Boss set to promote Pogba

Sir Alex has revealed he is promoting Paul Pogba to the first-team squad after being impressed with the FA Youth Cup-winning midfielder.

This is really good/big news. This guy is going to be big IMO. If Morrison can sort himself out, then good times are ahead.

Just saw the interview with a Dutch reporter where Sneijder said that if Man United came calling he would come immediately, but officially they have not come calling yet (only un-officially).

As I suspected; Fergie is done with transfer business. He did say he wanted three players and three players have come in... Shame really...

Sir Alex Ferguson does not expect to make further signings this summer

• Manchester United manager admits missing out on targets
• 'At this moment, I can't see another addition'

Sir Alex Ferguson doubts whether he will sign any more players before Manchester United face their neighbours in the Community Shield at Wembley next month after admitting that the player he really wants is "not available".

The United manager has signed three players this summer but an extensive search for a playmaker to replace Paul Scholes has so far proved to be a failure.

It is anticipated that if Luka Modric and Samir Nasri leave Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively, they will head to clubs other than United and a deal to bring the Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder to Old Trafford from Internazionale has floundered due to the extreme costs involved.

Ferguson is therefore preparing with the squad he has now for a Community Shield match with a difference as it pitches United against their Manchester rivals, City, who won the FA Cup last season to end a 35-year trophy drought.

"It is not a normal Community Shield for Manchester United," said Ferguson. "It is addressing our noisy neighbours again. It will be an interesting match."

It is a phrase Ferguson first used following United's dramatic derby triumph over City at Old Trafford in September 2009, when Michael Owen scored the winner in a 4-3 victory. City have since made even further inroads on United's territory, with Ferguson admitting the prospect of further signings is slim. "We lost five players in their 30s this summer. That helped finance the three younger players – Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David de Gea – I have brought to the club.

"At this moment, I can't see another addition. The type of player we might have been looking for is not available. I am happy with the players I have got at this moment in time."

Ferguson also revealed that Javier Hernández, who has finally made his eagerly awaited appearance on tour following a triumphant Gold Cup campaign with Mexico, is unlikely to be involved in the match with the MLS All‑Stars at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday. Hernández only began training on Monday and the United manager does not want to push him too hard.

"He has had a month's holiday, which he needed after the Gold Cup," said Ferguson. "It was a long season and he played in the World Cup as well, so he has not had a lot of rest in the last year. The most important thing for us is to give him some proper training before we even consider him for the first team."

Hernández's arrival has been welcomed by fans, who on United's three stops so far have been disappointed by the Mexican's absence. It is a reflection of the impact he has made since joining the club 12 months ago, although he insists his life has not changed despite the obvious adulation.

"I feel the same," he said. "I am playing for the best team in the world. The only thing that has changed in the last 12 months is that I have played a lot of games. All I have done is try to improve. That is the only thing on my mind.

"This whole move has been a dream come true for me. The key has probably been my boss and my team-mates. It means a lot to me to be part of Manchester United. All the extra things are just that, extra things. To be part of this team is wonderful."

O'Shea and Brown sold to Sunderland...  loyal servants but time to move on.. thanks for the contribution and good luck in the future

Fergie's rebuilding again..Be warned

Sad news. Wasn't always an O'shea fan but he was a loyal servant and in truth a good utility player. Same goes for "Orange". Scoring against 'pool at the Kop end, nutmegging Figo; all good memories.   Gibson should be in this deal as well. Not so many tears for that one though...

Man U seem to be making some boss moves this off season, both in and out.

So far so good, but I think activity may be at an end. The press is speculating about Sneijder and Nasri, but I don't think Fergie was ever going for these guys. Maybe Nasri (who I don't fancy), but I always thought Sneijder was a non-starter. I think/hope the young players (Morrison, Cleverly, Welbeck, Tunicliffe) will get a chance.

General Discussion / Re: OMG Gays take to PoS streets today
« on: May 18, 2011, 11:31:28 PM »
aye Pro, I said I was done, but ......

I think yo are displaying the common misconception that gay people only interested in sex. Your focus seems to be on the 'sex' thing and reproduction. Gay people want sex to the same degree as straight and have the same extremes as observed in straight sexual desires.  At least that is what I conclude as I observe the gay people in my community.

All gay people want are the same rights and privileges as any other member of society: to be accepted, to work, play, love, engage with society, to volunteer, to watch a sports match (or not), to read, to relax, to be free or persecutions, to abide by the laws of the land, to go to church (or not), etc.

Why should they be removed from their non-gay family members? why should they be segregated?

Again I will point out for the final time my proposal is about giving everyone more choice!

I am not proposing forcing anyone to live in any particular society but rather to give them a viable option if they wish to take it up. Some people will naturally segregate themselves according to their personal preferences and the company they prefer to keep!

I am not proposing denying gays any of their human rights but want to give them the opportunity to tailor certain laws to their advantage like allowing gay marriage, teaching that being gay is normal in schools, etc  if they want to.

