Hate to be the stick in the mud, but fellas it was Antigua.  :-\

Boss,

we lose to Guyana and Bermuda in the space of one week.
Antigua still in it.

Personally, I go shut my ass and take it.

VB

No way guyana and Antigua should be still in with a chance of making the world cup while much better teams in the region sits at home looking on. Specifically i'm speaking of T&T and Haiti both of whom are undoubtedly better than the likes of Guyana and antigua.  I expect both Antigua and Guyana to a lesser extent to lose all their games in the next round...i am sure they will have other ideas and wuold love to prove everyone wrong. Guyana is not a bad team, but their preperation is woeful.  Most of the teams in the next round travelled away to face mostly european and south american teams, did guyana play a game yesterday?  Jamaica has Panama and Costa Rica next couple months, while antigua and guyana twiddletheir thumbs...with only three months to go.

I have said it frm di start Jamaica will qualify for brazil I gurantee dat... Theese are small game I will concider  they are playing right now but trust mi .. JA still have nuff fire power to top di Hex.. yes war sey suh.. Top di hex di have a huge pool of players and never dispose of a player before gaving them a bligh unlike TNT...

There is something about the Jamaicans that make them special whenever they take the field, every player seems to give 200%,they are born fighters and it seems that they feel no one can beat them, dont mistake this for arrogance its the Jamaican psyche.I know they haven't qualified for the HEX as yet but they will and can top it when they get in.We can do well to learn a few things from the Jamaicans.

Good showing from the team. all three scorers vs new Zealand plays in the domestic RSPL. Also, given that the guys had a gruelling 24 hr journey from the other side of the world and played the game at what would have been 1:30 am Jamaica time, this was a decent effort.

Jamaica finally score after many misses 1-0 after 35 minutes, commies describe Dino Williams as Messi,2-0 now.

Game ended 3-0 in Jamaica's favor. Never mind the over-exhuberant commentators, they remind me of Andre Baptiste in many ways.
Thanks for that,I was up quite late and the way things were going I thought Yard will score bout 10,still 3-0 win against Cuba is a very good beating, yuh Boyz will surely be in Brazil.

I admire your optimism...we play New zealand on Wednesday in wellington, thats a better indicator.

maybe we dominated in the region @ one time bc these countries were not taking football seriously, together with their lack of infrastructure allowed us to dominate for so long

I dont think infrastructure really have anything to do with it mind you. For instance, what infrastructure does Grenada have? Guyana? Bermuda? Haiti even? Cuba? Antigua? Guadeloupe? These teams have been improving in recent years with little or noreal football insfrastructure in place (when compared to most teams in CONCACAF) also, back in the days when T&T dominated regional football, your infrastructure back then was no better than say a Jamaica or Cuba, correct me if I'm wrong here. Jamaica today only has 3 FIFA approved facilities capable of staging world cup qualifiers, but in my mind one is all that is needed. The real issue i think that is plaguing caribbean teams is the lack of real football culture, as this is the only thing that will sustain football at all levels, from federation level right down to the fans and the players in between.

Again, it speaks to the role of the TTFF in all this...now i understand with Jack getting the boot and the President resigning that it would be hard to do the little things, but the TTFF should never leave it up to the Guyana Federation to have the last say as to where the TT players are accomodated. In fact i know for sure that there are basic standards that must be adhered to when accomodating international teams for FIFA sactioned games, and both federations must sign off on those. Also, the visitors is within their rights to chnage venue if they are not comfortable with accomodations provided. Yes, i know this because Jamaica has had to chnage hotels on a number of occasions when they are given sub-standrad facilities, including training facilities.

So while I hear what Big Mag is saying, the TTFF must shoulder some of the blame...there should have been a delegation from the TTFF in guyana ahead of time to sign off on training facilities, hotel accomodation, transportation, meals and team security on the ground ahead of time. They also has it within their rights to demaand police escort if they feel the need for it.

And if possible file a complaint with FIFA if they were dissatisfied.

