What about Track & Field / Re: Gatlin says he's not afraid of Bolt
« on: July 12, 2012, 07:21:39 PM »
For someone who was banned for 4 years to come back and be crowing..steups...

for Gatlin sake.. hope  he runnin clean

gatlin has the 3rd fastest time this year and yuh beating down the man.  i still think the 100m battle is between bolt and blake and the rest fighting up for bronze.  however gatlin like he has a big chip on his shoulder and out to prove his 2004 gold was not a drug medal.

right now my predictions for the 100 are Bolt, Blake, Gatlin in that order.  If Gay is 100% healthy (very unlikely), I have him down for bronze.  if anybody slip up Bledman or Asafa could squeeze in for bronze.  The dark horse is Torpedo.

Dark horse to do what? Make the final??
You cannot be sure in advance if RT won't hit his best form just at the right time for Olympics.
At his best he is a 9.8x sprinter which could be good enough for a medal in the final if one or more of the 3 pre-race favorites slip up.

Let’s stop with the unneeded negatives for now and back all our athletes who have just qualified from our National Trials to represent us at the London Olympics nah man?!

And based upon the results of our Trials that just took place RT is currently our 2nd best sprinter and what if he improves further?

Come on guys this is not the time to fight down the men who are putting their guts on the line to represent the red, white and black and make us proud as a nation celebrating of 50 years of Independence! :beermug:

Brandon Benjamin is 1 of my bff neighbour. He has come a long way and a longer way 2 go. As 4 DB loudest of steups d fella was neva d sharpest tool in d shed and his career mirror dat.

Well I think given the comments you usually make, that here, you are really expressing disappointment that DB did not go on to fulfill his potential. He will merely join so many others though , for all sorts of reasons, who never made it to the top at senior level...footballers, basketballers, cricketers, tennis players etc. world wide have fallen or failed the armchair critic.

If you had ever seen DB run in his heyday, Lawrence Rowe, Carl Hooper, etc you would have been witness to some memorable performances that time will never erase.

You would have long passed if you were a west indies supporter ...you have to learn to accept what is there .... high hopes ..great expectations can create haters .... and i know you are not that ....

I have given up on DB getting to the top as a senior but i will cherish the memory of a truly fantastic young sprinter who went to el dorado ... was not blessed academically but he was a joy to watch on the track ...was it Tyson Gay who described him as having the best running style he had ever seen ... I eh seen many but i am still to see anyone who could make running look so easy ...just as Rowe and Hooper made batting look so easy ...but they wont go down in the annals as some lesser talents have  ... but in own minds they will always be where the air is rare ...
As an aside ..DB still holds the record as the fastest junior the world has ever seen ... and I am privileged to say I saw him run.

Football / Re: Is there a better coach than Del Bosque?
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:24:55 AM »
Questions of who is/was the best player or coach will always arise ... For me present day football tactics  will soon mirror those of Spain ..and why not ? everyone follows a winner ! We have seen a change already even during the last season where Man City, Chelsea, Swansea etc. ,in " boom kick ' England, were trying to keep possession and score from a position of strength... a long way from the system heavily guided  by two linesmen and air traffic control !

I left out man United because Sir Alex had already confirmed what I have just written when he commented that the Barcelona system was the best in world football. So united had already been making adjustments to their football and type of recruits in the recent past .

For me Pep guardiola rates very highly in any best coaches discussion   having  transformed European football by Barcelona domination over the last few years ever since he took over a sliding Barcelona after the Rijkard- Ronaldinho hiatus. Pep took largely the same team and made the viewing audience change the way they appreciated how great teams were constructed...there was no need for the power forward ...so Ibra was surplus to requirements ...the dominant defensive ( makele/Viera/ type ) player was replaced in the mind set by the swift mobile unit of quick thought and feet players ...Xavi, iniesta, Messi, etc. they can all close you down and in very short order. Possession was the name of the game.
Teamplay  became the focus rather than the maximum player , so much so that Messi is only now proving to the world for sure , that he can exist outside of the Barcelona system. ( this is not new however as it formed the basis for the Brazilian style which has seen them win so many Wcups ) " if we have it you cant score to quote one brazilian coach " ... funny how england's new coach is against that ... guess they will remain in the football wilderness even longer now ..

