Stern had an attempt that hit the cross bar vs derby ..... now if that had score I was putting that up for goal of the year .... you cyah pay money for that kinda instinctive reaction in the penalty area! Is just a matter of opinion really.

Football / Re: Forget Rooney, magical Messi is the world's best
« on: April 08, 2010, 08:42:11 AM »
The debate died down at the same time as it did everywhere else...around the time this thread was started...ever since Messi started banging in 2 and 3 in every game.

Yeh the debate "died down" but the ppl who was backin Rooney (except for 1 fella on this board) eh take back their words yet.
Until they say they were wrong then they deserve to and will get real talk!

Before Messi buss 4 on Arsenal, I didn't see any British media say that Messi was better.
Maybe there were some and (I'd like to see them) but it was only yesterday that they made noise about Messi.

They weren't "wrong"...it is a legitimate debate, and Messi has tilted the scales heavily in his favour in the last few weeks. For all we know, things may change in a month or two, nothing stays the same in football for very long.

As I said earlier, UK press coverage is of our league, not the Spanish or Italian leagues. When Messi gets a hattrick in Spain, he will get some column inches in the british papers, but not the back page. Why? Because this is England, not Spain. If he does it in the Champions League against a British club, he gets the back and front pages.

This is where u and the english press have a whole different view to the vast majority of the world: you actually think it's a legitimate debate. Based on pure stats, maybe. But anyone who has watched them both play over the past couple years without any bias can see that they are in 2 different classes.

I not taking anything away from Rooney. Boss player, and he's having a great season. But he cannot singlehandedly dismantle a side the way Messi can. He doesnt have Messi's vision. He doesnt have Messi's control. He doesnt create the same sense of anticipation of something incredible everytime he touches the ball. All respect to Rooney, but he cah shine Messi boots.

Fenwick dont understand that he is not in a real professional league.

how long will we continue to lie to ourself.

The players know they is not real professionals and that is why these things going on.

You want to talk bout professional this and that but it is not true. you cannot lie to yourself

You want man to train hard everyday
Lock off the liming and the party
lock off the lil sweat with the parthers for what?

To go in the stadium in front of 50 people to say well they is professional.

At some point in time we need to look in the mirror and ask ourself if this is really a professional league

By what definition they is professional?

based on the $5000TT a month contract they have?
based on the fact that the league is called professional?
Based on what facts these men is professional?
Based on the standard of play?

When you look at a man like Rooney you could say he is a professional because every waking moment of every day he is involved in football realted activities.
Practice
Team meeting
signing autographs
public relations
game
transportation
rest
injury treatment.

When you is a professional when you get injured you could search on google and you could find out when you expected to come out from injury.

You have 2, 3 physios working with you round the clock when one leave is a next one take up shift and all of them making big money.

That is how you does know you is a professional.
So much people does give a shit about you, you does carh take a shit with out someone knowing.

If fenwick want to coach professional, why the ass he do go back england and get a real job. Instead of trying to change Jabloteh into what he think it should be?

Professional my ass

If Marvin twist he ankle is a bag of ice he getting and he going home to sit down on he couch to rub some soft candle on it.

Rooney ...professional
Marvin....not professional

call it the way it is and stop pretending it is more than it really is!

I usually respect your posts, but this here is real shit. This is precisely the attitude that is holding back the development of the PFL and T&T football on the whole.

We NEED that professional mindset in our football, and I for one am glad that Fenwick is trying to uphold such a standard. This lackadaisical "this eh really a professional league" bullshit attitude will get us nowhere.

Still confused about this match.  Arsenal was poor and punching way above their weight in terms of quality for all but about 10 minutes of this match...but yet it's 2-2 and everything to play for... I guess that's the beautiful game for yuh...

Barca weaknesses are 1) mental (they shut down into training ground mode), and 2) Despite being a great ball wining/defensive unit around the pitch, they are kinda light weight at the back when it counts sometimes.

