I know many would say I'm not ''qualified'' to talk about such issues but I'm sure this is just a matter of choice (down to the Individual who wants to play ball). Footballing ability isn't down to your ethnicity.

Double joy as Montell Douglas takes Kathy Cook's British 100 metres record

By Tom Knight
Last Updated: 1:38am BST 18/07/2008

One of Kathy Cook's British records finally fell yesterday to a sprinter who was not even born when it was set.

Montell Douglas, the 22-year-old from Uxbridge, took advantage of a 2m/sec following wind to clock 11.05sec to win the 100 metres in Loughborough, wiping 0.05sec off the record set 27 years ago by Cook at the World Cup in Rome.

Douglas kissed the track after finishing and the gesture was appropriate. Not only had she broken Britain's longest standing individual women's track record, she had also guaranteed her inclusion in the Olympic team, which will be finalised on Saturday.

advertisementDouglas, who finished second to Jeanette Kwakye at the trials, said: "My mum said to me this week 'fly like a bird' and my physio said to me 'run like the wind'. Those two sayings have been going round my head all day and I managed to do them."

The race was Douglas' last chance to find an Olympic qualifying time. "It was now or never," she said.

Now 48 and a PE teacher in Walsall, Cook still holds the British records for 200m, 300m and 400m and remembers the race in Rome, where she finished second to the American, Evelyn Ashford.

Cook said: "I was put into the 100 metres in Rome at the last minute and I was lucky because it was fast and I got a decent start. I never got close to that time again. It's great that the record has gone."

Hyland in tough to mek de reserve team far less de 1st squad.

He have competition like Papa Bouba Diop, Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis, Lassanna Diarra & Songo'o to deal with.

Besides....ah tink de combo up front go more be Benjani and Crouch.

Oh Dear  :rotfl: Benjani plays for Manchester City  ;D

How I would to...  :-X ;D Forgot that type of language is forbidden on forums

Sanya Richards is my one favourite track athletes even though she flopped on two big occassions.
I've been following the US trials via the USATF site and hopefully You Tube. I was looking at Richards' competition and I remember that Natasha Hastings is of Caribbean Heritage: Jamaican Father and Trinidadian Mother (Born in England though  ;D)

Does anybody know to who was the first notable athlete who was from the Caribbean or was of Caribbean Heritage to compete for the USA.

If not just mention anyone who you can remember.

Just off the top of my Head some Caribbean-American athletes other than the ones already mentioned, I'm not gonna try and remember all that I know of:

Inger Miller (Jamaican Parents)
Kerron Clement - (Trinidadian Born & Raised to about 14 or so)
Lauryn Williams (Trinidadian Father)

Does Paul have WI parents? If so, where?

Ince's parents are from Trinidad, according to wikipedia...

His father is from trinidad.

Not all such stories have a happy ending. The father of the footballer Paul Ince, who lost touch with his son when Ince was a child, was not welcomed back. "His friends have poisoned his mind against me and now he tells people he doesn't have a father," he complained

Focus: When you discover the parent you never knew/Publication title: The Independent. London (UK): Jul 19, 1998.  pg. 21
[/color]

Does he have any contact with his father today? “The first time I saw him was when he decided to jump out at the press conference when I joined Man United from West Ham,” he says. “He had arranged it with the press, which I wasn’t best pleased with, so it wasn’t the nicest thing in the world. It was the first time I had seen him since, well, the age of 2. I don’t have any contact with him now.

I was in a gang from 13 to 17. We would go to a nightclub for a fight . . .

His mother is Bajan and is related to Nigel Benn via that side, he was raised by his aunt (bajan)

BARBADOS ENTER their World Cup 2010 qualifier against the United States at The Home Depot Centre in California today as the clear underdogs.

But despite the odds ostensibly stacked against them, there is still a degree of optimism since this football squad is bolstered with nine professionals.

Barbados enter the important encounter confident in their ability of putting in a strong performance despite the daunting fact that their rivals held the No. 1
rated team in the world, Argentina, to a 0-0 draw at Giants Stadium on June 8.

The United States and Barbados have faced each other only twice before, with the former winning both matches in the semi-final round of World Cup qualifying in 2000. In the first game, a brace from Joe-Max Moore was the precursor to a resounding 7–0 victory in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The Americans were also victorious when they travelled to Barbados, beating the home side 4–0 in the return leg. That game was much closer than the lopsided scoreline would suggest. Eddie Lewis and Landon Donovan are the only players on the current roster who were involved in those matches.

Barbados have welcomed back quality strikers in Doncaster Rovers' Mark McCammon and Crystal Palace's Paul Ifill. Former Tottenham Hotspurs' and England Under-20 left-back Marcel McKie is a newcomer to the squad and is expected to add much needed solidity in defence.