Del bosque also has my greatest respect for the way he was able to improve spanish footballing fortunes ..yes improve because he has the option of combining the best Spain has to offer ( barcelona and Real madrid ), on this philosophy. He never tried to change the way the Barcelona players on the squad played instead bringing in the others to fit a tried and proven system.

I wonder how the madrid heirachy feels now ..they would have to admit that the coach they fired beacuse he was not a " big name coach " even after he won La liga and showed the world the galacticos , has now become the cornerstone of Spanish and I daresay world football.

Those two are in a tussle in my mind but i am leaning to the initiator rather than the perfector in this one.

Well done to our juniors and all the best to St. Kitts but if we bring our top guys and providing all exchanges are made swiftly they will be no trouble. We're missing KB, RT, RS... I think Callender has the 3rd leg- he is the best man for the job.

@ Jai John: Yuh messing up we nice National Champs Thread man, doh want to hear bout them British athletes in this thread!

Them two last posts of yours above about Chambers should be in Thread For London Olympics 2012 at this link: http://www.socawarriors.net/forum/index.php?topic=55073.0

PS: Chambers will not make the final in London unless he can sub-10 so in his current form I don't see him making the 100m final. As for Brown, no one has condemned him but lets be realistic, he was 2nd to last in the 100m finals at our National Trials so before we focus on him, let’s focus on the 6 better performing T&T athletes who came ahead of him in the 100m final nah man?

Ok read and spell session ... I quoted the story on chambers to make 3 points .... to show how much an achievement Jamol james managed last saturday .... to show how much superior our own national championships 100 metres was to that of the uk and to show how they appreciated the 10.25 time done by Chambers which is the time Brown ran in the semis ...which someone condemned as so slow ...
I dont have Chambers as any factor in the olympics my favourite is Richard Torpedo thompson .....the man for the big occasion . I also dont have Darrel as even a relay option anymore but he is not as bad as some would have us believe...

took this off the UK telegraph ..........After a summer spent in the slow lane, the relief for Chambers was so intense that his post-race celebrations included an expletive-filled outburst picked up by the BBC cameras – a transgression for he which he later apologised.

“I was pumped up and just got carried away,” said Chambers. “I just wanted to win and you need that bit of anger in you, but I’m sorry and I didn’t mean it.

Chambers, 34, won in 10.25 sec with Gemili taking second place 0.04 sec behind, though in terms of Olympic selection it is Gemili’s result that is the more significant.

UK Athletics rules stipulate that a top-two finish guarantees a place at the London Olympics as long as the athlete has achieved the Olympic ‘A’ standard this summer. In the case of the men’s 100m, that is 10.18 sec.

Just reflect that he ran the exact time as darrel Brown ran in the semis on Saturday to win the olympic qualifier ....we condemn Brown yet the Uk hails their runner who won in the same time ....is why you kyah please trinis !!!

London 2012 Olympics: Dwain Chambers set for Team GB
Dwain Chambers looks certain to be selected for the individual 100 metres at the London Olympics after being spared the burden of having to chase the A qualifying standard at the European Championships, which open in Helsinki on Wednesday.
London 2012 Olympics: Dwain Chambers set for Team GB selection

By Simon Hart, in Helsinki

6:45PM BST 25 Jun 2012

Chambers outpaced teenager Adam Gemili to win the 100m at the Olympic trials in Birmingham on Saturday but still needed to run the A standard of 10.18sec between now and the selection meeting on July 2 to guarantee his ticket to London 2012.

However, in a clear signal that he has already done enough to secure his selection, he has been given permission by UK Athletics not to contest the individual 100m in Finland, where he would risk injury and fatigue by having to run three rounds on consecutive days.

Having succeeded in his battle to overturn a lifetime British Olympic Authority ban, Chambers was one of 109 athletes named in a provisional British squad for Helsinki last week, but it was always head coach Charles van Commenee’s plan to ‘deselect’ those track athletes who sealed their Olympic spots at the trials to keep them as fresh as possible for London.