Arsenal will have to either play ALOT better or put on a tactical masterpiece at the Nou Camp, because in pure footballing terms, based on this game they are way way inferior to Barca, and "should" be on their way out of this one....as much as I respect Barca, I was very surprised to see the footballing gap between the two teams especially at the Emirates...Tie still wide open though...somehow

Interesting quote from Wenger via soccernet.com:

"We are lucky to escape with the draw, I cannot deny that," conceded the Arsenal boss. "We gave them too much room to play their football and we have to say Barcelona are an exceptional side. The annoyance for me is we gave them two cheap goals, but you have to say we were lucky to be still in the tie before those goals arrived.

"It's not easy to accept it when your team are outplayed, but it certainly feels less upsetting than when we are kicked by teams and drop points in the Premier League. What we saw from Barcelona was art and it added up to a great night for football in many ways. I still feel we have a chance in the second leg, but clearly they are a fantastic team."

Good to hear a coach be honest and respectful...

Best post in this thread. I mean, all credit to Arsenal for not giving up and playing right to the end, but really they were nowhere near Barcelona's level last night. Barcelona only have themselves (and Almunia as well) to blame for not ending this tie last night. I really can't see Arsenal doing much in the second leg.

Lucio had Drogba's number today...That was the difference- a big reason why Chelsea couldn't make the possession count.

Overall not impressed by Inter's showing.  As the home team they should made a better impression on the pace and pattern of the game.  For most of the game it seemed like they were stuggling to connect the dots, and relying on defensive discipline and an outstanding game by Lucio to keep them in it.

Still think Chelsea will overturn this score at the Bridge.

Based on today's showing, sure. But i expect an improved performance from Inter in the return leg. Inter usually play better than they did today, and i dont think the poor performance was only due to chelsea's impact. but I guess we'll see how it goes in the return leg.

Told you, I couldn't see a Mourinho-coached Inter having a repeat of their first leg performance. Inter was flat out the better team in the second leg and deservedly got the victory. Well done fellas  :beermug:

When understandable sentiment and sympathy is set on on one side, what are we left with in the footballing context?

We are actually left with the brutal reality that England have actually lost a fringe squad player, someone who - barring exceptional circumstances - would not have started any game at the World Cup. This should not be forgotten should anyone wish to portray Beckham's injury as a serious wound to England's aspirations.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2010/03/sad_for_beckham_but_not_englan.html

yeh thats the foolishness i was talking about. the game 2-2 and a free kick on top the box who on that england team yuh want kicking it? england down and yuh need a player to deliver a telling cross who yuh want doing that? the team is up and under pressure from the opponents, who yuh have that will help the other younger players on the pitch to show composure and skill under that kinda pressure to see out the win?

Fordy, I hear where u coming from. But be honest. Beckham was really gonna be starting ANY game in the world cup? What Tallman posted may have been a bit harsh, but it's the truth.

Well I figure I live in the US why not support them, I don't want to be another person living in the USA and always bad talking them but yet they still living here.

I also feel Landon Donovan gets a raw deal from some here, I believe he is a good baller and better than many of our players in T&T which we will never give credit where credit is due.

Everyone from the Caribbean supports Brazil, not me, I hope they never win anything.

I hope USA goes on to win the 2010 WC or 2014.

I cant wait for US to host the WC again.

As for Zeppo, well I am still Trini FIRST !!!!!

I think many Trinis originally liked the Brazil team because 1) they're in the region, 2)Often, the ethnic make up of their team is one that many Trinis relate to (yes I said it!), 3) Trinis like beat, flam & gallery and Brazil's game is stereotyped as always being attractive to watch...that of course varies from team to team and 4) because they are a romanticized country...i.e. developing country, with a colorful history and flamboyant culture- slavery, samba, sex, carnival etc...  I fell into the group of people under that influence, so Brazil is my favorite....To me the modern overcommercialization of the game has overhyped Brazil, and detracted from its grassroots legacy and made it a team that is easy to dislike - i.e. somewhat of a bandwagon team that is supposed to win everything...At one time I feel like Brazil was the team of the neutrals...now I think it's less so.

On the club scene I like Real Madrid....I first started liking them 10-15 years ago, believe it or not because I liked the all-white uniform lol..It was just a dread looking kit to me :D .... Coincidentally they're the most successful team in Europe  ;)

I like Argentina on the international scene. Simply because of the fact that you broke down there, EVERYBODY was a Brazil fan so I supported their biggest rival. And it stuck to this day.

