argentina is the most successful country in youth football. They are the only country to win every world football tournament yet we have never seen it fit to get an argentinian in T&T.

Because dey racist.  Let dem stay dey.

And de scots and  British where most of our pros play aren´t ? In fact they are racist against their own countryman as well and i dont see anyone saying our boys shouldn´t play there !

If money is not the problem...then what is ??? A top class coach costs alot of money....If we could get someone good for cheaper I am sure TTFF(Jack Warner moneymaker) would jump for the chance...They don't spend money on anything else anyway

Exactly ! jamaica invested in a top brazilian coach in lazaroni, not only to coach their WC team but to upgrade their local coaches and youth teams. Jamaica qualified their youth team after the senior WC . I dont think I need to say how far they were behind us i football just only a few years ago.
That is not now the case

Coops...I like your vibes on this one.
You cannot coach here in the US in certain environments unless you have a license. Education is education on any level...in the ever evolving modern game of football you have to keep up with new trends; ideas and technology.
There is so much more you learn about football once you go from playing to coaching, and so much more you learn about coaching once you go from course to course.
Remember...just because I pass my A' Levels doesn't mean I can be an effective teacher, I have to go to Teachers Training College to become a master of my skill and further expand my knowledge base of my subject area...in this case " football".

maybe the teacher was not a big drawing card ?? what if carlos perreira was giving that same course in Tobago ...I bet even some trinis would have given their adresses as store bay, bon accord ..mey fadder from deh !

Football / Why change the BEENHACKER plan ?
« on: February 10, 2006, 08:15:45 PM »
The recent naming of an under 21 technical team to tour the USA  really has me asking the above question. I thought we would have learnt from our success with the soca warriors but it seems we missed the forest for the trees !
Why are we trying to reinvent the wheel when Beenie has shown that you need horses for courses. Many are patting Lincoln on the back saying what a good job he is doing but are we on the right track ?
Beenie showed the difference between a good international manager and a local one with our Soca warriors. There is no comparison. Our locals need training and exposure which can be achieved by using the Beenie plan. I fully endorse the appointment of Anton and would also have been pleased with Dion La foucade to work with an experienced manager as these are young intelligent men who, given the opportunity could make a valuable contribution.
International schools worldwide cost a lot of money as we know. the teachers however must have university degres and teacher training with some even possessing doctorates for primary school education ! Compare that to the system where 5 O levls gets you a teaching job at a primary school.
I would have preferred to see a World class manager  being sought now to work with the under 17 and 21 with the same la forest etc as assistants.
In Brazil and Argentina which  have  the world´s best youth teams, the best coaches and managers are selected to work with the youth teams as  these are their stars of the future. By the time you get to the seniors they can handle their stories and a good PR manager could get the job done.
We read of Luxemburgo, Pekerman, Perreira,Solari  etc ..they were all successful youth coaches who guided their selections to world tournament victories. What training do our coaches get ??? a course run by some tecnhocrat at the stadium for two weeks ? Wouldn´t it make more sense to get a top technician  in now rather than after we play the caribbean tournament ? Remeber  what happened when LA FORSET TOOK A YOUTH TEAM TO A CARIBBEAN TOURNAMENT ...we didnt win a game ! Barbados etc sure had a laugh at us !
Are we going to revert to the one month before to be ready syndrome.
I dont think money is a problem since the govt is committed to development and jack´s purse, by his own admission, is limitless. WE will reap what we sow !
So Lincoln , and I know you read this forum ..please explain why we have changed the plan ?

argentina, holland, ivory coast and serbia and montenegro
Why ?

bess team in europe at de moment on current results is holland, bess team in s.america argentina, bess team in africa, ivory coast and serbia is a very tought team, full of surprises

Ha,  but you know WC is about history and pedigree. what is the pedigree of Ivory coast, Serbia ? Just a few teams win the WC and win it over and over ! last new team was France after how many years ??
an upset is possible in any football game as we all know and we have to wait to see but the quality of players on Argentina and holland separate the teams into top and bottom 2 in my view.

All tis happen when they start buying players like Beckham...he still aint win a trophy dey to my knowledge...

