Been chiming on this since last year. It's time to let the stallion out of the stable.

Next year he has Penn Relays, CAC Seniors, World Relay Champs (Bahamas), Commonwealth Games to show his mettle.

Caution: He needs to improve his running posture by running taller to control how his leg rotates outward when he runs, striking with the ball of his feet instead of his heel when he strides, and experimenting by going out a little faster in the first 200m to better balance his race, instead of leaving it so late every time. While that strategy works against juniors that will no longer work when he moves up and mixes it up with the big boys.

His competition from Carifta, World Youth and World Juniors have moved on and are benefitting from increased strength and "big boy" experience - Javon Francis (45.19/44.0 split), Arman Hall (44.8x) and Stephen Newbold (44.2 split at Penn Relays).

A dose of private sector sponsorship FROM NOW (not later) would be nice if someone can get it into their heads to help athletes on their way UP.

What he needs is a chance to show what training under kirani's coach's  direction has done for him .... He has consistently faster times than Jehue Gordon all season ...so go figure ..

62
Now that Lalonde's experiment in the 200m is out of the way (nice warm up), let's regroup for the 4x400m final, and focus on using that 200m speed to get out in the first 100m of his leg and put us in optimal medal position.

Per his (Lalonde's) post-heat interview, Lendore may or may not run based on some soreness, and talk is that Jehue may replace him.

Top medal chances not looking so hot if that's the case.

Lalonde ent look up to it even in the semi of the 4X4 best to let Juhue run the last leg and hope for the best

what about Cedenio ? whose flat times are better than jehue's ? we cant put this promising youngster through another disappointment and not give him a shot ...he made the team and we should give him a chance if a team member cant do it ... to bring Jehue from outside the 4x4 group is too deflating and could really discourage a young athlete.

63
You will hear this "we could do it from here" a lot now that Jehue has done it. It is unlikely. Jehue is managed by Emanuel Hudson of HSI, he now works with Michael Johnson's facility in Dallas as well. His coach has a PhD.

To use him as an example of all this homegrown talent that will emerge is not accurate. I would love for it to be so, but under which coaches? With what system? With what backing?

Can it be done? Yes, but the system has to improve markedly.
Good talk Ato, I overlooked all that outside help that Jehue has been getting of recent.
Thanks for correcting me on that point.  :beermug:

whoa horsie ....... Jehue gordon had had the same coach since he was 12 ...his coach is Ian " doc " Hypolite ( head of St anns facility and a very underated coach )   jehue has visited the michael johnson facility but trains in trinidad ...st mary's ground and the national stadium under coaches hypolite and Ed skinner. he runs for memphis pioneers and has never changed clubs since 12 ...the people he credited with his success are like his close family ...mothers aunties, uncles  etc. Michael johnson  came to T&T only recently and sure there are things you can learn from his approach but jehue gordon will be the first to tell you ...it is the management team of doc and skinner that has brought him thus far .......he is also, like Ato, world junior and senior champion > he has one more year in UWI to graduate and is not managed by emmanuel anybody.
This is a home grown talent ...it can be done ..it will be done again !!
Yes Jehue is home grown talent but notice how Jehue was a bit stagnated since the 2009 World Champs up until Olympics last year and this year he suddenly started improving again after getting some outside help?

Nothing was wrong with Jehue getting a little outside help especially as he had stagnated in his progression for a number of years.

Lets wish him all the best for many more major titles in the future and that he continues his current improvement. This couldn’t happen to a nicer and more deserving athlete!  :beermug:

No sar ...few may know he has struggled with his heel for a long time and finally got it operated on ...what you saw was an athlete recovering slowly from an operation on a very delicate body part for a runner ... He has now won the junior and senior titles all in the time between the 2009 world champs and now ...stagnated you say ? doh let de wrong people take credit ... and yes he is a very deserving young man ..

What in the world is wrong with Richard Thompson?  Seems like he has taken several steps back.  And I am disappointed with the progress of Jehue Gordon. Since Ato Boldon, we have not had a male athlete who showed tremendous promise and continued to improve while performing at a high level. Is it training? Is it attitude? Now all eyes on Keshorn!  Look at the Jamaican stable. Just asking questions and dying to support a good Trini contingent.

should have taken a scholarship to the US just look at deon lendore progress

For every Lendore I could name at least 50 for whom the change did no good . jamaica is keeping their best at home ...Jehue has been with his coach since childhood ....he is a very dedicated athlete ...he is a model athlete and is an inspiration to many. he has run 48 point every year for the last 3 or 4 ....just watch his progress til the world games ... he has made the finals at every major games he is still young ....lets see how he progresses ... This is " matter " season as the jamaicans call it ..Jehue is in his final year at university it is amazing that he could study and compete by flying in and out every so often ..It aint easy ...and if you factor in the unforgiving system of the UWI ...it is pass or fail folks ... remember he is a student athlete with a schedule in both academics and track.

