Football / My Team for Saturday
« on: March 22, 2005, 03:58:02 PM »
Fellas I going to start off the game with a 4-2-2-1-1 Just to be on the safe defensive side.

Ah goin with Ince in de post as ah fine Shaka getting susceptible to the long bullet. This was a tough decision as both have not been playing recently due to injury/stupid coach.

I woulda like to have dog in de back to man-mark ruiz because ah feel he woulda boil down with tha physical presence. But say what.

                                       Ince
Pierre------------------Sancho------------Cox/Lawrence-------------Rojas

-----------------------------Jones--------------------------Tiger

Edwards----------------------------Yorke----------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------Glen

--------------------------------------Stern------------------------------

I rather put Spann for Yorke or Theobald if he was fit... but we all know that eh happening.

A lil more attacking

                                       Ince
Pierre------------------Sancho------------Cox/Lawrence-------------Rojas

Edwards----------------------------Jones----------------------------Tiger

---------------------------------------Yorke--------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------Glen

--------------------------------------Stern------------------------------

Finally... Edwards might start to fade as he coming off injury... so personally I taking him off and unless they both score hattricks Yorke and/or Stern...

So we finishing like this:

                                       Ince

Pierre------------------Sancho------------Cox/Lawrence-------------Rojas

Eve------------------Jones---------------------Spann--------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------Glen------------

-----------------------Sealey------------------------

----------------------------------------Stern---------------------------

What amazes me is that the President is responsible for all the mess at madrid since it is he who bought the players and sold others. No to mention it wa he that fired a successful coach and then hired 5 coaches since who in his eyes has failed.
Now you tell me??? Should the President not be fired for such poor judgement in his decisions on who he hired.

Yeah, but is the members of the club that vote him in. Is they who will have to vote him out at the next election in a few years. Or pressure him to resign now.

Every year in T&T they should select a North South East West and Tobago youth team's, U16 & U18. Train them for one month and Play home and away. Invite scouts from pro clubs and American universities.
This will form a base for National Youth teams. Its inexpensive and has potential to be of high quality. Certainly better than watching players win 23-0

As far as I know... this has always been done... never publicised though. It was how all national youth teams got picked. Each zone would have a screening and then they will eventually get down to about 22 players each. There would then be a zonal all star tournament. The national coaches would call players from these teams. I was on the North Zone u-14 through u-16 in 94,95 and 96. Was also fortunate to be selected for the National u-17's for qualifying for the 97 WC in Egypt. (didn't make the final cut though) The coaches was Grayson and LaFoucade. The training was once a week in Presentation grounds, Chaguanas. The only bad thing I could say bout the then  coaching staff... was that we take too long to get a settled squad. We was together for bout a year and men was always coming in and out. We hardly play practice games. We play a Tobago 11 and an American high school had come down and we play them. About 6months or less b4 qualifiers start the side finally get clearance to do weight training in the stadium. I think the staff heart was in de right place but the preparations was not enough.
Players to come out of this team: Cornell Glen, Scott Sealey, Kerry Baptiste, Kerwyn Jack (anybody know where this man gone?), Akudu Goodridge, Kester Cornwall, Isa Ar-Razi, Gary Gibbings, Josh Johnson, and several others

Tallman, dis is such a serious point.  My son had to say de pledge of allegiance out in de courtyard before dey went to class in de morning line by line.  He was not even six years old as yet when we was in California.  Some days, dey sang de anthem.  I didn't grow up so in T&T.  Some of the old timers in T&T said this was not the case in the older days.  Our National Anthem was recited often and everyone sang O' Trinidad.  How many people on dis forum even know dat song?  Yuh does see people walking around and talking and laughing when dey play we anthem in public venues.  Is sad to see.

Nah man i went newtown boys and right thorugh is pledge... anthem... motto, watchwords, the works right through. every monday morning for de least

Dat is all B.S.  De best will appear in de World's, Olympics and de Golden League.  So Ato and DB doh run with de best.  Dat is news to me.  Maybe he talking about in practice.  Look at Ato's former training partners with de H.S.I. club.  His passport did not prevent him from training with de most elite runners.  Hogwash I say.  Kerron could fool plenty but not me.  He sounding like ah child in a candy store...overcome wit excitement.  My grandmother used to say - doh go and eat out in restaurant or shop fuh food on an empty belly because yuh go overdo it (impulse will get de better of yuh).  In dis case is jes Kerron's over exuberence talking...he happy he is a yankee.  Dat is all.  Look how he wrap up in dat flag.  At least Marion Jones does carry two flag with she - U.S. and Belize...not dis lil bitch.  Fus is de headache dat is Trinidad.  Den we hear de administration miss de boat.  Now, he want to run with de best.  What other excuses he have?  The way he going, ah seeing ah political career in de future.  Dat steroid shit jes buss de U.S. throat.  Dey still decent in 100 and 200 but they do not have de stranglehold dat dey used to from 100 thru 800...hurdle events included.  Dey still have de relays down cork though.  Dis is jes another side show from a lil boy who cyah even drink ah beer fuh another two years in his adopted country.  Mix breed, cross breed, mongrel, pothound..one and de same.  Let we call a spade a spade - TRAITOR.

I dey with yuh Savannah... and dis man boldfaced to say he love trinidad. He have no f@#%ng shame at all. Lewee forget he and move on yes!!