But as we know changing certain laws will conflict with what straight folks in regular society will be happy with like allowing gay marriage etc! Solution have a gay state where the gays are the majority and they dictate the law!

I have not argued anywhere in my proposal about denying gays any of their human rights but certain things will not be resolved for gays in regular society like them not being allowed to marry and other similar issues!

As I already pointed out there are already gay areas in most major cities in the west. I am just taking the scenario one step further and giving them a gay state or even country where they are allowed to dictate the laws, re-write the Bible to their advantage, get married and basically do as they see fit without any of the laws working against their basic human rights!

What so wrong with that?!
I’m all for gay rights and equality otherwise I wouldn’t table this proposal for them having their own state/country where they are the majority and make/control the laws!

Which island/country/state would you give them? With access to what resources? Who makes that decision? straight people on behalf of gay people?

Ravel Morrison in trouble again   >:( ...

Manchester United's Ravel Morrison faces assault charge

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/may/06/manchester-united-ravel-morrison-charge

Manchester United are reeling from the news that their most highly regarded youth-team player, Ravel Morrison, is facing the possibility of a prison sentence that threatens to wreck his career.

Morrison, tipped to be one of the pre-eminent English footballers of his generation, appeared at Salford magistrates' court on Wednesday charged with assaulting his girlfriend and causing criminal damage. The 18-year-old is already the subject of a 12-month referral order after appearing at Trafford youth court, then aged 17, in January on a separate matter.

The latest incident allegedly took place on 19 April, the day before Morrison helped United beat Chelsea to reach the FA Youth Cup final. Morrison was given conditional bail and the case was adjourned until 25 May, when he will enter a plea.

Morrison has represented England at every level from the Under-16s to Under-19s and has been described at Old Trafford as the most naturally talented footballer to come through the ranks since Paul Scholes. An attacking, two-footed player, he turned professional on his 17th birthday and made his first-team debut as a substitute in the Carling Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers in October.

United are aware of the court case and have declined to comment. Morrison, described on the club's website as a "supremely gifted talent", was in the squad that travelled to Liverpool on Thursday for a reserve match. The club have dismissed rumours that he has been suspended, or is not training, and the teenager is still in contention to play in the youth cup final against Sheffield United. The first leg is at Bramall Lane on 17 May followed by the return fixture at Old Trafford on 23 May.

Morrison's court date is two days later and United face the possibility of losing one of the more prodigiously talented young players on their books.

Manchester United fans unveil '19 times' banner at Anfield

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/may/16/manchester-united-19-times-banner-anfield

• Red Issue fanzine organises stunt before Liverpool v Spurs
• Getaway car was waiting outside the ground

Manchester United fans attempting to ensure maximum enjoyment is wrung out of the club's record-breaking 19th title took their cause to Anfield on Sunday, unveiling a banner inside the ground before the Reds' game against Spurs.

United clinched their landmark 19th title on Saturday, finally eclipsing Liverpool's total of 18, and the club's supporters went to great lengths to ensure those at Anfield were fully aware of that fact.

As Liverpool fans began their customary chorus of You'll Never Walk Alone, United fans, organised by the Red Issue fanzine, unveiled a banner emblazoned with the words "MUFC 19 TIMES" in the Anfield Road End of the ground.

Those responsible had a getaway car waiting outside the ground, plus fellow conspirators in the adjoining stand in order to get photographic evidence.

The banner-baiting between the clubs has a long history, with Liverpool fans' now famous "Come Back When You Have Won 18" banner kicking things off in 1994. United fans responded to that after clinching their 18th title in 2008-09 and have now added another chapter to the ongoing rivalry.

Well look thing I mentioned our dollar as being the world reserve note and golly now china is proposing a change.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_china_g20_dollar

The IMF has been pushing the idea of replacing the US dollar reserve with a basket of currencies and possibly some tangible assets like gold and oil for quite some time. There is strong support in China, France, Russia and few other nations. So expect the dollar to continue a long term trend of devaluation. I have heard that Utah has recently passed legislation to make gold and silver legal tender in that state.

Oil would be a stretch as it go done in the nex few decades

bakes, thanks for posting the clip.  :beermug:

well, this speech indicates he's backed away from his sentiment that "ghaddafi must go" (paraphrase) but for puzzling reasons. he spends the first part of the speech describing the atrocities of ghaddafi's forces then says something to the effect that de usa can't remove him because "the opposition" didn't ask for this. apparently it is enough to be in the "opposition" (i.e. an enemy of ghaddafi) to be vetted as worthy of calling the shots, forming the next libyan government, etc..

thing is gates and the national intel director figure ghaddafi will eventually win the civil war, even with the no-fly zone. so if the "opposition" comes back in a few weeks saying - you know what, take de muddersoandso out, then what? way too much authority is left in the hands of the "opposition". btw: de "opposition" eh organized at all - not even close to the level of egypt, etc..

another noteworthy point is how de prez conveniently conflates "interests" with "values". he lumps them together as if they are one and the same when they are different. in this case, there is no national interest (as gates has stated repeatedly) but there is a value to be defended. and de value that is being defended - roughly that america is not the type of country to stand by in the face of a massacre. *cough* *congo* *cough*. ah have a feeling that definition of massacre gorn change depending on who getting killed and who doing de killing.

anyway, canada get a pips while congress get blank. it seem like de UN is de new instrument of legitimacy. lets see how de funding situation go work out....

