Football / Look at how our opponents are doing
« on: December 17, 2006, 04:44:29 PM »
It is good to remember the old adage ...when your neighbour´s house is on fire  throw a bucket of water on yours ..but often we can focus on oinly those neighbours who are in trouble to the detriment of our own interests. So we say jamaica are not much better if so and Guatemala and panama we feel we can handle but what of Mexico ?
After winning the last world under 17 tournament, Club America of mexico reached the semis in the continental cup last week losing to Barcelona and Pachuca just beat Colo Colo of Chile for the South American Cup ! This follows on an excellent performance in the WC where they lost by one of the goals of the WC , to argentina after running them ragged.
my question for comment is ...can we instead focus on teams like mexico to find out why they are succeeding at all levels and we are not, rather than jamaica, Panama etc. ?
Venezuela has an under 17 in mexico for a month´s training ....Hmmmm

Pele praises Villarreal signing Fernandez
tribalfooball.com - December 12, 2006

Pele has heaped praise on new Villarreal signing Matias Fernandez.
The Chile international winger, 20, is currently with Colo Colo, but will move to the Yellow Submarines next month.

"He's a young player with a great future," said Brazilian legend Pele. "I have taken a close look at him twice and he has made the best impression on me."

we coming strong next year senores .... the yellow subs are back approaching the form that got them to the last 4 in europe last year. injuries have killed us this in the first part of the season but we are hanging in there in position 8 just off the pace.
I wont rate this youngster until I see him play in La liga although some have rated him the best young player in South america but if pele says he good ...then is trouble in arima next year !
P.S. he is not Argentinian ....

Football / Is it too early to take drastic actions in football in T&T ?
« on: December 10, 2006, 12:34:13 PM »
Since we always seem never to have enough time to prepare for any tournament, with the last foray of the under 20´s being a case in point, I was wondering if it is because we take too long to do the obvious. The fact that Beenie pulled us out of a dire situation in the WC qualifiers does not disguise the fact that the TTFF persisited with Bertil for far too long. Are we in the same boat now ? Do we have lost of time before the next tournament ? Are we happy to let things roll on as they are and ...see what happens ?

Football / Compilation of Jack's works
« on: December 07, 2006, 10:48:21 AM »
Can anyone give first hand testimony of some of the things they remember about Jack ? These can be either good or bad but factual. I just never cease to be amazed by what this man is so brazenly capable of.

...would we have been this patient ? ..and listening to a series of excuses ?
If this was a primary school and you child was in the class would you as a parent accept that the school didn´t have the best facilities or students ? ..... ever visited el dorado hindu school or  Rosary boys ? they get excellent results in spite of lack of so may basic things ...why ?? ...they have good dedicated teachers who stop at nothing to see their children succeed....and they know what they are about ! maybe I am expecting too much from someone( this foreign coach ...and I am not against foreign coaches ,,.,just this one ) who is not really connected to the trinidad experience.

Football / villareal moves on !
« on: November 08, 2006, 05:43:10 PM »
i feel its time now to start biggin up muh team. we have gone now from third from bottom to 8th place in la Liga. We just cruised today in the kings cup aganst Castellon, no big team, but plenty big teams falling to minnows not only in Spain...eh small mag ?
we even rotating players and ting ...
we still to see Pires and Gonzalo but say what ... just put dat in to let touches know we are grateful for pires and cygan, who scored his first on saturday. you see we make players feel welcome in villareal so dont be surprised if some more rejects come our way.
..... halo halo ...I will say it only once ....beware of the yellow submarines this year !

Football / This and that in La Liga
« on: November 05, 2006, 08:14:38 PM »
Who would have thought that after 9 games in the league you could look at the top scorers and not see Ronaldo among them ? Not only is he not among the top but he is yet to trouble the scorers !
Who would have thought as well that teams like Sevilla and Zaragoza would separate the top two, Real madrid and Barcelona at the top of the standings.
Some say in Barca´s case there is nothing to worry about but I am not so sure. Rijkard gets his chance to show he was really the brain behind Barca after Ten Cate left. While Rijkard struggles to get it right, Ten cate´s team, Ajax,  is leading the Dutch league by two points. This time the man famous for being the one Rijkard would turn to in the dugout is on his own high while his former boss is up against it, the recent loss to Real madrid coming too soon for any Barca coach.
The yellow submarines, Villareal,  have started their upward surge moving from 3rd from the bottom to 8th place. The team marshalled by Juan Roman Riquelme have all to play for in the league this year since there is no European competition to distract them.
So Diego Milito, the man Argentina left behind, after the coach described him as the best in Europe, is now the leading top scorer with Kanoute another surprise with Van Nistelroy close behind. Diego Forlan is again finding his scoring boots and his partnership with Riquelme is seeming to click again.
Will Beckham stay ? Will he go back to England or Scotland ? The 2-3 years English visa may not be renewed ....
Capello has finally found the way to release Robinho´s true potential and he is a joy to watch now.
Cant understand while Atletico madrid is so far off the top with such talent but the best team usually is the one where the players have some time together ......
La Liga provided 2 teams in the last 4 in Europe last year yet this year the champions are on the brink of elimination.. what a difference a season makes

