$254 million Powerball winner steps forward in Missouri

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — A World War II veteran and his family stepped forward Monday to claim a Powerball jackpot worth more than a quarter-billion dollars, one of the largest single-ticket lottery prizes in U.S. history.

Jim Wilson II, 84, and his wife, Shirley, 79, claimed the winning prize from last Wednesday's drawing, along with their three sons.

"I was absolutely astonished," said Jim Wilson, a retired electrician who served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Africa and Europe, at an afternoon news conference. "I couldn't believe it, and still don't."

He bought the winning ticket — with the numbers 9-19-29-42-53 and a Powerball number of 17 — at a grocery store in St. Louis County. The store will get $50,000.

When the Wilsons learned they had won, they got professional financial advice before claiming the prize.

Jim Wilson II has the option of receiving $254 million in 30 payments over 29 years, or accepting a lump-sum payment worth $120 million before taxes.

The couple said they will share the money with their sons. The St. Louis family has been buying family Powerball tickets for years with the understanding that they'd share any winnings, the Missouri Lottery said.

Two sons — Bill, 53, and Jim III, 59 — lost their jobs in the past year, though Bill Wilson has found a new one. Another son, Terry, 53, said he hasn't had a vacation in 30 years and will probably go to Australia.

The couple also said they will set aside money for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Wilsons' prize is the 10th-largest single-ticket lottery prize in world history, with all 10 coming from the United States, Missouri Lottery officials said. The largest was a $365 million prize won by eight Nebraska meatpacking plant workers in February 2006.

Jokes / the real story about Cinderella
« on: March 06, 2006, 10:31:25 AM »
Cinderella

We all know how Cinderella wanted to go to the ball but her wicked
stepmother wouldn't let her, and then the fairy godmother pops up
and gives Cinderella some good news:

The fairy godmother tells Cinderella that she will provide for her
everything she needs to go to the ball, but only on 2 conditions.

Cinderella asks what she needs to do and the fairy godmother replies,
"First, you must wear a diaphragm." Cinderella's mouth drops open
and says, "You must be crazy! I'm on the pill, and I don't need to
wear a diaphragm." The fairy godmother reminds Cinderella about all
the handsome princes that will be attending the ball that night, and
Cinderella agrees to wear a diaphragm.

"Well, what's the second condition?" Cinderella asked.

The fairy godmother replies, "You must be back home at 2:00 AM.

Well, Cinderella explains that if she's gonna go party with the
princes, she wants to be out all night long. The fairy godmother
tells Cinderella that if she's not home by 2AM, then her diaphragm
will turn into a pumpkin and reminds her that at least she'll be
with the princes most of the evening, so Cinderella agrees to be home
at 2AM.

At 2AM, Cinderella doesn't show up...3AM, no Cinderella...4AM, no
Cinderella...finally, at 5AM, Cinderella shows up at the door with a
huge grin on her face.

The fairy godmother stands up and looks at Cinderella and says,
"Where the hell have you been? Your diaphragm was supposed to turn into
a pumpkin 3 hours ago!!!"

Cinderella tells the fairy godmother that she met a prince and he took
care of it for her. The fairy godmother wonders about a prince with
this type of power and asks Cinderella his name to which she replies,

"I can't remember, but it was Peter Peter something or other.

Jokes / Killing me
« on: March 05, 2006, 01:23:55 PM »
One day Superman was feeling a bit horny. So, he began to ask his
superhero friends for ideas on where he could get a
bit of action. "Hey Batman! Who's good in the sack?"
"Well Superman, everyone knows that Wonderwoman is the best sex in
comicland. Why don't you try her?", replied Batman.
"I'd love to, but Wonderwoman and I are friends. So I don't really want
 to take advantage of her."
"Damn shame," said Batman as he waved good-bye to Superman and drove
 off.

Ten minutes later Superman was flying low over a city when he saw the
Green Lantern patching up a building. He flew
down. "Hey Hal ,I'm looking for a little action. You're a swinging
bachelor, who's the best babe in comicland?"
"Hey, Superman! Everyone knows that Wonderwoman is far and away the
best
lay in comicland, why don't you try her?"
"Well, we're sort of friends," Superman said, "but I didn't realize she
had gotten around so much" and he flew off in
 frustration.

Twenty minutes later he was flying over a field when he saw Wonderwoman
lying naked, in the middle of the field, with
her legs apart and up in the air.
Superman was tempted. "Goddamn it!" he thought to himself, "I'm faster
than a speeding bullet, I can be in and out of
there before she even knows I'm here." So with a blur and a sonic boom
he was down, in and gone.

Wonderwoman stared up into the sky with a dazed expression. "What the
 hell was that??!!" she exclaimed.
"I don't know," said the Invisible Man as he rolled off, "But my ass is
 killing me.