I respect the Guyanese poster for his tone and respect for T&T while bigging up his own team (RF could take a page out his book) - very classy, but I am sorry sir, this is not cricket....

He heh. Jamaica are number 1 team in Caribbean for roughly 15 years now...Jamaicans never ever feel the need to "suck up" to any caribbean team when it comes to sports. Respect is earned. Good luck to both teams, may the best team on the day win, and see one of you in the next round.

lol yeah he kinda put he foot in he mouth dey .... itll be a good experience but I expect 4 -0 losses all through and eve saying it was a good experience for the boys.
Is a mentality yuh have to try and build .... my stats might be off here but I think it was 1992 european championships that Denmark came in as a replacement I think and won the whole thing or was it greece? Tallest feel free to correct me.
I dunno some bogey team came in and refuse to lie down .... Trini need this tournament to build some kinda backbone!!! We teams seem to be lacking that!

Why you expecting 4-0 losses all through? Have some faith in your coach and your yuong fooballers, didnt most of these guys play under 20 world cup a couple years ago? If memory serves me correctly, Jamaica lost 2-1 to Argentina Ecuador in the final of this tournament a couple years aback...so its not so much a daunting task...http://www.haitiwebs.com/showthread.php?t=45565

Going by that, you guys hsould be able to go one better and win the whole thing

74
REGGAEfan why are u lecturing us about good teams when your team NEVER beat the USA. Don't you have something better to do?

Not lecturing about good teams...I'm making a point about getting carried away with beating Barbados and Bermuda...Never beaten the USA...but have beaten better than the USA...thats good enough for me.

nothing much to do today...its a Friday afternoon..

75
Reggaefan I just read in a Caribbean. American Jamaican based newspaper that Whitmore job is on the line after 5 defeats. It further stated that had it not been for the brilliant goalkeeping of your custodian , the score line would have been embarrassing against Honduras

Yes, Honduras could have won by a wider margin against Jamaica in Honduras, but that has traditionally been the case when Jamaica play in Honduras. Even so, i believe 1-1 at halftime and eventually losing 2-1 can hardly be seen as a disapointing result...its about what you'd expect when these teams play, anyone can win, Jamaica's chnaces of winning are higher when the game is played on neutral grounds or in Kingston. Honduras was looking to avenge the 1-0 loss they suffered to Jamaica last world cup qualifiers amd the gold cup recently.

Whitmore's Job is safe for now..I dont think the JFF really expected that Jamaica were going to go to places like Ecuador, China etc and win. The same china team that beat Jamaica had months befire drubbed Honduras 3-0, and like I said, the same Ecuador team that beat Jamaica 5-2 just romped the USA in the USA, so these are good teams that are ahead of us...

Whitmore will come under fire when he starts losing games played in Kingston...world cup qualifying games....now is the time for him to lose and learn in the process. Peru and venezuela also had narrow victories over us away...in my opinion these are good practice games to judge where the team is...id much rather lose 5-2 to Ecuador at altitude than win 4-0 agaianst Grenada.

this coach has proven to us how we playing good football, ok with minor errors ok check this links of d old trinidad

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlJZg95FPo4, so look at this highlight
tnt vs mexico http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykUzwn-1Gzs and when tinto scored in mexico http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrQRtNWwlGA&feature=related. plz look at the style and the player.

now lets watch trinidad vs guyana next month, i hope trinidad and tobago b able to show both games. so we can c how they improve. and plus when trinidad made sweden ok stern never say they played a good brand of football in his latest interview, ok.

mr yard man(@Reggaefan), plz look at jamaica squad,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW2no8Litzo (china vs jamaica)

http://livetv.ru/en/showvideo/75556/ (houdura vs jamaica)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zz23wTtXkc (educador vs jamaica)

check these videos i c no brand and each game plays d same way

So it looks like you are very much agreeing with what I'm saying here then no? Jamaica as you put it looks disorganized against the stronger south american opponents away, but look how easily Jamaica waltz through the Caribbean Cup recently...further, look how easy Jamaica had it in the gold Cup against first weaker teams like Grenada, Guatemala and Honduras before running into the USA.  The videos linked to in your posts show Jamaica in action against teams that are generally better than Jamaica...even moreso that these games are played away. I've always had great respect for Honduras football, these guys are not centro america champs and world cup qualifiers by accident, they play good attacking football...same too for Ecuador who also just defeated the USA in their back-yard.

