ZURICH (AP) — The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will start on Monday, Nov. 21, kicking off a 28-day tournament that will finish on Sunday, Dec. 18.

FIFA's executive committee confirmed the 2022 dates on Friday, six months after picking Dec. 18 — Qatar's national holiday — for the final.

In March, FIFA finally decided to switch the 2022 tournament from June-July to avoid Qatar's summer heat.

A 28-day World Cup is four fewer than usual and is designed to cause less disruption to clubs and leagues which must shut down for several peak midseason weeks.

FIFA had delayed choosing a kickoff date in Qatar while it held talks on the 2019-2024 schedule of national team fixtures.

The international calendar mandates when clubs must release players for national-team duty.

The calendar approved Friday means clubs must release players to the 32 World Cup teams by Monday, Nov. 14, 2022 — one week before the opening match.

No national team match dates — either qualifiers for continental championships or friendlies — have been set for October 2022.

Instead, the two fixtures typically scheduled in October will be moved forward four months.

That creates a four-match program for national teams, scheduled between May 30 and June 14, 2022 at the end of the European season.

In a minor switch, the September double-header of national team matches will be pushed back two weeks to start on Sept. 20, 2022.

2010 World Cup - South Africa / Trini Flags @ the World Cup
« on: June 23, 2010, 02:06:00 PM »
Although we didn't qualify, it seems like our colours are being represented nonetheless. I spotted this in the USA vs Algeria game today when the USA scored. Maybe it was someone on this board?

Anyone else spot Trini flags at the games?

Football / Guyana replaces N/Antilles for Tuesday's friendly.

Guyana replaces N/Antilles for Tuesday's friendly.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation has for the second time in a week had to cancel a proposed friendly international match due to unforeseen circumstances. The latest change has been the change in opponent for Tuesday’s friendly international at the Marvin Lee Stadium scheduled for 7:30pm.

It was announced on Thursday that the Netherlands Antilles would be arriving here for the encounter. However there are no flights available to bring the Netherlands team from Curacao to Port of Spain before Tuesday and the Netherlands FA General Secretary Hubert Isiena expressed his regret at this on Saturday.

“We are disappointed that an unavailability of flights to take the team to Trinidad in time for Tuesday has forced us to cancel the trip,” Isiena said.

There remained the possibility of the team being able to arrive later in the week but the TTFF and it’s Senior Team coaching staff preferred not to change the match schedule and will in fact stage a friendly international on Tuesday. The Guyana National Senior team will now face T&T at the same venue.

Team manager David Mohammed commented: “We had no choice but to ensure that we go ahead with a scheduled friendly for the date. We have scheduled a program with players attending training sessions etc and we felt there was the obvious need to play an international game. Unfortunately it’s not Netherlands Antilles or one of the Central American nations but Guyana we know have been improving and they are now focusing on qualification for the Digicel Cup and we expect they will present us with a good challenge on Tuesday.”

Meantime, recalled National Team striker Cornell Glen says he is hoping to press his claims to becoming a regular fixture on the team following his latest call up by Francisco Maturana.

“It’s good to get the recall and I just want to help the country as best as I can,” Glen told TTFF Media after his first session on Friday at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

“It’s been frustrating having to look on at the team playing the last few games knowing that I wasn’t able to make a contribution. I know a lot of the other guys have felt the same way. We have supported the rest of the players but at the same time we also want to make a contribution and I’m happy to have gotten this chance now.

“I’m still working on my form.. I’m maybe about 90 percent fully ready and I just hope to get some more playing time which is exactly what I need right now.”

Glen said that he felt assured that the Maturana and his staff will continue to monitor the players and pick the ones worthy of selection on merit.

“Definitely I think the coach is still looking at us. I think he’s doing well to keep the confidence level up among the players in the Pro League but I think he’s also monitoring the senior players and still has hopes of involving the ex-World Cup players who haven’t been involved too much. But generally I think he’s trying to build a team right now and you can’t fault that … it’s good too that he is willing to give the players an opportunity before he settles on a squad.”

The former LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew player still has ambitions of plying his trade overseas.

