Football / Re: You are the Ref
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:44:31 AM »
Here's some ref questions I found that probably aren't as complex as 'you are the ref' but here goes:

1. What should the referee do, and how is play restarted if...

A direct free kick (DFK) is awarded to the red team just outside their penalty area. The red team player #7, who is not the goalkeeper, takes the DFK and miss-kicks the ball, sending it in the direction of his own goal. The red team player #7 realizes that the ball is headed for his own net and runs to the ball in an attempt to stop it before it enters the goal. While inside his penalty area, red team player #7 dives and deflects the ball with his hand over the goal line, preventing it from going into his goal.

2. What should the referee do, and how is play restarted if...

An attacking red team player, who is adjusting his shirt, grabs the bottom of it with both hands as the ball is played to him. He "catches" the ball with the bottom of his shirt (as a basket), without touching the ball with his hands, then he releases the ball from the shirt to his feet and kicks it into the goal?

3. What should the referee do and how is play restarted if...

A blue defender just outside the blue team's penalty area starts holding a red attacker who is dribbling toward the blue team's goal. However, while still being held by the blue defender, the red attacker manages to get into the blue team's penalty area before losing control of the ball to the blue team defender?

1. Red card to the #7 and a penalty kick to the other team

2. Yellow card to the offending player for unsportsmanlike conduct, and a freekick is awarded to the other team.

3. Free kick awarded to the red team just outside the penalty area, as that was where the holding began.

This is why we lose at this level.

Juma Clarence get the ball wide on the left side of the field near the half line.

NOBODY on him.

He has options behind him to play a simple pass.

No.  He decide he watch Beckham plenty times so he decide to play a ball all de way over to de other side of the field HOPEFULLY to Jake Thompson...again...WITH NO PRESSURE.

Slices the ball....picked up easily by the Italians.  Counter attack.

GOAL.

And this is who we dependin on for 2014?

I not attackin Juma Clarence.  I attackin de mind set...which is TYPICAL of MANY of our players.

Until we have players who don't make STUPID mistakes on a REGULAR BASIS...we'll continue to lose....regularly.

We are NOT careful with the ball.

We're dispossessed too easily.

We don't concentrate because we lack discipline.

Therefore, we make stupid mistakes...repeatedly.

We lose.

coaching and selection, corneal in the mix   excellent points palos :beermug:

TI which part of that mistake was due to coaching?? That was just a stupid decision by the player. Yuh hadda stop your witch hunt against the coaches sometimes and just see things for what they are....in this case, delusions of grandeur by the player.

BnS & kicker I think we more or less on the same page here.....I definitely not against him being in the senior team pool, I agree he deserve the props for his performance yesterday and that he could potentially be a huge asset in the run to 2014. I just kinda thought the calls for him to be immediately inserted into the Senior starting lineup were ridiculously premature  :beermug:

Oh gosh man Touches, you too?? After one game, at U-20 level??

Look, I agree the boy had a very good game and has a lot of potential, but let's be real here. Playing ONE good game against U-20's is a whole lot different than playing in a full international WCQ. Especially against Costa Rica in San Jose. I am all for blooding the youths, but lewwe at least make sure he consistently looks a cut above at the U-20 level before we christen him the second coming.

Not to join the chorus... but you don't think one game is sufficient to tell you about a player's ability to read the development of a play?  Or about the quality of his touch... or ability to cross the ball accurately and with consistency?

I didn't see the game so these questions are more hypothetical than an actual assessment of his game... but based on the opinions of a couple posters here who I respect, the consensus is that based on these criteria he had a great debut in our national colors.  I would think that these are qualities innate to the player and not dependent on the quality of opposition he lines up against.

Maybe so, but having not seen the game, how do we know he would have the same results given less time to make his decisions, under greater pressure, against more physically imposing opposition? I not saying he can't make the jump, but we should at least look and see if he keeps up this level of play against Italy and Paraguay before we rush to judgement. Also, going by an earlier post (I think it was Cool Beans who said it), based on reports from Southampton fans, his crossing performance tonight was more an aberration than the norm. All the more reason to observe him some more in the upcoming games to see if he consistently displays such a high level of play.

Brownsugar, Abu Bakr's situation was different to Thomson's. For starters, he was in the national setup before. Also, we didn't have much of a choice at the time as K. Thomas was injured, and D. Lawrence was unavailable (cah remember why). And on top of all that, many of us here were questioning the move, even after the game.

