An important step towards
a successful future
The bitter first-round defeat at EURO 2000 was the key moment: at the turn of the millennium German football stared
disaster in the face – it completely lacked a professional foundation. What followed was a revolution in youth development,
which, on the tenth anniversary of the academies, is now globally recognised as the role model for success.
Elan: excerpt from a document I'm reading from the German Federation. Could share with you if you are interested.

Football / Re: Football alert — watch for Shaquell Moore
« on: December 02, 2011, 10:47:52 AM »
In my honest opinion Wendell's son did the right thing in playing for the US at this point. TT football has to have it's house in order. Yes we use foreign born players, but on a vay-ki-vay basis. I don't know how they go about looking at foreign born players. We have Cameron Roget, how did this come about. But there is Deleon, Moore, Ranjitsigh fella from Canada. There is also a kid with Tobago parents from Maryland who is in Germany, Shaquille Phillips. And there are some we don't even know about. Right now we take almost all the foreign born girls because we lack good local girls who have experience. But if our local girls improve, we probably will use less and less foreign-born.

One thing is, we not seeing some of these foreign born regularly. Is mostly video tapes and snippets from youth and college games. I just happen to looking for a game on fox and saw the Big East with young Deleon. I think he is one we should pursue. I just feel Dilly son should play for TT. Just like if Latas or Dwight sons should do the same. But it don't always work out that way.  The foreign-born then have to come home and try out. It hard for yutes from Erin,Moruga, Bago to come to Ttini to tryout. What allyuh expect from  kids from LA, TO, Chicago, etc?
Add the two brothers from Raleigh,NC to the list (names not to be released yet), one already in US u-15 pool, the other 9 and at a very high standard already. T&T needs a US based training program where these players could be brought in several times a year to train under US based Trini coaches.

In T&T we have had numerous examples of the positive impact of sport on human, social and community development. For starters, hundreds of young men and women have received free tertiary education in the United States and elsewhere as a result of their sporting prowess.

A major human resource that is under-utilized, especially in football.

When we could see something like this then we know we serious.

Long read.
Elan: good piece of info you shared here (I hope people take the time to read it). I work with several of these coaches and have other colleagues(Trini) involved in this process as well. Now as we consider the suggestion about a proper development structure, I often wonder why no one wants to take a serious look at the methods used in the US. There are so many Trinidian coaches making significant contributions to the overall development of the game in the US who could share with T&T a way forward. Men and women who are involved in the game as coaches ; coaching educators and administrators at every level of the game and no one is even considering a consultation with any of them. If a country the size of the US can create a development system (it's not perfect) that allows them to produce teams that dominate our CONCACAF region, how is it T&T cannot put a system in place. One is almost tempted to ask JA, Bermuda and Grenada et al what they have been doing?

"I dont think, without bigger private sector sponsorship that we can employ a big name coach like Pfister for 4 years so don't be too quick to discard our own especially when Jamal Shabaaz out coached Pfister. "
Really? In modern football no one out-coaches another...it either one team is better than the other based on available players or the fullness of preparation be it physical/tactical or mental preparation.
I'm reading all these comments and I think many are failing the recognize that success at this level requires many pieces of the puzzel to be well constructed. Why the persistance in making assessments based on results only? Many factors can cotribute to the final outcome of a match and sometimes it has very little to do with the coach.

The primary goal of Trinidad football should be to develop as many players as possible who are capable of playing in as many top flight clubs around the world. That can be a realistic and quantifiable goal, you cannot consistantly try to persue world cup qualifying in a 4 year cycle as have been done in the past. The other area of development that is even more vital is the coaching. You must have better coaches who are educating themselves at the highest levels globally in order to improve the depth of the talent pool. Taking a course in Trinidad is not sufficent for a coaches development, beacuse the game has to be observed through many different lenses and perspectives. Our coaches have to get off the island and out of their little "know it all" comfort zone and learn from other people from around the football world; they'll discover some different philosophy and methodology abouth coaching and player development as well as discover that they are doing some of the same things that others are doing. In a recent Academy Director's Course I learned that Spain has more qualified coaches at the highest levels ( UEFA B, A & Pro license) than any other country in the world and the higher the badge the more Spain has. This was suprising as not many of these courses are offered in Spain...there coaches are going out of their country to take courses. Trinidad system of selection for opportunities also has to be disbanded, anyone who wants to take a course should be able to register once they meet the course level pre -requisits...stop labeling and discrediting and alienating other coaches from opportunities to make a contribution because they are not in your inner circle! Qualifying for the World Cup will be a by product of a proper sustainable development system of coaches and players.

