Maybe the rest of the world is taking note of this and we more popular than we think ? wait til de steelband get a chance at some major event ..we might even convert some samba ......nahhhh  !!!!

Football / support from unlikely source
« on: January 17, 2006, 06:57:24 PM »
I just got home from a kickaboput with some british lads and one asked me for some trinidad football shirts. In fact he promised to buy several for his friends at ...get this ....the British Embassy !!Of course that did not ring true but he was serious. Then it dawned on me ..he was scottish !!
One thing you better know is that the scots and the english are the least of friends when it comes to football and moreso since England is in and Scotland is out. So in our group who do you think the scots will support if not England ? The fact is that quite a few warriors play their football in scotland and you can see that Latapy, Samuel, Andrews, Jack, scotland and in the past dwarika Rahim and Rougier may have a decent following in Scotland.
This is just a single occurence but I was wondering if any one of the forumites have had similar sentiments expressed. we may have some more supporters that we didn´t cater for to vibes it up !

Football / Re: South Americans and the British Leagues
« on: January 17, 2006, 11:46:05 AM »
One reason South americans might not readily choose the english premership is the fact that you go to England to play English  football. Whereas the other major leagues allow their imports to affect the game,  in England you either ship up to the umph or you are sent packing.
The englsh game has not changed much over the years and I believe the english have realised this hence the Foreign coach for the national team !
It was not easy to make this move but necessity dictated it.
The English fans now want more than excitement,  they want sucess ! Few will deny that the end to end stuff keeps the fans enthralled and the goals are spectacular but England have not won anything from youth to senior since 1966 when the World Cup was held  England and they benefitted from two major  hometown decisions.
After the success of Liverpool especially in the 70's and 80's you wonder why english football is so resistant to change.
Teams like Asenal and watford etc. with their successes with the long ball style gave credence to the statement that all that was needed in englisgh football were two linesmen and air traffic control !
South americans caress rather than boot the ball upfield. Just look at the way Riquelme passes the ball. Our own latapy failed to make the grade  in is heyday yet every coach who came up against him and the strike squad were impressed. Crystal Palace played at our natinal stadium and had the trio White, Bright and Ian wright. They all were asking about the little number 10. According to them he was doing things on the field that they could not do . " He turns both sides with ease and is comfortable with the ball " yet  The Englsh just looked at Latapy when he went on trials and sent him back ...too small
The famous french midfield of Tigana, Giiress, Gengini  and Platini would not have survived in english football and the english club which refsed the young Maradona must be still kicking themselves today.
IN spite of all  all the efforts that  manchester united made to sign Ronaldinho he refused to go because he loves his football and his tricks which if he tried nitially and failed in England would have sent him packing as another failure. " Dont mucjk about especially in the final third "  South aAericans dont cut it in England  you see,  according to the english..maybe that's why Liverpoll now have lovely englisn names as Morientes, Garcia, rafa benites etc. Liverpool was the only club willing to break the english mold now and in the past maybe tht's why they are Englands most successful football club.

Football / Re: interviewing sportmen and women in T&T
« on: January 17, 2006, 10:32:08 AM »
I hope ken butcher reading these comments. A sports company must look at the holistic development of the individual, as well as the sport,  to be really efective. If not it is just another TTFF or TTFA I guess ?

Football / Re: interviewing sportmen and women in T&T
« on: January 17, 2006, 05:59:48 AM »
maybe what is needed here is a national  sports programme or devlopment geared towards our up and coming sportsmen and women. we have a sport development company now and some promising world class athletes so now might be the time since it is painfully obviopus the the inability to express oneself oin this age will be a setback.
We also have some very articulate sportmen, some of whom are part of this forum, who might be incrporated in this scheme... that was the point I was making referring to people like Ato....

Football / interviewing sportmen and women in T&T
« on: January 16, 2006, 07:17:18 PM »
I dont think I need to say much on how our sportsmen and women express themseves in interviews. Give any US sportman or woman a microphone and you have to take it away from them. We are full of you know what ah mean when we are really being asked to say what we mean. Yuh ketch meh, yuh understand, seen ? ... really would leave all but the true trini in the dark.
Granted everyone has their own slang or hometown lingo I often wonder if some advantage isn't lost because we cant seem to express ourselves properlly.
I really would like to get Ato's comment on how we can deal with this as an emerging sporting nation where our sportmen and women are being more recognized worldwide,as  he is one of the finest exponents on the art of intelligent, interesting conversation. I rather see it as advice on handling fame intelligently !
We only have to go back to some interviews on local radio with our warriors to see how unconvincing we are at instilling confidence in others.