The squad has now been trimmed to 82 athletes.

While Chambers has not been given a guaranteed place in London, it has been agreed by UK Athletics that he is sufficiently likely to be selected not to risk injury with the Games less than five weeks away.

Well Adell Coulthrust just posted a 11.70 running into -0.8 wind for the 100 metres. He is just 12 folks ...tuns 13 next year ! Oh I should mention that he won easily ...not pushed .

135
Adelle Colthrust led a procession in both the 100m and 200 metres for boys under 13 at the primary school games at the HC Stadium last thursday. What was amazing is that he sped to a 11.77 clocking in the 100m !! needless to say the older boys could not come near his time. In fact for the entire season he has been running  faster  than boys much older than he. He also ran a relay leg which wowed the stadium ...he received the baton last and handed off first between second and third leg. Now it seems like a lot to be said about him after all he is just 13 but i encourage anyone who will be around next weekend to go juvenile champs . You wont regret it.

Roberto Mancini has performed a U-turn over Mario Balotelli and has insisted the striker will not be leaving Manchester City, just over a month after suggesting he had no future at the club.

Balotelli's mindless red card in last month's defeat at Arsenal prompted Mancini to admit the controversy-prone forward would "probably" be sold this summer, but the manager's stance has softened following the club's Premier League title win on Sunday. Reports in Italy had suggested Balotelli could head to Milan in a swap deal which would bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Etihad, however that has been dismissed.

"Ibra is a great player but I don't think Milan want to sell him," Mancini told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I'm going to be honest, we haven't looked at the market yet. In the last five weeks our only focus has been the league. Mario has been very clear and I reiterate: Balotelli will remain at Manchester 101%."

Balotelli, who set up Sergio Agüero for the 94th-minute winner against Queens Park Rangers which earned City their first league title since 1968, was on Monday named in Italy's preliminary squad for Euro 2012. The 21-year-old was included despite being dropped by the national coach, Cesare Prandelli, earlier this season for disciplinary reasons.

"I am confident he will have a great European Championship," Mancini said. "I hope Mario will be the leader of the national team because he is the best Italian striker. He just needs to make his brain work. That is his only problem."

APB FOR JAI JOHN!!

AMBER ALERT!!

Villareal get relegated yesterday... that is pressure... dem never finish lower than 7th or 8th de last decade.

Real sad day ...more than a relegation but rather a statement to illustrate that money is now controlling football ..... every team succeeding today has to spend hundreds of millions to attract the best players ...and those with lots of it ...buy players and farm them out so other competitors cant get them. So its like I dont really need him but you cant have him either !

Villareal lost the prize because they are forced into the wrong model ...they really did not have an option but to sell their best players . You cant do that and survive any decent league but what choice did they have ? If they buy big players they have to increase the wage bill ...they have a tiny stadium and will never attract large crowds at home because they simply cannot accommodate them.

So the world's biggest small side that shared  second round points  with barcelona and Real madrid now have a big task at hand ...how to keep their players who would obviously want first team football. If they could play with this team they would be back up next season ...just like Manchester united some years ago ....but I really cant see  Rossi, Nilmar etc playing second tier football and expecting to play for their country . So it looks like the end of a good run finally unless FIFA goes the basketball and soccer salary cap way that the Us has put in to avoid just what has happened here .
I wonder who can really celebrate when a team like Villareal which plays the football that we the afficionados love, gets relegated with little hope to rise again soon ?
Can Villareal build from their youth team .? ..with a good coach they can ...can they keep their best players ...not even the best coach can help them there ...and no Arab is going to buy a club from a small town and with a small stadium ...unless he wants to take up the challenge ...when you have  money to blow you own 10 cqrs ...who can understand the ways of the rich and famous ...not I . Calling Sheik al Thani ....S.O.S

139
have heard this talk about Yorke doing his badges for years ....he is now completing his " B" liscence ? I hope he can really succeed as a coach as it is not automatic that a good player makes a good coach. we all know that T&T needs good coaches to work at all levels.  I see we are still in the one man go save us mode ....... Coffee's brewing folks ....

