Football / Re: Carlos signs with Sunderland FC.
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:23:37 PM »
Steups, well with the utter mess that Newcastle played yesterday, I was expecting him to be a sure signing.

Sunderland?  Why Yorke gone and talk stupidness in Carlos head, in hopes of realizing his own (selfish) dreams of playing the in EPL again?

I support Carlos, but Sunderland under Keane, who done eh want to let go 'little' caribbean players for national duty is a disappointment.

All in all, though, I did not see the offers that were made nor heard the full circumstances as did Carlos.  Either way, I wish him the best, although I think that he is much better than Sunderland....

P.S.  Carlos, if yuh reading, doh limit yourself with that old talk about warming bench vs. playing for Sunderland.   Any team chasing you right now eh looking to put you on the bench.  They go bench Stern, Yorke, and even Latas (just ask Benhakker) but not you.

Blessings.

oh shut tuh f**k up nuh... Carlos eh no little boy he know very well wut he doin... yuh eh think he eh think this over thoroughly... buh wuh kinda chupidee yuh is boy... STEWPS.

Not only is this a needless response becuase Carlos know what he doin buh think ah de new sunderland fellahz on de board... we'd like to start a good relationship with them... this is a family forum. So stop actin like A.) Carlos is a fool and B.) like Sunderland is a sub standard club.
Jefferz take yuh head out of your father stink latrine nah - the content eh so fresh.

Read the words in bold again idiot. Who said that he was a fool?  I said that I am disappointed.  The points that I've made are valid.  Keane will pressure Carlos to leave T&T.  Yorke DOES want another shot at the premiership - which IS why he encouraged Carlos to join.

Point is, Sunderland might well make it to the Primiership, and remain at the bottom whole season.  Will that happen to Newcastle? Unlikely.

Again I did not see the Carlos' offers, but either way I am disappointed.  Having said that, as I've stated before, I wish Carlos the best.

Stern better pose a question to Keane, cause is EPL for Sunderland with Yorke, Carlos and Stern.  Hmm.... if only they add Brichall to the picture.... but then they might have to change the name of the club to Sunderland T&T.... ;)

I think I see why Newcastle is looking at Edwards...  I don't think that it's only Carlos they need though, maybe another player in the midfield would work too.

T&T people happy so they not taking it as seriously as they should... except for about 6 months before world cup as usual.  ::)

Thats the excuse of losers...no disrespect. I doubt very much if there is much deifference in the qaulity of living between footballers in Jamaica and those in Trinidad.

I'm not making any excuses.  T&T players (on every level) continue to lose because of the laissez-faire approach to everything... always a last minute - a minute ago - approach.

As far as living conditions are concerned, there is plenty difference between T&T and Jamaica - on the local player level, and I think that it drives the Jamaican players to perform down to the final whistle.  Additionally there is a level of national pride in Jamaicans that you don't find as easily inTrinis.  Previous to this World Cup T&T players would give up half way through a game - something that we saw glimses of in the first Bahrain game.  This is something that you never see Jamaica do - even when they were down by 5 against England, for example.

I think that at the current rate, if football is not taken seriously Jamaica will be in World Cup 2010, and T&T will be in ... T&T.

Roy Keane cool yuhself

Keane chases Edwards
The Daily Mail

ROY KEANE says he wants Luton winger Carlos Edwards.
But he will not be making it a hat-trick of loan signings from Manchester United after today dismissing fresh reports that Giuseppi Rossi is the latest Old Trafford starlet wanted the Stadium of Light.
Luton boss Mike Newell has confirmed that he has received three bids for Trinidad & Tobago international Edwards, and that one is close to the asking price of around £1million
The 28-year-old is quick and comfortable at right wing or full back, positions where the Black Cats have lacked cover.
Keane said this morning: "Carlos Edwards is a player that I admire and he is someone I would like to add to the squad.
"We do intend to follow up our interest but it would be premature to assume that anything will definitely happen in that direction.
"We'll have to see what Luton's position is on the matter but he is someone we're interested in, yes."
Keane has been short on right-side cover since allowing Liam Lawrence to join Stoke on loan with a view to a permanent deal. Right-backs Stephen Wright and Nyron Nosworthy have also been injured.
Edwards is a 52-times capped Trinidad & Tobago international team-mate of Sunderland's Dwight Yorke.
Born in Port of Spain, he started his career in Trinidad with Defence Force before a £125,000 switch to Wrexham in June 2000, scoring 25 goals in 157 starts for the Welsh club.
Luton took him as a summer 2005 Bosman signing and he has scored six goals this season, featuring in the Hatters' 2-1 loss at the Stadium of Light earlier this month.
Luton boss Newell said: "We've had three bids for Carlos. Two in the last week and also another phone call from another club. One is not a million miles away."
Keane is closing in on loan deals for Manchester United defensive pair Phil Bardsley and Jonny Evans, in whom he confirmed his interest a week ago, but does not want Rossi.
He said: "The name Rossi keeps coming up and I keep ruling it out. I'm happy to do so again.
"Jonny Evans looks as though he's definitely coming here. I would say that's a done deal and I'm delighted about that.
"I think he's going to be a top player for Manchester United and it's great for us that we could have someone of his potential joining us.
"He's a big strong young centre-half and he'll be a big edition to the squad.
"Phil Bardsley looks as though he could be on his way too.
"He's been up to see me and have a look at the club and that one could happen over the next few days.
"He's someone I know well from my days at Manchester United and I rate him.
"He's been out on loan to Glasgow Rangers and I understand he fell out with the manager there.
"Hopefully it will be the last manager he falls out with and he'll get on well here."
Keane has said he hopes to sign three or four players during the January transfer window.