Club-wise, Inter and Barcelona.

« on: November 02, 2009, 04:26:04 PM »
the fact remains the boy is not playing well

Barclays Premier League Top Scorers
Torres     Liverpool     10
Drogba    Chelsea    9
Bent            Sunderland    8
Van Persie    Arsenal    7
Cole            West Ham    6
Defoe    Tottenham    6
Rooney    Man Utd    6
Saha            Everton    6
Agbonlahor    Aston Villa    5
Fabregas    Arsenal    5
Jones    Sunderland    5
Keane    Tottenham    5
Rodallega    Wigan    5
Adebayor    Man City    4
Bellamy    Man City    4

In de company of some real shithounds here, boy.

Not tuh mention his assist rate. you does take these fellas seriously especially when they refering to KJ?

first of all the man is not ah pocher, his job is not so much tuh score , but tuh draw defenders away from the pocher (which is bent) and  hold up the ball and ware down defenders, it's ah miracle the bredder does be working like ah chattel mule and still scoring goals.

if allyuh want tuh pick on someone then pick on scotty, up till now he cyar find the back of the net.

Drogba at any point in time has 2 or more defenders on him yet he is second on d scorin list  :-\

Drogba is also playing alongside Lampard, Essien, Anelka, Terry and the rest of the cast of superstars at Chelsea. Kenwyne getting stellar service from the likes of Jordan Henderson, Kieran Richardson and Andy Reid.

Allyuh saying KJ playing shit, yet few would argue that the KJ/Bent duo is one of the most feared partnerships in the Prem.. I guess that means Darren Bent must be the next coming of Torres..

Go figure..

wat drogba's supportin cast have to do wid d fact that he is still able to score goals while being jumbied by many defenders at any point in time ???

i just pointin out d fact dat doh mind he like to playact,  drogba is a work horse compared to kj

when i watch a sunderland game, my eyes are usually focused on jones an for many periods of d game he just stands there, no hustle.

at dis point i not hatin on kj,  i jus find he has d potential to be one of d best strikers, but he needs to work harder

does KJ get de same kinda ball and same kinda opportunities drogba does get?

wayz! so all of a sudden d service KJ gets at sunderland not efficient!
d same service that d majority of peeps on dis board use as  reasoning as to why KJ doesnt score for d national team, but scores for sunderland! that same service?
all of a sudden d service at sunderland not up to par?
allyuh sweet in dis place yes!

So because the service he gets at Sunderland is better than what he gets with the NT, that means it is as good as what Drogba gets at Chelsea? Dat come like saying because dirt taste better than shit, dirt is the best

But on another note....after diamondtrim (yet again) calls out the "emotional people" on the forum, allyuh ever see such an emotional post from him as this one? Notice, he is clearly incensed by the article. So as much as he trying to discount Liburd and his article(s), it's obvious he's getting under his skin, shown in his overt attempt to try to convince us 'kids' that it's all over.

And then too he tries to convince Lasana to stop writing.....talk mr trim, talk!

I see the pandemic disease of idiocy and a reluctance to accept the basic tenets of comprehension, has not lost its potency on the author of the above quote.

My post was devoid of emotion, in as much as your head is apparently devoid of worthwhile content. In fact, if you did read the post, and furthermore, understood it, you may have noted that it was focussed on highlighting the fact that with the players divided, only the TTFF (and its advisor) would win, and kudos to them for winning. But perhaps that escaped you. No worries there, as I am fairly certain that far greater things have escaped your intellectual grasp.

Mr Bake's response was strangely civil and seemingly well put together....Yours however displays the image of a person steeped in the quagmire of ignorance.

Ah, the standard diamondtrim tactic of resorting to insults of his opposer's level of intelligence.....predictable, and I expected as much, to be honest.

