Superstar ! Quavas Kirk.

8/26/05  - U.S. Under-17 midfielder Quavas Kirk is always smiling. No, really, ALL the time. One of the top players on the team, Kirk was ready to lead the U-17s into the qualifying tournament last April until a broken foot sidelined him from making the trip to Costa Rica. Was he depressed? Yes. Sad? Yes. Disappointed? Yes. Frowning? No. Despite his own misfortune, Kirk knew he needed to stay positive in the hopes it would rub off on his teammates who were now saddled with the job of qualifying without his services. It worked and now, due to the help of his teammates, he is going to his first World Championship. Yep, you guessed it, he’s grinning from ear to ear.

Flex...could you say if this guy is related to Leyton Kirk ... a former St Georges College and Ebonites player who migrated to the us in the 70´s ?
Always admire those who choose to identify with their roots rather than go for the money .......Big up to fellas like Ato ...shame on de hurdler though...what´s his name again ???

« on: January 27, 2006, 04:39:44 PM »
I know this has happened at least twice, for i have seen it twice ,  but I suspect more than that. Can anyone name the two goalkeepers involved who have scored on each other from their own goalkicks during loacal games in t&t ? I will give a hint ...they were both former national goalkeepers .......

Football / Re: Fastest footballers
« on: January 27, 2006, 04:34:26 PM »
i find the normal charity football games e.g  ronaldinho11 vs shevchenko 11 to be boring just a whole bunch ah stars but no passion so not muh fun as passion is the fuel for greatness. what i would really like to see is a 100m race of the eight fastest footballers in the game
my 8 and yours may differ here is mine( not in any particular order)

Eto'o
Martins
Henry
Carlos
Robben
Owen
Messi
Cisse
who u think will win? who deserves the speed merchant crown?

I have a question ..... is there a ball somewhere in this race ? If not then it is not a race for footballers but for flat race athletes ! The winner cannot therefore claim to be the fastest footballers can he ?
Secondly...why 100 metres ?? How many footballers run 100 metres during a game ? I cant think of any player who has ever run full throttle for 100 metres in any game ever ! a player may have run the length of the pitch but would have had to check or measure or change direction during the run unless it was a dark night with the opposing team having trouble to locate the venue !
a more realistic test of the quickest footbballer would be over the distance you need to be quick ...maybe 10 or 20 yards or maybe 30 if you are stretching it.
a 100 metres event may see many defenders , who are often ignored, running away withe the title anyway because you dont see them running more than 30 yards ! anyone can really tell how quick Rio Ferdinanor Sol campbell is ? Or Perea for athletico madrid or canavarro or Roque junior ?
Its good for de ole talk and speculation but not realistic to rate the 100 metre as the fastest footballer...

TI you talking like gally deh boy !! make it to last game with a total local squad dat everybody wrote off ! where their reputation came from ??? latapy, yorke, Jameson, Charles, Morris, Morris, Lewis etc were home grown....
no foreigner could tell me that with a good coach fellas like Archibald, Cummings, Ron la forest, sammy, Jughead, berta, O brian , Seadust, Furlonge, marcelle, Peter mitchell etc couldn´t make it big on de pro scene !
T&T produces good talent, will always produce good talent, not only in football but other sports as well, but we need good coaches to nuture that talent.
I have seen 2 players in T&TThese two are Elijah belgrave and marvin james. leave them home and they become like Jughead, Clausel, timothy haynes, Lindley Prince and hardest. ( couldn´t leave him out  )
You know trinis however , Foreign is best !

Football / Re: Shaun Fuentes reports on T&T women team.
« on: January 24, 2006, 01:34:28 PM »
What's going on with our national Women Football teams is nothing new to me,all our teams at the various age levels are underprepared for big tournaments,we have been hearing these excuses and of these problems for a number of years but they all fall on deaf ears because no one cares about Women Football.

I think Jamaal should be doing better by now for the amount of years he holding that position, every course it have in T&T he on it what excuse does he have.

It's the same thing was going on with the men,now Lincoln step in and trying to put things in place, the same should be done with the women, programs have to be run for them in the areas of Techniques and Tactics, teams must be put together earlier to prepare for tournaments, why is just one Coach coaching all our women teams?i've always said something just does not sound right here.

If you all think the mens team have problems that's a joke to what's going on with our women, the treatment they get and people want to look at the results when they play and wonder why, very rear you hear about their complaints because these ladies want to represent T&T,it's the same thing the men went through.

All i want to say here is if the Women's program is to improve we have to be more serious,if the Mexican Coach can see it why can't we,at the moment our girls just play with their feet and not their heads.