YI agree. i think the next change at Real is the president. He brought Beckham in and disrupted the team. he changed Del bosque´s formula and ended up with two right sided crossers. You notice I dont say wingers because the jury is still out on what you can call beckham.... a winger....no...a right sided midfielder..yes...creative midfielder...no...defensive midfielder...maybe...definetely a very good crosser oif the ball,,,so a good crosser. So they had to fit him in in a team which had Figo. when he was rested Adidas protested so the manager camacho left...the players were bigger than the him!
they bought Woodgate and he was injured ...didn´t play for two years and only plays now and then these days. they refused Real rejects really showed them  ! they gave up Eto not wanting him. they bought Pablo garcia, Graveson and fell for the hype with Baptista and Robinho...
they sold makekele !!!!!!! and have never replaced him. they sold Hiero and the defence has been leaky% coaches in 2 years ???? Florentino Perez´days are numbered.

nmany experts have concluded that argentina´s group is the group of death but if argentina are aspiring to win the competion I dont see them fearing Ivory coast or the serbians or even perennial WC chockers holland.

After he claim he betta dan Eto'o.. he choke in de ANC finals..throwing way ah sittah around the six yards.. and still throwing way he penalty in de shootout. So now ah sure he go act like he have ah lil more humility now!!

reminds me of the one who posted de Barca cannot be beaten thread...I wonder what he has to say now ? ¨They can all play they can all finish who can stop the brazilians ¨...one Paulo Rossi begged to differ !

Ah know TI will like this;

Correct me if I'm wrong, I could be mistaken but wasn't Roger Milla left out of the WC squad and admist public outrage, some King or official in Cameroon had to pull rank and demand that he be selected?

TI, maybe if yuh give Manning ah call, he might put in a good word for yuh boy. ;D ;D

And allyuh does complain dat TI wont give his favourite toipc ah rest !
Asan aside carlos Valderrama also gave some good encourgement to the T&T team. he last was supposed to be be taking up a job in Mexico. He is the kind of high profile manager  we should be looking to attract to mold our youth . No disrespect to our locals but these big name players can open doors the locals cannot.
argentina is the most successful country in youth football. They are the only country to win every world football tournament yet we have never seen it fit to get an argentinian in T&T. we get the experts from Exon. BP, atlantic Lng in the energy sector because these are the world leaders but for football the approach is different ...is corneal, La forest, etc every year !

Football / Re: Trinidad and Tobago Profile
« on: February 10, 2006, 06:57:43 PM »
Some of you can't really be serious to believe that this profile is giving away information to our WC opponents. We are talking about WC...you don't think that our opponents have this and much more information about our players...at this level.
I'm talking about scouts who are at our players club matches; a video analyst who's only job is to break down video...play by play-minute by minute...connected to their TACT-FOOT computer PROGRAM which can analyse down to the number of touches a player takes during a match and what their normal tendencies are.
HA! YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just good speculation at best by one of our enthused fan of the Warriors. Props to the author for the time spent putting it together, but don't let anyone who has replied negatively to your post to mislead you into thinking about applying for a job as a WC team analyst :rotfl:

yeah man i agree ! We often judge others by our standards and seem not to be able to fathom that people may do things differently. we are a one month to prepare country. This WC may change that  but largely we hear about screening for a team for a competition a few nmoths before the actual tournament.
It is not like that in many other serious football countries. We are accustomed to naming a coach a few mohths before the tournamant, giving him a team which some body else pick, then disbanding the team after the tournament only to look for a team again for de next tournment.
Beenie tried to put some order for we as he decided who will play, who will be his assistant etc. a feature which I hope will continue as we seek to upgrade our football. Incidentally beenie will be referred to as our manager in the WC , not coach as we say.
I remember the embarassement when a national team toured Costa rICA AND THE LOCAL PRESS asked to speak to the Manager and the team manager, in our context went to speak on tec. issues.
Int. press dont care who make the arrangements for teams, they want to interview the tech. in charge of the team. Anybody can name the england or brazil manager...you know the one who makes arrangements for hotels etc ???
I want to thank Midnight for his work as I dont see the local games and players . The other teams in the group wont leave their preparation to midnight but will go to see our games against iceland , peru etc for they know that what matters is how we are now not what we were before.
i cant believe that people are worried that we are giving away secrets ????? Today is anything secret ?

Isn´t he in  the same situation or worse than hardest ? the man is just now coming off limping and we can have aspirations for a world cup place for him ? what about playing with a team etc.. you know the concerns men had which excluded hardest and Dwarika ?

Nah..not the same situation. He have a professional club to work with and proper physios giving him individual attention. Hardest was unemployed...Hector being paid to work on his fitness. like the coach say, he playing for his bread and butter here, which may be more motivation than the world cup. Play your ass off to get back in shape or u will head back to the caribbean unemployed HOPING somebody see u and give u a sweat..then he wiil be like hardest.

Question is ..is he playing games ??? Gym work is not gooiod enough for WC . same standards for all I say ! If fitness was all then Kerston Manswell could well force his way into the team !