This post of yours was devoid of emotion, your previous post however wasn't, especially coming from you. Your opening statement clearly displayed supreme annoyance with Mr. Liburd and his article(s). Afterwards, although you did highlight the fact that the players' division presents a gigantic obstacle towards any success in their case, you didn't just offer kudos the the TTFF, you celebrated it, with almost maniacal laughter I might add (by your standards).

As for your closing paragraph, while you've discounted Liburd before, this is the first time I can recall you encouraging him to write pertinent articles, taunting him and his "boyfren Jennings" about their jokey journalism and lack of results. Not usually your style.

But then again my head devoid of worthwhile content and u smarter than me and everybody on this board put together right, so what do I know??  ::)

TriniKev...Your points are noted. And I do apologise where the insert is required.

However, I still stand by my assertion that my post soared over your head. I similarly stand by my position that Mr Liburd and his "boyfren Jennings" investigate poorly, and with great bias. The proof is in the continued flourishing their targets.
I don't agree there....I understood your points, and I didn't argue with them. I was commenting on the apparent emotion in your comments. Of course the fact that the players are divided is going to be a negative factor in their case, and weakens their stand considerably. The outlook for them is becoming bleaker by the day, with the situation as it is. That said, for most of us here it doesn't mean we will accept what JW has done to the players yet again, even though some players jumped ship at the first sight of some money waving in their face, as you said. And as long as the remaining 16 continue in their stance against him, then I standing with them. They deserve what they were promised, regardless of the weakness of some of the others.

As far as Liburd and Jennings are concerned, I doh think anyone here would deny they are biased, and that their reports have had little to no effect so far. That said, I for one appreciate their efforts, and i consider this article Liburd's best yet, simply because he stuck to the facts....none of the usual namedropping and irrelevant bits of trivia, he came good this rounds. Keep it up Lasana, well done  :beermug:

Liburd.....steups.

Ah sure allyuh know dat d post of 'special adviser' in d ttff constitution does not exist, and legally this 'adviser' is not authorised to make any legally binding agreements with anybody, regardless of implied or assumed authority.

This comment is of no consequence.  Regardless as to whether the title appears in the TTFF Articles of Incorporation or its Charter (not being a sovereign territory but in the mind of Jack Warner, the organization would not have a 'constitution') is irrelevant to the legal question at hand.  I have no idea what "assumed authority" is, but Jack Warner's authority to act on behalf of the TTFF is implied from the actions of the organization in its dealings with third parties, having referred negotiations with said third parties to Jack.  The authority is also apparent from Jack's own behavior... having spoken of his personal expenditures and executive decisions taken on behalf of the organization.  But again, all of this is besides the point.

The mootness of the discussion is underscored by the fact that the issue of "authority" hasn't even raised as a defense by the TTFF to the contractual obligations alleged.  Aside from the very obvious fact that a binding arbitration agreement has already determined that there was a contract (and implicity that Jack had the authority to enter into the same on behalf of the TTFF), there is also the fact that no one from the TTFF is contesting that Jack had the authority to act for the organization.

Nice red-herring effort though.

Thanks Bakes....I was wondering if this fool actually believed that bullshit he wrote there.

When he was coach he was like the rest, clueless.

So because he was once coach he lost the ability to learn from his experiences? I don't understand why what he was negates what he might be able to contribute. Isn't it possible that because he was in the position that he's seen what we lack first hand and is making a suggestion to fix it?

We complain endlessly about national coaches who have to work with players that often lack basic skills, football sense or the work ethic to improve short comings. National coaches aren't development coaches and cannot make our players something that they are not. We complain a lot and do conversely little.

How about we read what it is he says and if there's something that he says we don't agree with we critisize that? God forbid we actually find something sensible in there.

Trinity Away Tuesday..Woodbrook Home Sat

Schedule looking real soft but don't count yuh chickens before they hatch, playing 2 teams desperate to avoid relegation can be difficult.  However, cic in the driver's seat to take the league title.

Yuh mean North Zone title, The Green Machine in the driver seat for league title.

Team                             Played W  D  L Goals Diff. Points
St. Augustine Secondary        10   8  1  1  29:8  18  25
Queen's Royal College            10   6  1  3  14:6  8   19

u can't compare points from 2 different zones to determine who is the favorite, the east zone could be much weaker than the north zone hence green machine have more points...by the way i meant north zone title.