Coops boy you know how tings does go with de TFA, TTFA, TTFF or Jack Warner ...all de same to me ! Team selection is about loyalty. keep your mouth shut, say yes when it is needed and you will go far. You kyah remember when Look Loy was de youth team coach ? On departure he announced that we were ready...when he returned, he mentioned that we were outcoached...de first man to admit his shortcomings ... He was later made Tec. director of football. Shabazz and de like,  just blame everyone and everything else but themselves but do they get replaced ...naaaahhhhhhh ....
remember camps described BSC as technically inept after our early Gold Cuip exit ? yet he was later placed in charge of our WC effort without any upgrading of his skills ??? games boy games !

we just lucky we in  de world cup now because for the first time the TTFF is being called to account on line !

Trindad Vs St Vincent 9th Jan 2005 ..    .just over one year ago ...

' while the ist half could have been called as being even the second half was not even close. Jemmot came to life in the second half and showed the ability that he has. His passing was visionary and his control was assured. He held the ball up well and created a lot of space for his wingman namely Marlon rojas. " " If he had a better first half, he would have been my man of the match. I saw the Jemmot that promised so much. His passing showed glimpses of Latas ! '

Football / Re: Who Believes Hardest should be Seen By Beenhakker?
« on: January 23, 2006, 06:06:06 PM »
People want to know why we cant get off this topic .... well I believe if it was a moot point it would have died already. The fact is TI is making a case for equal opportunity for everyone according to the stated policy of the coach.
he also feels that the coach is being denied that opportunity by some locals who are well placed to make recommendations.
If i can put in my 2 cents I would say that we are using high international standards to judge Hardest .
let me explain a bit .... T&T is a fledgling team in this World Cup. We are the team most likely to lose all it´s games ..not me but Ladbrooke and LLoyds say so and dey does put their money where dey mouth is ...

Weare not like Holland, Germany, Brazil, England etc... let it sink in fellas  ...WE ARE  NOT IN DAT CLASS !!!!
We however want to do like the giants and say ..if a player is not playing regular football he kyah make de team for de World CUP.... Is Jack, Hislop, Spann, Sancho, Theobald etc playing regular football ??? den drop dem nah !!
we have some pros who are only going to get a game if man injured and that includes Shaka Hislop !!
The next point is tallest playing 4th division football in England !! What is the difference in dat and the standard of W connection, jabloteh and some of de other decent clubs in T&T ?
We dont even have  11 l players playing top level regular football so by the hardest standards we should default !!
Come on guys we only have 1.5 million people the majority of whom do not play football ...our pool is small. My idea is if somebody see a good player in mayaro today and feel he better than what we have presently why deny him de chance to prove it !
Even big Argentina doing that and leaving de door open ..... how many pro games you tink Messi have ? you tink dey leaving he home even though dey have pros who shining before he born still doing well. look at sweden ....so many pros to choose from yet deh eh going world cup with out larson although he scrubbin bench for Barca !
Yet we hear Germany and Brasil say dat and we repeat ... look fellas if we go wid dah team that play against Bahrain we go really have to eat humble pie . After all de talk we give fellas from counties which didn´t make it you all want we to go through dat again ? Like all yuh forgettin de youth WC or wah...12 without reply in 3 games  and FIFA tech. committee say apart from Yorke and de goalkeeper we were inept !

Give everybody a chance de coach say ..leh he decide ...hardest represented de country already, Latas say give him a try, nakhid say give him a try ...dat good enough for me if he eh make I accept dat too
Let me tell all yuh ah story ..... Warner son get drop from la foucade national youth team. next ting la foucade get dropped. De new coach, La forest  promptly bring back warner son ...and went on tour wid de side .... we eh win ah game !!!! Doh play allyuh eh know it have a lot of dat in we football ..allyuh eh being fair to TI at all !
So if warner could send a message to the selectors ...why cant TI ??
keep up de pressure TI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3343
and KND better, he doh even know hardest in de super league, diff strokes for diff folks on here, look nah kicker, knd article is a setta shit, at least i talk about fairness and corneal bias, wat de hell knd talk about, ah personal attack on me, allyuh bias allyuh selves

I'm not biased either way........if you read what I wrote under your first thread about losing confidence in the coaching staff, you would see that. Yeah KND doesn't know as much about Jemmot as you do....naturally, but he did make a good point about the level of football that he (Jemmot ) is playing at the moment.......
You have to agree that from a coach's perspective, Jemmot is not exactly a shining star of potential anymore. Beenie has already criticized the level of our local league (the PFL). It is no secret that he has little faith and confidence in the ability of our locally-based players. For Hardest to get a try out, Beenie and staff would have to put their faith in the spoken word of Latas and others who believe in Hardest (based on what he was capable of years ago).....and that is a stretch.....unfortunate but true.

Kicker i like your level headdness but let me pose this question .... You know how Stern made it to the MLS ??
Well let me tell you ...his cousin , Ansyl Elcock who at the time was with Columbus Crew, recommended him. He told them he had a cousin who could real score goals ...and the rest was history.
latas is a coach in the making, nakhid is probably our most travelled footballer, you tink dese men are part of some plot to get a hong on de team ??

