New German Reggae boy. Hard to imagine how the JFF only just now calling him to the progranm after he first indicated his eligibility (Jamaican Dad, German mom) over 3 years ago. Looking at the list of clubs hes played for...I'd say he should be able to hold his own in CONCACAF.

Full name :Daniel Gordon
Date of birth: 16 January 1985 (age 27)
Place of birth: Dortmund, West Germany
Height: 1.94 m (6 ft 4 in)
Playing position: Midfielder
Current club: Karlsruher SC

Other Clubs previous:
  • Borussia Dortmund(2000–2004)
  • VfL Bochum II (2004–2006)
  • Borussia Dortmund (2006–2009)

Reggaefan, seems like yuh have a problem and what a nice problem to have but its all good for Jamaica, seeing that you can call on 11 from the MLS and 4 from Northern Europe.Just out of interest how many of those players are sure to make the Jamaica team,I think you also got some in the UK too, well, well nice position to be in,on paper you should get to Brazil.I work with some British Jamaicans and they are already planning for that day and I will be going if Jamaica get their.

Here is Jamaicas team that started the last WCQ game. The name sin bold are based in MLS and will likely be called for the Caribbean cup.

Team: Gk – Dwayne Miller; Defenders – Shavar Thomas, Nyron Nosworthy, Lovel Palmer, Midfielders – Jermaine Taylor, Jason Morrison, Je-Vaughn Watson Jermaine Hue; Forwards – Luton Shelton and Ryan Johnson.

In addition, these other MLs players will be available:
MLS
Simon Dawkins (San Jose)
Omar Cummings (colorado Rapids)
Dane Richars (Vancouver)
Darren Mattocks (Vancouver)

and these will be available from Europe:

Dwayne Miller (Sweden)
Demar Philips (Norway)
Tremaine Stewart (Norway)

we will have to go with 99% same squad.

games are 2 weeks away.

we may be able to add one or two MLS based like Keon Daniel because MLS is on break,  but dont see UK based making the trip

So mostly it is the same squad.

I totally forgot about the timing, anyway these boys beat Cuba and Suriname and we could have beaten both teams by bigger margins and that says a lot about the team.I feel like they are starting to step up and we could surprise many people when you consider what we have been through. It is always a difficult situation when your team is on a roll and then you have to change players, but that's the way it go sometimes.

Forget about players playing in leagues that are currently in progress (England based players for example)
The MLS is officially over (or will be soon), so i expect all teams to have their MLS based talent available. This is a huge plus for Jamaica, who can pick 11 players from the MLS alone...coupled with the avaialability of about 4 players playing in Norway/Sweden/Denmark/Findland who will also be on winter break. for many of these players, this is a last chnace opprtunity for them to stake a claim for inclusion in the final squad to play in the Hex early next year.

Jamiaca FA is making real joke

they pass on Asley young, Sturidge and Raheem.

That front line would gaurantee the next 2- 3 world cups.

If men eligible to play you have to tie them down by any means necessary.

A few Skets, a nice beach view condo and a bag full with some money would have done it.

None of these men gauranteed a spot on england team

So a sure spot on JA squad may have looked good

But you need to sell the plan... As a group with more men to come and make the team strong in the future.

Problem with the JFF is that they dont know how to deal with high-calibre players. They are afraid that the players egos would dwarf theirs.  Marlon King is no longer a Jamaica player because of this.

I have no idea what you arguing against nah fella... my contention is not whether he genuinely sees himself as Jamaican or whether objectively speaking he's authentically Jamaican enough.  That is somebody else's argument.  I'm simply saying you can't say he spent his "formative years" in Jamaica when he left the island at the age of six.

I hear ya.

Football / Re: Raheem Sterling

His formative years were spent in Jamaica. Yes, he would probably be in football wilderness today if he had stayed in Ja. Fact that the man leave all the way in england to attend a funeral for a relative in Jamaica tells you how much he is connected to the island of his birth and his legacy there. When you grow up in a household with Jamaican parents...you are Jamaican through and through brother.

Uhm... he left when he was six... He skull hardly fuse by that time, let alone "formative years".

Try telling that to his parents. I'm talking first hand here as a parent...in fact my three kids were born in the US...but they identify themselves as Jamaicans wherever they go.  I dont think its any different with Raheem. Obviously Jamaica takes no credit for his football development...we simply dont have the football culture/facilities here to properly identify and develop young talent the way England can, but Jamaicans will claim Raheem as one of ours.  The kid holds a Jamaican passport! he is a naturalized citizen of England! In fact, let him commit a serious crime in the UK and see what they do wwith him. Yes, they send him back "home" to Jamaica. If he were to have decided he wanted to sell drugs for instance, you and other swould not resist the first opportunities to label him "Jamaican" ... it works both ways brother.  Hodgeson will start him in the next world cup qualifier to tie him to them, just like they did with Daniel Sturridge.

