Dat was Francis Furlong! Right? Then Bede Archibal and Milton went to play for the Army.
Dam real talent come from Point we! Is like a who's who of T&T Football.

I never forget de lickin technical Institute give we on QRC ground . We lost 9-1 . Peter mitchell beat a player on our team with the greatest beat I have ever seen in football. He faced the player, then picked the ball up with his right foot and presented it to the player. The player came foward to win the ball and he prompty drew the ball backwards stretching the player on the ground. he could not move !! needñess to say the game stopped for a few seconds while everyone tried to figure out what just happened....goes down in my football annals as the greatest and has never been seen since.... My goal was lost in all de excitement !!!!

Oh shit i remember that game. I eh know that was he. that have to be one nasty thing to do to ah man. that tec team was very good though. Spanner, was on that team too ent.

Spanner didn't play on that team he had left the year before I think.....was a good thing though. We beat favourites 2-0 on their ground to play that game. I still remember the skills of fat man thorpe and mitchell

Football / Best games seen in t&T over the years
« on: February 01, 2006, 05:09:54 PM »
This is another brain teaser as some good games have been played involving local players. For me the real test of locals was the game between Defence force and Argentina juniors for the right to represent the americas. The argentinians were fresh from the world cup and players like baptista showed why they were in mix in the end.
it was a brilliant display of football and it remains the best level of football I have ever seen by a local team.
Of course I mean no disrespect to ASL which could also get a lot of mention for games against flamengo, Cuba, and the fort lauderdale strikers with cuban star teofilio Cubillas.
I wonder how many people remember that ASL beat Cuba,Arsenal and nautico which had a standout shortman who was the fix up man who thrilled the crowd with his short legs pumping every time a player went down.
those days there were no professionals but the locals in ASL under the brazilian william santa Rosa earned the respect of the T&T public.
It wasn't easy to get in to see a club play in those days and we weren't playing in any world cup. we brought Zico and falcao to T&T and the locals held their own.
I am sure others will have other games to mention though as the list is not short

FIRE BUN ALL ARGENTINIANS :flamethrower:...VIBES IT UP

Pointman you mean you eh want to see Riquelme, Messi, zanetti, Sorin etc in this WC ??
You must also not like Inter because for their last 2 games, which they won, they ended with 7 Argentinians on the field

I believe his name was Francis...was ah couple of brothers Dick of course played for Civic but Daddy man was also known as "Goat". We certainly did our part to supply T&T with ball men. Ah think almost de whole forward line in the "73 WC campaign was Civic men.

Coop bring back some memories dey with ppl climbing on trees and on top ah ppl's houses etc. Cars park up on both sides ah dem small Point roads around the Oval. DAT WAS AH SIGHT. It is my deepest wish that Trinidad and Tobago could generate that kind of football excitement again, especially now in the age of big money potential for players. Imagine the amt ah money dem old heads coulda make if day had played in these times?Ah ya yay. ;)

Yeah boy pointman you have some good files there and I agree that crowds were much bigger because of the entertainment value of local football in those days. you see what it is like now ? remember when ...my fete match team by the way .... North met south ??? It was blood and sand man !
The Premier leaugue was the last local league to capture that excitement when ASL led by the  not to exclude Falcons ....skills and drills man
Ah still going for Bert Neptune though since most of the time I couldn´t explain what he just did !!!

carlos edwards  ;D

Get Coops to tell you the level of guys like Spann,  Berta etc and you wont look at edwards twice. These guys didn't beat you two out of thre tiies they beat you everytime ! You had to get them to lay it off...of course in those days the crowd was what mattered  you diin't want to meet a crowd after the game if you came up against the defence force and Berta !
They claim his feet were set wrongside because of how many times he sent efenders the wrong way.
Sorry he died prematurely !!!!!!

I would make a lot of enemes in the west for leaving out jughead..the mnor league champ and i apologize for not mentioning Terry St louis. I remember Coach Vranes saying he just could not get across to jughead that the game is not about dribbling. Gamblers even bet on Jughead destroying any player in minor eagues across the country.
Savannah star " spanner " George would also make a top 10 in my book.

jai john how you eh mention Leroy DeLeon name as one of the best dribblers ever. Talk with players who played in the NASL and that name always comes up.

I never saw him play and from what i heard he was more of a playmeker than a dribbler.... Latapy for example has not been named by anyone as a dribbler but would be on everyone's lst as a playmaker.

This will always be one of my favourite topics to debate because of the very many tricksters we have had over the years. From inter col and bush leagues to national leagues our locals have been able to come up with some real slick moves, even getting certain tricks named after them !
Anyone remember the spanner ? well that name originated from Leroy spann, father of silvio. In his day once  he get to that ball before you ..you are a dead man...inside spanner, outside spanner !
Timothy haynes from Arima could do it in de air !
Leonsen was good , on a wet ground especially but among my favourites would be Evans wise who i once saw beat a man off de TV screen !!, colin rocke who must have retired a few US players before time and Bert Neptune.. i am sure the defence force supporters would remember Berta !!
Berta beat de whole a Jamaica one night in arima when they got a 4-0 licking. It was eh, eh , eh until de goal ...never will forget that night.
he was rippin from foundation to finish !
Berta once beat a player on UWI ground and sent de whole crowd on de left side ah de field de wrong way. i eh go lie even i geh beat and ah wasn't even playing ! sadly injury ended Berta's career early..never know where he might have reached.
i could name others like jughead, marcelle, twinkle toes brewster, Peter mitchell etc but sadly none from de present soca warriors ???? I hope we dont train out this talent from our footballers.

As de rastas used to say ..doh dig nutten !! All this is part of the plan to keep the opponents guessing ...better you remain quiet and people think you are foolish than to open you mouth and confirm it .