Football / Re: TriniInfinite You is the reason Hardest Not on the Squad
« on: January 23, 2006, 12:35:24 PM »
KND I think for the most part your advice was sound even if you did contradict yourself somewhat in some statements. My question to you ,and all the others who seem to agree with you , is whether other members of the team, or those added recently,  have been put under the same microscope as hardest ?
If we want to be fair we should be asking the very questions, and maybe some others, of people like Rougier, rahim etc. You might find that other players may fall short of the geat expectations required of hardest.
you remember how mch furore was made when Bertil added Theobald to the team in Tobago ....people were asking who ??? and he played ahead of others expected to !
Come on man even Nakhid was given a chance at 40 somethng ....where was he playing ???? and when ????
So to be fair to all everyone deserves a chance ...nest pas ?
If he not good enough to be selected so be it ...but can you really say he is not good enough for even that  ?

http://www.soccer365.com/EUROPEAN_NEWS/Scottish_News/page_111_113325.shtml

Densil Theobald believes he can use Falkirk as a stepping stone to one of Europe's most glamorous leagues.

The Trinidad and Tobago midfielder has joined the Bairns on an 18-month deal from Caledonia AIA after being granted a work permit on appeal. Theobald is set to play for his country in this summer's World Cup in Germany and knows a starring role on football's biggest stage could attract attention from bigger clubs.

But before any of Europe's elite come calling, he first aims to impress for Falkirk as they strive to stay in the SPL. Theobald said: "Falkirk is a stepping stone for me to move onto greater things, no disrespect to Falkirk. Falkirk is a small club and one day I would like to move on and be successful."

He added: "I have come over here to get into the best possible shape physically and mentally to go into the World Cup and to produce the results for Falkirk.

"This move is like a dream come true thanks to God. It keeps a smile on my face and makes me happy.

"I want to continue to work hard as I know the sky is the limit. I have both feet on the ground and I will continue to work hard and after the world Cup you never know, maybe a Manchester United, Real Madrid or Barcelona will come knocking - or I could be straight back to Trinidad."

Gosh I wonder how latas must be feeling now boy ? Imagine getting invited to lunch by a modesty breds and before yuh start eating yuh talking about lunch at hilton and how dis food Ok but ......
Big mouth trinis ... shoe size !  Reminds me of our local coaches .... they aways ready for the opposition before de tournament and could tell you why de lorse after ! I look foward to a promotion for Shabazz a la Look Loy ... didn´t he do a good job ?

I can't believe that players like Travis Mulrane&Leslie Fitzpatrick is not included in this squad.

Players like Whitley&Birchill are not good ballwinners, teams like GUATEMALA&COSTA RICA was just running through T&T midfield, and its going to get allot worse in the WC.

T&T needs players like Travis Mulrane&Leslie Fitzpatrick who are natural ballwinners.

This is world Cup not intercol !
how many times Travis get send off in he career...somebody have to tell him is FOOTBALL not footman !

Football / Re: Why the focus on English contracts ?
« on: January 21, 2006, 11:47:48 AM »
Where are our footballers expected to develop ?? In the Pro league at home where they are better than the opposition already ?
In de US college league ??? then on to The premiership ??
We should creep before we walk. yes there is money in the english league and they can understand us when we speak ....I think ... but the league is very unforgiving and our players are going backwards ......start off at a big team and fall back to a lower league because we were not ready !!!
There are leagues which can make the transition to the big money leagues much easier and more long lasting shouldn´t we focus on them  ???.
Let me get back to the language issue by saying david beckham spoke not a single word of spanish when he went to madrid but he was ready.
no sir language is not a problem in the world today. If you have ability clubs buy you and make you bi and tri lingual ..they make you thnaturally good !!!!
Couldn´t resist that... sorry dwight !

Football / Re: Why the focus on English contracts ?
« on: January 21, 2006, 11:19:30 AM »
messi  moved with his family from Argentina to Spain to live .while  living in Spain he  tried out for Barcelona  and they signed him the did not buy him from an club i think.  I do agree with yourpoint we should look at other leagues in Europe but remember there is  also  language barrier  may be thats why england is probably  the preferred league for our players   plus they get more money