Football / Re: 2011/12 Premier League Thread.
« on: May 14, 2012, 01:15:37 PM »
Have been just reading the posts without comment  but after witnessing one of the most scintillating games for many a year I just had to comment. It had everything ...drama, tears, shouts of joy ...twists ... no one could have predicted this !

From a pure football perspective it was nothing to shout about ...we have seen many better games this season and every season but in terms of drama ...nothing to beat this game.

I stayed and watched the '99 European cup final to the very end and I did the same on Sunday. I never thought I would see such an impossibility again.

I was moved after the game to question my appraisal of Ballotelli though . W ith half hour to go  I was thinking that it would be a good move to bring him on for either Tevez or Arguero ...good thing the coach made the right choice there. Imagine  if ( ballotelli) the stone that the builder rejected became the corner stone ? ...guess I am a drama king ..it is what makes sports so exciting ...Bert Cameron in the 400 meters olympic semi finals... Mardona scoring the second against england...Ali knocking out Foreman after being dominated and closer to home, lawrence getting it right against Bahrain ... but even after seeing all the above and then some I still never expected this.

But I now have great respect for mario Ballotelli ...for me he was the game changer . I was wondering which Ballotelli would show up for the last game and did not really expect much ...told he wont figure for City next year, suspended, disciplined, made to sit on the bench for tevez ..but then again tevez was playing so maybe Ballotelli might get a play and do something ..and here is the why the but .....from his first touch of the ball you could tell he had come to play ...he never once looked like the task was too great. when you get someone who is already a proven goalscorer with so much potential come on with that attitude you will fight to the end.

Ballotelli signalled that he had come to join the battle and was not giving up ...he hit with both feet...tried headers ..made passes ..and even tackled and won the ball just outside his own penalty area in a tackle worthy of any of the great defenders . The commentator ( I was listening to the spanish commentary) called his name wrong as he was not expecting ballotelli to be back there with his team needing goals ( all yuh know black people all look the same right ) ...he was everwhere but the pass he made while falling to the ground in the area which set up the winning goal was for me the icing on the cake ...hats off to you " Super Mario ' I take back all the negative things I have said about you . If City let you go after this performance they would show that they know nothing about sport . somehow I dont think they would .

A millionaire playboy at 20, living away from home , partying with the jet set ...believing that the world is your oyster ...hey it has happened , is happening , will happen ..just remember George Best, Cantona, Maradona. some make it through others do not... yesterday's performance  convinces me that Mario has learnt his lesson and if that is really so he could be one hell of a player!

Well emotions drained I now resign myself to the exciting world of work .....later  I will continue to follow the exploits of the master of the impossible pass .... and the pretenders to the throne of the best team in south america.

141
on another note ...I saw a video of Messi at age 10 or so ...he was just dribbling ..like any youngster at that age would be inclined to do ...left without development he would be just like some of our former intercol stars ....Rocke, marcelle, Clausel, ...> Folks forget Messi is himself a product of the barcelone system . The ones who made it went out ...Leonsen, latapy, Yorke , shaka ...they went into development programmes and we have seen the results . I also believe Hutson Charles, Ian clausel, garnet Craig, anton corneal with good breaks could have become stars as well ...there were others ...Jughead, Bert neptune, Ron la forest, sammy etc...
when will we ever learn / when will we ever learn ...we cant get any of our players into top football leagues anymore ...we writing up players ..calling them pros ...as they are playing for money ...long time professional meant more than that . Yes a you could have a degree but there are degrees of degrees...where did you obtain your degree ....If the answer is harvard , Cambridge Oxford or the like you ask no further questions ...some of our pros returning home cant even make the team ...go figure!

