Football / Football In Brooklyn (New York City)
« on: November 10, 2009, 10:55:41 PM »
Hello All,

My friend is currently trying to start up a club and/or academy in New York (In particular Brooklyn).

He has an already established football company in Maryland and Miami.

However, I informed him that there is a lot of talented players in New York that grieve for quality football programs but is deprived the opportunity. So I recommended to him to look at Brooklyn to take his business.

Recognizing that Brooklyn is a under served community, my goal is to help him make the right connection to start the process of establishing a proper club and/or academy where players can reap the benefits of what his company has to offer (i.e. quality coaches, college opportunities, local tours, fun and learning environment)

Having said that, I need some help getting some background information on how football is structured and ran in New York City?

In addition, the answers to these questions would also help :

(1) Is field space an issue and is it expensive to rent?
(2) What leagues are out there?
(3) What age group do they start playing competitive football?
(4) Is it expensive?
(5) What leagues do players compete in?

If you know anyone who knows more about the structure of football in brooklyn and more so New York City, please send me a PM. Please direct any questions/concerns to me personally as well.

Thanks

Leon off to Birmingham
W Connection take on Joe Public tonight
By: Ian Prescott

W Connection will be without stalwart defensive midfielder Clyde Leon tonight when they take on new Digicel Pro League champions Joe Public in a match which will decide the 2009 Pro League Big Six champs.

Leon, 26, is currently in England having a one-week trial at Premier League club Birmingham City.

W Connection owner David John Williams confirmed that the Trinidad and Tobago midfielder was in England and said the trial was arranged due to a relationship between Birmingham manager Alex McLeish and his club.

"Clyde has a wonderful opportunity," John Williams said. "It's up to him to make the best of it."Â

But even without Leon, W Connection are expected to be formidable opponents when they take on Joe Public from 7 p.m. at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva in the battle for the Big Six title.

Going into the final match, both teams are level on ten points, but Joe Public have a better goal difference. A draw will be enough for Joe Public to clinch the Big Six, while W Connection must win to steal the honours.

The match is of greater significance to W Connection (44 points), who are also battling former Pro League champions San Juan Jabloteh (45 points) and Caledonia AIA of Morvant-Laventille (44 points) for second place in the Pro League.

Along with new champs Joe Public, the Pro League runners-up will qualify to contest the 2010 Caribbean Club Championship, which is a qualifier for the CONCACAF Champions League.

Reigning Caribbean Club champs W Connection were unlucky last week when just failing to reach the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League.

And the other contenders for second-place in the Pro League will also be in action tonight.

Currently second, Jabloteh face a difficult Ma Pau team at Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, while Caledonia AIA entertain Defence Force at Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

I so pissed watching this game.

Pumas sent a 2nd string team to play Comunicaciones and the two goals they conceded looked too soft. One was actually a legit deflection (at least it looked so).

I hope Pumas win this game.

That was the worst Refereeing I have seen in a long time, hard to believe he is from USA. Had he referee that game the same way in favour of W Connection in Central or South America they would have surely stoned him...

Can't blame the referee. W-Connection are the ones to blame.

Was it the referee fault that allowed such an easy first goal? That was absolutely poor defending. Primary school mistakes. BTW, almost ALL american referees would have called that penalty. Trust me when I tell you that.

If W-Connection had played well, and created/capitalize on all their opportunities they would have won the game.

It is very good that two PFL teams made it to the group stage. But when W Connection looses to a team like Comunicaciones (with all due respect, but their better days are behind them) then it leaves me thinking a lot of things?

Well I hope both PFL teams don't finish bottom of the table. That will be an embarrassment.

Anyone could comment on how James look? maybe we could play him at rb and play carlos or tinto on the left and have jlloyd at left back?

James solid as usual. He deserves to be in the Trinidad and Tobago back line. Oh well, good things come to those who wait. Patience King James.

On the topic of "rewarding indiscipline," take a look at the highlights of the 1st game between Cali and W Connection (there are two video highlights, look at the one on top). Look at the very end of the highlights in the game and see what happened. Mind you, these are the players that suppose to provide inspiration to our country.  :-\

Cali VS W. Connection

Kingman

were you talking about the tackle? and de cali player just ran off the field not knowing if he was dealt a yellow or red...

Yes, that is what I am talking about.