If you are going to talk about your team playing a particular brand of football...then that brand has to be tested against decent teams. You could probably find a team from your domestic PFL leage that would close down spaces on the field better than Barbados or Bermuda did in the two games....

Organize a game vs Haiti and test the brand against them...i feel your players would find less space on the ball...play a team like Canada and see how they close spaces off in comparison to teams like antigua, barbados etc

77
Its one thing to play good posession type, one touch football against teams like Barbados and Bermuda....but you have to take that with a grain of salt no? Do it agaisnt the better caribbean teams, and then do it against Cost arica, El Salvador home and away...you'll find that its not that easy when you play against teams who know how to play football.  Youll find that even a team like Grenada would give your players less woom to play one-touchtype ball like Bermuda and Barbados gives...same for Cuba, Haiti

Still, your federation needs to get Pfister some tougher opponents...Barbados, Bermuda, and to a lesser extent guyana are not concidered elite teams in the caribbean...you really should be testing yourselves against better teams.

Jamaica is on a 5 game losing streak...but considering that these losses are to much stronger sount american and central american opponents AWAY, i think the players and coaching staff have a great opportunity to asses the teams weaknesses...

Football / Re: Venezuela could leave us in the dust

We might have beaten Venezuela in the 60s when the only sport they played was baseball but the minute they latched on to the game of football we couldn't beat them.I know they are on the South American Continent but how far are we away...7 bloody miles, maybe our people not serious enough in achieving the very best.

Your proximity to Venezuela is as relevant(irrelevant in this case) as the Bahamas proximity to the United states, Or Guyana's proximity to Brazil (they share a common border) and the rest of the south american continent. Football has much more to do with culture than anything else. Venezuelans naturally have football in their blood as does all other south american countries. To be honest with you, west indians traditionally lean more towards cricket due to the West Indoes cricket team...football has caught on in the caribbean, but its nowhere near as supported in the region as it is in the average south american country (venezuela included)

Honduras 2-1 Jamaica game played in the Honduras October 11 2011
----------

LA CEIBA, Honduras— Jamaica went down 1-2 to Honduras here at the Estadio Municipal Ceibano to record their fifth consecutive defeat.

Striker Jerry Bengtson put the home team ahead in the second minute of play, but Jamaica rallied and got their just reward on the stroke of half time when Demar Phillips placed a perfect left-footed free-kick into the top corner of the goal.

However, 11 minutes into the second half Mario Martinez secured victory when he rifled home with the aid of a deflection, after he danced inside from the right flank and let fly a wicked left-footer from 25 yards.

Played in front of a full house on the northern coastal city of La Ceiba, Jamaica were stunned immediately on Panamanian referee Roberto Moreno's first whistle.

Jamaica charged forward from the kick off but lost possession and were not able to recover on the counter attack as the ball was played down the right flank to veteran Julio Cesar de Leon, who relayed a pass to Roger Rojas. The striker slipped a pass through to Martinez on the right and he easily turned inside Shavar Thomas before centering for Bengtson to tap home easily, much to the enjoyment of the home crowd.

Jamaica gradually clawed their way back into the contest and created the better openings thereafter, but Marvin Elliott, who was making his debut, as well as Phillips and Jason Morrison failed to make use of their opportunities.

Elliott could consider himself unlucky as after twice going close with side-footed efforts, he saw his goal-bound header from inside the penalty area being inadvertently blocked two yards off the goalline by teammate Dane Richards.

Moments later Phillips could not turn home a point blank chance after an amazing defensive error deep inside the penalty box.

