Wrong! Donovan is one of the quickest players in CONCACAF. He has quick feet, accleration and extended pace & he has a quick mind. [/quote]

keypoint and reason why he is one of the top players in the region.

And the American players... who could blame them for being so confident against us in the one-on-one?  Wha'is de worst could happen if dey fack up?  Two, three passes and they getting de ball back... guaranteed because we cyah do one ass with it.

Bakes it sad, true and kinda funny way yuh put it dey. Feel them boy need to be limited to 2 touches in practice from now on.  Even so way they played last night some might need a calculator to even figure out how to do that.
same mistakes everytime ball watching, poor marking, terrible first touch, no movement.  But hey we have more skill and talent ent.  Swear some peeps feel TT have a monopoly on talent in concacaf.

Football / Re: What made Arthur Suite's ASL so Successful?
« on: March 31, 2009, 04:30:59 PM »
Excerpted from

The Story of T&T Football
By Valentino Singh

Suriname beat the National team 3-2 but lost 1-0 to ASL Sports. English team Arsenal won against ASL Sports 3-2 but beat a representative team from the league 2-0 while Ireland won their only game against ASL 3-1. Manchester United also won two games 2-1 and 4-1 while Bermuda battled a Trinidad and Tobago team 2-2 in the opening match of the season.

Two Brazilian powerhouses, Flamengo - the team of superstars Zico and Junior and Corinthians also played a game each. Flamengo beat ASL 3-1 and their countrymen went on a goal spree in an 8-2 rout.

By the year end, Suite announced the League was folding.

Earlier, the season opened with Manchester United and Southampton playing to a 1-1 draw at the National Stadium - a game that attracted 18,000 fans. Another English team Bradford City also visited. They won and lost but more importantly, they saw a young man by the name of Russell Latapy and invited him for trials.

Manchester didn't win two games vs. ASL. The first one was rained out at the QPO, probably with MU leading 2-1, the REf. called off the game and it was replayed possibly at the Nat. Stadium with MU winning 4-1.

The Indians were incredibly lucky in that game. And lost two more games to TT on tour.

I think the Corinthians game was 7-2 but could be wrong. However, the two goals by ASL were superb. Garnet Craig with a bullet from about 50 metres out and Lobo with one of the greatest headers I have ever seen.

The Man U - Southampton game was a 1-0 affair. The goal was scored by the only black player on the field for Saints. A set o' white locals showed up at the game, screaming down the place.

I remember being at that game and having to sit on the steps becz the covered area at the Stad. was sold out.
:-)

U have a serious memory horse.  Was it a diving header right?  But somehow thought it was vs Flamengo or maybe Flamengo was a Scissors?

I not too sure any of Suite's leagues was making profits at anytime.  i was a lil young so maybe i am wrong.  Good football in them times.

Honestly pops shoulda never really explain anything or jus say he really wasn't down with dealing with that damn ttff and done talk.  Doubt anybody woulda argue that.

I cant' recall De silva having to play a yr in the super league cause he play for Cofc in South Caroilna and he starting
I also seriously doubt any half decent ncaa coach would tell a youth intl baller regardless of nationality 'ride out yuh miss too much games so we going with the local ODP or walk-on in yuh place"  Transfer out and go play with the competition instead.

Say what choice done make best of luck to the youthman congrats to the young warriors on qualifing  :beermug:

Don't blame Stern blame the damn skipper.  Dwight failed us big time but not stepping up and taking the PK.  Hopefully he acknowledges his gaffe.

I also agree that we had really poor tactics the last quarter of the game.  This is bad.  We needed those 3 points

hear wha yuh saying but maybe the skip had a bad vibe so let stern handle it,
or he decide he wasn't taking 2 in the same game
would be interesting to hear Dwight thoughts on the decision doubt he would ever state it publicly.
Read yuh post on the 4 defenders selection and yeah kinda  still scratching meh head on that decision, can't understand rationale behind that at all.
Fire a coach when he take a point on the road??(yeah we drop 2). still early in the Hex. i thought they woulda lose to be honest.

Tallman wanna say Boney and D Demming played in that brief Caribbean Pro league or Super league???
Boney with Alcons -Brian Haynes, Peter Lewis ,Skeene, Pollonais, Sparrow from Caledonia(never recall his real name).
Dwayne Demming with the team that had a bunch of Strike squad men JB, Francis, Marvin, Dexter Lee etc
St. Clair had a team also
At that time although it was very brief but was top flight not so? i might be wrong it last 3 years.

As a man who played in the SSFL and see hundreds of games, the best team ever assembled that I saw was Sando Tech, bar none.

Signal Hill was good but that team get bout 6 from Sando Tech in the Intercol Semi Final.  Yorkie was a one man show when he played for Signal Hill but Tech had an entire assemblement that was downright advantagous.  Is like them men from Sando Tech was playing paid.

Take this from a man who wanted Arima to beat Sando Tech in the final but they were on another level....

I kinda always question some of dem fellas age but have to give them the nod as the best ever. All yuh wasn't bad either that year, especially the 2nd game ah thought arima had them but faustin was thinking otherwise.
 ;D
Signal hill had a good team after that  not sure if yorke was on it They  run off 3 straight titles.

BTW, were u one of de youths that help them carry back all de UNOPENED celebratory drinks back to mucurapo rd?