Doh worry Keane was drunk when he made those statements.  So what does he expect to happen?  Yorke playing for him and he calling Yorke a DJ and saying that he should dump T&T and Carlos must join now?  STEUPS.
Carlos playing for Sunderland just like how Gerrard playing for them. ::)

We real hit TI for backing Hardest so strong but I from what I hear he is actually performing very well in training. Right now it the battle for the #10 is between him and Kwame.

well if dats d case den Kerwin Jemmot will be our new number 10.........Wiltshire eh dat special....

wha hardst that special , spann that special any ah we player exceptional steeps

if yuh ever see hardest play breds, u wouldnt be saying dat, even latas and nakhid and yorke know de man ability and how skillful he is, so yea he is special, some fellahs blessed with that natural ability...

I notice yuh jump straight to defend hardest ....

i dont have tuh defend hardest, his skill will defend him, his ability will do de talking, all de doubtors will be silenced in a timing....

God is de BOSS...

Not to offend, but we can't start to compare Hardest to Latapy until he does something that has the impact that Latapy has had.  Up to now people are angry over Benhakker not playing latapy in the England game.  Why is that? Because with his creativity comes crucial and meaningful impact time and time again.
He might get the #10 shirt but it will be a while before we can compare him to Latapy in any way - even to the point of Latapy 'knowing' his skills.

Do you think that it is a good idea to tear down the team and rebuilt from scratch, experimenting with inexperienced/teams while risking losses? Or do you think that a gradual build while concentrating on winning every game with the strongest team (regardless of game significance) is a better option?

mo, this is a function of the agreement negotiated between the association and the coach. if the association negotiates a long term agreement, then the coach's scope is broader and the focus can be on "rebuilding a team from scratch". given the length of time wim was signed to, he has been given alot of flexibility.

Is it worth it to risk (player and supporter) confidence in the team in order to completely rebuild - provided that we qualify for 2010?

this sounds more like a question to be directed to the ttff. after all, they are the ones that set the goals. qualifying for 2010 is a very ambitious goal - given qualification history, the available talent pool, the strength of the program. a few posters have noted a "natural" 16 year cycle of footballing talent for t&t (74, 90, 06) - empirical. qualifying for 2010 is a marked departure from this cycle.

Hmm... I never noticed the 16 year cycle.... let's hope that we do depart from it.  It will do a lot for the country's football and the country on a whole (financially at least).

Football / Wim: Predictions/Attitudes
« on: December 28, 2006, 06:00:38 PM »
I'm starting this thread to discuss confidence in our coach and the team's future.

What is Wim's current strategy for the Digicel Cup?  Does he plan to use a team of strictly local players?  Is this just going to be an audition event for the national team, or is he determined to add titles/accomplishments/global respect to the team - that is current ranked lower than SVG in FIFA's rankings?

Now for your opinions.
Do you think that it is a good idea to tear down the team and rebuilt from scratch, experimenting with inexperienced/teams while risking losses? Or do you think that a gradual build while concentrating on winning every game with the strongest team (regardless of game significance) is a better option?  Is it worth it to risk (player and supporter) confidence in the team in order to completely rebuild - provided that we qualify for 2010?

Share your thoughts.

Spann has real unfortunate happenings.  First, he didn't renew with the Japanese club, then he put off signing to a club in hopes that the WC would get him somewhere, and he never played in the World Cup. Now this.

Celtic 2-2 Dundee Utd
[/size]
Celtic came from two behind to draw with Dundee United and end 2006 unbeaten on their home soil in the Scottish Premier League.

David Robertson headed United into a surprise lead from close range after 17 minutes against the league leaders.

Collin Samuel fired home following a Barry Robson free-kick.

But Darren O'Dea headed home after a free-kick from Shunsuke Nakamura, who then chipped in a beautiful equaliser to deny United victory.

Interview: Dundee United manager Craig Levein Interview: Celtic manager Gordon Strachan

They had been 12 minutes away from recording their first win at Celtic Park since Boxing Day 1992.

Evander Sno had replaced the suspended Neil Lennon in Celtic's midfielder after the captain's sending off against Falkirk on Saturday.

United were without the injured Steven Robb, while David Goodwillie dropped to the bench as David McCracken and Grant Smith came into the starting line-up.

Nakamura drove the ball inches past the far post as Celtic carved out the first good chance.

But the visitors took the lead when Lee Mair's cross to the back post was met by Robertson, who planted his close-range header past goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Mair came to United's rescue when his perfectly-timed block tackle on Maciej Zurawski denied the Poland striker a certain equaliser.

Robson almost added to growing frustration inside Celtic Park when his curling shot from the edge of the penalty area went just a foot over the crossbar.

More woe visited the champions in the 37th minute when defender Balde injured his leg over-stretching to clear at the edge of his own box and had to be stretchered off.

The loss of the Guinean appeared to dampen the home side's enthusiasm and United started the second half with confidence.

Boruc did well to block an effort from Grant Smith before United went two ahead.

Samuel was first to react after a Robson free-kick was headed on by Garry Kenneth and Conway stabbed the ball into the six-yard box for the Trinidad & Tobago international.

Riordan was denied by an outstanding Stillie save, the United keeper diving low to his left to turn the Celtic midfielder's right-footed drive from 12 yards past the post.

But a dramatic two-minute spell brought the home side back into the game.

O'Dea knocked home a Nakamura free-kick from six yards after 78 minutes.

And the home side were level when the Japanese midfielder took a Riordan pass and floated a delightful chip from 20 yards over the despairing Stillie.

Celtic pressed hard for the winner and, in injury time, Riordan's effort from outside the box hit the post before rolling to safety with Stillie well out of his goal.