Football / Special award for Liburd
« on: January 13, 2006, 05:58:48 PM »
I strongly believe that lisana liburd be made the first recipient of the Annual expose award on this forum. If there is concensus then we could pressure the dailies to ensure that he is considered when awards are being made.
You all must know that the sporting journalists, for want of a better word, are being bought and  sold these days so Liburd's work must be considered in that light as well.
We all knew the man was doing some underhand things but couldn't produce the goods. Libert really researched this one and it is a far cry from Tino Singh's effort when jack made him look like a fool on TV. ( he didn't have all the facts ) Of course Jack later gave him a book deal .... anybody ever see dat book, to write his story and he changed Camps.... pun intended .
Jack had to attack de man and in this case he was the one with de wrong info.
Power to Liburd and may more journalists in sport have the testicular fortitude to be true to their profession

Football / world Cup player watch
« on: January 13, 2006, 10:09:49 AM »
No point in saying more about  Rooney, Messi, Ronaldinho, ka ka, Riquelme and the other big name players.
Are there any players out there who may be on the fringe of something great that folks are not talking about ?
I can think of the Portuguese right back Miguel who scored a stunning goal in the kings Cup Wednesday for Valencia against Villareal. So outstanding was he in this game that the " Che " fans were shouting MI guel  ! Mi guel ! He has been outstanding all season and is partly responsible for the miserly returns teams have gotten against Valencia this season. he attacks as much as he defends and is a threat to any defence as he can go past players with his speed and skill and can finsh as he showed last game.

Paraguay is often seen as just making up numbers but they reached the final in the Olympics, the only football tournament Brazil has never won. They also eliminated brazil in the south american qualifiers to get there. After losing to the blue and whites in the olympics Paraguay  beat argentina in the final qualifying game which is no mean feat.Their taliisman is Roque Santa Cruz. He was impessive in the qualifiers and he comes up big on big games which is why Bayern munch has extended his contract. Playing in Germany he is sure to keep the other teams in the group honest.
The outsider in the world cup is T&T. largely made up of old and unproven players but with one enigmatic player who could surprise many. I remember seeing him play for trendsetter hawks n de savannah when he was 14 and just about everyone who has seen him play over the years can see this boy is special.
Watless too bad but few could deny that if he plays to his true potential this boy as what it takes to be among de hardest in Germany. Put me down on the lst of supporters, I might even be a bigger fan than trininfinite !!!!!

Football / what makes Jack tick ?
« on: January 12, 2006, 05:45:57 PM »
Well apart from $$$$$ it is seeing his name on the sport pages. can anyone tell if one day has passed in the last 3 months that jack's face hasn't been plastered on the newspapers.
de man eh realise that he have a good face for radio not TV ! and certainly not newspapers !
If no one writes him up he calls a press conferenvce to announce a press conference...and like sheep they all go running . he even makes up stories just to see the headlines ...game against brasil...mother of all games ....game off !!~

so if jack tired of mediocrity why he eh get rid of CAMPS, HAROLD TAYLOR, LOOK LOY, SHABAZZ ETC. he keeps a bunch of failures simply because he knows that they know they have no right there and are only there because of him..doh like mediocrity ...yeah right !!!
Good morning jack , right jack , Ok jack ... I have to wait until Mr warner returns to give you the answer ( translation ..he didn't tell me what to say on that )

Football / Re: Bertille deserves all praise
« on: January 12, 2006, 05:21:39 PM »
Oh come on fellas an jack taking he share including for all dem years of failures ???? So why deny Bertil ah small piece of the pie ? If you only want to reward success then Nakid, Eve  etc should be left out too and dat eh fair !
I still feel that Bertil was brought back to get Dwight and he succeeded. The TTFF left him in the position too long but do you really think Beenie could have done it without Dwight and russel ??
Do you all remember that Jack called Dwight his biggest mistake in football ? how he used to have him in he house etc. And how russel was another big mistake after de man was playing for trinidad since he was 12.
You tink it easy to forget dat ?
I will say it only once ..... only bertil could have gotten dwight back and only dwight could make Russel change his mind and give it a shot. these guys didn't jump on the wagon when it was safe, like some are now, they came aboad a sinking ship !
just for the record russel and dwight represented T&T at under 14 and you know who was the coach ....... BSC !!! better believe it. de man is still respected for his values and maybe some of our leaders could well take note.
I am sure every one of us can remember a teacher who played a great part in our lives...made us what we are today ! WOULD YOU DENY THEM ANYTHING THAT WAS BEING OFFERED THEM . I say de man is deserving of at least a  piece of the pie.