142
I can see we agree that development is lacking if we are to reach higher levels. when i mentioned about primary school players having talent as any of their age group in top footballing countries I was referring to raw talent. Let usain not train ..or Lebron ...or Messi ...or Tevez ...they would look ordinary. What they have is talent that < if nurtured in the proper manner, would take them higher than most sportspeople their age.
i have been following youth football for a long time ...I expected to see wondrous things from 12 year olds in latin america ....I see the same ability in Yes ...Arima primary school boys ....not everyone but you will see standout players . They have the talent ... no development plan ...will see them in 10 years at the same level just bigger.
When villa took Yorke ...The story goes that there  was no difference between him and Hutchinson ...so they decided on Yorke because he was younger. One football pundit laughed saying " if he turns out to be a primership player than i am a monkey's uncle " we all know that Yorke made it and played for one of the world's best teams ..in the premiership ..but what about hutchinson ? he returned home ....!!
Now if he was even at a little lower level than Yorke how come he did not even command a place on the local team ? ...
If we continue to let " Sir " take charge between 12-19 we will discover by age 23 that our players are way behind in awareness of how the game is to be played and that is why I posted the story about Boca and Barcelona .
The barca prototype is now the blueprint for the way football is to be played but Boca produces the players who can adapt to it ...so why not hook up ? We on the other hand believe we can do it by ourselves ( go local ...give angus a try, give hutson ah try give Anton another try ) are not aligning ourselves with any academy...football club...etc to help in our players development ... others are doing it however and before we realise it barbados, jamaica, St kitts , St lucia will have done it.....but we shall see.

143
what is sad ...and that why I still bother ...is that i see young footballers ...primary school age who are as good as anyone you will see in brazil, spain, venezuela, argentina, england, etc...but we have no plan for development ....and the gap beteen us and the big teams widens as they grow older.
look where our focus is now ...the under 23 team ...that i can understand ...and the senior team ??? you hearing anything about a plan for the under 12 ? under 14? under 16 ? nah ...just leave dem to the colleges league where Sir will sort them out ...Ah pues !

144
To be fair, it doesn't help when Argentina has a population of over 40 million and Spain has over 46 million. That means that for every quality player we produce, they produce more than 40. And quality breeds quality, so the more you produce, the higher the standard.
One Yorke, one Latapy, one Dwarika, one Hislop, one Jones....meanwhile, you can name 40 Argentinians and Spaniards.
We can get better, with proper infrastructure we can rule the Caribbean, and maybe then we can one day beat Argentina or Spain in a one off, but don't set your sights so high that you can never achieve.

Just looking for us to improve our standard that's all ......good results we can hope for when we have something on which we could base our confidence...
I dont aspire to beat argentina or brazil or spain ....not yet anyway maybe not even in my life time ...but surely we are lagging too far behind in our region. It is not even realistic for us to think of beating USA, Costa Rica, Mexico( unless they have already secured qualification ) jamaica, etc. that must change

145
seems like successful teams will continue to be successful by staying ahead of the game. Here the team with the most International titles is joining with the best team in the world today in a symbiotic relationship.
T&T however, starts from scratch ...not just scratch ...but local scratch ........ every time ! we must do it on own  even when it is obvious that our technical, tactical and even physical capabilities are hopelessly outdated.
so we begin again ....starting from way behind the eight ball . Years ago when jamaica football was far behind ours  they confronted that reality and made a significant move, which they have repeated quite a number of times. They sent an entire squad to Brazil to start over with a different approach ....they are now way ahead of us and if we feel we could get ahead of them anytime soon then we must be mad !
If we continue to do things the same way yet expect different results ..then we must surely be mad !

Well Boca and Barca have shown that they want to remain among the best ...what is our goal really ? Tiger woods on top of the world ..reinvented his swing ! ....there must be a reason why some are successful ...we are yet to discover the magic formula ..... even when it may be staring us in the face.

Barcelona secure first refusal on Boca Juniors players
The Blaugrana have former a strategic alliance with the Argentine outfit which is likely to prove mutually beneficial in terms of the development of young talent
Barcelona revealed that they have reached an agreement with Boca Juniors which secures the Blaugrana's first refusal on the Argentine outfit's players.

As part of the deal, which was announced on the Blaugrana's official website on Friday, the Catalan Division giants will transfer their 'La Candela' coaching project to Boca.