Despite the presence of several overseas-based players in the Bajan line-up, United States' head coach Bob Bradley has his eyes firmly fixed on the home-based captain of the team, Norman Forde. He has indicated his intentions of shutting down Forde in the midfield.

"I think that we concentrate on what we need to do, yet at the same time we always prepare our team with some sense as to how the other team plays and key players. Norman Forde, certainly a lot of their attacking play goes through him and we still would want to do the best we can to close him down and not give him the opportunity to make the game for Barbados," he said.

Bradley described the Barbados team as one having players with individual flair and overall athleticism.

For all of the United States' anticipated superiority, eight players in their line-up have not appeared in a World Cup qualifier before. Of the 13 with World Cup qualifying experience, Barbados will have to pay particular attention to the inspirational striker Landon Donovan of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Donovan is the United States' leading cap-winner in World Cup qualifying with 20 appearances from both the 2002 and 2006 campaigns, and has scored seven goals. Overall he has 100 caps and 35 goals. Fulham's Eddie Johnson with seven goals in as many qualifiers, is also expected to be at the forefront of the United States' offensive moves.

Barbados have not had the most encouraging results in their recent warm-ups, losing to Trinidad and Tobago, and embarrassingly, two back-to-back games
to football minions, Bermuda, last week.

The match kicks off at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

Squads

Barbados: Norman Forde, Daryl Ferguson, Marcel McKie, Paul Ifill, Mark McCammon, Johnathan Forte, Rommell Burgess, Johnathan Nurse, Alvin Rouse, Miles Jones, Rommel Brathwaite, John Parris, Brian Neblett, Gregg Belle, Riverre Williams, Barry Skeete, Adrian Chase, Malcolm Marshall, Dyson James, coach Eyre Sealy.

United States: Freddy Adu, DaMarcus Beasley, Carlos Bocanegra, Michael Bradley, Dan Califf, Dominic Cervi, Steve Cherundolo, Brian Ching, Jay DeMerit, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Maurice Edu, Brad Guzan, Frankie Hejduk, Tim Howard, Eddie Johnson, Sacha Kljestan, Eddie Lewis, Pablo Mastroeni, Oguchi Onyewu, Heath Pearce, coach Bob Bradley.

Despite my little joke post in the JA V GRN thread I don't know why people go on like Grenada are so crap with lines like ''Grenada Shocker''. I know Grenada got beat 6-2 (1st:3-0 in USA and 2nd: 3-2) but they put on a good performance. People say we only have 2 good players but Modeste, Charles (Yes the one that got sent off) and Bubb are decent players as well. Note these players are all abroad so they don't play in all international games. Bubb's younger brother is good as well, he should be playing pro but I don't know the details of that, maybe he'll play for Grenada soon.

''And you probably are an armchair supporter jocks their prick over stats''
Pioneer Trini. I'm also glad you mentioned this point if he was Trinidadian or Tobagoanian and you debate what I am about to say you are one of the biggest liars ever to sign on to the forum.

Like Filho said if this guy was a Trinibago he would be a GENERAL playing for Arsenal scoring 20+ goals this thread would be TRIPLE the amount of pages fulled with positvity.

LOL this is funny, i cant honestly believe people try to defend Adebayor. From day one you could see he wasn't that good. I remember in one of his first games all he had to do was square it to henry to score instead he shot and missed, henry got vex and i knew then what kinda player he was. something he done with bentner recently, oh yeah bentner is shit too. anyway i think saying he has no right near the premiership is going a little too far i think he could make ah Derby County or Chelsea I'm sure ;D. Fact is hes shit anyone who knows anything about football will tell u that, if u really think hes good u probably never played the game. And you probably are an armchair supporter jocks their prick over stats. Yes hes scored like 20 goals but how many chances has he missed? what contribution does he make to a game? how many times does he loose the ball with that terrible touch, is he good off the ball? is he an intelligent player? and the goals he has scored where they class goals or tap ins? or even goals that didn't really matter. i know a goal is a goal but in terms of the future if this is what he is then why keep him? or at least buy a main striker and maybe have Adebayor as one of the supporting strikers. Its a very sad day when one of the top 4 teams have him as their lead man. I really hope its a case of us not having anyone else. I cant honestly believe Wenger is going to have faith in him next season. Wenger is a smart man and is wisdom of football is endless, but my biggest fear is that he may be obsessed with his creation.

Thanks, Okay. Could you sign my photo now? I've always wanted your autograph

Yeah, thats right I can see you. Your the guy holding the camera

What carib you and all sayin hes good?

ill sign that for you when you see the light
Sign you and your camera? No thanks rudeboy.
Nope but I think you going like you've played in the premier league was a bit of overstatement about yourself.

I'm certain he's better than you so it would be advisable to put this ''never played the game talk'' to one side.

Adebayor is a good player, I never said he was world class but your going on as if to say coaches said ''okay, lads have a great game and don't bother with that big black lad upfront emmanuel, he can't do shit!''.
