Barbados to face Guatemala in another Digicel International Match pairing the some of the best of the Caribbean against that of Central America
Posted on March 14, 2007

March 14th 2007 – Bridgetown, Barbados: Following on from Digicel’s announced international match in Jamaica this week, the number one telecommunications giant in the Caribbean today announced that it is to deliver another match when Barbados will play host to Central American side Guatemala in another game arranged in the series of friendly international football matches Digicel will hold across the Caribbean further supporting the development of football in the region.

The Digicel International Match is taking place in association with the Barbados Football Association and will be between Guatemala and Barbados on March 25th with an 8pm kick off in the National Stadium, Waterford, St Michael.

This is the second match announced in the series of Digicel International Matches which will take place at the end of March, during the FIFA “window”, and again goes to demonstrate how Digicel are bringing more football and indeed investing more in Caribbean Sport than any other company at any other stage previously.

Commenting on the initiative, Group Sponsorship Manager Kieran Foley said, “After seeing how well the Digicel Caribbean Cup and indeed the Copa de Naciones Digicel went both for us as a company, our partners in the CFU and UNCAF, the international teams from the Caribbean and Central America and most importantly the football passionate fans in both of these regions, we thought it would be a magnificent way to further develop football by bringing teams from both territories together.

The Digicel International Matches seemed like the obvious answer to an overwhelming demand to increase the development Digicel has progressed with football, not only in the Caribbean but now also on a larger scale as we progress into Central America”.

Digicel customers in Barbados will have a further chance to again enjoy the progression of their national side after they competed so well in their hosting of one of the qualifying group stages of the Digicel Caribbean Cup. It will also represent an opportunity for Guatemala to test their skills against one of the Caribbean’s more historically established sides and allows for their further progression before competing in the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup which the central American side qualified for courtesy of the Copa de Naciones Digicel.

Looking forward to the game, BFA President Ronald Jones commented, “We are very excited to have Guatemala as strong opposition for our national team which gives us a further chance to see how much we have progressed since our progression to the finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup. The opportunity to again come out and see our local international players might ensure a good following of our fans turns out to cheer on the home players against what is a very reputable international teams. We are also grateful to Digicel for putting some funds in place for this game and hope to play in many more Digicel International Matches in the future”.

President Jones's counterpart in Guatemala, FEDEFUT Oscar Arroyo, feels honoured to be invited by Digicel into the concept of Digicel International Matches, "We are very pleased that Digicel is inviting the National Team of Guatemala to compete in the first round of games, we are ready to give our best in our encounter with Barbados."

The International Match will be played at 8pm to facilitate a much anticipated league encounter in the Digicel sponsored National Premier Football league. The fact that this game will ensure there is a double header for football fans to enjoy goes further to Digicel’s progression of investing more into sport in the Caribbean to bring more football to our customers.

The 2006/7 Digicel Caribbean Cup was the largest ever football tournament in the Caribbean with 24 nations scoring 232 goals in 69 matches culminating in Haiti’s defeat of hosts Trinidad in the final.

The Copa de Naciones Digicel 2007, staged in Digicel’s newest territory El Salvador, ended in high drama with Costa Rica beating Panama in a penalty shoot-out in the final although perhaps the most compelling game was the eventual winners’ semi-final defeat of the hosts El Salvador in front of a capacity 42,000 crowd.

Football / Reggae Boyz set to face Columbia, USA, Switzerland in March
« on: February 28, 2007, 12:17:03 PM »

The Reggae Boyz have been invited to a four-team tournament in the United States of America (USA) and besides the hosts, they could play a match against World Cup finalists Switzerland on March 27, pending negotiations.

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has been having discussions for nearly a month and should confirm their participation soon.

"We have been invited to a tournament in Miami and we have not confirmed as yet. We have been talking for about three weeks," Buchell Gibson, general secretary of the JFF, told The Gleaner yesterday.

"It will be a four-team tournament involving Colombia, Switzerland, Jamaica and another team," added Gibson.

Busy schedule

With Jamaica's poor run in 2006 which saw them missing out on the 2007 Gold Cup and with World Cup qualifiers slated for early 2008, the JFF has decided on a busy schedule of international games.

Currently, a Reggae Boyz team comprosing senior and mainly Olympic (Under-23) players, is in Hong Kong and qualified for the final of the Lunar New Year Cup, set for tomorrow.

