We have seen this player because he played in the U20s in Jamaica. But at the moment Mike McComie made a decision that if you don’t turn up for training for the Olympic team then we don’t select you and it’s the same situation with Mr Peltier and Guerra. The story has two sides to it. But yes we know these players. Then we have other young players with a future like Jason Marcano. The only club giving us problem is Jabloteh because the other clubs are cooperating. And we hope this can be solved for the future. We are not trying to ruing careers or clubs but it has to work both sides. We have no favourites and we want to give everyone a fair chance. We took a team of all locals to the Gold Cup and when they are good we try to invite them and use them

One hand does wash the other...plain and simple...

Liverpool cruise past Sunderland

by Simon Rushworth
August 25, 2007
SUNDERLAND, England (AFP) - Liverpool maintained their impressive start to the season as Momo Sissoko and Andriy Voronin ensured a comfortable 2-0 victory at newly-promoted Sunderland on Saturday.

An energetic home team could never match their illustrious rivals for quality and had Liverpool striker Fernando Torres not missed four clear chances this could have been another embarrassing lesson in top flight management for a disappointed Roy Keane.

Liverpool arrived at the Stadium of Light without influential captain Steven Gerrard as manager Rafael Benitez chose to rest his England international midfielder ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Toulouse.

Voronin, signed from Bundesliga club Bayern Leverkusen during the close-season, almost took full advantage of his place alongside Torres when he burst clear of the Sunderland defence within 20 seconds.

Keane must have feared the worst after the previous weekend's 3-0 defeat at Wigan. However, Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon demonstrated just why he commanded a British record nine million pounds fee earlier this month with a point-blank save to deny Voronin the perfect start.

Liverpool were in control against last season's Championship title winners but the 2007 Champions League finalists suffered an unexpected blow in the 16th minute when Sami Hyypia was forced from the field with a suspected broken nose, following an innocuous clash with Sunderlands Daryl Murphy.

Daniel Agger slotted into central defence alongside Jamie Carragher but the switch briefly unsettled Benitez's men. Sunderland forced a first corner and Michael Chopra beat the offside trap only for Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina to reach the loose ball first.

In the 24th minute Chopra slid the ball into the path of Murphy but the Irishman saw his weak right foot shot cleared by the retreating Agger. In protecting Gerrards broken toe, Benitez had denied Liverpool their driving force and, in his absence, Sunderland were beginning to dominate a congested midfield.

However, if form is temporary then class is permanent and eight minutes before the break the visitors' quality shone through. Jermaine Pennant headed a fine Xabi Alonso pass into the path of Voronin and the busy forward touched the ball towards Sissoko, 22 yards from goal.

The Mali international spotted Gordon moving to his right and struck a fierce shot to the goalkeeper's left to open his seasons account in style.

Liverpool should have gone into half-time with a two-goal advantage but former Atletico Madrid forward Torres spurned a golden opportunity on the stroke of half-time.

Voronin played in Pennant on the right edge of the Sunderland area and crossed first time. Torres met the ball with a diving header but Gordon denied the Spaniard at the second attempt.

Gordon left Hearts with a huge reputation and within six minutes of the restart two outstanding saves showed why.

On each occasion Gordon repelled the lively Torres as Liverpool's 23-year-old forward was unable to add the finishing touch to a series of intelligent runs.

Riise replaced the injured Carragher 15 minutes from time and Benitez will be hoping his influential England centre half, like Gerrard, is fit to face Toulouse.

Voronin's smartly-taken goal after a flowing move, in the 87th minute, emphasised Liverpool's dominance on a day when the margin of victory could have been far greater.

Injuries apart, this was a successful exercise in squad rotation and a well-earned three points for a club with genuine title credentials.

