Footballer claims he was chased by a ghost
If you asked a policeman about the excuses people use, they would probably tell you that they have heard them all.

But a Peruvian footballer looks like he might have come up with a completely new one.

Carlos 'Kukin' Flores, a midfield star with Inti Gas Deportes, told police he was being chased by a ghost when he was stopped for running naked through the streets.

Flores, who in the past has admitted to having issues with cocaine, eventually admitted that he had been "engaging with dirty ladies" and that he came up with the ghost line to try and hide the truth from his wife.

Flores said: "I didn't want my wife to be suspicious about ladies so I just told her it was a ghost. She failed to believe me."

The midfielder also denied the incident had anything to do with his previous cocaine problems, he added: "This was nothing like that. I just had a bad day."

betting companies in the UK do not care where you are based when actually making the bet, the important part is the setting up of the account itself. You could always get a friend to place the bet for you.

France not seeded !
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/feedarticle/8837091

CAPE TOWN, Dec 2 (Reuters) - France, World Cup winners in 1998 and finalists in 2006, missed out on a place in the eight top seeds for Friday's draw, announced by FIFA on Wednesday.
FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke told a news conference the decision had been based on the world rankings and had no connection with the controversy over France's infamous "handball" goal against Ireland.
The top seeds are hosts South Africa, holders Italy, Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.
France are left as the most dangerous floating team who could be drawn in the same group as any one of the top eight seeds.
The draw for the finals, being staged in South Africa from June 11 to July 11, will be made in a 90-minute television spectacular starting at 1700 GMT on Friday.
The 32 teams will be drawn into four groups of eight. Apart from the seeds, teams will be placed in pots which will largely avoid teams from the same continent meeting each other.
Pot 1 will comprise the eight top seeds with South Africa already sure to play in Group A and in the opening match at Johannesburg's Soccer City stadium on June 11.
The second pot will comprise eight teams from Asia, North and Central America and Oceania -- Australia, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, North Korea, South Korea and United States.
The third pot will be the five other African countries and three remaining South American nations -- Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The final pot is made up of the eight remaining teams from Europe -- Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
Valcke said there had been an agreement within the organising committee to base the seedings on the FIFA world rankings for October.
He said this had been done with the agreement of UEFA president Michel Platini of France who was very keen, for the sake of fairness, for it to be done when European teams had all played the same number of qualifying games.
Valcke said this agreement pre-dated the infamous play-off in Paris when France scored an equaliser against Ireland after Thierry Henry had blatantly handled before setting up the William Gallas goal which put France into the finals.
There had been some media speculation that France might be "punished" by FIFA after widespread protests at the result from Ireland and beyond.
The decision on how the seedings and pot grouping work means that the seeded teams would most fear being drawn into a group which included the United States from pot two, Ivory Coast from pot three and France from pot four

maybe FIFA should explain how they decided to change the process for qualifying when they suddenly realised that Portugal and France could end up not qualifying

I don't see what the big deal over this is, since the playoffs for the 2006 WC were seeded, too:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA_play-off)

Or did FIFA initially say that the draw would be random, and then change it to a seeded one?

yes they decided to change the rules on 29th September

"The draw for the European World Cup play-offs was held in Zürich on 19 October 2009. FIFA announced on 29 September 2009 that it would introduce a seeding system. Many of the second seeded teams felt cheated by FIFA. The eight teams in the draw were divided into two pots of four; France were seeded along with Greece, Portugal and Russia, while Ireland were unseeded, alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Ukraine. Ireland were drawn to play France, with the first of their two games to be played in Ireland on 14 November 2009.The way the seeding process was handled led some to claim at the time that UEFA had changed the rules half-way through to favour to the higher profile teams like France and Portugal, preferring them to qualify over smaller nations"

Palos you say they still had to win their games but the difference is without seeding France could have played Portugal then one of them would defintely have gone out of the world cup whereas with seeding then they both had a chance to go through.

I love how men telling Ireland to forget it and move on yet daily men talking about 1974!
Imagine if the goal Bahrain score against us when de ball get kick out of Jack hands had stand..............fells would still be talking about it today!

By the way I saw an interesting view on Sky sports that Ireland does not expect to get an extra spot but is trying to make it as uncomfortable for FIFA as possible so that something is done about bringing in video replays.

There was a moment late in the second half when Armand Traoré tried to body-check Drogba off the ball as they came together on the left flank. The full-back simply bounced off and ended up on the turf: that was Arsenal's afternoon in one moment. They barely laid a finger on Chelsea.

hence why I find it so annoying when the big ox falls down so much

Henry did the right thing, if the ref don't blow the whistle play on. He is not the ref. he is the French Captain.

What you expect him to do infront of goal.. stop? walk up to ref and say "hi ref the ball bounced of my hand blow ur whistle please it's an Irish free kick"

The honesty of it all is, France won the tie in Ireland and outplayed them in Paris.

Henry did the right thing by cheating ? interesting view I must say and if you if you think France outplayed them in Paris you are very deluded.
ps France is my second team

Chile OK for World Cup after club backs down
By Soccernet staff

Chile's spot at the 2010 World Cup is safe after a local club withdrew legal action that had drawn the ire of FIFA and put the nation's status in international football at risk.

Chile's World Cup dream is intact.

FIFA had given Chile's football association (ANFP) 72 hours to make Rangers drop a court case that disputed their relegation from the Clausura championship, or else risk a FIFA suspension and the prospect of forfeiting their World Cup berth.

Rangers took action after they were docked three points for fielding one too many foreign players under the Clausura's 6+5 rule. This consigned them to automatic relegation, but their dispute caused the play-offs for relegation and promotion, plus the championship's semi-finals, to be put on hold.

FIFA strictly forbids any government or civil interference in football matters, and wrote to ANFP demanding the situation be resolved. This ultimatum has proved enough for administration-struck Rangers to back down.

"Following the arrival of the FIFA communique, the creditors ... called on me to withdraw the case filed in the courts of justice in order not to prejudice the club," the club's administrator Cristian Herrera told the Chilean CDF channel.

Fans of Chile, who qualifiied for South Africa 2010 after finishing second behind Brazil in the CONMEBOL zone, will be relieved that what appeared to be a long-shot bid by Rangers to stay in the top division won't jeopardise their first World Cup finals campaign in 12 years.

FIFA's letter to ANFP president Harold Mayne-Nicholls had warned of the possible consequences if the action was not withdrawn.

"We beseech your association to call on your affiliated club ... to withdraw the case it took to the Chilean courts of justice within the next 72 hours or ... announce the pertinent sanctions against your affiliated club," a FIFA letter sent to Chile's Football Association (ANFP) said.

"If your association does not adopt the necessary measures as we have indicated, the case will be put to FIFA's executive committee in its session of Dec. 3, 2009 in Cape Town... so it considers imposing a suspension against (the ANFP)," the letter said.

Football / Re: The debate for goal line technology
« on: November 26, 2009, 03:22:50 AM »
What FIFA refuse to comment on is post match video analysis with penalties attached. They can do this easily and would soon change behaviour on the pitch. If players knew that after a game evidence could be reviewed watch how quickly beahviour would change. As much as instinct plays a part (according to Henry) if he knew that after the game the incident could be subject to review and then lets say he was banned for 5 games (international games) I am sure it would change the behaviour or at least to after the handball going to the ref and saying "look nah fren I did hans de ball day" (in a french accent of course).

It would not change all behaviour but it would surely be a start..... it means too much these days with too much money involved .....I still vex with crouch for pulling Sancho hair :-)