The Under-17s will host a five-team Confederation of North, Central America and the Carib-bean Associations of Football (CONCACAF) final round Group B qualifying tournament from which the top three teams go directly to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in South Korea in August.

In 2006, Jamaica's Reggae Boyz played nine matches - defeating St. Lucia, Haiti and Canada, while losing four times to Ghana, England, Australia and St. Vincent and The Grenadines. They drew twice against the USA and Peru.

Football / Brazil's 'samba' style suits Fraser
« on: February 01, 2007, 07:15:14 AM »
While most Reggae Boyz crave to land professional jobs in Europe, national midfielder Sean Fraser has taken a liking to South America, fitting in comfortably as only the second Jamaican contracted to play in football hotbed Brazil.

Fraser, currently on loan from his United States team Miami FC, played roughly 80 minutes in his first competitive game for Boavista Sport Club in the Rio de Janeiro's Campeonato Carioca state league last Wednesday. Yet long before he took the field for that drawn game, the 23-year-old former two-time World Youth Championship player for Jamaica (U-17 and 20) already knew he had found his niche.

"It's been the best time of my football life," he said the day after the game.

Fraser scored three goals in three practice games since arriving in Rio around mid-December. He has seen the famous carnival city from a helicopter, made promotional videos, appeared on television and in newspapers, danced samba and is picking up the country's dominant Portu-guese language.

Fan appreciation

Best of all, he has been embraced by the city's football-mad people. His number seven club jersey has sold in bunches and the fans' appreciation has overwhelmed him. Prior to last Wednesday's game, Fraser said final minute attention in the dressing room delayed his entrance to the field. When he finally hit the pitch, what happened next shook him to the core.

"They (the fans) started to chant 'Fraser, Fraser', then 'Bob Marley', then 'Jamaica, Jamaica'," he said of the roughly 11,000 home crowd. "I broke down in tears ... I just started to cry as I was warming up. I didn't expect that reception ... I couldn't believe it."

The Brazilians were not so sure what they were receiving either when Fraser first came to the club after a successful first season with Miami FC, where he lined up alongside former Brazilian World Cup stars Romario and Zinho and scored four goals while playing primarily in an attacking midfield role. While Fraser had played in the two World Youth Championships and represented Jamaica in its failed bid last year to retain the Digicel Caribbean Cup, he was still an unknown in a country that has produced some of the planet's greatest players. In addition, Allan 'Skill' Cole had been the only Jamaican to play professionally in Brazil, a country so abundant in football talent it is often said that it could field a second or third-string national team and still beat the best in the world. But Fraser has not disappointed so far.

"Sean is a good player," said Boavista coach Gaucho last week. "He is fitting in."

Fraser would not mind settling in Brazil for a while. He is thoroughly impressed with the talent he has seen, as well as the training methods and a whole culture that is geared to promote football. He also relishes the chance to play against top clubs like Vasco Da Gama, Flamengo and Botofogo.

Strong competition

"(The competition) is strong," he explained. "It is very hard to compete. It's not easy. The defenders are very aggressive (but) the development process here is very good. The training is very good."

The support system has been fine as well. Teammates often flock to Fraser's room to bond, although, he said, none speak fluent English. He is yet to fully grasp Portuguese.

"The necessities I know," he explained. "When they (Brazilians) talk I understand some things."

However, the youthfulness of Boavista's squad, where most of the players are well below 30, helps makes the transition easier, Fraser said. Training up to six days a week, sometimes three times a day, raises his intensity, level of play and understanding of his teammates. The international 'language' that is football is a real bonus as well.

"From the goalkeeper to the striker is very, very good (as a player), very talented," he said.

All that makes the former Harbour View and Portmore United player favour spending some more time in the South American country.

"If they are interested, I would be too," he said. "I would love to stay a year or two. I can only get better in this environment."

Football / Bora impressed with Boyz...calls for patience
« on: November 17, 2006, 07:18:29 AM »
Patience the key, says Bora
published: Friday | November 17, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

REGGAE BOYZ technical director designate, Velibor 'Bora' Miluti-novic, was not only impressed with the team's attitude, but believes the members showed a lot of potential in a 1-1 come-from-behind draw against Peru at the National Stadium, on Wednesday night.

However, Milutinovic believes that patience will be key as the team embarks upon its bid for a place in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa - commonly referred to as the 'Back to Africa' campaign.