“That’s part of my career that I think is incomplete. I’m working on getting back out there, maybe in Europe and finishing on a high. I spent three years in the MLS and I’m disappointed that I didn’t win any titles or trophies.

“I’m fully recovered from the injuries, especially the one from the World Cup. It’s been more of a mental battle… having to get the thought of the injury out of my mind and being able to play and give my best. I’m working towards becoming back a fully fit player and I’m just looking to go all out and help the country qualify for the next World Cup,” Glen concluded.

Football / T&T Friendly against Panama on July 27th?
« on: June 30, 2008, 05:57:31 PM »
Does anyone have any information on if this is still happening? It was in the itinerary with the centennial information from the TTFF, but I haven't seen it mentioned since then. Now that Panama get knocked out of WCQ, I dunno if it more or less likely to actually happen.

Can anyone shed some light on this fixture?

Bermuda defeat Barbados 2-1
National team showed signs of improvement

Bermuda National Men’s Football team got off to good start against visiting Barbados in the first of two friendly matches being played at the National Sports Centre.

From the outset Bermuda’s National Senior Men’s Football team performed well under their new Head Coach Kenny Thompson and Assistant Richard Todd. It was evident players moved the ball around the field and created space for themselves.

With only (7) minutes down Damon Ming, received a perfect pass from Kevin Richards, just outside the (18) yard box but his shot went high over the crossbar.

Barbados had a golden opportunity to open their account, in the (19) minute a cross from the left side into the box found Bryan Neblett unmarked, only to have his shot go wide of goal. Barbados squandered another opportunity when Riviere Williams, positioned himself firmly inside the (18) yard box only to see his header go wide of goal.

In the (41st) minute, national team Captain, Omar Shakir, scored a well placed 30 yard free kick when he carved the ball around the Barbados defense and into the back of the net, actually hitting the goal post and into goal, leaving their goalkeeper perplexed.  With (2) minutes added on before the half time whistle, Barbados was awarded a free kick. Like Bermuda, Barbados Captain Norman Forde stepped up and took a well placed free kick as he curved the ball around the Bermuda defense and into the back of the net, leaving Bermuda goalkeeper, Jason Williams gasping for air.

In the second half, both teams played flat, however the (2) respective head coaches made substitutions to inject some life into the game. With (18) minutes to go before the final whistle, John Nusum came on as a substitute and before you know it he received a (25) yard pass from the defense as he outpaced the Barbados defense for goal only to be bought down by their last defender Bryan Neblett. He was eventually given his marching orders after receiving a red card. Bermuda wasted that opportunity or did the Barbados defensive wall better prepared themselves this time around? However you look the score was still 1-1.

With only (4) minutes remaining in the match Jemeiko Jennings and Reggie Lambe combined for some good passing. Lambe found Damon Ming running on his left side and subsequently provided a perfect pass on Ming’s right boot as he calmly placed the ball in the back of the net putting Bermuda ahead, 2-1 with crowd erupting with joy and pleasure at the stadium.

Although it was a friendly match played against Barbados, it was well deserved and improved victory for the National team. The squad must take every advantage against Barbados in the second match Monday night. Still there is room for improvement, and with (1) more match before their big game against Trinidad and Tobago, the National team should iron out all their kinks.

Kitchen Bitch

A mother was working in the kitchen listening to her 6-year-old son playing with his new electric train in the living room. She heard the train stop and her son saying,

"All of you sons of bitches who want off, get the hell off now...cause this is the last stop!, And all of you sons of bitches who are getting on, get your asses on the train...cause we're going down the tracks."

The horrified mother went in and told her son,

"We don't use that kind of language in this house. Now I want you to go to your room and you are to stay there for TWO HOURS. When you come out, you may play with your train... but I want you to use nice language."

Two hours later, the son came out of the bedroom and resumed playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and the mother heard her son say...

"All passengers, please remember your things, thank you and hope your trip was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon."

She heard her little darling continue...

"For those of you just boarding, remember, there is no smoking in the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today."

As the mother began to smile, the child added....

"For those of you who are pissed off about the TWO HOUR delay, please see the bitch in the kitchen."