Several Pro League clubs were on the lookout for talent. It would not be unusual if there were some North American scouts too.

I'd think they'd want to wait until the Finals in Antigua when all the best talent would be on show.

Hard to believe this kid is only 17 years old. I believe there are many more like him in Jamaica, but for lack of proper football facilities and structured system, falls by the wayside. The Daily Mail did a feature on the player. Theodore Whitmore said he looked at the player a year ago before he was a star, and passed up on him!
 :frustrated:

...

Misleading ... iz not like he flashed from JA when he was 12, 13, 14 ... de yute lef when he was an infant?

What kind of cow pasture they have we youths playing on boy?

Same thing I was thinking. Could any team play well on that surface?

That field, believe it or not, is the home of Waterhouse FC, one of the teams in the Jamaica demoestic top flight league. That field is used daily for training purposes and host permier league games weekly...so its in use almost constantly. Ideally clubs should have seperate training fileds seperate from their main football field...but thats asking for too much in a country with meagre resources.  Its a reflection of the poor football facilities in Jamaica...unfortunately unlike you folks in T&T, its the clubs responsibility to source and maintain their own playing fields....there are no stadia built with FIFA and government funds sitting around the island.

No offence to Haiti.

But imagine a country with less resources beating us at this level every time.

It shows how poor we are at the administration level.

The Haiti team looked much more organised and give us less playing time on the ball, closed down all spaces too, they seemed better coached.

I to am not happy with Ross Russell as a coach.

What kind of resources you talking about? Human Resources or Financial resources. And judging by the state of your football federation, it might just be the case that there is more FINCANCIAL resources in Haitian football than there is in T&T football at the moment. The assumption here is that we not talking about money from the national treasury. I also like what guyana are doing with I assume, very meagure financial resources. Look at ghana also...relatively poor country, but can hold its own agaisnt the world powers (USA for instance) Human resources trump financial resources in football IMHO

Unlike every one else I am picking, Mexico, USA and Jamaica to get out of the hex as Automatic qualifiers..

I'm going to play devils advocate here and pick the USA and Mexico for two of the 3 automatic spots.
That leaves Honduras, Costa Rica, Jamaica, panama to battle it out for the remaining 1.5 spots. I believe Honduras' 8-1 drubbing of Canada is not a real indication of Honduras strengths....its more the mental weakness of the Canadians. Cuba did much better in Honduras than the sorry Canadians....Costa Rica looks to have lost a step, and i believe they would do well to go back to playing their home games at the Saprissa...i believe the new stadium they play in does not give them the same atmosphere most CONCACAF teams fear.
This is one game Jamaica must look to come away from with something...3 points prefferably. I'm not saying it will happen..just saying this is perhaps the mostlikely place it will happen on the road.

Panama is a team on the rise...and they seem to own Jamaica recently. Personally, I'm more fearful of Panama than CRC and HON, especially in Panama.

I think CONCACAF will end up with 4 teams in the World cup this time around. I dont think New Zealand can survive home and away against the 4th place concacaf team (Jamaica/Pan/Hon/CRC). Jamaica recently beat NZ in Auckland with literally a B team...they must have been missing some key players as well, but it at least shows where they are with their football.

4 years ago Jamaica was in a similar position...last game at home they needed 4 goals against Canada, and hope for Mexico to beat Honduras in Honduras. Well, as fate would have it, Jamaica won 3-0, which in the end didnt matter, as Honduras won the game. to edge Jamaica out. Hoping for something more positive tonight.

Antigua is a decent team...but I'd fancy our chnaces against them more than USA or Guatemala.  this game will produce three goals, the question is, will Jamaica keep a clean sheet.

How the tides have turned in CONCACAF. Imagine a country as dominant as the USA contemplating parking the bus to avoid defeat against of all teams Guatemala...at home to boot.

At the end of the day, Whitmore screwed himself..and jamaica in the process.  omiting key players, arguably Jamaica's most prolific goal-scorer King was banished for "breaking curfew", an experienced Ricardo fuller cant make the bench, while we have guys playing in Jamaica's domestic league making the squad.

Sando - I share your sentiments and to add insult to injury. the commentators were saying Caribbean teams
do not travel well. Jamaica really looked like Trinidad lately, I think the Coach has to take some blame for after parking the bus and seeing the ball hit the post on three occasions, Yuh know it aint working.
Having pressured the ball in the first game and using the pace of your forwards to unsettle USA - Why not go with that strategy. Jamaica showed USA too much respect. now they are in danger of not getting the second spot. USA have Antigua and Guatemala at home . JA beating Guatemala at home is not an easy task.
It may well go down to Goal difference.