A Russian name Blokin had Olympic speed we. He could ah play too. Rats from Russia was not easy either

Locally Steve David had blistering Speed. He use to run track for Police in the day.
Warren Archibal say no more

In my time Trevor "the train" Federicks from Point Civic and Eddy "throw way" Jones from Palo Seco.

!0.3 10.4 in police sports man ! steve david for me was de fastest runner. He could have taken up track if he wanted instead he chose to score goals.

I for one have no expectations. We made it to the World Cup and that was all I was hoping and praying for. I would love us to make it to the second round but if it ent happen is no scene.

The only thing I want to come out of all of this is the realization by the powers that be that we need a system to properly develop our younger players. With that the team could only get stronger and better.

Vibes it up.

if only some more fans would see the big picture and not only the little slide show !

So you see yourself as a part of the "elite few" that can see the "big picture"?  Magnaminous of you to share your vision with the plebs.

I dont see myself as part of any elite few for seeing the obvious .... i would have thought that you would have picked up on the point about planning for future generations using the success of this team to motivate others.
but then if you only wanted to cticise for critising sake ...you succeeded !

Some schoolboy dribblers

Sean Eusebe (QRC early 90's)

Arnold Dwarika (Malick early 90's)

Terry St. Louis (what school Juggy went again?  I play with him at Airport Authority)

Marvin Raeburn (Fatima early 90's)

____ Maingot (Presentation College Chaguanas, early 90's)  that indian was worries

Colin Rocke (CIC, early - mid 80's)

Of course, the legendary Ian Clauzel (Mucurapo, late 70's)

Russell Latapy (Sando Tech., early - mid 80's)

Warhead (Belmont Junior Sec., late 80's)

If yuh talking schoolboy dribblers put in Wise, Marcelle and Clausel for me please ! I once saw clausel wrong foot ah whole QRC defence . Wise, as i mentioned earlier, beat ah man clean off the tv screen earning a strong reprimand from Ashford jackman on TTT sports for what he did next.

LIVERPOOL DIDN'T EVEN MUSTER UP A DECENT CHANCE. 100 PERCENT OUTPLAYED.CHELSEA UP 2-0 80TH MIN. LIVERPOOL KEEPER JUST GET A RED. BRING ON BARCA!!!

Beating Liverpool again is no indication that Chelsea is ready for Barca. Look at the points difference between the two teams and the results of the last 4 or 5 games between the two and you will see Chelsea has the measure of Liverpool including a 4-0 lickin to boot ( no pun intended ) .
football is like that Team A might beat team b but not c . Whereas c might be able to beat A.
We have had good examples of this at home with a  QRC / CIC or El Do / St augustine which will always get your attention because of the rivalries and it doies not matter whether it is a top or bottom of the table clash.
for the game against Barca what will matter is who shows up to the dance.
Chelsea might be up to full strength but Barca may not be . Who knows whether Eto will return fit from the ANC. Messi pulled a muscle last week, Xavi is out,  Motta is out injured as well. Silvinho is uncertain and Gio is only now coming back to the bench.
Barca could therefore be a totally different team when they meet Chelsea than the one running riot in Spain. Their recent losses can no doubt be put down to the changes the team has jad to make rather than a loss of form .
On pure football Chelsea is a few leagues behind vintage Barca but in football goals win matches as chelsea showed on sunday.

we have a better team than JA, we will win and reach the second round, what i notice about trinidad is at any senior level of sport, we shine, more often than not, when we apply ourselves, anything is possible, however we are missin de spark from the team in an exceptional player, if we get this or get 2, we will definately have something more than the second round or a few victories to look forward to

vibes it up

Wishful thinking ,,,,,, take a look at the players in the news column every weekend. See how many of our stars make their respective teams, see how many play 90 mins, then check the level of these teams.  You really think one or two players will get us there ?
We not ready for the next step ...we have to creep a little longer before we walk. You mentioned that trinis do well at senior level at all sports ...that´s true but dont forget the learning curve ! We remember ATo doing well in the olympics but we forget his first olympics. we remember crafie winning our first gold ,medal but forget his pain in the previous olympics which motivated him to succeed. The list is long Brown, burns, Bovell, yorke( 2 years on villa sidelines before he got a chance ) latapy in jamaica and portugal lower leagues before porto and boa vista.
The list is long and i can go back to Ray Apollon and leslie stewart but I think you get the picture.