Football / Calling barcelona fans ..
« on: October 24, 2006, 08:04:25 PM »
http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=15833

I wonder how many feel this is a good move ? Lampard ?? the guy who played in the WC ? The guy who was described as a big failure for England ?
Well barcelona might not need any other team to dig their grave they are doing  a pretty good job on their own.
Sounds like another PR, Beckham, pounds sterling, fans support kind of deal which led to mardrid´s downfall if I may say so ... not a football decision in my view.

Football / Any plans for the secondary schools league ?
« on: October 23, 2006, 10:56:25 AM »
Not being at home I was wondering whether the seconday schools league had any plans for representative teams to play against any foreign opposition as was done in the past ? In the old days not only was there Intecol but Noth South rivalries where the young talents could be displayed.
There was also repesentative teams etc. you had to shine on your college or secondary school team then the next level was a zonal challenge ...then a national team.

The colleges league  was able to compare its standard by comng up against teams from Jca, Babados etc.

Has this been discontinued ? If so what is the plan ?

Football / Football can change the world - Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Wenger: We can change world
tribalfooball.com - October 09, 2006

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has underlined the importance of football in breaking down barriers.

Wenger believes football, along with other sports, has a key role to play in bringing together people from other countries and cultures.

"Football can bring fraternity and tolerance," Wenger told But! "That is the advantage of sports. They can show the bad side of society, but they are also able to break down barriers and to open mentalities.

"My club counts on 14 different nationalities, but that is not a problem for them to know how to live together.

"I have the chance to experience it every Saturday on the pitch. Sport allows you to share values.

"Thanks to this job, I have discovered we could create a common culture within a club that every player could share.

"There is no need to speak the same language to express yourself together.

"To my mind, sports have an enormous responsibility in society. They propose values and aims to youngsters."

Football / Sweden 2 Spain 0
« on: October 07, 2006, 07:10:41 PM »
Sweden who could not trouble the scorers against T&T in the WC beat Spain today. It seems that Spain´s  racist coach still cant get it right and might be wise to think of his next job. So much talent but poor results.
A good way to say no to racism is to see those who believe in it fail ...
Bye !

Football / Venezela manages Uruguay at the death
« on: September 29, 2006, 10:29:06 AM »
Venezela warned the other south ameican nations that the hosts for next years Copa America are to be taken seriously. A 1-0 defeat of uruguay in Maracaibo makes for 4 wins and a draw against Uruguay snce 2001. A goal by Daniel " cafu " arismendi in the 8oth mnute sealed the tie for Venezuela.
I know we have had warm up games against Venezuela in the past when they were seen as the whipping boys of South America but maybe they may be better opponents for us these days.
they are closer than any opponent we will face in terms of distance and they are a much better team today than yesterday.

Football / Is the game of football more attractive today ?
« on: September 23, 2006, 05:11:32 PM »
I feel I need to ask this question given the spectacle or lack of it that was the World Cup 2006.
I dont know how many felt that watching a game end in penalty kicks is a fitting end to a keenly contested affair ...but whatever happened to the game being decided over 90 mins ?
Penalty kicks only recently became significant in WC history but now seeks to dominate the world´s most prestigeous tournament. Is it because the tactics used by the teams are too defensive ?
Has sience and technology caught up with the beautiful game so we are now being fed a diet that is more athletic than artistic ?( All teams seem to now have the same tactics and systems ...)
Will teams wanting success now try to play it safe rather than go for it ?
In the past the minnows in the WC provided the excitement with bold attacking play regardless of the result. The thought was ....we are here lets enjoy it .... This is no longer happening and T&T was a part of that .
Gone are the days of the flying winger..... The witch, francisco marinho, josimar overlapping and scoring.... paulo Cesar teasing defenders ... the total football of Holland switching from defence to attack with players interchanging...  Brazilian fans are now critising the game as played by their team ....joga bonito or nothing .....
Italy was and still is among the most boring of teams yet if they are winning who is to say others wont follow ...in the end ice hockey, with everyone just skating around at incredible speed, may be an option .