I dont think anyone here expected the USA to lose back to back games to Jamaica or any other team in CONCACAF for that matter. Yes, something stinks about Jamaica's approach to the game, but i think you have to give the USA the respect they deserve playing at home.

Now, in terms of games remaining and which two teams are likely to go through, at this point I like Jamaica's chanches of getting through with the USA. Guatemala will almost certainly lose against the USA in the USA, while Ill bet money that Jamaica will route Antigua in Kingston on the final match day if they need a victory to advance. Jamaica travels to Guatemala before that in waht will no doubt be a tough game, but even if Guatemala wins that game, I still think Jamaica will route Antigaue in the office to advance ahead of Guatemala.

I was planning on going to the game....these people should know that peple buying tickets at the gate. not to mention is Kenya JA playing so it is not a hype team , but I expect at least 10,000 people would have been there, jamaica have nuff people in hartford.

Was about to get tickets online, then i saw this....would have been the first time i believe the boyz would be playing in Hartford...which has a huge jamaican expat community....so kinda surprising that the game is a no go.  :bs:

So Tappa lost his first match. Big deal. He also has 4 wins and a draw. All  in 2012. Why didn't Oral Tracey point this out.
Panama won fair and square against a non-cohesive Reggae Boyz central midfield, with the exception of Joel Senior at left-wing whom was brilliant throughout the match. Making tackles and troubling the Panamanian defence.
And does anyone in their football right mind really believe that Jamaica's Reggae Boyz will play that poorly for the return friendly with Panama; and the World Cup qualifiers with Guatemala and Antigua & Barbuda.
Watch the Jamaican waggonists jump back on the bandwagon after these matches.  :flamethrower: them. ;D

Like I said in a previous post, now is the time to lose. In fact, this might be a blessing in disguise, and i really do expect a much improved showing in tomorrows return leg game. Having said that, Panama will be a serious contender for a spot in Brazil.

Everybody does talk bout what TNT have to offer our players.. Pride is all dat counts.. Look at Jamaica squad yu think dem players getting big money? Pride Jamaicans have Pride in representing there country Jamaica .. where is our Pride..  Listen to war carefully when  My kids reach that point of where I believe they can represent TNT . I will prfer them to represent the red black and white first and foremost. I dont support no player who who has Trini back ground and refuse to represent My birth land .. I am a Trini ...
As much as I love american national team I support My country of Birth TNT.....

War, I believe one of the advantage Jamaica has over many coutries is its strong sporting legacy. While we are realtive minnows in world football, our previous appearance at France 98 along with our exploits on world track and field scene makes us a viable option for footballers looking to launch an international career. Outside of Mexico and say the USA, i dont think any other country in CONCACAF has the international sport/culture appeal Jamaica has overseas. New Reggae boy recruit Adrian Miriappa of Watford recently turned down representig another nation to represent Jamaica instead. there is also a battle currently on bwteen Jamaica and Canada for Blackburn striker Junior Hoilette, who is yet to decide. Canada was first to approach him, then the JFF showed interest through his Jamaican dad. word is that he has recently started papaer work to represent Jamaica.

Hmm. Given the kid's age (17 yo), I imagine he'd probably be playing with the youth teams initially, then hopefully work his way up to reserves and then senior team. I know a local Jamaican club/academy based in Austria recently sold a couple teenage kids to clubs in France and germany for minimal transfer fees.
The good thing for these kids is that they get early exposure to professional setup.

If you guys can re-discover the form you showed in the Pan-am games, you will have a real shot at qualifying. Result vs Mexico will set the tone. good luck.

jamaica would be lucky to even make the hex this time around, and yes they are one of my favorites to make the hex, and hoping they do, bc there's no english speaking caribbean team in true contention for the hex, but remember, guatemala and ATB eh no push overs.

Man you are one delusional fella. You are saying that Jamaica cant get the better of Antigua and Guatemala home and away for a spot in the Hex? What has antigua done recently for you to feel they are "no pushovers?" didnt T&T just whack them 4-0 at home? they are probably the weakest team left in the copmetition... I didnt mention the USA because they will win the group, the competition is really for the remaininng spot.  Not sure what Guatemala is up to these days, but the fact that I've heard nothing from their quarters recently suggests to me that their football is not on the up at the moment...if there is one team in central america that I feel we can beat twice (home and away) it would have to be guatemala. I hope they dont prove me wrong :)

The thing that is going to look bad on caribbean teams is the heavy licking teams like Antigua, Guyana and to a lesser extent Cuba will take in central America, and in particular mexico. Jamaica could get blow out too, but i beleieve we have kept the scores respectable in our away games over the years.