I dont mean to beat a dead horse, PFL football is decent, this same Jabloteh team eh win a thing last year ???.N East Stars,Connection,Army all beat this side. With exception to the foreign based, all local based posters should not be suprised.T&T team need an objective coach (which most likely will be foreign) to get the best 20-30 players to play for T&T.
Refering to "fans of T&T Football"I really get pissed when T&T play and you go to games see these buggers sitting quiet and when they do say something it is negative you make noise they watch you like is kiss meh ass church! >:( I dont see these 'FANS" on Sunday evening watching say Army playing Connection or reaching earlier to see the U20 game.So all this talk and analysis say alot about how much of us here truly follow our football! :o

Was de same man not so? I had call him out on de old forum too

Forget Rojas for the moment, I am not hearing much about preparations for the week of the 22 we have 2 very tough games to play and I AM NOT SEEING MUCH ACTIVITY ON OUR TEAM TO IMPROVE THEIR PERFORMANCE.
I was on another forum for a football video game called winning 11 and one Spanish dude from Mexico said that Trinidad had no right to be in the tournament. I was pissed but had to think about it again. Can we really pose a threat to these teams and not end up at the bottom of the table with not a win to our name?

Tallman what going on with the team these days?

Looks like it may very well be a second string squad as they flying to the states on the 24th. That is de day before Champions League final and Chelsea and Liverpool may yet be in de finals.

Also check Eriksson quote from soccernet:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=327464&cc=3888

Eriksson said: 'I am very happy that our plans have been finalised.

'It is a very good opportunity for me to be with the players for a week and to take a closer look at some of the newer members of the squad in a different environment, both on and off the pitch.

Football King what are you talking about???  You know that we play each team twice right?  So you are saying that we need 7 points out of a possible 18 points in the games against Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama to qualify?  That is crazyness.

Trust me, we need more than 7 points from that 18 to go anywhere.

Nah Jahyouth... ah think he talking bout only de next three games away to guatemala home to costa rica and panama.

"If you at the Under 13 level and you have a player who is able to stand out, but has so-so basic skills, I would agree with you that he is talented.  If at the age of 18 he still has problems passing, trapping, moving off the ball, and uderstanding and executing basic tactical aspects of teh game I say he has missed the boat.  You might still call him talented though."

I agree he has missed the boat here as well. Yuh make ah great point they jah youth. But all I saying is if i learn off the ball movement... it have men who could do it too... Theobald is a case in point.
But the numbers are too few...

I think if we catch them as late as 15-16 we can rectify some of the problems though

Football / Re: It is a myth that we do not have talented players
« on: March 09, 2005, 12:42:25 PM »
These "talented players" that everyone is talking about... where are they?  Who are they?  I want to know that.  Talent is a relative thing eh fellas.  A man could be talented and tear up the Secondary Schools Football League and then get ah easy 6 from the US youth team, 3 from the Costa Rican youth team and so on.

And doh give me the old story that "individually our players are as talented as theirs individually but as a team we are behind".  That is rum shop talk.  Our so-called "talented" players still have not mastered the basic concepts of passing trapping and movement without the ball as has been so apparent in our youth team embarassments over the past 15 years.

I hear men talking about Hardest.  How he talented.  Talented where?  Playing small goal in the quarry?  Watch meh... it doh have anybody love that youthman style more than me on this board, but looking at the big picture, internationally he is just a little above mediocre.

So until we start realizing that the prima donnas we have are really and truly not as good as they or the Corneals think they are, we spinning top in mud.

Jah youth, I whole heartedly disagree... anybody who say de talent ent dere... either blind or is ah mad man. How allyuh could say de men cannot trap and pass. I could trap and pass, I bet you could trap and pass too... as well as do it under pressure. On the other hand I challenge you to do it while 4 defenders bearing down on you and your teammates just stand around and watch. It will soon appear like you have no clue when you give the ball away.
This is where I agree with you about movement off the ball... but I do not think it is as basic a skill as you make it out to be... It has to be taught because it is a tactical skill. I remember being taught at an early age (11-13)by Basil "Barney" Smith to look for the runs of our attackers and to take up de space created by them. When I went to secondary school nobody had a clue when i mention diagonal runs. Even a few years ago... playing against big seasoned veterans (ex nationals, trini and caribbean) I seeing strikers posin off like is a 100m dash. waiting for thru ball only to run offside.
It was sickening.

But jahyouth yuh cyah say de raw talent ent dere to be exploited. No way at all. This i where I hope Lincoln plan to certify coaches comes to fruition. Youths will be taught de right things at de right time to complement what dey naturally born with and what dey learn in small goal, 5 a side and what have you.
And when we have a set structure from u-13 come right up to senior level with nobody getting leave by de way side. Then we will see success not before. Anytime we see success now... is a flash in de pan business

Football / Re: It is a myth that we do not have talented players
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:13:39 AM »
On de other hand when yuh listen to Alvin Cornmeal, he does say oh dis one is so talented and dat one talented like if nobody on de field have talent. Lesser squads do more than us because they have harnessed what they have better than us. Jamaica and Cuba eh dat much better than we players on an individual skill basis but they are more seasoned and have more finances than we do. They play better team ball and are more organized and they stay away from last minute fine tuning! Fail to prepare, then prepare to fail. This has been our modus operandi for far too long. I doh see talent being an issue. If Latas was dey, yuh think de results would be vastly different? No way. Been there, done that, bought dat t-shirt already.  ::)

Great post Savannah

I saying the same thing over and over. The talent is there. When you compare our guys player for player against the rest of concacaf. We are not far behind if not at all. Yuh feel Theobald get good in January... these fellas showing promise long time now... They need to be given their chance to show what dey worth. Just check Sam for de comprehensive list of youth players out there. yuh go see talent.