A practice game could devalue our purchasing power. Is only because people pressing the coach dat he agreeing to these games.....for our first WC game the world's eyes would be on us with some hope for a monumental upset..like Senegal... however some bad results in warm up games could hurt us . Thids is all about marketing in my view ...keep them guessing I say !!

I think i forgot to mention one Maurice alibey. Not a great goalscorer but he could really step. I remember one game for the strike aquad where he picked up the ball in the stadium and ran the lenght of the pitch ...even on to the athletics track.... no one could catch him !
E ooh A check de danger OOOO alibey in ah de area !

lets try to seperate "Jack the Hard worker for TnT football" and "Jack the Businessman" who does NOT run his companies properly. There is a very FINE line between the two as a SCREW up in one WILL affect the publics opinion of the other.
JACK, just come CLEAN with your business dealings with the TTFF, RIGHT!!!!

The other thing you forgot to mention is conscience .... I am sure hitler was a hard worker too !

how Jack get that job as FIFA vice-president? meh sister ask meh today and I really doh know de whole story.

serious question i think. Why would anyone think otherwise ? jack was vice president in CONCACAF and the surinamese, Kamperveen, died so jack moved up. The vice president in FIFA died and jack moved up . You might guess now why Blatter so tight with jack .
that story and the fact that jack is one of the hardest workers in any sport or business is true.

« on: January 28, 2006, 09:38:49 PM »
Maybe this was discussed before and if it was I am sorry to waste time but I wonder how many would agree on any given T&T striker over the years.
from those I have seen Steve david gets my vote although Yorke and Ron la Forest are not far behind.

Robinho has a sharper goalscoring touch and predatory instinct than Denilson, although I would say they are pretty much equal in dribbling skill. I looked at some of Robinho's games for Madrid and Brazil, he is coming into his own as a striker, he knows how to run at defenders, or to place himself for a defence-splitting pass. I thought he was all skill but with no end product too, but he's provin me wrong.
Brazil mostly used Denilson as ah substitute to kill off the clock with dribbling...ah remember five Turkey players couldn't get de ball off him in the last WC....or he is good for drawin fouls around de penalty area but other than that I wouldn't bet on Denilson scoring goals .
Quote

I guess we down to deciding how good robinho is by comparing him with Denilson ??
denilson was a left footed winger. Robinho is a right footed foward. I guess that´s close enough  ????

Mexico announced a short while ago that their world cup team would be undergoing  hypnosis .....to improve their game and mental capacity. I dont know if anyone has heard of this before of any other unusual method of preparation for sport at the highest level.
We wouldnt want to miss out on any advantage that the orthers may be using and may not opt for hypnosis but there are strange things happening out there of which we should be aware
Read it on tomorrow´s paper !!!!

Football / Re: What you think of Robinho?
« on: January 28, 2006, 06:38:05 PM »
hes faster than ronaldo and has better dribblin ability and he is still young, he will be better, but he is smaller in size and strength, dis is his only downfall

God point and maybe a lot of people who have already put the PELE mantle on him should give him some time to develop.
How many times we hear of another maradona or another Pele ?
My own take on him is that he is a good player and works hard but he is not special ! Messi is special and is much younger but even  I wont dub him the next maradona ...not yet  !
There will always be talk about Robinho and his size, a moot point as Bebeto, tigana, giresse, saviola, makelele, latapy and others have shown. if you are going to be the world's best you will find a way to overcome any disability you may have naturally.
Garrincha played with a deformity all his life yet remains in brazilian folklore as ' the little bird ' who when he took flight was unstoppable. he remains the most famous dribbler that brazil has ever produced.
Messi is just a few pounds heavier than Robinho and is even shorter and I dont hear people making excuses for his size.
the most impressive footballer from brazil for me is ronaldinho but the most dangerous is KAKA !! Noone takes him seriously but Pereira never picks a brazil team for a big game without his gifted midfielder.
Robinho is years away from the talent that KAKA now shows....when Brazil play well KAKA always seems to be greatly involved in the mix ...but few notice ..

South Melbourne not in the A league....they in the Victoria Premier League.

I find it strange too....not sure what the problem is.

Hopefully another chance comes up again.

anyone ever consider that the visa excuse is just a soft letdown ?? certain excuses are par for the course in sport and I am sure you can think of many .... he couldn´t learn the language, I took a cough medication which may have contained .....
What would he be the foreign representative on the club ?? dwight has a british passport already.
Come on we are really grabbing at anything now but people who put up money want to be sure they dont already have better  local talent.

I think I read all the replies to the question so far ..... I cant believe that not one person had anything good to say about dwarika !!!
The man was footballer of the year already, many of you paid good mpney to see him play. He showed he had it at one time ...is it so much to ask for another  chance to show that you still have it ??
what if some of you got fired from your job, not because you were not capable but because of indescretions..... and someone told you that´s it for the rest of your life...and you saw the chance of a lifetime to regain what you lost... nahhhh no chance for you sorry !!!!

If it is simply for de talk..we once ran off race in the stadium in Costa Rica before a game and Leonsen , nagga 19, as he was called then ...burned everybody, he was really fast and a natural sprinter. This eliminates some of the names mentioned .... 1985 i think it was ???

3330
dat not so hard . I think that was done on just about every ground in T&T already by lots of footballers ....even I did it once on St Georges ground against trinity college ..... Trinity with young Richard Chinapoo suffered a 4-0 licking that day ! cant say i tried to do it it just happened from a huge clearance ! that time the goal ran east/ west I dont know how it is now ...it was a big ground then !!
Us old guys didn´t see that as impossible !