T&T gets 1st round bye in 2010 qualifiers.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

Trinidad and Tobago was among 13 nations that will receive a first-round bye in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
FIFA, in a statement on Friday said it based the decision on its rankings from May. The U.S. also has a bye with. Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Guatemala, Canada, Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines also received first-round byes.
Twenty-two nations will be slotted into home-and-home pairings during the World Cup qualifying draw on Nov. 25 in Durban, South Africa. The 11 winners and St. Vincent will drawn against the top 12 seeds in the second round, which likely will be in June. The 12 second-round winners advance to the semifinals, which will retain the same format from 2006 qualifying, with three groups of four.
The top two teams in each semifinal group advance to the six-nation regional finals. The top three teams in the finals qualify for the 32-nation field, and the No. 4 team meets the fifth-place team from South American in a home-and-home playoff for another berth.
T&T also had a first round bye for the 2006 qualifiers and subsequently went on to book its first spot in a World Cup by defeating Bahrain in a playoff. T&T then performed creditably, as the smallest nation at the Finals, holding Sweden 0-0 before losing to England and Paraguay.
T&T head coach Wim Rijsbergen is currently in South Korea with the National Under 17 team at the FIFA Under 17 World Championship and will return home next week to resume preparations with the Senior Team.

Travelling man Cole agrees one-year Sunderland deal

AFP
August 24, 2007
SUNDERLAND, England (AFP) - Veteran striker Andy Cole signed a one-year deal with Sunderland on Friday, making the promoted north-east team his eighth professional club.

The 35-year-old, who will link-up with former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane at the Stadium of Light, left Portsmouth after last season after manager Harry Redknapp agreed to cancel the final two years of his contract.

He spent just one season with Pompey following a 500,000 pound move from Manchester City last summer, scoring four goals in 22 appearances.

The former England international went on loan to Birmingham in the latter stages of the season, after complaining he was not getting enough games.

Cole has also played for Bristol City, Newcastle, Manchester City, Fulham and Blackburn and is the second highest scorer in the history of the Premier Leage having netted 188 times.

Only Alan Shearer has scored more.

"I'm very excited to be here. It's another challenge and hopefully I can use my experience to help the young players at the club," said Cole.

Sunderland manager Keane said: "I met with Andy on Monday in Manchester and he has agreed to come here for a season. His experience on the field will be vital."

Cole, who was in the crowd at Wigan last weekend as the Black Cats lost 3-0 at the JJB Stadium, has been tracked by Keane for the last couple of weeks, but there was never any real chance of him joining the club in time to play a part in Saturday's home clash with Liverpool.

Brazilian World Cup player Denilson signs with FC Dallas

August 23, 2007

DALLAS (AP) -- Brazilian midfielder Denilson, who played on the 2002 World Cup championship team, signed with FC Dallas.

Terms of the deal were not released Thursday.

Denilson was one of the top players in the late 1990s and his rights were once sold for about $36 million, the largest transfer fee in history at the time. He is the fourth MLS player to have won a World Cup.

FC Dallas said Denilson, whose full name is Denilson de Oliveira, would be able to play once he receives his work visa.

The 5-foot-8 Denilson said he was eager to begin playing for FC Dallas.

"I hope that through my work I will be able to contribute to this team and have success in this league," he said in a statement.

FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow said the team was pleased to be able to land Denilson.

"We've worked hard to build a team with players that have exceptional ability and also have the right attitude off the field. Adding a player like Denilson will improve us further and give us a boost as we go into the final stretch of the season." he said.

Denilson led the Brazilian team to the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup title and a second-place finish the next year in the FIFA World Cup. Brazil won the World Cup in 2002.

He played for Sao Paulo from 1994-1998 before joining Real Betis, a Spanish club. He played there for seven years before moving on to Bordeaux. He played for Al Nasr, a Saudi Arabian club, in 2006-2007.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium, captain Errol Blaize led by example, notching seven while Mc Chris Mourance netted five and Hakeem Hazel slotted home three.

Also in the goalfest, Dwight Green grabbed two while there was one goal apiece for Dillon Alexander, Sydney Jules, Nigel Sanderson, Mikey Edwards, Juniro Mason and Malcolm Joseph. The win was the largest by a team in the tournament so far after two days.

Also yesterday, there were wins for El Salvador, Antigua & Barbuda and the Netherland Antilles.

Black Starlets keen to shine
Ghana meet Trinidad and Tobago at the Cheonan Sports Complex on Monday evening in the second Group F fixture at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea 2007. The Africans rate as highly experienced in this competition, as they are making their eighth finals appearance at this level and won the trophy in 1991 and 1995. The Trinidadians are contesting the U-17 finals for the second time. On their debut in 2001 on home soil, the youthful Soca Warriors fell to defeat in all three of their matches.