"They showed a lot of potential and more importantly very good attitude, but the most important thing is that we be patient." Milutinovic said.

"I was also impressed with their speed and I think that they are technically good, however, we must be patient and there is a lot of work to be done," said Milutinovic, who also had his technical crew on hand recording the game.

With the 2010 World Cup now less than four years away, the debate rages on as to whether the Reggae Boyz will be among 32 finalists that will line up when the tournament kicks off on African soil for the first time. Since their historic qualification for the 1998 tournament, Jamaica have been in the football wilderness.

Unimpressive results

The team has not only missed out on the past two tournaments, but a spate of unimpressive results - the most memorable being a 6-0 pounding by World Cup quarter-finalists, England, back in June, suggests that it might miss out on a third.

However, after watching a team that was still not at its best with first-string players Claude Davis, Ricardo Gardner, Damion Stewart, Jason Euell, Damani Ralph, and striker Marlon King missing, Milutinovic believes that there is plenty of time to develop a solid squad.

"We have time to prepare a good team, looking at the quality right now even without all the player's here. We must believe that the team will do well," he said.

"When you have time you need to build confidence, put in the work and everything should be OK," the naturalised Mexican added.

The 62-year-old Yugoslavia-born Milutinovic boasts an impressive resume. He is the only technical director to have coached five different teams at the World Cup - Mexico (1986), Costa Rica (1990), the United States (1994), Nigeria (1998), and China (2002) and is also the first coach to take four different teams beyond the first round. Milutinovic's contract will span the next four years and has been estimated at about US$1 million per year.

Former Chinese national team manager Bora Mulitinovic confirmed Tuesday that he agreed to coach Jamaica who is hoping to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals.

Milutinovic, who resigned after the 2002 World Cup, told Xinhua that he has reached agreement with the Jamaican soccer association as he was given a contract with no expiration date.

His major goal, Milutinovic said, would be a berth in next World Cup, the world soccer gala to be held in South Africa.

Milutinovic, nicknamed Milu by millions of Chinese fans, led China to their only World Cup finals in 2002 tournament, co-hosted by Japan and South Korea.

After resignation in the same year, he had a stint with Honduras in 2004.

Football / Boyz to play 'big' friendlies at The Office, says JFF boss
« on: October 17, 2006, 06:07:50 AM »

PAUL A REID, Observer writer
Tuesday, October 17, 2006

MONTEGO BAY - The Jamaica national football team should be kept busy through the end of the year as a number of internationals have been lined up, says president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Crenston Boxhill.

Boxhill told the Observer on Sunday that two international friendlies have been lined up for December - one which will be against a European opponent here in Jamaica.
The president did not go into details about the games in December, but said the visiting team would be a "quality opposition". It is understood that the European team took part in the recent FIFA World Cup Finals and is ranked in the top 35 on the latest FIFA rankings. Jamaica are scheduled to play South America's Peru on November 15 at the National Stadium.

When asked whether the JFF would lobby either CONCACAF or CONMEBOL (the South American confederation), for a place in their tournaments as an invited team, Boxhill said the idea was a good one, but one that would have to be discussed with the executive.

Jamaica were knocked out of the first round of the Caribbean Football Union's Digicel Caribbean Cup tournament, thus killing off hopes for the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament next year.

Boxhill explained that the first priority of the JFF was to secure the services of an internationally-known technical director and said the federation's hope was to secure the signature of the Serbian Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic.

Asked about plan B should they fail to secure the services of the Serbian-born Milutinovic, Boxhill said the federation had completed a shortlist of coaches they wanted to work with, but presently the focus is on securing the services of Milutinovic.

Both Boxhill and Milutinovic were at Jarrett Park on Sunday to watch the National Premier League fixture between Portmore United and host Wadadah.

Football / Jamaica vs Canada
« on: October 09, 2006, 06:18:11 AM »
Canada on Paper looks like an OK-ish side. They brought back some of their big guns from England, Spain, and the netherlands.
Now, the interesting thing in my mind here is that even though Jamaica included a number of overseas-based players for this Canada game...the squad was still missing at least 6 of the regulars, players who werent called back for this game. I have to be pleased with the results, despite the fact that we played at home, and something tells me that Canada thought they were going to easily beat Jamaica based on what transpired in Jamaica's previous games.

one week you lose to minnows St. Vincent...the next week you are beating a squad laden with players from the EPL, La Liga and the Dutch Eredivisie

Colombian 'baller' freed, gets back his money
published: Saturday | September 2, 2006

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Colombian national, 28-year-old Rueben Hernandez, who was charged with unlawful possession of property after the police found US$89,000 and J$4.7 million (approximately J$10 million in total) at his Montego Bay, St. James, apartment in March, was acquitted of the charge in the Montego Bay RM court on Thursday.