However, the left sided player was to make amends and he did after Omar Cummings was fouled just outside the 18-yard box on the right.

Phillips curled home the resulting free kick with aplomb, as Moreno sent the teams to their dressing rooms for the half time break.

Jamaica started the second half much more alert then the first half but soon lost their sting, as the home side assumed the ascendancy.

Goalkeeper Dwayne Miller had to be alert to turn Bryan Bekeles’ short from inside the area around his near post.

The home side piled on the pressure and were duly rewarded when fortune favoured Martinez with his strike.

Phillips went close with another long range free kick, but Jamaica could not create any serious openings, and in fact, had it not been for superb play by Miller, the score line could have been wider.

On at least three occasions he was exposed by his defenders, but stood like a giant to keep the score respectable.

« on: October 10, 2011, 09:30:28 AM »
That is a huge accomplishment to see www.socawarriors.net being mentioned in a soccernet article:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/967803/world-cup:-trinidad-and-tobago-coach-otto-pfister-refuses-to-panic?cc=5901
-----

Otto Pfister is remaining calm ahead of his Trinidad and Tobago side's must-win qualifier against Barbados.

A surprise 2-1 defeat to Bermuda in Hamilton on Friday means the Soca Warriors are already three points behind Group B rivals Guyana in their bid to move into the next stage of qualification.

As a result, three wins from their remaining three fixtures are vital, but Pfister is not yet fearing the worst.

"Bermuda were a good team on Friday,'' the veteran German boss told www.socawarriors.net. "I never look for excuses but we had three or four key players that didn't play and we had three players that played for me for the first time.

"That was difficult for the co-ordination. We now have a home game and I think the competition is open. Bermuda also have their next game at home. This is football and we have to respect the defeat and go again.

"There is no need to press the panic button. In football you have three possibilities. Win, lose or draw. We lost, but the first two games we won and now we have to try and win again.''

Barbados are bottom of the pool and have yet to either score or register a point. Bermuda will look to force their way into the reckoning for top spot by producing another shock, this time against Guyana in Prospect.

In Group D, Canada will put their perfect record on the line against Puerto Rico in Toronto.

A 7-0 win over St Lucia on Friday means Stephen Hart's side are four points clear of St Kitts and Nevis at the top of the group, and a win will put them within touching distance of the next stage.

"It is nice to be home and to know we will have some following on Tuesday,'' Hart said of his side's return to home soil.

St Kitts and St Lucia pair off in the group's other game.

Another side with a 100% record are El Salvador. Ruben Israel's men face Group A's bottom nation the Cayman Islands in San Salvador, where a win is expected of them.

"We hope to reach a good level and perform to get the result,'' defender Victor Turcios said on www.laprensagrafica.com. "From the first day of the group we were told not to underestimate any team. They will want to give their utmost to get the result.''

Suriname host the Dominican Republic in the group's other game.

Elsewhere, Haiti will look to extend their faultless run to four wins from as many games when they face Curacao in their Group F clash in Port-au-Prince, with Antigua hosting the US Virgin Islands in the same pool.

In Group C, Panama take on Nicaragua in Panama City, and Guatemala go up against Belize in Group E.

1) Schoolboy football in Jamaica is divided into two "leagues" one for the shools in the parishes of Kingston and st Andrew (Manning Cup).  and another for the schools in the 13/12 other parishes  (DaCosta Cup)

2) There is no promition/demotion as far as I can remember from my days in high school. Once a school satisfies basic entry criteria, they are good to participate each season. For instance, group A of the Dacosta Cup may contain 5 schools this year, and 7 next year as new schools are entered.

3) At the end of the season, the manning Cup winners Square of with the Dacost cup winners for the "Walkers cup" symbol of football supremacy in the island. I beleiev there is also a "Ben Francis cup" tourney played between the top 2 from each conference.