There is much validity to dress code and simple distractions that can make a difference in individual and team performance. Much of the discussion I read tends to focus on one aspect of the football, however, there seems to be a lack of understanding the comprehensive and complex pieces that must all be aligned in order to have sustained performance levels and successes. Look at this story and hear a well respected US College Football coach saying his team did not perform up to standard because the players were distracted by the release of a new video game. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Charlie-Strong-has-seen-the-enemy-and-its-name-?urn=ncaaf-wp9871
One would thing that these things are minor and probably have nothing to do with how a player or team will perform, sorry to say every little detail must be taken into consideration in terms of preparation and mental preparation is often times more critical to success than the physical or technical/tactical.
Having said that, we cannot overlook the issues of conduct across the board from top to bottom Trinidad Football is suffering for the following reasons:1. Compromise, 2. Unprofessionalism, 3. Lack of Dignity and Self Respect, 4. Accountability - both personal and collective, 5. Leadership/Vision.

Lower St. John, CK1 and president

Boss replies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody here remeber how Stern John act under Hannibal Najjar, I doubt he woulda act so under a foreign coach. What about St Clair vs Dwarika and Anton Corneal and Ricky Shakes...... them locals small minded.....

Everybody here would be happy to see Dennis lawrence coaching Wigan and Latapy coaching Falkirk, but they have a problem with a foreign coach...

Look how good Stephen hart doing with Canada.

Judge on merit, not passport...
a tie against Puerto rico in the qualifiers will cost him his job. after this rounds hart will be repalced if Canada wants to get to the hex ..wrl cup is outof the question.. I cya see Canada beating jamaica, TNT , USA, Mexico , honduras, Costa Rica ,
war
What is your basis for making that statement? Very often we think the issues with a team's performance solely lies with the coach. If Hart does a good enough job to get Canada to the hex, why would he not be retained to take them to the WC. At that stage of qualifying do you think it's just the coach's ability or in ability that makes the difference? There are so many factors that go into the wholeness of a team's performance over time that any one of the other teams on this list could fall apart: with any injuries to key players on any of these teams could spell disaster because their player pools are not very deep when it comes to quality. Add climatic conditions to the equation along with player availability and preparation support, Canada has as good a chance as any of these teams.

There is an agent on the USA list who is a Trinidadian and there are several others who have ties to Trinidad. Proper research is important before making statements that appear to be factual.
As Coops mentioned, the agent is not just responsible for finding a club and contract, but they are also running a business and can't waste time and resources on players who don't have the personal determination to handle the demands of making a living as a professional athlete. What I think most of our players don't quite understand is the global football market relative to "talent" and what it takes to become a player in demand for their services. The other issue is the understanding of what it means to be a "professional" in any field...talent alone is not good enough. The agent has to be careful to protect his name and reputation or his business will fail along with the players who fail to make the grade that he recommends them for.

To be honest coops, no local coach is ready to coach our national senior team, NONE !!!!!!!

Anton is one of the instructors on the "C" lisence course BECAUSE THE TTFF put him there it does not mean he deserve to be there.
      The thing is who does?
Well I inquired about taking the instructor course and was told that only those selected by the TTFF could do it. The reason I inquired was because I have experience in coaching education area and could learn some more as well as share from my own experiences. Anton may be the most qualified on the island but not necessarily the most qualified "TRINI".

Understand your point. However for those in the know, although Rougier was the coach of FC Southend, one of the reasons he was not the official Head Coach is because he had no coaching certification which the Pro League requires. This is why men like De Leon were named Head Coach although Rougier was coaching de side.Rougier was de Technical Director, now he can officially be de Head Coach.
What level of coaching certification/qualifications does the Pro League require to coach a team in their league and is there a preferred Coaching Education Institution (local or international) ?