The game
Trinidad and Tobago v Ghana, Cheonan, Monday, 20 August, 20:00 (local)

The stakes
Both teams have plenty to play for in their opening match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea 2007. Ghana, rated as favourites to win the match, will be looking for maximum points to relieve some of the pressure ahead of challenging contests with Germany and Columbia. Underdogs Trinidad have little to lose and will be hoping to spring a surprise against Ghana as they pursue their declared target of a place in the Round of 16. The football family can look forward to an intriguing and closely-fought encounter.

The players
Both Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago are untroubled by injury and will field full-strength line-ups.

The past
Monday's match is the first-ever meeting between the sides, as they have never previously met in either competitive or friendly action. Ghana have scored at least one goal in each of their last 14 FIFA U-17 World Cup matches. Trinidad and Tobago have lost all six of their games at FIFA junior tournaments to date, falling to three defeats apiece at both the FIFA U-20 World Cup 1991 in Portugal and the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2001 on home soil.

The words
"We've not yet seen a lot of Ghana, but they always field strong teams at this level. You just have to look back into the record books, they've often featured at the U-17 World Cup and they've won the title twice." Anton Corneal, Trinidad and Tobago coach.

"It'll be a difficult match. Everyone wants to make a good start and get through to the next round. But we've prepared well. Victory in our first match would be a real boost for my lads." Sellas Tetteh, Ghana coach.

Trinidad happy to be underdogs

Sunday 19 August 2007
When the draw was made for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea 2007 most pundits were in agreement that Colombia - second in South American qualifying - Ghana - second in African qualifying - and Germany - fifth in the equivalent European tournament - would be the contenders to advance to the last 16 from Group F. Trinidad and Tobago, meanwhile, were seen as very much the outsiders.

The young Soca Warriors had a hard time of it in CONCACAF qualifying and only squeezed through after a narrow victory over Jamaica. Nevertheless, the islanders are hoping to spring a surprise or two at this their second appearance at a FIFA U-17 World Cup and make the so-called experts eat their words. "Underdog" is a tag which suits them down to the ground and one that could help them take a few teams unawares.

"There is no pressure on us whatsoever. The other sides don't know much about us," coach Anton Corneal told FIFA.com. "I'm pretty sure we will give a good account of ourselves against all three opponents. Our preparations have gone well in any case." The Caribbean team did their last-minute fine-tuning at a training camp in the Netherlands, where they were put through their paces. "Our preparations went very well. We were able to see how we match up against international opponents and we played well against Peru and Honduras," said an upbeat Corneal. "We gained some invaluable international experience, something we lacked in the past."

This experience should stand Trinidad in good stead, and provided that they stay organised they have every reason to be confident about Monday evening's opening match against Ghana at the Cheonan Sports Complex. With the Africans starting off as favourites, Corneal is banking on team spirit and effort to see T&T through. "What sets us apart from the rest is our never-say-die attitude. We can also play with real discipline and we've gained in experience."

Team spirit the key
Going into the tournament the junior Soca Warriors certainly present a very united front. Many of the players know each other from club football and there are no fewer than eight members of the San Juan Jabloteh team in the 21-strong squad. "This is obviously an advantage as the lads know each other so well and are used to playing together," smiled Corneal.

With their tournament debut approaching fast, anticipation is building among the players, as captain Leston Paul explains. "All youth players dream of taking part in a World Cup, and it's great that we are getting to live the dream," said the midfielder, who plies his trade back home with Defence Force.

Like his coach, Paul is in no way worried about the fact that he and his team-mates are seen as outsiders in Group F. "We're concentrating on our own game rather than our opponents, and we definitely want to make it through to the next round." Not even the thought of walking out in front of a packed stadium in Cheonan on Monday night can throw the skipper off his stride. "I'm trying to stay as cool as possible and concentrate on the match," he added.

The inspiration for Trinidad and Tobago's younger generation is obviously comes from the older breed of Soca Warriors, who created a stir at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ by drawing with Sweden and only slipping to a narrow and unlucky defeat to England. "They played really well at the World Cup but didn't quite get the results they'd hoped for," continued Paul. "Let's hope that we can do better in that respect." Their first opportunity to do so is just a matter of hours away.