4) The lack of proper football fields in jamaica has been, and continues to be a big set-back for the development of the sport in the island.  For the most part Jamaica is a very "dry" country (except for about 3 months of the year)...most of the fields are parched and hard for proper grass to grow.

The Manning Cup showcases talent from the higher profile schools in Kingston (KC, JC, Wolmers, Georges etc)...but personally, i believe the "country" Dacosta cup produces the better football.

Regarding SportsMax - I believe they have a licence to re-broadcast Fox Sports content in the caribbean...obviously not many content provider this side of the world...not sure if that can be considered pirating. What i feel they need to do though is find a way to provide content for peeps like myself in the diaspora...id love to watch some schoolboy football highlights

Quite an impressive list of possible call-ups.

Sturidge is probably the player they may want the most, but he is the least likely to play for Jca since he has very realistic England ambitions.

If Jamaica get Pennant, Hines and Prately they should be very optimistic

Sturridge is relatively young, so its probable that he'll get a senior team call up with the england squad if he can continue to do well for Chelsea in the coming years. But for that to happen, he needs a couple good seasons at club level, not sure if he will get to start regulalarly for Chelsea to prove his goal scoring abilities, he might need to move to another club to get more playing time (Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal?) I think the JFF should send him an invite now and see how he responds. If he doesnt take up the offer, no big deal, I think they should still monitor him over the coming years and invite him again if england doesnt come calling (especially if Jamaica get to the HEX). Based on the interviews i've seen of him, looks like he holds his Jamaica roots close to his heart, but given his age, I dont think anyohe can fault him for choosing England first.

RF get yuh facts right nah?! We haven't yet played the regional South American powerhouse Guyana as yet!!
We will play them in November and you will see goals, I’m just not sure which team will be scoring them that’s all!!  :-\

We planning to beat Guyana baddd baddd baddd on the way to Brazil! In fact if you check your map you will see that Guyana is one of the big countries boarding Brazil so once we beat them we can just cross their boarder with little trouble and we should arrive in Rio in a few months or possibly years provided we can get thru all that Amazon Football Forest without a scratch!!  :nailbiting:
So doh be surprised if T&T reach Brazil before everyone else in CONCACAF and bypass the Hex all together now that we have our ''A1' squad together as we should be seriously gelling by the Guyana games in November and Stern and KJ will either be on fire or be fired by then!!

We are “On De Road from Rio Claro and Bound For Brazil” Papa!!
Now watch the ride and don't be disheartened if Jamaica doh make it as we will represent!!  :chilling:

Stern John? What club he playing for these days? At his age, he needs a steady does of competitive football week in week out to stay in shape.

RF..and im serious here... whats the feelings for you  and most Jamaican fans on Tappa coaching the WQC ??

i know his record is very good...just trying to get a feel ...whats the vibe there ??

I believe Tappa gets the best out of the players, they play for him. Rene Simoes came here last campaign and screwed us up big time, when Whitmore took over he was faced with the task of having to win all the remaining games and hope that other results worked in our favor, which he did, but thibgs didnt quiete pan out.

Tappa might not be the most experienced or technically sound coach, but i believe with him now being surrounded by a couple Brazilian "assistants", he will do his best. Lets see if thats good enough to get us into the HEx and to Brazil. Will be hard, but he has the support of the Federation, players and die-hard fans.

As a follow up, I also believe Panama is currently playing the best football i've seen them play in a long time under the coaching of the Dely Valdez brothers. I believe, Like Whitmore, the Panamanian players play for Dely Valdez, who himself only a couple years ago was a national team player and star baller playing in Spain. I believe the players can relate to a guy that they idolized as a player, and now as a coach. Which is why I was somewhat surprised that Latapy didnt enjoy a more successfull stint as coach of T&T, as it seems players always react well to young coaches that played the game.  I dont believe Latapy is a bad coach, i believe its more the players and the Federation that didnt back him 100%.

By the way, how old Is Bracelona's coach (Guardiola) If I'm not mistaken the guy is somewhere between 38 and 42, with very little experience prior to coaching Barca...
