Football / Gilberto: Nani could get a kicking
« on: February 18, 2008, 11:07:22 AM »
Arsenal star Gilberto Silva has warned Manchester United winger Nani he could get a kicking if he does not cut out his showboating.

Nani's showboating antics during United's 4-0 win over Arsenal in their FA Cup clash on Saturday infuriated the Arsenal squad who felt the Portuguese international was showing them a lack of respect.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger both condemned Nani for overstepping the mark.

The summer signing from Sporting Lisbon came in for some rough treatment following his showboating and Gilberto has warned he could come in for the same if he continues his ball-juggling skills.

"It was important for us we didn't lose control and lose another man," said Gilberto. "I just spoke to him and told him it wasn't necessary for him to do that. I told him he could get a bad kick doing that.

"In these type of situations I do my best to calm down my team-mates because we need all of them on the pitch to fight for the team."

Meanwhile, Gilberto is confident Arsenal can bounce back from their humiliating defeat to Arsenal and go on to achieve success in the Premier League and Champions League.

"Of course we can bounce back from this," insisted Gilberto. "If you look at United, they had a bad result against Manchester City, a big disappointment to them, and they came back very strong in this game against us.

"It's the same for us. We will come back even stronger, starting in the Champions League against Milan on Wednesday, because we don't want to let the opportunities pass us by this season. We must bounce back if we want to achieve something. This group is ambitious to win trophies this season.

"The FA Cup is very important and we're disappointed to be knocked out, but we need to look forward to the game against Milan.

"It is also important that we focus on our position in the league, where we are five points clear, a situation very much in our favour. We must learn from our mistakes and not let a performance like this happen again."

Possebon given squad number

Sir Alex Ferguson has handed United's number 34 shirt to Brazilian youngster Rodrigo Possebon.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who completed a transfer from Sport Club Internacional last month, is expected to keep learning his trade in United's Reserves, but will now be eligible for senior duty if required.

The primarily right-footed youngster, who turns 19 next week, is a tall, athletic holding midfielder. He takes over the squad number vacated by Ryan Shawcross following his transfer to Stoke City.

Possebon has joined Anderson as the second Brazilian in United's squad but, while his compatriot has been a sensation in his first season at Old Trafford, the Reds' wealth of midfield talent will make it difficult for Possebon to make a senior impression this season.

Football / Tevez deal just needs approval from Premier League now......

Premier League - Tevez saga nearly settled
Eurosport - Thu, 02 Aug 21:48:00 2007
West Ham are expected to announce on Friday that they have agreed a deal to release Carlos Tevez from his contract and registration.

The move will allow the Argentina striker to pursue a move to Manchester United.
The agreement, which still needs to be formally ratified by the Premier League and Football Association, will see the Hammers paid between £1million and £3million in compensation.
The deal will also mean the settlement of the £30million lawsuit brought against West Ham by Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian.
Talks ended with an agreement between both sides and the league and the FA should sign off the deal - Premier League lawyers have been kept up-to-date with the progress of discussions.
Joorabchian should then be able to try to sew up an agreement with United to allow the striker to join up before the start of the season.
In the unlikely event of either side having a last-minute change of heart, then the only other avenue would be a lengthy High Court battle and there has been an acknowledgement that that would be in no party's interests.
Manchester United have already indicated a desire to take Tevez on the same sort of loan package that saw Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano move to Liverpool last season.
That deal took some weeks before it was signed off by the Premier League but with that transfer having already been picked over by the lawyers, a similar deal for Tevez should go through much quicker.
The agreement with West Ham brings an end to a long-running and painful saga for the club that began when former chairman Terry Brown signed Tevez and Mascherano under banned third-party agreements last summer.
The club were fined £5.5million as a result by a disciplinary commission in April and that led to an unsuccessful legal challenge by Sheffield United, who claimed they should have been docked points.