I hope the Copa America in venezuela next year sees some new tactics and more adventure, as football as a spectator sport will lose its popularity real quick.

Football / How many would love to see Latapy one more time for T&T ?
« on: September 08, 2006, 08:58:43 AM »
Boy every time I read about Latapy this season I keep wondering if de man not just getting better. I wonder how many people would love to see him again in a T&T shirt ...not for de long haul but just to motivate the youth in T&T to believe that they could achieve world class excellence ?
I just cant get over that 24 mins ...... I fel lke I still missing something ...that man kyah go out just so ......
mabe Sabga, and Dupres and jack and dem fellas could arrange ah fitting testimony to the greatest player to wear a T&T shirt...then  we could invite some ah dem  dem fellas he played with in Portugal, Scotland, T&T, jamaica etc. to be guest players ...
in England dey does give you ah benefit game after 10 years  ...Latas serve T&T for more than twice dat ....
Maximus and dem could compose something for de occasion etc...
Come on T&T ..just so we go let Latas go ??? We shoulnt treat ah hero so ..no no no...we shouldn't treat we Latas so !

Football / How do you rate Stuart Charles as a coach?

Football / Best latapy moments
« on: August 08, 2006, 04:29:24 PM »
Since I see from other posts that i am not alone in thinking that Latapy should have seen more action at the WC I thought it might soothe things a bit if folks could contibute to a  memories of Latapy thread. this should be about his exploits on the field ...not off it ...anyone game ?

I will start it off with my first viewing of the little fella with the big afro trying out or more likely starring ...on St augustine ground in the trials for the under national 14 team. He was 12 but I was encouraged to see him play because another trialist on the team had mentined that Latapy was the boss on the field. The coach then was ...BSC !

Football / Where the young Soca warriors ?
« on: August 08, 2006, 11:27:53 AM »
I couldn't help but wonder if our TTFF really serious about taking us up to the next level when i saw advertised the international youth tournament to be held from this weekend in Villareal, Spain.

teams taking part include Villareal, Espanol, Barcelona, Boca Juniors, Liverpool,Celtic,Milan, and get this The Ivory Coast repesentative team.

Where we ?

Surely the soca warriors must capitalise on our new found fame to get into youth tournaments like these which will benefit our youth.  Is it that we are not ready or is it that we are not worldly enough to know about these things ?

This tournament is now in its seventh year !!
we want to be among the best at the senior level ...well ???

Football / Who selected Wim ?
« on: July 31, 2006, 06:55:00 PM »
Can anyone say who selected  Wim for the job as national coach and whether anyone else had been considered for the position ?

I am just asking because taxpayers money is being spent now and I expect some accountability from the decision makers.

When warner spent his money he could pick who he wanted,  however if as he says he is not financing the ting again is he still making those decisions ?

Can anyone who knows for sure shed some light on the matter ?  I would prefer facts rather than speculation .
Thanks

Football / where have all the flowers gone ?
« on: July 27, 2006, 06:22:31 PM »
It beehoves me to see so much discussion on players who have passed their sell by date what about the young ones coming up. It seems like a long time ago when young college age players were the talk of the town and were knocking down the selectors doors for picks on the senior team.
No more hardest, juggie, Clint, Dwight, Russel, marvin, stern ..you know what 20 years later we still talking bout these shining lights.
are we concentrating on the wrong end of the animal ?

Football / Argentina vs Angola ...friendly ?
« on: May 29, 2006, 02:15:49 PM »
Just thought I would start a thead for tomorrows game. Argentina meets the ist time qualifiers Angola tomrrow at about 2.30pm  t&T time. The question will be of course who to leave out of the starting line up for Argentina and how would Angola fare against such tough opposition.
Angola got past Nigeria on head to head contests although they fnished with the same no of points. i dont know much more about them and maybe someone else does.
the fans of agentina will of course want to see if Messi plays against Angola tomorrow and if Sorin and Riquelme are recovered enough to play a full game.
The Agentinian coach has never played the same team  since he took over so one awaits the starting line up.

Just though i would solicit some views on this subject given the millions pouring into the world cup ccmpaign. In the past there always was a huge debt waiting after substancial sums were given ..Ii wonder if we will see the same pattern here after the dust has settled ?
i have my reservations when ¨Jacks  money ¨and sponsorship money get mixed with Govt funds . which requires accopuntability because it belongs to all of us who pay taxes, .... you know it can result in a situation which we have experienced before ....but who is watching the purse ...go warriors !!