Also the national league title is determined by the winner of the big 5 tournament. It would be wrong to say any of the zone leaders in the drivers seat for the league title before the big 5 is even played.

Cricket, Rugby, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL...all of dem using seeding.  We have seeding in de Concacaf pre-lims and semis.  Dat is why we get a bye and doh start off playing Anguilla or somebody like dat.  It have Pros and Cons anyway yuh take it.  Look at de Concacaf having to play a South American Country for the last placed spot for SA.  Is not good for the island countries in our zone.  The only thing good about it is dat we eh have to travel to like NZ, Bahrain or some other ridiculously far destination all de way across de globe.  Travel wise it makes sense but we have real stiff competition if we end up in a playoff situation.  De South Americans, yes dey saving money but playing against one of de better teams in de Concacaf is harder for us and them compared to playing some tiny place in de Oceania Group.  If we have to go through it, so be it for Ireland etc.

The thing is savannah, in this case seeding was never a part of this stage. It would be different if before qualifying started they made this change, but now as they reach the final playoff, when it look like some "big" teams in danger of not qualifying you NOW decide, "Aye we cah have these big sides not qualifying for the world cup, dat go affect my money! Lemme throw in this seeding business to make sure these "big" sides have the best chance possible to qualify".

That kinda last minute change in the qualifying rules is assness to the nth degree. Teams made it to this point based on their performances in qualifying, but just because you name Portugal or Italy you must get extra favours for the playoff, when you did just as well/poorly as Ireland or Denmark?  :bs:

If yuh so big, then why yuh need an extra helping hand (playoff seeding) to qualify?
If yuh so big, how come yuh didn't top yuh group? (and hence need a playoff)...

Bigger doesn't mean better here. In FIFA speak bigger simply means has-larger-fan-base-that-will-bring-in-more-money

Yeah E, I know...hence some of the times I put "big" in quotes...and why I implied (or maybe I was more explicit  ;D) that there is an elitist perspective at play.

I think people need to explore what "being able to see both sides" of an argument really means.  If the issue remains controversial for some it's because they haven't quite seen both sides to the issue.  Seeing "both sides" means understanding the merits on both sides... not just understanding what the other side is saying or trying to say.

I don't agree....IMO merit as far as arguments/debates/differences in view isn't always absolute....it's often based on perspective.  In times of disagreement "seeing the merit", is more likely "seeing the merit from the other side's perspective"  (whic I do by the way) .....in such a case, although "yuh see both sides of the argument", yuh still entitled to view it as controversial simply because you differ on the matter at hand...

In my case, I totally see what Blatter's point is...and I could even go as far as to say that I agree the WC finals tournament itself in SA will be more enjoyable, exciting, high profile, high quality, profitable yadda yadda, if the big boys get a helping hand to qualify...doesn't mean that I agree with the means by which they got there.

Agreed, in this case Blatter is changing the rules at the final hurdle just to make things easier for the "big" teams, and to suit his agenda....as if the odds not against the smaller teams already. I understand what he is trying to achieve, but in no way is that fair to the smaller teams who worked their asses off to get to this point. FIFA fair play indeed  ::)

Sky
I would love to eat ah steak, but I could only afford doubles, ah cyah vex with nobody else for me not doing me school work in the earlies...doh mean ah not going to eat, and give up on trying to attain that steak.

Knd, Storeboy

wha bout if the story maybe go like this
'This weekend I was watching Tv and I see me boy Kenwyne playin for TT
check for a ball.
Cyah get ah direct pass...finally get One
Mess it up
Finally get anudda , Play a nice first time ball (good touch) back to the midfielder

Peel off into the box for the return.

eyes focused on the ball
cross ball comes in , oops behind he back, nobody dey ,
finally ah nex one come in, shim he just gettin up off the ground again from whey a small man just lik him down, after helping double team him, on ah little anyway clearance, for the 5th timer

come back from running, d man jump into the air and miss, over he head, no where near the keeper, will himself to get the ball, and hit ah free man, make ah run for it, the man blast over bars.