Dem drinks get drink before the game......Like dem fellas start drinkin since the game in Tobago when they beat signal hill.  I am so serious, I swear them fellas look tired and drunk before dat game against saints even start.  It funny now, but it was real embarrasing back then...I think Kona score 4 or maybe all 5....cant remember..all I know was we get real licks

kona buss 4 in that game and i always heard a rumor bout dem boy party hard and was drunk.  From the performance it may be true

Football / Re: T&T's best ever Central Defender.....who would that be?
« on: October 02, 2008, 05:43:51 PM »
Neither man was on the S. Squad. Only friggin Gally could answer that.

VB

Correck is right!  Whey fishs?  ;D

Actually, Skinner did get called up to a Strike Suqad practice late in de dance but he was done injured by den.

I think Craig had overs football at that time.  Skinner was good very good but wasn't he foreign based at the time?   Only way gally coulda work  that was to  sit Marvin or Brian and move Francis to wingback.

Disagree.  Skinner had all the tools to play defensive mid.  Instead, that role went to Floyd Lawrence.

The ideal Strike Squad team, FOR ME, without de Gally politics, would have been

Michael Maurice/ Earl Carter
Brian Williams
Clayton Morris
Dexter Francis
Marvin Faustin
Verron Skinner
David Nakhid
Kerry Jamerson
Russell Latapy
Hutson Charles
Dwight Yorke

Skinner & Nakhid did get wood from Gally partly because dem was perceived to be "Corneal boys".  Nakhid also questioned Gally tactics and Gally team was operated as a dictatorship not a democracy so out Nakhid went.

Midfield stack  but where Leo going? I agree with the gally/corneal politricks, i think pollonais,  Ronnie Simmons should be on the squad but  dem boy was foreign and men say gally wasn't down with that.
But wait all yuh men blast MEP, but he might be right Brian Williams might have really play in the center for Alvin Corneal.

My day is JB. Best defender but not a central one was Brian Williams
Used to hear my father an older brother talk about Sellers who i am assuming maybe is Selris Figaro
Also heard them rate up a Reynold George

Was a youth from  Arima who i thought would become one of the best but went america and like ttff forget about him was Dwayne Demming Craig younger brother, he had serious potential.

50
Just want to say to Osmond Downer "thanks"for his services to the game,i must say this was one Referee you just had to respect,he knew the game and was fair,he was one of the guys you don't mess around when he is in the centre and at the same time had a very good relationship with players,he knew us all and what we would do,always had a good word of advice but quick to warn you, definitely one of the stalwarts of T&T Football.

Coop's I agree to a point.  Down is a thief who used to buy the refs (particularly Maynard) back in the 80's and 90's for his St. Augustine teams to win.  He try to get my brother banned from playing for San Juan because he was about to go in the Fire Services.

Ah hear this nuff times (i talking about ref tiefing for gustine).  Also recall they rob Fatima to win intercol one yr when pollonais was  offside by a mile and score. Maynard was the ref, linesman raise the flag all kinda ting.
Then again wherever yuh go in TT dem ref does give yuh blade.

One time this man had gustine in 2nd place ready to go big 7, but so want to win east zone make them replay vs Eldo saying field was too small by 1 or 2 yds.
Eldo bust they tail , Grimes rest a beat through a man leg on the same 2 yds Downer beg for. Gustine finish 3rd and no big seven.

« on: September 15, 2008, 01:26:31 PM »
Marcelle must be credited for injecting renewed life and vigour in the Sangre Grande-based squad, especially in defence, as captain Anthony Wolfe justifiably earned a national recall while he got consistent performances from his captain and sweeper Kevin Jeffrey, Colombian Milton Espitia, his strike partner Sean Cooper, and under-rated utility player Marc Leslie.

From striker to sweeper? Next ting, he go be keeping.

This fella went El do and then VCU?  If the same man used to  be a real good ssfl player.

Football / Re: We Genuinely have a midfield problem
« on: September 11, 2008, 01:33:20 PM »
I second that !! The midfield position is the heart of any team. You dont have a decent mid you will be prone to leak goals and have no bit in attack............. I am absolutely disguested to see mid fielders escort players.......... men running along side a man istead of chooking the foot. Have men gallerying on dem........... another thing.......MEN does wait for the ball to reah dem........MEN doh move towards the BALL at all...... this is not a new symptom, but man it real frigging disappointing !!

HAVE some frigging pride..........I doh care if you have to get nasty I rather than to be a passive timid player.....what the hell show some bite !!

U totally correct here boss seemed to me like a heap of  bad marking, ball watching, no pressure on the ball.

When usa enter yuh midfield apply pressure stay compact.  Dem boy stay on top the defense and strolling, I may be wrong but look like they play low pressure all over the field. Dempsey say he shocked he get room like that. Call the man man a rookie yes.

Totally agree with both of you.   Just to add.....the guys were not on the same page.  There was no unity when it came to wining the ball.  When some guys were hustling the others were backing off or ball watching, as a result some players became visibly upset.  We need united ball wining aggression.  I think guys like Birchall, Yorke and whitley have that aggressive ball wining mentality and they can influence the other guys.  However Yorke was not available, whitley injured and Pacho eh select Birchall.  That means that those on the field need to step and and play confident and aggressive as a team

Wha kill me even more is they adjust for the first 10 mins 2nd half push Usa back then for some unknown reason went back to the same 1st half madness.