"In return, Barcelona gets first choice regarding the players that represented the club in Argentina and that from now on shall be wearing the shirt of Boca Juniors," an official statement read.

"The same right will relate to other young players emerging from the club's youth system.

"Boca Juniors will be able to count on the Barcelona structure and human resources for the instruction of their own coaches, the aim being to transmit their philosophy and methods regarding the development of youth footballers."

In addition, Barca have confirmed that they retain the future rights to "more than 300 players" who are now at other clubs in Argentina.

Barca have long enjoyed a productive relationship with Boca, with Diego Maradona and Juan Roman Riquelme among those to have arrived at Camp Nou direct from La Bombonera.

Some people just don't get it. This was posted on the TTFF's Facebook page.

Brent Sancho and company is excercising a little greed and blatantly as well..The money was just a by so....promise!!! it has no documented proof that they deserve that money..according to mr warner!! why wudnt u c edwards or yorke fighting so hard for the money..they dont need it! but these local footballers who went 2 germny like WOLFE is 2 dam Boldface..he didnt play ONE game, the team didnt win ONE match, havent scored ONE goal, they still got ONE mill, since dat we only qualify for ONE gold cup, havent achieve ONE caribbean title, they havent done ONE thing to develop the game..W;re still Languishing as eighty ONE in world rankings. Dats y Crouch hit Sancho ONE pull in his head and "ONE" the game.. just now we will rank ONE hundred and twenty ONE in the world 4ever..

None so blind as those who will not see ....... everone i meet with that argument i would say .... so let warner keep all den ? we still lowly rated etc. but money pass ...so whey it went ? If the players did not bring up this matter we would have had no idea how much money was involved in this campaign ...and over the years how much more went unreported ...unaccounted for.

For me this matter has served to derail a gravy train that would have come crashing down ...eventually ! It is coming to a stop or so it would seem, rather than a crashing halt ...so if it is we have to break down the old and build over I see that as a positive ...and given a chance i would mount a photo of our " heroes ' who dared to defy the previously " invincible one' who made big men cringe and an entire executive so scared  even admitting that they just handed over money assigned to them  ...no questions asked.
I found Brent Sancho to be a good leader in all this and I look forward to his continued contribution as the matter unfolds .....If you stand for nothing ...you fall for everything !

After a long lay off I was pleased to see a topic like this ..... Nothing like discovering them early and putting nurturing systems in place . I hear MLA is being supervised now as she is such a talent ... no scholarship prospects, no job and little focus it was good to hear that the high school drop out is not being allowed to drop out !
I know I mentioned john mark Constantine awhile ago but my interest is now in monitoring a younster called Adelle Colthrust. Not since 13 year old darrel brown have I been so excited to see a youngster run. it is becoming boring nowadays though as he is clearly above his age group ...just as Darrel was.

Colthrust is still running under 13  this year ...after he cleaned up the division in both sprints last year ... He beat the top runners nationally last year and they hev moved up in age . Asd a result his races this season so far have been procession like and I would even back him to take a call in the 200 metres and still win. ( B mobile take note ...dont wait .. connect as quick as Adelle !! )

Still in primary school and turning 12 this year he has already cleaned up locally and in the caribbean in his age group ...he already looks the part of a seasoned athlete ....his coach at southern athletic just brings him faster each year ...I think he manages less than 5 athletes ...great form, tremendous acceleration, making it look so easy.

Again Lasana shows his ineptitude as both journalist and writer.....is there anything new here? Or is he best at penning poor commentaries...........

...guess  you may have overlooked this ....Joseph Goebbels, the Reich Minister of Propaganda in Nazi Germany, once remarked that: "the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly—it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over." ...else you would have seen the brillance in yet another well written article.
...nah you could not have missed so obvious a statement followed by reinforcement .....you too good for dat !

It is as if barca sent Fabregas to learn to head the ball in England then to return to make the team complete. Notice how many crosses Alves made into the box ...a rarity when Fabregas is not playing ... few spanish players head the ball ...fabregas is among the best with yet another explosive header...reminds me of no teeth joe Jordan.
Even Goalkeepers  had some trouble with him with crosses...