The money was returned.

"I feel bad about the whole thing," said Hernandez's attorney, George Thomas. "It is as if the police are picking on my client because the money he was charged for was previously given back to him by the court after he was similarly charged on a previous occasion."

Deportation order

With the unlawful possession charge now out of the way, the Colombian, who came to Jamaica on a football contract with Wadadah Football Club in 2003, is now challenging a deportation order, which was made against him after he was arrested on the unlawful possession of property charge.

After the deportation order was made in the Montego Bay RM Court, Hernandez appealed the order before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court subsequently ruled that the deportation order be stayed, pending the outcome of the case.

Hernandez first came in contact with the law in 2005 when the police raided his Leaders Avenue home and found US$355,000. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of property but was subsequently acquitted in court after the crown failed to prove that he had acquired the money through illegal means.

Second arrest

When Hernandez was arrested for a second time in March, Wadadah F.C. was dragged into the spotlight as concerns were raised about the legitimacy of the work permit the club had secured for the Colombian. In addition, the Financial Investigation Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force launched an investigation into the operations of the club, intimating possible ties with persons involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

During the much-publicised probe, the homes of coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams, manager Gene Grey, and other club officials were searched by the police. Concerns were also raised about why Hernandez, who was signed to the club as a goalkeeper, had not played any competitive games.

In explaining Hernandez's non-appearance in games, club officials claimed that while preparing for the 2003 Western Super League, the Colombian had sustained a serious back injury and had been out of action since.

Shelton and Larsson unstoppable

NATIONAL striker Luton Shelton is making the most of his partnership with Swedish legend Henrik Larrson at Swedish club Helsinborg.

The 20-year-old who was slowed up by an injury has struck five goals in his last four games in tandem with Larsson.

ÒHe is a good player and a good person,Ó said Shelton, adding that the player who represented Barcelona last season, talks to him a lot.

ÒThe whole thing is a good experience and I can and am learning a lot from him. Basically I look up to him as a role model,Ó added the former Harbour View player, who has represented Jamaica at every level and scored freely.

According to Shelton the understanding between himself and Larrson was almost immediate.

"Even when we just started the understanding between us was very good. I think we understand each other really well on the field. We started three games together and we really clicked. I picked up a slight injury after that and came off the bench for the next two games and scored," said Shelton, who only recently secured a permanent move to Helsinborg.

After regaining full fitness, Shelton regained his starting place last Sunday and scored the winner for his club. On Saturday he started once more alongside Larsson and scored twice to give his team a 3-2 win. Larrson scored the other goal.

While everything is going fine at club level it is a return to international football that Shelton craves.

"I am really looking forward to the game against Canada on September 4, if I am called," said the player who is eager to get the better of his new-found friend, Canadian Atiba Hutchinson of FC Copenhagen, a player he journeyed to Denmark to watch in a Champions League playoff against Ajax recently

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) -Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien each scored a goal Sunday to help Ghana beat South Korea 3-1 in a World Cup warmup.

Gyan scored in the 35th minute at Easter Road stadium after a South Korean defender handled the ball. But Lee Eul-yong tied it in the 49th, catching Ghana goalkeeper Sammy Adjei off-guard with a hard shot from about 30 yards.

Muntari scored the second goal for the Black Stars three minutes later, heading in a perfect cross from Essien, who then added the third in the 80th.

Matthew Amoah also had a chance, but his shot in the 60th minute went wide.

Ghana, which will be making its World Cup debut in Germany, is in Group E with Italy, the United States and the Czech Republic.

South Korea, a semifinalist in 2002 at home, faces Togo, France and Switzerland in Group G.

Football / Jamaica vs England date nears
« on: December 27, 2005, 09:56:30 AM »
JAMAICA'S DATE for one of their biggest ever friendly internationals has been set, according to a report Sunday on British television station Skysports.

The date reported is June 3, just six days before the 2006 World Cup kicks off in Germany. But according to president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Crenston Boxhill, discussions are still ongoing.