just for the records friend.... Messi suffered with a growth disorder as a young boy and neither his club in argentina nor his parents could afford the treatments needed for him to grow. barcelona took a look at him and decided to take a chance and agreed to provide the treatment necessary ...the rest is history. qutie a few clubs buy young players and farm them out to the lesser leages wher they can get regular football and are not under pressure to produce the goods right away. in fact certain clubs are known as training grounds for Real madrid, chelsea, Arsenal etc.
Our approach is to send our unproven talent in an environment where yoiu are expected to perform right away. look at what happened to Forlan ...he wasn´t given much of a chance in manchester united but became the leading scorer in Spain with Villareal where he played regular football.
stern john will tell you if he goes just a few games withoutb delivering goals he is on the bench and that´s that !
Many promising young players are now looking at this situation and are opting for development and time to adapt to the many changes that European offers. we see Ronaldinho now but how many saw him developing with Paris St germain in France before his big move to barcelona ??
Look at Eto ..Real bought him and loaned him to mallorca where he could acclamatise with regular spanish football. AC Milan bought Colochini and loaned him out to Villreal for the same reason... wake up people we are not seeing the big picture .
Getting a contract is not the end product ...jusrt look at Dwarika, Nixon, Rahim. jack, sancho etc....
languuage  problems ?????
What is the native tongue of Nigeria ??? You could name any big league that Nigerians not playing In ??

3356
Football / Why the focus on English contracts ?
« on: January 21, 2006, 07:07:55 AM »
We still colonial yes !! all we could think about for our potential football stars is ah contract in England or scotland. Play a good game against England and yuh could get something with ah british club !
Where all de agents who does find people for ajax, Porto ( Where Latas and young Josimar Belgrave were ) Andelecht, Barcelona, Villareal, Monaco, America, Medillin, Santos  etc ??? Former FIFA President Joao havelange rated up the young Clint marcelle ..then nothing ! he went England after portugal and dat was dat !
the point that I am making here is that a lot of other countries may offer better training options before the step into the big leagues or may have good youth programmes which can allow for further development of our young stars, we are falling behind if we fail to realise that more and nmore clubs are buying stars before they pitch !! Look at messi ...barcelona bought him at 13 and kept him in the juniors for 4 years !! there are many other examples ...in fact our own kenwyn jones is another although he has to make the team right away rather than be allowed to develop.
anyone wonders why so many our players are now representing their clubs on the bench  ?? ...force ripe mentality gets us nowhere ...we dont want just to get there we want to demand a place there !

Shaun Fuentes just love it, he like Jack puppy, no wonder he dont do a good job writing because he all up in Jack business when he should just focus on doing his dam job.... like he fighting to be Jack right hand man....

Ah feel we a little hard on little Shawn.... he only doing his job ! I hope no one ever saw him as a serious journalist in his role as media officer for the TTFF . his role is to promote the TTFF no matter what ...not to objectively
report on matters affecting the team. he is not going to say anything which prejudices his piper .... or he wont get accredited to the world Cup !Ha ha ha !!!
i wonder how much longer Lisana has before jack calls in his shareholder´s rights at CCN ?? Lisana could be out of a job soon ...because he took 15 mins more for lunch ???

DON'T SUPPORT JACK WARNER AND THE TTFF......

Jack should be happy to get a full T&T support in Germany so our players will feel right at home.... but no, its all about Jack and Jack alone..... like de under 17 world cup in T&T (2001) wasn't enough or what..

« on: January 18, 2006, 05:41:37 PM »
February 22nd will see the first match up in the Champions league between Glasgow Rangers and Villareal. Led by argentinian Playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, Villareal has stormed into the final 16 of the competion. Riquelme has been able to unlock most defenses playing for Argentina, the world Champions Boca juniors and Villareal. last season the champions Barcelona were upset 3-0 by the team voted the best playing team for 2005 by the spanish press.
Now comes the test for non else than T&T´s own central defender Marvin Andrews ! Marvin, at the heart of the rangers defence, takes no prisoners and it would be very interesting to see how he shows against Riquelme, Diego forlan and the mexican guillermo franco who signed today for Villareal.
At a time when our players need high level exposure, this match up is ideal for Marvin to show his worth. No better place than the champions league to show what stuff you are made off. I hope Beenie is there to see it. I sure hope to ...on TV of course !

Fishs, you have a point dey, but as Ato pointed out earlier, to the some it may not matter how the man speaks in the mike, but the audience he will address will be the broke audience...the audience who cyah help that man really aspire to the top of his game....NOT the audience who will enable that man to leave behind a legend and possibly clear the way for others like himself to follow.  As a professional you want people to invest in you...and marketing yourself is a big part of that.

But on top of all that....it have many eloquent writers in the forum.  Some versed in both the wriiten word...standard english and colloquial vernacular....and we have interviewers, interviewed and those in the public eye, who would definitely get a hearing from the relevant authorities.  Let's tickle the relevant sporting bodies to introduce some measure of image development for the athletes.

I fully agree with a plan to improve not only the athletic ability but also the overall package. Look what was done for Brian Lara , chanderpaul, Yorke etc. there is life after the sport and Ato is good testimony to that.
What is therefore the role and funtion of a sport company ? I am sorry but i cannot accept de leave we just so attitude .....not if the goal is development  !