So Casillas basically has all the silverware possible except the Confederations Cup... let's say player of the decade was measured from 2002 to 2011... he still won't get it?
I would simply say that as good as he has been and the many great GK before him...no real football fans go to stadiums to see goalkeepers although we appreciate their performances. Men looking forward to see players on the field doing magic...Rhonaldino; Kaka; Zidane; Messi; Eto....that's who the fans want to see so that's why Casillas can't win this award. Many have also debated over who is the greatest player ever...Pele/Maradona...Beckenbaur and other great, accomplished players don't even enter that discussion nor does Gordon Banks nor Yasin. Maybe there should be a separate catageory for goalkeepers...then your boy could get a bligh, but he'll have some serious competition from Khan; Buffon; Bartez; Van Der Sarr et al.

Now is the perfect time for the players to come together and make a united stand. There is no real football to be played and the new coach say he not interested in experimenting in friendlies...so if the players say they not playing until all financial matters have been satisfactorily rectified he'll have no players to select. This is an opportunity for the players to use the new coach to take a stand as well...he have a lot of experience with those African players who don't make joke when it comes to their federation paying them. Supporters of the team can make a stand too...don't show up for any games untill the players' financial issues are setteled!!!

Them fellas like it so...they rather accept victimization now than stand up for themselves and receive it later...smh
That's easier said than done.... Imagine you're a younger player trying to establish yuhself, yuh think yuh saying anything?  I'm not saying it is right but knowing yuh need the caps to be seen, yuh will sleep with the devil to accomplish yuh goals....  Just saying..........
That is the essence of all that is wrong with football in Trinidad. The Head is corrupt therefore all who follow have become corrupt as well...he is right, there will be nothing that goes right when this kind of victimization goes on. You cant beat the  if you are willing to sleep with him >:(    have no respect for anyone who is afraid to stand up for righteousness. Come on people, all this talk about new coach and assistant coach and list of eligible players is a slap in the face of those 13 men who gave all they could to make this country proud at the WC. Forget the caps and all that  and the TTFF is a blood sucking entity that destroying the lives and hope of a football-loving nation.
My senior year in college the administration proposed to drop the soccer program because of Title IX issues (many men's athletic programs were cut because of this at that time). I risked loosing my scholarship by taking a public stand against the administration (I could have kept quiet and keep my scholarship), I lead a protest against the administration which went all the way to a vote by the board iof trustees. I fought hard and many times alone, but righteousness prvailed as it always will. The board not only kept the program, they also started a women's program and after graduation I became the assistant coach. Now, I did not make a stand for myself, but for all my teamates and more importantly, the future players who would have the opportunity to get an education and play ball. Some of whom were players from my homeland and other Caribbean islands. These 13 men have the BALLS that the rest of these wimps need...these are footballers who play for their country...not SLAVES!

I noticed that most people here are sticking with a 1-4-5-1 formation. Given the attacking mentality that this side has long been missing, I feel that a 1-4-3-3 may be better suited for our team based on some of the players mentioned here.

                                                  GK

          Edwards                James                Cyrus                    JL Samuel

                                                Birchall

                                 Hyland                        K. Daniel

           Roberts                             Jones                                    Scottland

Bench: Jorsling; Baptise; Glenn; C. Samuel; Tinto; Thompson; Primus; Marshall; Guerra; Peltier; GK; GK (Don't really know which keeper would earn the starting spot or how deep the pool is for that position)

I always say two things American teams always develop in Trini players is fitness and workrate!

Except dat few of we players does ever last long in dey system, or even play consistently.
Our players need to take advantage of the opportunity and plan to use the MLS as a stepping stone. If these two things along with professionalism can be added to our players while they are with these clubs (not sure if they get this in the PFL), then our players can begin to think about playing in Europe. MLS should not be the end goal for any of our top players, but it can certainly be a building block.

Keon is very fortunate to have an outstanding agent who has been working tirelessly to help him reach his true potential. There is already a noticable difference in his work rate, attitude towards playing, improving his physical presence and his professional demeanor. Daniel has the potential to be a big time player, now he has an opportunity to maximise that potential with proper guidance and management in a true professional training environment.