"We have been in discussion for the last two weeks and discussions have been going well. A number of dates and venues have come up including that date but we have had no confirmation.

"It is just a matter of time before we come to some agreement," Boxhill explained.

England, the 1966 World Cup winners, became interested in playing Jamaica when the Caribbean's second-ranked team, Trinidad and Tobago were drawn in the same group as England for the World Cup.

England's interest and the subsequent discussions have exicted local football fans and the national team's coaching staff alike.

"It is a game that we are really looking forward to," said technical director Wendell Downswell.

"The fact that we are playing 'the mother country' and in England too will make it an even bigger event," said the man who took over from Carl Brown and Sebastiao Lazaroni following Jamaica's exit from the World Cup qualifiers.

Jamaica's last friendly international against Australia at in October is one that was thought to have done some damage to the country's marketability and Downswell is of the opinion that this game will help to revive Jamaica's image as a football country.

EXCELLENT TEST

"It will be an excellent test for us. The whole marketability of our team will be enhanced if we perform well and we are trying to get a number of quality games before that.

"The English see this as a significant preparation for them as they will be playing a Caribbean team in the World Cup and being the top team in the Caribbean it would help them to play us," he said.

Downswell added that he would love to play against the other teams in Trinidad's group and as far as he was concerned contact was made with all the countries that qualified for the World Cup finals with a view to getting a game.

"This would be in keeping with our plan of getting at least one international game each month," he concluded.

Football / Ghana grab Fifa award

Jamaica won this award just after Qualifying for France.

Ghana have been awarded Fifa's annual Best Mover of the Year award following their spectacular rise through the Fifa rankings.

The Black Stars, who qualified for their first World Cup two months ago, moved up 27 places to finish 2005 in 50th position.

Their almost continual ascent up the rankings gained them 80 points.

They will be presented with the award at the Fifa World Player Gala in Zurich on Monday.

"To be given this award by Fifa is a great joy for the people of Ghana," Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah told BBC Sport on Monday.

"This award is a big encouragement for us to work harder at next year's African Nations Cup and the World Cup."

The Black Stars topped off a successful year in admirable fashion under the guidance of their Serbian coach Ratomir Dujkovic, beating off such competition as South Africa and DR Congo to qualify for the World Cup.

"We thank our coach who has been very instrumental in our successes this year by bringing the much-needed discipline into the squad," Appiah said.

Ghana demonstrated their defensive prowess by conceding just four goals in 12 qualifying matches.

They recorded five wins, including a 2-0 win over continental heavyweights South Africa in Johannesburg, three draws and not a single defeat in matches relevant to Fifa's world rankings.

Also worthy of note is their creditable performance in a friendly against African giants and former World Cup quarter-finalists, Senegal, which ended in a goalless draw.

The Teranga Lions were then ranked some 30 positions ahead of the Black Stars in Fifa's ranking system.

Fifa's other team award went to Brazil, who top the rankings.

The reigning world champions have been named the Team of the Year, having been defeated only twice in 2005.

I believe this is his second goal for T&T, both have been screamers. Now, to the game. Bahrain strikes me as one of those teams that like to play what I call anti-football. Soak up pressure, look for the counter. These type of teams score alot of their goals from corners, just like they did today. I stopped watching the game when Bahrain scored, and set my VCR to record the remainder of the game. Trinidad will not lose to this Bahrain team over both legs, but it also means that they must at least tie the next 1-1 to keep their hopes alive. a 2-2 will see T&T advancing. If anything, both team sseemed evenly matched. Perhaps it was the coaches ploy to play defensive in the away game...now its Beenhakers time to get his team to do what they do best-atack. Latapy had an off day today...once he finds form on wednesday, the picture could change entirely.

Cuidadito fails!

The indications of the technician Ramon Maradiaga were specific for the defensive zone. Photo Presses Frees: Romeo Rivers.
In the field of the Mateo stage Flowers, the Selection of Guatemala made a single turn of training yesterday at night, in which the technician Ramon Maradiaga made much emphasis in the defensive zone, hoping that tomorrow the reframing works before Costa Rica.

After the vespertine session was delayed, the national set was arranged to exercise in the Mateo stage Flowers, in where by space of one hour and average the technical body looked for to make adjustments in the defensive zone, facing which it will be the last duel of the hexagonal one of the Concacaf before Costa Rica.