Look, I not saying he can't be a part of the Senior team squad, or he not good enough, or anything like that. I jus sayin one good game at a lower level of competition doesn't necessarily mean he is ready. Let's just make sure this is his everyday output.....and we have at least 2 more games in this tournament to see whether or not that is the case.

And just throwing this out there (even though i know ppl doh wanna hear this), do we even know that he wants to commit his future to T&T at this stage of his career? Cuz he young, born and raised in England, and never even set foot in T&T. I mean I hope he is commited to the T&T cause full time, but that might not be where his head is at right now. Just something to think about...

Argentina signs a mega deal with Geritol or it seems so.

Well I would not be surprised if Diego picks himself for the next clash.

Daniel Ortega has been recalled to the squad. Palermo, Veron, Ortega WOW!

Yuh mean Ariel Ortega?

Thompson one performance better than any of the other 12 wing back we try umpteen times excluding JJloyd.

Put him in the Costa Rica match.

He go hold he own, he could trap, pass, he have some speed... he might even be able to give Kenwyne a proper cross.

Also too he have some ball sense between he ears...and dat is what many TT players lacking.

If Clarence dont start the next game the coach is an imp!

Oh and De Sliva should be water boy!
Tough...not fair. He had a bad game but he's still young.  Give the man a bligh nah....jeeze.....
Tough? Sport is dog eat dog and about winning. Until we adopt that mentality we will continue to be 'plucky losers'. He go get a bligh when he put in a better performance than today. I seriously thought he did not want to get his white strip dirty.

So you see the man play one game and ready to banish him forever? Doh mind all the good games he had in the qualifiers and warm-up games, all the goals he scored, etc. This one game for you define him as the worst ting in a tugs

... and on the flip side we see a man play one good game and he is a better crosser than anything on our national team?  ::)

Breds, did I say he is the worst thing in a tugs or he should be bannished from the team? I just think he should be water boy to show him that his pick not certain. Now Juma on ther hand just look like he belong on the starting 11.

Well last time i checked, the water boy was not part of the team....so i think that qualifies as banishing him
Breds, its a figure of speech, its means, he should not start. You not Trini or what?

Breds, anybody who ever get called a water boy never see the field. So come again....nobody does call a substitute (who actually gets some playing time) a water boy. At BEST it's a sub who has a permanent space on the bench.

dis is d world cup, dis eh no sunday sweat. is only three games we set to play. no room for mistakes. yuh play shit in d world cup, yuh will get benched. plain an simple

Ok so he picked a bad time to have a bad game. However, based on his past performances, it is logical to assume that it was just an anomaly, as he has regularly been a positive contributor in the games leading up to the tournament. Based on that reasoning it is premature to condemn him on this one poor performance. He not usually shitty like dat lol

Watchin dah last video (Thanx Shaun fuh doin it and Tallman fuh postin it) it's noticeable to me that our team's training sessions appear to be significantly more intense than our senior national team training sessions.  At least the one's I've seen of the senior national team anyway.

Also....some of our players are pretty big.  DAMN!

Then you saw a lil 30 seconds of the Egyptians and yuh realize that while our players may be big and especially tall, their players appear to be more SOLID. Weight training perhaps?

Anyway..thanx again to shaun and tallest.

Yeah Egypt definitely looks to have the size advantage.  Good point about the intensity.  I remember when Beenie was head coach, the players and even spectators/bloggers always remarked at how intense our practice sessions were- many of them being run at game speed and game intensity...I was surprised when I saw Latas' training sessions that they were so relaxed but again I was only privy to a very very small % as far as what I saw.

I have a good feeling about this T&T team...Far stretch for us to win any of these games but I have a feeling that we will look like we belong for a change.

I completely agree with this sentiment. I not necessarily expecting any wins, but i'm confident that the boys will give a very good account of themselves and be very competitive.

For the sake of the country I only hope that the government in power understands this.” Warner added, “I would have imagined that after Germany 2006 the government would have understood the power of sport. We are pumping millions of dollars into the marketing of Trinidad and Tobago, selling our country to the world. Nothing is more powerful than sport. Sport can topple any barrier, it can unite all forces. Why the government is insisting on sidelining and ignoring this obvious marketing tool is truly mind boggling to me.”

I would like to see the players take it upon themselves to visit the weight room very often and improve on their match fitness. No coach or club can force them to do that. The onus is on them.

The only way yuh could improve on MATCH fitness is to play matches....other than that, i agree with the sentiment. It is important that our players approach this in a more professional manner, with serious attention to workout regimen and diet especially. It will have an impact in all other facets of our performance on the field.

all in all, I personally don't think it was that bad of a result ... but a loss is a loss.
An earlier post (think it was Flex's masterpiece) gave Vranes' track record with the team and the win-loss ratio, as well as GF-GA ratio was shameful.

seems like some of the complecancy spill over from the Senior Team to the U-20s.