I have to say Lara, Sobers, and Bolt

Unfortunately, cricket is only played in commonwealth nations, and most importantly, cricket is the name of an insect in the minds of the average American. Sobers? Lara? no way. Dwight yoke is more of a global icon that Lara.

Usain Bolt gets my nod, and not because I'm Jamaican  :)

Hmm, not sure JAmaica even has an active under-23 squad at the moment, but I suppose they can use 3 or 4 of the guys who recently played on the senior team + the best qualified candidates from the RSPL.  Not sure what to make of this game, but given that your boys have been playing together for some time now, i'd expect you to have a more cohesive unit...1-0 goal victory for the boyz or tied game  ;)

RF... question for you... I atch the sportsmax show "sportsmax zone'..with lance withaker and wavell hinds a lot... hinds top class..lance too...

anyhow... a ew weeks ago..they had the assistant coach on the show.. a brazillian.. Montassano or something like that... he do a full length interview...well spoken and good talks on the game... and then today on sportsmax.. all the post match quotes from the game vz new zeland also came from the brazillian... whats up with that?

Is Tappa the main man
for real??)

Did tappa blank the press ??

is it that the jamaician public want to hear the brazzilian ???

shed some light please ...

and is it one brazilian or two brazilians ???   .. and dont do like George Bush and ask me ' How much is one Brazilian??"...lol

Tappa is not a very camera happy type of guy, so i wouldnt be surprised if he delegated this responsibility to Montesso.
Having said that, i also wouldnt be surprised if it is a JFF mandate that Montesso handled the PR side of things as far as the coaching staff is concerned, as, sadly, corporate Jamaica are more likely to get involved with Montesso being Brazilian. Tapps is the head coach, Montesso his assistant...but you get the  feeling that Montesso is a more influential member of the coaching staff than is title may suggest.

Aye RF, whats the latest, long time I aint give u some talk.
Good result by jamaica, so you think tappa is the man eh?
I feel Jamaica will make it to the Hex, although with jamaica, like T&T and west indies, inconsistency is the consistent thing it seems, u never know which ja will show up.
The key is Guatemala, everybody will beat up poor Antigua, and USA will dominate everyone else.
Some men here like they get excited and bawling Ja will top the hex already. LOL.
Its gonna be tough, USA and Mexico seem to be pulling away even further, Costa Rica still bitter they lost out last time and coming strong for sure, I think they have the most impressive preparation over the last year, Honduras will attempt to repeat, shithong Panama always seem to find a way to surprise teams, and u never know what to expect from El Salvador and Guetamala.
Predicting that 3rd team from the region to qualify is a brave endeavour.

So wha u think about Portia and PNP back in business?
U think Usain will triple gold again?
What cause that dramatic reduction in Ja crime last year? Almost unbelievable..
U think Gayle will suit up for west indies ever again?

If I'm to go on record and predict the top three finishers in the Hex I'll definately have to go with USA, MEx, Costa Rica in that order.
Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Canada to fight for the scraps. I do not expect much from Antigua, Guyana, Cuba, cant see them getting to the Hex

There are talks of a number of players in England joining the Jamaica squad, guys like fuller, jermaine beckford etc, if these guys can come
in and click, then I'd give Jamaica the edge over hon, pan, can over two legs, but thats a huge IF.

As far as Tappa is concerned, he brings something to the table that no other coach can bring to this team: he is well respected by the players, and can relate with
them better than any other coach can. In other words the guys are always motivated to do well for him. Personally i feel he is a little short on tactical awareness at the CONCACAF / international level
but he will improve the longer he remains at the helm. He will be the man in charge right through, so he will either fai or suceed at taking us to the promise land along with his Brazilian assistants.

RF, nice posts, however, we got our asses kicked fair and square and we must accept that.

That's just the way the chips fall.

T&T are a better team but not the administrated part which affect the team play as well as players unwillingness to play with heart.

Still not sure why a teamwith the likes of Kenwyn Jones, Carlos Edwards, Chris Birchall etc out while antigua and barbuda still in it....what makes it even more shocking is the fact that a world reknowned coach was being paid handsomely to guide your team. I've always maintained that the Federation is probably the most important piece of the puzzle. I mean burrell is not squeeky clean, but the man has a drive within him that is unparellelled in the region, which is the main reason why Jamaica is where they are today. sad thing is once burell demits office, there is no one to replace him, or now one is showing the abiity to replace him effectively.