There is no time for more. The party morning, to the 18 hours, does not leave long time to present/display greater variables in the scheme, whereas it is anticipated that Guatemala will bet by a system of 4-4-2.

Without clarity

Although the technician worried more about the operation of the defense, during the training, that was affected in an intense rain, handled different situations, in which he used several players.

Angel Sanabria and Gustavo Goatherd by left, whereas in the center Selvin Ponciano and Pablo Melgar occurred to variants with, that alternated with Víctor Hernandez and Elmer Ponciano.

In the attack, Maradiaga proved some combinations. The pairs were varied: Dwight Pezzarossi accompanied to Juan Carlos Silver, whereas Carlos Ruiz was with Mario Acevedo.

The Honduran trainer stopped the plays constantly to make adjustments and to give instructionses each one, but he was more insistent and energetic with the elements of the defensive zone, that before Mexico had serious problems in the mark, proof of it the made goals one by 5-2.

The defense was demanded in pressure situations, the forwards tried to make specific with firings of average distance, but what is a fact is that Maradiaga works to all machine to try to sharpen its eleven before facing the ticos, that classified Saturday the past.

"a great equipment"

The technician Ramon Maradiaga expressed that one of the main intentions of Guatemala for morning will be to gain a rival to him who has the merits to have classified to the World-wide one. "This it will be a very difficult party.

Nobody gives nothing, still more in this type of competitions. We have to do emphasis in work, to treat to win him to great equipment as it is it Costa Rica, that first by merits and soon by a planning that they have established results are giving, is not chance ".

Fredy Garci'a: With responsibility

"the important thing is to gain Wednesday, hoping that Trinidad has a misfortune, to aspire to the repechaje.

We are calm because we are going to face the party with the greater responsibility and one is going away to take advantage of our condition of the premises to look for the victory ", declared.

Elmer Ponciano: Without lamentations

"No longer there is time for lamentations. Now we thought about Costa Rica; it will be a vital party, because we gambled happens to the repechaje. We have faith in God to obtain it ", indicated.

Tickets: There is no expectation

The sale of tickets for the encounter between Guatemala and Costa Rica did not increase after

two days in which they have made available of the public.

According to the manager of the Federation of Soccer, Víctor Hugo Estrada, until to the closing of the day the sale stayed yesterday in only the 20 percent.

Friendly: By the victims

The Federation of Soccer of Guatemala received the invitation on the part of the Mexican leadership to dispute two friendly parties between the Sub-17 Selection, that recently crowned campeona of the world, and combined chapín.

The bottoms that are collected in these two parties, that will possibly be made in the United States, will be for the affected ones by the Stan storm.

It binds Greater: It will not be suspended

Day 12 of the match Opening programmed for the weekend will not be suspended, since the calendar of activities does not allow it, then, in addition, there are slow parties.

National Liga determined yesterday that the party between Suchitepéquez and Jalapa could be suspended, because in this case the possibility does not exist of traveling to that region of the country.

Football / The trend so far...
« on: October 09, 2005, 10:33:40 AM »
is that teams are picking up most of tehir points playing at home, with the exception of Panama of course, I believe they have lost 3 of their home games so far. I'm not surprised that Costa rica blew out the USA 3-0 last night, and I dont think the end result wuold have been much different had the USA sent a stronger team. USA has never won a WCQ game in Costa Rica.

Mexico looked impressive at home vs Guatemala last night...Guatemala, shitty as they are, managed to score twice. They seem to be prepared to fight every inch of the way.

Now, the two important games again on Wednesday will be Trini/Mex and Guate/CRC. My experience tells me that the 12th man(home crowd)  will be a factor in both games, and I honestly expects Guatemala to give it everything at home to Costa Rica. Before men start accusing me of hating on Tinidad, please understand that this is just my expectaions based on the trend so far. It means that Trinidad needs to go all out vs Mexico, and must play their a-game, just in case Guatemala wins. The way I see it right now, Trinidad has a 60% chance of taking th eplayoff spot, while Guatemala has a 40% chance. You have to believe that Beenhakker has things all worked out...which is why its importantto have experioenced coaches at this level.

so with T&T now on 10 points...Guatemala still on 8....Trinidad now has its destiny in its own hands...Win on Wednesday, and move on to the play offs. A tie, or even a loss vs Mexico could still get T&T trhough, but who knows what Costa Rica will do vs Guatemala.