Stars are born
Japan supporters have good reason to be satisfied with their 3-1 win in Group D, but their Haitan counterparts were also given serveral moments to cheer at the Gwangyang Soccer Only Field. The majority of these flashes emanated from the boots of Charles Herold Junior, whose mesmeric dribbling provided Hiroshi Jofuku's charges with a constant headache.

It was his namesake, Joseph Guemsly Junior, who put Haiti on level terms in the 71st minute, but goals from Hiroki Kawano and Yoichiro Kakitani steered Japan, whose clever passing and link-up play caught the eye, to victory.

T&T U-15s, Aruba at Hasely Crawford

Saturday, August 18th 2007

THE journey to qualify another Trinidad and Tobago team for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, begins today with the kick-off of the 2007 Caribbean Football Union Under-15 Youth Cup which runs from August 18-30.

Hosts T&T will be involved in the only game today when they take on Aruba from 5 p.m. at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain. But tomorrow, the competition goes into full swing with eight matches throughout the country.

Nineteen Caribbean nations will take part in the first round, with seven advancing to the quarter-final stage, where they will join guest team El Salvador.

For T&T, coach Reynold Carrington will be seeking to make a winning debut to his stint as national coach, and has already expressed confidence that his charges will emerge out of their group which consists of Aruba, the United States Virgin Islands and the Bahamas.

The first Caribbean Youth Cup began in 2005, with T&T claiming fourth place after a 3-0 loss to Jamaica in the battle for third place. Canada were crowned champions of the 2005 Youth Cup after whipping Guatemala by a 4-0 margin. The following year, the competition was extended to under-16 level, thus preparing the regional team for the CONCACAF Under-17 qualifying tournament.

Mexico won the tournament, controversially defeating Haiti, the most talented team in the competition, by a 3-0 margin. T&T finished third, beating Jamaica 2-0. Three Caribbean teams from that tournament automatically qualified for the CONCACAF Under-17 play-off, from which both T&T and Haiti progressed to the 2007 FIFA Under-17 World Cup which also begins today in South Korea.

Ghana took third place in the African U-17 Championship and are already a major force in this age range: the Black Starlets have so far qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup seven times, taking the title in 1991 and 1995. After an eight-year gap, Germany's U-17 side have managed to qualify for the global showcase again and are eager to do well, whereas outsiders Trinidad and Tobago are looking to cause a few upsets, just like their senior team did at the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany.

How they qualified
Ghana: Third in the 2007 African U-17 Championship in Togo

Colombia: Second in the 2007 South American U-17 Championship in Ecuador
Trinidad and Tobago: Third in the CONCACAF Qualifying Group B in Jamaica

The location
The first four games in Group F take place in Cheonan. The 'City of Heavenly Peace', as Cheonan is also known, is situated some 85 kilometres south of Seoul in the North-East of Chungcheongnam-do province. Heavenly peace will be temporarily disturbed, however, when Ghana, Germany, Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago battle it out for places in the last sixteen of the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The matches will take place in the Cheonan Sports Complex, which was built for South Korea's National Athletics Championships in 2001 and has a capacity of 26,000 seats.

The crunch match: Colombia - Ghana, Ulsan, August 26, 19:00
The most intriguing match in Group F is between Colombia and Ghana on the third and last day of group fixtures. The match between the South American runners-up and Africa's third best team should be a hard-fought battle for a place in the last 16, but also a game of the highest quality.

Colombia have already shown their class in the qualifying round when they were both sound in defence and dangerous on the attack. Eduardo Lara's team is more than capable of emulating the country's achievement in Finland 2003, when the Cafeteros came fourth in what was their most recent appearance in a FIFA U-17 World Cup. Meanwhile, Ghana are looking for a third world title in this age range and will start the competition with confidence high after an impressive showing in the African Championship.

The opening gambit
Heiko Herrlich, Germany's coach says: "I'm really looking forward to the competition. For many players the World Cup is the pinnacle of their football career. I expect our players to have the kind of will to win that can turn tight games in our favour."

Ghana, who pocketed gold in 1991 and 1995, will take on Trinidad on Monday seeking to end a run of three successive draws in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which, although extending their unbeaten run in the competition to nine games, culminated in their first phase exit from Peru 2005. The Black Starlets were pipped to the regional title by their West African rivals Nigeria, who will take encouragement from the fact that they have emerged triumphant on the two occasions the trophy has been presented on Asian soil, at China 1985 and Japan 1993.