Football / Biggest upset in world Cup history involved England
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:22:08 AM »
The Engliand football team is still credited with suffering the bggest upset in World Cup history. After refusing to participate in the earliest Wcrld Cup competitions because " the tournament was beneath them " England entered in the first one staged after the war in 1950 and fell to the lowly USA. The minnows USA made up largely of immigrants scored through a haitian immigrant named grosjean and won by a margin of 1-0.
What follows next will certainly remain in the annals of football as the english press at home published a score of England 10 Usa 1. It was more plausible than the 1-0 to the USA which came through on the wire. There must ave been a mistake ! So the press inserted the missing 1 before the zero and credited England with the victory. That sort of thing is impossible today, where live coverage is possble,  and so remains a part of world Cup history that England wants to put behind them.
If Trinidad and tobago produces a victory or even a draw against England that might rival the greatest upset. Is it possible ?..it has happened before ....

Football / Warner's promises over the years
« on: January 09, 2006, 11:16:43 AM »
I was wondering if in getting answers to this question if between us all we could remember some of these over the years. Maybe we could even publish a book and give to warner when he retires ??
Diego Maradona to play in Trinidad
Benefits to T&T for the Youth world Cup
Benefits to T&T for building more stadia
Benefits to give all de contracts to Warner Bros.
Promise that T&T would qualify for the 2002 World Cup
Tickets to supporters who went to Bahrain
Scanners for tickets ...what scanners ???
T&T will qualfy for de world Cup ...we cant leave out that one to be fair
Promise to resign

Promise to resign after returning from resignation

Football / Re: Tony Warner is a Soca Warrior
« on: January 09, 2006, 08:04:00 AM »
My goodness tony warner is now de next best thing after slice bread ! Thirty one year old (31) ....needs repeating..... 31 year old Warner who is just now going to be added to Fulham´s list has already replaced Shaka Hislop as our world Cup goalkeeper ??
I hear he is learning the national anthem....once he completes that job he must play !!! Meantime we are looking in to his passport !!!
He has indicated his interest in  playing  for trinidad before yet he does not yet have a passport ??? Banana Republic you see ...If he was thinking of representing the USA he would not be waiting to apply for his passport or visa !!!!
I wonder if anyone can testify to his outstanding achievements which make him a shoe in on the team ? I guess Shaka must be quaking in his boots as this great find is now on the scene !
Anyone remember Cro cro calypso on common entrance ..... basdeo, dhanraj , balraj , Khemraj get thru cause he fadder have big garage , etc.
name boy name !!!
If yuh think name eh important check warner speech when he attempted to discredit Liburd ..... teacher name warner etc.
Dont forget de original  rapso......... If a man want to set false standards for you to follow to he whey yuh say ??..... Blow way !

Football / What happening with Lincoln plan ?
« on: January 08, 2006, 08:03:37 PM »
Can anyone say what is to happen next with the plan to invite some under 21´s and 23´s for screening ? My guess is that everyone is back to where they were and Jack is not here so we have to wait for step 2 ??
Plenty talk about looking for new talent , younger players etc. I wouldn´t give up my day job if I were a home based under 23 !

Football / who is de biggest hit man today ?
« on: January 07, 2006, 06:40:25 PM »
Well aside from george Bush and our own jack Warner I think Samuel Eto gets my vote . Just saw him score his only chance against Espanol and he does it almost every time. He now is equal in the league with games and goals. De man is on fire right now.
i guess knowing that he will have to watch de world Cup must be an incentive. While de big boys like Ronaldo, Drogba,Henry   etc. are having one foot in the future, Eto is flying in with both feet. he missed out on being top scorer in La Liga last season but i cant see them stopping him this year.

Football / How to stop Rooney ?
« on: January 06, 2006, 06:57:10 PM »
since i know is everybody reading dis forum now i want to ask for suggpstions to the above question .
My options are ...
call him shreck to he face !
hit him hard when you tackle ..good role for Dog
then tell him he look like Shreck again dis time when he on de ground
Barring getting him sent off or that he cuss de referee himself ...there is just little else you can do to stop him !

Football / What is Camps role ?
« on: January 06, 2006, 12:40:56 PM »
Can anyone say what is the role of Oliver Camps ? I know he is the President of the TTFF but what is he responsible for ? Does he earn a salary ? what does he do ? Are taxpayers money going to subsidise this man ? In 1989 when asked to explain the printing of extra tickets he responded with the usual ..when Mr warner returns he can answer that ....
Years later the man  still cannot give any  statement which does not come from the mouth of Warner. This is an organisation which is handling $US millions and wanting some more taxpayers money....... seems like we are being asked to cast our pearls .....

I was just wondering if we accept everything we are told by some Jack rather than check things out ourselves. As far as I know no one has yet gotten a FIFA response on the matter that didn´t originate from Jack. I am also aware that FIFA protects its own and Jack holds a very high position but the body is a world body and i hope some of our better connected members are publicizing the activities of this family of ¨winners ´..I mean warners !
