advisers should have stayed home or paid themselves (Jack could have got them a ticket lol). Who were the important men in Germany, the players or the paper pushers? TTFF keep throwing in the Govt bonus to make the players look greedy, but that was a seperate issue, a bonus to players from a grateful public, not their living wage. I don't begrudge players who achieve world cup qualification from what, for most, should be their biggest ever paycheck. When you reach the top, you deserve top dollar.

Cool lyrics AB. You know, I thought that Marley song would be a great anthem for FPATT, but now you re write the lyrics its even more suitable. When you recording it? lol

But another song that suits the cause is that one by Ladywell Black Mombasa (or something like that)

The Higher you build your barriers, the taller I become.......

Theres something insid so strong
I know that I can make it
Coz you're doing me wrong, so wrong.

Ok I don't know all the words, but you get my meaning.

This is getting really deep into FIFA politics, but we mustall remember, contrary to the great Bill Shankly (people think football is a matter of life and death. They're wrong. It's more important than that.), football is only a game. In the end it cannot ignore employment law or human rights issues.

I don't know if the government can order an investigation, but I'm damn sure that any other business would be investigated if it was in the public interest, particularly if there was evidence of financial wrongdoings or fraud. Obviously, I'm not suggesting that is the case with the world cup dispute.

However, it would be interesting, for instance, to see how travel and hotel expenses  were paid to the TTFF employees and advisors. As I understand it, the players were told these expenses were deducted from the players pool before it was divided up. So was that the case for the TTFF advisers? I doubt it, as it wouldn't be acceptable to do a job of work abroad and pay the cost of getting there yourself.

I wonder if any of the other 31 nations at the finals paid for their own expenses, including food and training facilities.

Can you imagine the conversation.

"Stevie G, its Sven. I'm selecting you to play for England in the World Cup. You will be paid a total of £50,000. However, we have to make some deductions. First class air fare £20,000. 5 star hotel, £16,000. Food £2,000 Bar bill £80,000. Oh dear. It appears, Stevie G, that you owe us £68,000. Still, thats a lot less than Rio, JT and Frank"

Now you know why Michael Owen went home early-he couldn't afford to stay!!

357
Every rule is worth challenging!

The FIFPro guy mentioned, Tony Higgins has been instrumental in the setting up of FPATT and will be traveling to Trinidad for the launch.

The dispute resoloution chamber is FIFAs chosen means of settling disputes without need of legal action. Sepp Blatter has stated that he wants a mechanism like this in place in every footballing nation by 2010, preferably alongside a players union. UEFA are comitted to have this in place by 2008/9 season.

Wonder when CONCACAF and TTFF will get around to it? If it were in place already, there would be no blacklist.

wherever Brent goes, hopefully he'll have a manager who will let him play football, not just demand he kicks the ball into row Z.

Kelvin still got a year left and gills can't afford to buy him out. As for being injured, thats football, look at Michael Owens season!

s**t happens. You just gotta support your player until he's fit enough to come back.

Danny Jackman won all of last seasons player of the year trophies, yet Jepson wouldn't play him. Danny Spiller is easily Championship standard, yet Jepson wouldn't play him. Brent is far better than League 1, yet Jepson wouldn't play him. Can you see a pattern emerging here?

If these three had played regularly, Gills may have made the play offs.

Can't believe they let Leon and Chors go as well. When Kelvin is fit, they'll need him to play centreback!

As for Coxy-he's a warhorse and gives 100%, but he's first to admit that his pace has gone. Even so, that man give sweat, blood and passion whenever he plays. Scored a great goal two weeks ago as well.

In November 2006 FIFA stated in a Memorandum of Understanding with FIFPro (World association of players unions) that they are commited to

"the prevalance of employment legislation over all matters relating to the contractual relationships between clubs and professional footballers taking into account the specifity of sport and the methods of resolving differences within a football framework on the basis of representation"

Which is a bit different than TTFFs attitude eh?

TMF, I fully respect your comments and sentiments, for I am a newcomer to your site. I am posting information to make you guys (and girls!) aware of certain facts you should know, however, I find myself commenting on a personal level sometimes!

Without wanting to appear paranoid, I have to be careful that anything I say is not used by others as official FPATT statements. We are in a legal minefield where certain parties would not hestitate in beginning legal action against FPATT, if that achieved the closing down of the union before it got started. You know these guys far better than I, and you know they don't want opposition of any kind.

Thats why I need to keep my anonymity. I know players read this site, but if I was a certain person, I'd have my people read it too!

Regards,

Paranoid, UK!!