Football / Is big money ruining football ?
« on: May 06, 2006, 04:56:33 AM »
I certainly would like to get the views of forumites on this one. We all know the situation with present day Chelsea and with barcelona, ac milan and Real madrid in the past. It seems that big money clubs have paid their way into football history. Coaches players etc are assembled ....already shelled as the nuts men say ... then simply put on the field to do what they can but where will it end ?
will this trend see the end of the middle and small clubs which breed the talent but will not be able to keep their players and compete at the highest level ?
If the feeder clubs go out of the top competition then the big clubs will also suffer as they buy ready made players or need the smaller clubs to get their players ready.
Surely FIFA must realise the if nothing is done soon the  bubble will burst and money will destroy football as we know it .

116
I know the first thing will be that she is a college student but darrel and Mark are as well . From what I have read the funds could buy out the scholarship many times !
She is the best female prospect if not the best ever ..... gets little siupport though ...poor family in Tobago mother working at the hilton.... no big support...but burning up the circuit. She also is a young runner , a sort of shot out of the blue...achieved so much in a short time...maybe someone with influence night read this ??

Football / Wildest goals seen !
« on: May 02, 2006, 10:39:05 AM »
Ok so i have some some time ......
maradona's 1st goal in 1986 aganst England rates as the most ludicrous in World Cup history but Randolph Brann used to do that a lot playing for Tringrove in Eddie Hart and in the aranguez league. The man had a good right fist that scored many headers  :rotfl: :rotfl: How many goals were scored by crowd supporters standing near the goal line ??? I am sure someone out there knows what I am talking about.
In fact Eddie hart league  could  lay claim to some bizarre goals and also to some whch werent awarded. Old boys on the forum, like me, must have some story to tell and I welcome that ...it makes work flow at the office when you could dip in to the fountain of the ridiculous.
I could put in my share with a situation where I went into the goal for Tringrove against parliament. Stern john was making a guest appearance for his home team while on holiday and goalkeeper was up for grabs..lets just say....I wonder why ?
Although we were short I took on the challenge even though I too was visiting and only went to see the game.
During the game a parliament player blatently handled the ball then blasted one past me. the referee didn't see and I said nothing. later the same player hit a bullet straight through me into the goal. I calmly picked up the ball and placed it or a goal kick . Since we had no net the referee was convinced that the ball passed outside ...so confident was the goalkeeper in taking the goal kick :rotfl: :rotfl:
Of course the player protested but after taking the kick i reminded him about the hands ball earlier... he laughed  :rotfl: :rotfl:
Stern missed a few, or I saved a few depending on your point of view but he later left me standing with a bullet to retain his reputation of one of the hardest....careful with that word Jai.... kickers in the east.
bush football will always remain in my memory ...for the agony of the feet !

Football / when is it a goal ?
« on: May 01, 2006, 05:40:57 PM »
i must have a lot of time to be posting this but it could make any guiness book...

during a game on eddie Hart ground between tringrove and Joy bells from the church league the referee, Spicer from El Do, gave a gpal to Tringrove but the ball never crossed the line.
What happend was a herd of cows was  passing across the field as was common in those days, during the match.  A Tringrove player eluded the opposing goalkeeper and kicked to goal. The ball struck a cow in the middle of the goal. The referee blew for goal and there began the debate that almost ended the friendly.
the referee argued that the ball would have crossed the line and no one was in any doubt that that would have happened but the ball never crossed the line ! the rule is that a goal can only be scored if the ball crosses the line !
this may seem a trivial debate but did you see the squirrel at Highbury park ? What if a ball trickling towards goal was stopped by the squirrel ???
What would the referee do ? Dont say it could never happen because a squirrel is not supposed to be able to get on the field. What if a spectator stopped a ball on the goalline with every defender beaten ???

Football / How the World Champions prepare
« on: May 01, 2006, 08:00:13 AM »
http://www.goal.com/en/articolo.aspx?contenutoId=41957

I just thought I would point out a little difference in the approach of our local coaches and those of the powerful football nations. We always are very confident of victory before every tournament and can find a reason why we lost after. The excuse book is used cover to cover in the local sense from lack of fitness on the part of the players to the players not playing with heart.
Lack of preparedness on the part of the tech. staff is however seldom seen as the reason for poor results , neither is failure to research the opponent.... ¨we doh have to know about dem, deh have to know about we ¨
well the World Champions who are still rated no 1 can teach us a lot of things ...
Just a message for the future