...and so the story ends ... it can be done ..it was done ...it will be done again ! jehue gordon world champion from T&T.

Yeah, big interview from Jehue!!
Like the young champ said, it's all about believing in yourself and your coach and localising the effort as much as you can to show folks that we can do it from home as well!
The Jamaicans have done it and we can do it too but our NAAA and Ministry of Sports and Government need to get serious. Engaging more of our talented youths in sports can deter many of our talented youths from a life of crime.

I am glad you posted this so everyone can hear him say who was responsible for his success.... it can be done ..it was done ...it can be done again. believe it folks ...the world will come to see just what the coaches of the carifta record holder in both the 110 metre and 400 metres hurdles , the world junior and now senior champion is doing ( he has the carifta record in an event he has given up !! ) it explains his strong 100 metres finish today ...he runs with emmanuel callender in training over the short sprints .
How many have gone abroad with much promise and disappointed ? Doc is as qualified in athletics coaching ans is well respected in world ath;etics circles ...yeah some might say ...one shot wonder ....but look at the facts ..

Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Mexico Game (20-Jul-2013).
« on: July 18, 2013, 11:43:14 AM »
I will always support a T&T team in any sport ....who else I go support ..I's ah trini ! However unrealistic expectations are not part of my bag ...I would be quite happy for a good performance from this team seeing where they were not too long ago.
Beating Mexico at this tournament, though possible, is not very  being realistic in my view as we have been performing really badly in the recent past ..if we were to be honest. Rome was not built in a day and it also takes years to build a good team. Mr Hart said he was not a miracle worker but that is proving to be untrue as good things are happening after such a long wait.
We can take some good things from this tournament already but it is the rebuilding that we will make or break. Too early yet to judge Mr Hart but I am optimistic thus far...just my write.

looking for someone to analyse how Brazil was able to nullify Spain ...have not been able to say ... so if some of the pundits can oblige i would be grateful

Jai, this is a good article by Gab Marcotti, that breaks down Spain's and Brasil's efforts in the final.

http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/espnfcunited/id/7511?cc=5739

Thanks ..but I find this article as many of the others to be a statement of what we saw rather than an analysis of what caused it. I am sure most coaches are looking for that cause .... that Spain could be beaten was probably a non starter a few months ago, yet it happened right before our eyes. What I have been able to descifer is that fact that Brazil disrupted the flow of the tiki taka just as they did to Argentina in the Copa America some years ago when Argentina was favoured to win ...the under rated midfield destroyers of Brazil may well spark an interest in that role in world football.

Brazil has produced a dtring of nudgers who do just enough to throw you off your game yet not enough to get a booking. This for me seems to have affected the way Spain would have liked to play.  I agree that tiredness and weather must also have played a part ...but you get the feeling that teams are working out the Spanish game ..and germany, Italy and Spain are concentrating more on their midfield destroyers ...That's my view

71
well i wish to add Aubert " Nobby " Phillip from Tunapuna to the list a player  who got his leg broken representing the red white and black who vowed never to play for his country again after broken promises made to him on his hospital bed.

Brazil played well yesterday. But would they have beaten Spain, had Spain not had to play 120 minutes against another world class side less than 3 days before in 30 degree weather? It clearly prevented the Spaniards from playing their usual pressing game and from overrunning the Brazilians as they have done with everyone else in recent years.

Personally, I think the Brazil hype has gone overboard. The result had just as much to do with Spain's poor performance as it did with Brazil's good performance.

(PS - I dont support any national team other than TnT, so I am not a disgruntled Spain fan lol)

Ryan, I see where you coming from, but that is the way the ball rolls. Location and temperature is part of the game. All them South Americans, African, etc does  go Euro and play. When the Euros come South American. Oh gosh, it too hot. We jet lagg. The food eh good. Too much traffic. The fans making too much noise. The stadium this! the sadium that! I don't think Brazil going overboard. It is just a celebration for the moment. They win the celebrate. But if anybody on this site think Spain dead have to be real dotish. This tournament is for teams to acclimatize to the environment. So next year when they get they arse buss, there can't make no excuse.

good points Deeks...Italy and Spain have an advantage over the other European teams, they got to play games and learn the conditions in Brazil.