Football / What are our realistic expectations for this team ?
« on: February 05, 2006, 06:59:11 PM »
I am very proud of our team´s achievements. I was glad that I saw the game on TV and can tell my grandchilden.........if I live so long ...that I saw the game. After so many close shaves, we finally made it.
As a supporter of any trini achievement it was fantastic even though the rule book came to our rescue in the end.
As a football fan ...we came 4th in the CONCACAF group and beat a country smaller than us to qualify. I know that there are teams which are better than us which did not make it. I know nigeria with its 120 Million people did not make it. I also know that Nigeria did not have to beat panama, guatemala and bahrain to qualify.
In short my expectations, given our performances thus far, are not high for any further successes. What I hope to see is an improved performance over our last qualifying game against teams the caliber of which we have not had the pleasure to face.
At present we are not missing a spark, we are missing the fire !!
If this is a propaganda forum then only ...we go gih dem 3 comments will be accepted. I know however that many, if not all,  the forumites look at football in various countries and should see that we are not there yet.
If we had to pick a team just from our group would any of our players make the list ??
Now anything could happen in football and i would be more than happy to see us get a victory like Jamaica did in their first WC but I also know that quite a few teams have had to wait until after several attempts to score their first victory.

« on: February 05, 2006, 06:42:16 PM »
We've been lacking that special player for a long long time........Latapy was the last.

St Louis at one point looked like he could have been, but faltered

Jemmot -same thing

Dwarika- same thing

Whitley has something a little special, but I still think his touch is a little too unpolished......

Forget this team though, I think this team has done what it can to put us on the map....the real question, is who do we have in the youth pipeline that could be the next "Latapy" for 2010?

Boy I agree with you fully. Especially the last comment ! This team has done what it can to put us on the map. Honestly this team is very weak. We have had better teams in the country which did not qualify for the WC so this team has achieved.
We are  so caught up in the euphoria of being in the WC that we are exceeding our realities  this time around. My view is that this team can be used to motivate those who will come later to achieve. The strike squad was used in this manner and quite a few of the present lot were motivated by the SQ.
If we are looking to great results in this WC to motivate our youth then we would have missed the opportunity which now exists to piggy back on the team´s present status as WC finalists.

3295
I wonder if anyone on this site has the clout to call for a possibles vs probables game as we used to have in de old days ?  let everyone who is a possible candidate for a place match up against those who most likely have booked their place already. the WC is for those who are ready and in this game or series of games everone must show what they are made of.
If that is done then everyone would feel that the best possible team was arrived at even if their horse didn't make the cut.
I find it very strange however that Corneal could be so specific about the most important piece missing  from the team and refuse to give jemmot a chance. I bet as well if latapy was to suddenly get injured that dwarika would be the first choice replacement above all those ahead of him now. something is not right here fellas amid all de ole talk.
maybe Coeneal needs to be reminded that both he and garnet craig were not selected for the national youth team after trials,  yet were by far among the best players in the college league at the time.
history will show that after much public pressue they were both added to the national youth team and were fixtures after that. Coaches can be wrong as Anton should know .....

T&T vs Norway mid 90s. The Norwegian team was a top rated team at the time and the general- little magician- Latas had them and the crowd going. I think we one that 2-1

think it was 3-2 back in '95 or '96
It was in the OVAL and yes it was BOSS!! We make ESPN INTERNATIONAL that day a s one of the biggest upsets of the day.

I am glad there are men on this form who could go back to some really glory days in LOCAL FOOTBALL. Yes we are in the WC for the first time ever but our local football does not have the same following as in years gone by with no professionals ! maybe some of the reasons why we remember certain games may prove useful in finding out why in spite of pro leagues interest in local football is not growing

Dat was Francis Furlong! Right? Then Bede Archibal and Milton went to play for the Army.
Dam real talent come from Point we! Is like a who's who of T&T Football.

I never forget de lickin technical Institute give we on QRC ground . We lost 9-1 . Peter mitchell beat a player on our team with the greatest beat I have ever seen in football. He faced the player, then picked the ball up with his right foot and presented it to the player. The player came foward to win the ball and he prompty drew the ball backwards stretching the player on the ground. he could not move !! needñess to say the game stopped for a few seconds while everyone tried to figure out what just happened....goes down in my football annals as the greatest and has never been seen since.... My goal was lost in all de excitement !!!!

Oh shit i remember that game. I eh know that was he. that have to be one nasty thing to do to ah man. that tec team was very good though. Spanner, was on that team too ent.

Spanner didn't play on that team he had left the year before I think.....was a good thing though. We beat favourites 2-0 on their ground to play that game. I still remember the skills of fat man thorpe and mitchell

Sorry de name left out was QRC !

Pele jinked right and left but vcouldn't shake  " Teache " and a liltle pat on the back was well in order.......fans you see de names I calling here ?