Your team is 3 goals down with a time left on the clock in a knock out game. Radanfah Abu Bakr looked for the easiest way out of the humiliating defeat (i.e. a two foot tackle from behind which we automatically know is a yellow or red). Instead of showing some character and pride and fighting to the very end, Abu not only put his team into further trouble (thus not giving them a chance to come back) but his body language showed that he did not even care. Now that is the part that bothers me the most. Absolutely mind boggling.

Kingman,
I watched the video and I did not see anything out of the extraordinary. What we looking for????

If you don't know what to look for there, then I cannot help further.

You guys could say what alyuh want, James is a good center back.

If he plays in a low division and thus questioning his selection on the National team, so does almost every other player we have. Because if you guys did not realize most of our players play in the 2nd and 3rd division in England and Scotland, PFL and USL (which in short can sum up to more or less the same level).

On the topic of "not ready" for international level, so to is a lot of players on our present national team. However, that is what we have and that is what we work with. Players on our present national team defense makes the same mistakes and even more crucial mistakes than James. So what you'll point?

James, hope you get your confidence level back to where it was. All the best kid!

Jabloteh beat Tempete 2-1.

I got to the game when the 2nd half started, so Idont kno the Jab scorers.

The little I saw didnt impress me with Jab....both wingbacks (John and Williams) looked ordinary...Oliver looked good, and Guerra when he was on...

Hector Sam came on and looked really out of it. he isnt as fast anymore and really didnt look match fit.

W Connection looked a better organised bunch and were playing well in the first 20 mins. Farias got their 1st goal, heading in a ball,  after a William Oliveria shot. He also got the second goal with a loopin header from a corner, that was misjudged by the defender.

Hughton Hector looked good, and was very willing to make runs going foward.

Kern Cupid put in a good shift. Did Nicholson Thomas get called by Latas? Because he is behind Cupid for that position....

Marvin Phillip was solid, but needs to work on distribution

Pacheco played at left back, but is veryyy slow, he take care of the ball better than our current LB, but lacks pace.

Thanks!

Not sure what is the reason for him leaving United Petrotrin but the Eastern Lions are delighted to have him on board.

Could it be he could be back on the national team if he does ? Just asking

He always was on the national team. And summoned by Latapy for the June 6th clash as a United Petrotrin player as well.

didnt he jus go by the oil men?

Yes, he did. But last minute reconsideration I guess.

I was told right after the USA game, from a inside source, that Wolfe cursed Latas. When I saw that his name was not included in the local base players I was not surprised.

Maybe he (Wolfe) apologized to Latas, hence the reason why he is back in the squad.

We have been saying this years now, the TTFF finally wake up.

And I am glad they did. Good job on their behalf.

Some questions though.

1. If the players playing in the Pro League, will they be an official professional and wouldn't being a professional prevent them from playing on a scholarship should they get one.

2. How will the league affect their schools.

3. Will they be paid.

4. What do the parents think.

From my understanding, it would not affect their eligibility for scholarships. This is so because the U-20 team is not a professional entity and players would not be signed to contracts.

This is an opportunity for the boys to play together and get as much as possible going into the U-20 World Cup.

Steups. Sancho, boy...
With all due respect! andrews is a far better defender than sancho and he's great going forward.

Which Andrews? Lyndon "chubby" Andrews? Because Marvin Andrews is a laborer. He is a good defender; Wins head balls, 50-50 challenges and intimidating in the back. But good going forward? Without the ball right? Like for offensive free kicks and corners?

Sancho is a better ball handler than Marvin.

Stephen Crookshain is 1 of the 12 players on trials. He played with the Cleveland team 2 years ago when they were in the USL 2.

Kingman

Where he was in de interim? He went and finish school or wha?

From my understanding, he had a severe groin/or ankle injury that saw him out of action of almost the entire 2008 TT Pro League season. I believe he was attached with St. Anns Rangers nevertheless.

Cleveland adds Joe Public's McAllister
Source:- Cleveland City Stars News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland City Stars have signed midfielder Terrence McAllister after the Trinidad native's standout performance during February's international invite-only combine. McAllister joins the club from Trinidad's Joe Public, a participant in the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League. The deal is pending USL and USSF approval.

The combine was the first of its kind in the City Stars three year history and the benefits have been proven by the signing of McAllister.

"The signing of a player out of the invite combine is a success and we only hope to continue to build the program over the next few years," said Cleveland City Stars General Manager Mark Geissbauer. "Terrence brings some international experience and has played at a high level. We're really looking for him to play a big part in what we're doing this year, both on and off the field."