Surely there must be a reason no European team has won a tournament in South America ?

Ok so we had a sabbatical but we are back where we belong ...the world's biggest small side .

One of a few teams, of any size , that can boast of matching the dynamic duo of Spain.

It seems like  football success is now determined by the size of the wallet but little teams like Villarreal keep giving hope to the hopeless ...... Yes we can .... like Sea biscuit ...the working class horse that beat the mighty War Admiral ..the money entry.

So i am ready to back the underdog ...go submarine !! los submarinos amarillos

Villarreal back in La liga

El Submarino Amarillo president has expressed his delight after seeing his club return to Spain's top tier, bouncing back only a year after suffering relegation
Fernando Roig says he is optmistic for Villarreal's future after they secured promotion back to La Liga at the first attempt.

Jonathan Pereira's strike was enough to earn a 1-0 win over rivals Almeria on the final day of the season to ensure a runners-up spot behind champions Elche.

Roig could not hide his delight after the 'Yellow Submarine' made sure of a return to Spain's top flight after a year in the footballing wilderness.

"This will be good for our future," the club head was quoted by AS.

"We've restructured a lot of things. It hasn't been easy, but we're in the Primera Division again.

"The fans have been tremendous," he added

The Villarreal president also confirmed that Marcelino Garcia will remain as coach at El Madrigal into next season.

"It had been planned in advance and Marcelino will continue," he added, giving backing to the current trainer.

Marcos Senna, who was part of Villarreal side that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2006, also spoke of his genuine happiness at being part of the promotion-winning side.

"This is huge," the 36-year-old former Spain international enthused.

"There’s so much joy. We've achieved our target."

Keshorn was posing at the stadium on saturday ....so he got his excuse for not taking part in the mandatory games over the weekend ... dais all it is folks ..... nothing more ..

82
Dont forget Ayodele Taffe ...Texam A&M next year to join Lendore .... hope it works out ..improving every race this season ...the 19 year old has certainly run clear of all locals ....

83
just like de main issue being Gordon having an inappropriate meeting with Rowley rather than the subject matter of dangerous allegations via e mail , we are now discussing de coach right ?. Of course the fact that we are beginning a new season just like all  others is now cause for hope right ?

Just throw them a ball and they will follow it ...no matter where it goes ...just like our new found brand of football ...forget about taking control of the ball or establishing any kind of operational structure ...just play ball !

...so when I read things like ..de coach alresdy wukking and no contract yet in place I ask myself ..did I just wake up ? or is this the same nightmare I thought I awoke from  only recently ?

Well the football cemetery of broken dreams can add some more to the list of those who have died before the promises could be revealed .... the more we change ..rearrange ..everything remains the same ...

84
The other will include only the salaries of Hart and Beenhakker and would allegedly be picked up by three unnamed sponsors—two local and one international organisation.
nah man, nah man, doh do we dat... who is dese sponsors?  :cursing:

Transparency please

EDIT: I hoping is because the deals have not been closed and inked yet

Why they have to say who the sponsors are?  Suppose that was a condition of the sponsorship?
My sentiments exactly. As long as they getting paid and is not via illegal means who cares?? When men wasn't getting paid nobody was asking who paying them now everybody want a commission of inquiry into all things TTFA.

you think their previous dealings might have something to do with it ? Naaaaaah ! Just take de money from where ever it comes ... so we go have to watch de news more carefully now in de event dat a drug or diesel bust could affec we football !

18 year old Ayodele Taffe is another one to watch ...his QRC coach says he is going to Texas A&M this year...he has been improving since switching to the Charlie Joseph team Abilene wildcats .....the club of Deon Lendore, the farinha brothers and several other young stars...
he is running faster as the season progresses ..

is ayodele attending QRC now or just working out with their coach?

Well he did represent QRC in Penn this year so I would say yes . According to the coach he needed to work on the academics to qualify . I remember picking him  him out some years ago ...when he beat John Mark constantine ...the first time I had seen JMC lose a 100 metre race ... Poor fella ...I dont think he has recovered since then ! He is another with great potential but is suspected of having choke on big ocassions syndrome.

Mikael won the 110 hurdles as well and for the first time he left 1 hurdle standing ...he usually knocks down all 10 ! He really looked good winning the 100 ...easy and comfortable ...he is really a powerful sprinter ...if only he could grow another 2 inches ! Amazing how he could run such fast times in the 110 hitting every hurdle with his heel ! If he could just go over his time would be even better .