Generally, well said...

Looking at at Man United vs. Chelsea from 1994 on FSC.
It's great to see these old sides.
Young Giggs, young Keane, Bruce, Pallister, Sparky, The Guvnor, Scmeichel, Kanchelskis and of course, King Cantona.
Memories...

thank you! i love to see Peter in goal. Great keeper

edit: LOL Chelsea get 4

That team in particular was a favourite of mine. I remember Ferguson saying that this was a team of warriors; they could play football, and if the other team wanted to mix it up, they could do that as well. This team also showed Ferguson's skill at transitions. Keane and Giggs were the bridge to the team(s) that came after.

Student basketball star suspended for pre-marital sex

A university in the US state of Utah has suspended a star basketball player for having pre-marital sex with his girlfriend in violation of the school's strict "honour code".

Brandon Davies was dropped after admitting the transgression to staff at Brigham Young University (BYU).

His team, ranked 3rd in the nation in college basketball, went on to lose against an unranked team on Wednesday.

The BYU honour code requires students to be "chaste and virtuous".

BYU officials have defended the decision after the news was first reported by the Salt Lake Tribune, saying that students are fully aware of the rigorous code, and often choose the school because of it.

"We live this. This is who we are," said Tom Holmoe, BYU athletic director.

The Utah-based university is run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as the Mormon church. All students agree to abide by the honour code, which reflects Mormon values.

The code includes prohibitions on drinking, smoking, drugs, tea, coffee, swearing and sex, as well as a commitment regularly to attend church.

Mr Davies suspension has garnered headlines across the country because it comes at the beginning of the prestigious NCAA tournament - a nationwide contest for university teams, often called "March Madness".

The BYU team, the Cougars, were set to enter as first seed.

Mr Davies has reportedly apologised to his teammates.

In America, honour codes are mostly associated with military academies, but a number of universities, including the University of Virginia and Princeton, also enforce them.

Northwestern University sex toy show 'disturbing'

Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro Mr Schapiro pledged to investigate and to clarify what teaching methods were appropriate

A US university president has said he is "disturbed" that a psychology professor allowed a demonstration of a motorised sex toy in a lecture hall.

Morton Schapiro of Northwestern University called the decision to allow a naked woman to demonstrate use of the device last month "poor judgement".

About 100 students observed the proceedings following a lecture session for a class on human sexuality.

Attendance was voluntary and students had been warned what to expect.

On 21 February, psychology professor Michael Bailey held a lecture on sexual arousal, with a focus on certain aspects of female physiology, according to a statement he released on Wednesday.

Prof Bailey said another guest lecturer, Ken Melvoin-Berg, had proposed the demonstration and he could not think of a legitimate reason why the students should not have that opportunity in the name of inquiry.

"Student feedback for this event was uniformly positive," Prof Bailey said.

The demonstrator, Faith Kroll, told the Chicago Tribune she enjoyed the attention.

"I was more than happy to," she said. "We had fun with it. I'm an exhibitionist."

On Thursday, Mr Schapiro said in a statement it was in the nature of a university to teach and research controversial topics.

But he said the demonstration "represented extremely poor judgement on the part of our faculty member" and said he was "troubled and disappointed".

"I simply do not believe this was appropriate, necessary or in keeping with Northwestern University's academic mission," he said.

He promised an investigation and to clarify "what constitutes appropriate pedagogy".

Carrick was always boring.  Well polished baller with good technique...but nothing special physically and very little individual expression

Players like Carrick highlight the fact that CR did so much for Man U's attack by drawing so many opposing players to him that he created room for average players like Carrick to spread the ball around and look decent.  Look at Carrick in the England set up...booo...nada....

Ever since CR left players like Carrick have been exposed as just about average.  Gifted players who have more than they can teach in a clinic...like Scholes, Rooney, Nani, Berba and Giggs all stepped up with CR left...the others just remained role players

Modric would be a great target for Utd...a polished central defender with good feet like David Luiz (not yet polished but good feet) for e.g. would also be a good long term buy.  Smalling is a good player but he is not Man Utd central defensive calibre.

I disagree about Smalling. He WILL make it. He seems to have the nerves necessary, unlike Evans. All he needs is experience and blooding alongside killers like Vidic and Rio. He cannot ask for a better education right now.

I ALWAYS thought Carrick was average, CR7 or not.