McAllister came to Cleveland with no expectations, looking only to make a positive impression on the coaching staff.

"Heading into the tryouts I had confidence in my ability but I didn't necessarily anticipate being signed," said McAllister. "I knew I would give it my best and if I was what the coaching staff was looking for, then I would be chosen."

The 24-year old has represented his country as a member of the Trinidad and Tobago U-17, U-20 and senior national teams. McAllister received 23 caps for the U-17 team and five caps with the U-20 team before being called up to the senior national team in January of 2008 where he started in a 2-1 defeat of Guyana.

McAllister has played professionally since 2002 with Joe Public FC in Trinidad and was a member of the club that defeated the MLS New England Revolution in the CONCACAF Champions League in September of 2008, but only saw action in the final two games of the Group Phase against Atlante (Mexico) and Olimpia (Honduras).

"I believe this is a great opportunity for me. I always wanted to play professionally outside of Trinidad and now that I will be getting that opportunity it is very exciting," said McAllister. "Joe Public was a wonderful organization to work for so I will miss the team and I hope to make them proud. I think there will be many players in Trinidad looking to me and other Trinidadian players who have recently signed with international teams as positive examples."

McAllister had been on the radar of the City Stars front office for some time, and when he became a free agent in 2009, McAllister was quickly invited to the combine.

"I knew about Terrence going in to the combine," said CCS Head Coach Underwood. "I had talked to some people that I trusted and they highly recommended him. He came in during that week and really lived up to expectations."

McAllister will look to build upon his success at the combine when he arrives in Cleveland this week to begin training with the club for the 2009 season.

from centerlinesoccer

"Ancil Farrier, Junior Burgos, Chris Williams, and Leland Wright are no longer with the team. I have not been able to confirm a rumor that Farrier was offered a deal and turned it down [from kingman in this thread]. The bottom line however is that he is not a candidate going forward, and based on the admittedly few times that I saw him, it’s not a massive loss. He’s a decent player mind you, but not the kind that would have made a huge difference this season."

Even if its not money Kingman, you have to creep before you walk.

Ancil should have more ambition, simple because,,,, even if he cant make the starting team for San Jose Earthquakes, he should have de ambition to break through one day. Work hard and claim his place on the starting team and not look for some other SMALLER team to make his name.

Brent Rahim made the same mistake.

Sam, you hit the nail on the head. I totally agree with you.

Football / Re: Yohance Marshall on trial with LA Galaxy
« on: March 05, 2009, 08:57:56 AM »
Reports out of the LA camp have it that Yohance was offered a developmental contract for the 2009 season.

Kingman

Explain more nah ?

How exactly does a developmental contract works and did he accept ?

Ok, there is "Developmental" and "Developmental International." Its the same thing but obviously as the name implies, one is for International players.

"Developmental International" contracts are contracts offered to younger international players on MLS teams. These players are usually young international players out of college.

All MLS teams have a certain number of international spots on their roster. However, teams usually leave those spots open for International players that have very good playing experience and National team experience. Therefore, when teams come across talented youth international players, they offer them "Developmental International" contracts. In this way, they would not occupy senior international spots.

All "Developmental International" contracts last 1 year. A team can opt to renew it at the end of that particular season pending the player progress. If it is renewed, it is renewed as "Senior Developmental." However, if they think the player is worthy enough they will let him fill an international spot. In this case his status moves from "Developmental International" to "International."

I hope this explains things a little better.

As for whether he accepted the contract, I am not totally sure.

On a different note Sam, a little bird now pass and drop a message for me  ;D
I was told the reason why some individuals watch and ridicule others salary income, is because they themselves earn relatively low income and feel better when others around them earn the same.  :rotfl:

Some men on this forum; talk about immaturity. Jessan ages!!!   ::) Anyways, moving along.

Head coach of San Jose Earthquakes, Frank Yallop, in his meeting with Ancil Farrier, told him that he wants him on the team but didn't predict he will be playing a lot this season. His agent then called and had further talks about the season and where Ancil will fit in. After careful consideration, both Ancil and his Agent thought it would be in his (Ancil) best interest to find a club where he is going to play a lot this season.  Since Ancil's main ambition is to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the National Senior level on a consistent level, he thinks it very important for him to get as much playing time as possible. San Jose officially reserves Ancil's "rights" and will be sending him to another outfit.

Rest assure, those who care that much  ;D, that money was not the reason that fuel his decision.