And I say whey, That man shoulda pass, buh wait, KJ cyah score for we at all, at least other man getting shot.
This the is same man that will not even run through a 5 foot 4 El Salvadorian weighing 135 pounds for the red white and black.
Only Shadowing and going through the motions on the field.
I feel the injury he get against england change his midset.
Just like what happend to Yorke in Jamaica.

Maxg, I going to tell you this one more time! EXCUSES for KJ not scoring have run out they have expired!!
If he doh score in CR in that game on Saturday and do the same against Mexico on Wednesday then his manager Bruce after all the pep-talk will bench his tail for not knowing by now to stop wasting his time going all the way to the Caribbean to play for T&T and coming back with nothing to show for it!  I won't blame Bruce for that one bit as the man will be right!! He wants to hear that his top strikers are scoring goals and not dashing off on a cheap holiday when they have important games to prepare for!

So he last came for Sunderland he score against Man U no less. But if he he score 4 we in d next 2 games Bruce go bench him. We done confirm dat he doh play 4 we like he does play 4 Sunderland so he eh go score. He eh go b very tired and he go travel back 2 d UK in first class ready 4 Sunderland.

I think as usual if KJ doh score for T&T, Bruce will bench his tail at least for one game for wasting his time travelling all the way to the Caribbean, just watch and see!
But if KJ scores for T&T, Bruce may want to bench him but will think twice and still play him on that same weekend he's back!

Just my suspicion, we’ll have to wait and see if my theory on how Bruce will react when KJ gets back is proven correct!

You seriously think Bruce care whether or not KJ score for T&T?  ::)

Bruce cares about whether KJ leaving to represent T&T in what he views as a meaningless match is justified!
Also KJ scoring for T&T demonstartes to Bruce that he is in goal scoring form and puts pressure on Bruce to play him on that very weekend that he gets back from the Caribbean!

See the logic there? Scoring for T&T somewhat justifies KJ leaving to play for us but not scoring for us and getting bad reviews sends out the wrong message to his manager!

All yuh done say d man doh play hard 4 we. Bruce must b done read dat here so he have 1 wish 4 KJ come back injury free. He have no choice but 2 send him because he eh want FIFA ah mean JW down he throat. Not 2 mention d FA as dey do dey sound and dance wit JW 2 get d WC in 2018.

My argument is that at this time KJ should have gotten smart like JS and say to Latas, thanks for the invite but no thanks this time round. I need to put my head down for Sunderland right now and secure my starting position. Let’s give one of the other young strikers an opportunity to prove themself for the next two games and get some crucial Hex experience. I already have enough Hex experience so these two games won’t be as important to and beneficial to me as it would be to one of the other young guys needing the experience!

Then woulda get cuss 4 not comin 2 play 4 we. JLlyod was willin 2 come he had some ticketin problems. So if JL was willin y not KJ?

Yes KJ is willing, otherwise he wouldn't have accepted the invite!

My argument is that KJ should get smart like JS and say thanks but no thanks to Latas this time round.
KJ's position is different to JL's, different club, different position and different manager plus one is trying to establish himself as part of the T&T team while the other is a sure pick due to friendism from Latas!

JS never said that tho...

The point is that in T&T the criteria that makes one a 'big footballer' is whether the man could beats and embarass men (whether or not the skills led to anything productive for the team), rather than on technique, ball control, passing, organization, running off the ball, fitness, etc. Yes, there are ppl who understand that dribbling skills are just a small part of what would make a top footballer, but those ppl are few and far between. And until we change that mentality from the youth levels, it's gonna be even harder for us to make any kind of consistent impact on the world stage.

And the saddest irony is that when yuh watch our nat'l teams play nowadays, we eat alot more beat than we share out...

For all our love of dribbling, it realllll hard to find a good one-on-one player on our Nat'l squad.

Sad but very true. And I find it has an effect on our defending as well....men so afraid to eat beat that we play very tentatively in defence a lot of the time, and allow opponents too much time and space to operate. Not that we should rush in like madmen or anything, but we see far too often opposing players getting too much time to shoot, or make that final killer pass against us.