Fellas was taking win in seeing TT seniors lose, but playing better ball under Latapy.
Now we taking win in that we didn't get more than 2 from the Aussies.

Exactly, that's all I sayin....I certainly wasn't expecting for us to go there and beat down Australia, and 2-1 is a respectable scoreline. That said, I just doh want our approach to be one of just playing not to lose too badly, cuz that mindset really not gonna help us improve and get to where we want to be. We have to aim for better than that.

Based on the scoreline it seems we were competitive, and could hold our own....but i waiting on Fuentes' match report for a more comprehensive description of the match.

Other than that, i hope the boys watch the tape, learn from their mistakes and keep improving

All in one season; Bendtner, Eboue and Adebayor got Booed in their OWN stadium BY THEIR OWN "FANS"!  Eboue was crying coming off the field when the boos was raining on him and he collect the Cobo sweat! That to me, is much more disgraceful and hurtful than what Addy do...At least anyone wearing a Man city jersey will show more respect and loyalty to their OWN players! steuupssss....who more fikkle than an Arsenal fan? Allyuh know how to stand by anything? Even Wenger, at the end of the year get berated! steupssss.....Do yuh forkin ting Addy boy! Ah find yuh cudda kiss the City Crest too during that 15 foot slide on yuh knees... maybe at the Emirates?  ;)

p.s. GunnerStunner; am i "inciting" you?

More disgraceful than stamping Fabregas on his ankle, and V. Persie in his face? More hurtful and antagonistic than purposely running the entire length of the field just to rub it in Arsenal fans' faces? As well as Adebayor played, he showed a complete lack of class in that game...and i eh no Arsenal fan

don't care whether ur a fan or not.  i guess you didnt see adebayor jump skipping tackles that were meant to hurt him all game.  did u see the tackle van persie pelt before he colleck his face tattoo?  or the two absolutely wild tackles bendtner pelt, when addy abuse they whole left side and tap it to shawn wright? were u there to hear the nasty shit arsenal fans were hurling addy's way all game? my point is, that u can't really blame the man for an emotional outburst, given the circumstances..  but as the retarded saying goes, he is the "professional", because he makes more money than them.  Can't wait to live in a time of "professional" fans........

I saw no such tackles that were specifically meant to hurt him...and V. Persie's challenge prior to his face tattoo was absolutely NOTHING compared to what he received in return. While i will agree that Bendtner's challenges were a bit reckless, again, no comparison to a stamp in the face. And no I didnt hear what the fans were saying to him, and my guess is neither did you. And so what if they hurled insults at him, he really needed to stoop to their level? Instead of being a man, he acted like a boy. He had already exacted his 'revenge' by scoring and leaving a profound impact on the outcome of the game, why tarnish that with such asshole behaviour? Absolutely no need for the Joey Barton impression.

Too fordy and elan, first fordy. almost every thing yuh said made sense except the opening. bred the U.S. is not ah good road team, they didn't play sh!t or started slow, on the contrary, it was us who stepped up and neutralize their offensive movement on and off the ball.

go back and watch the game, noel, carlos, Jlloyd, leon, and tinto closed down much of their space too operate, they didn't know what the fack hit them, they were incapacitated in the middle of the midfield field and had no magic going forward.

we held possesion ah little longer failing in the final 3rd, glenn and KJ did a horrible job on not scoring , but in all fairness to KJ, he took a lot of pressure off the other strike and freed him up for the better opportunities.

all who said KJ is ah bum need to revisit that statement, including meh self.

i eh go lie, it's only when i looked @ the tape again iz when i realize the bredder had onyewo wokin over time, he was pushing , pulling and squabling, it was glen who was supposed tuh step up BC KJ was doubled team together with tinto which gave glen a lot of room to operate.

JC, I give u real props for saying that dere....Kenwyne put out max effort last night, and had a good shift. He was constantly double teamed, opened up a ton of space for Glen, and won a lot of fouls as Onyewu didn't know what to do with him. He could have done a lot better with a couple of goalscoring opportunities, but all in all he had a very good game. I doh know how ppl could say otherwise.

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman and Robbie Findley have been named by U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Bob Bradley to the roster that will represent the United States in the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, taking place the RSL duo’s Rio Tinto Stadium home on Saturday, Sept. 5 against El Salvador and four days later at Port-au-Spain, Trinidad against Trinidad & Tobago. I not even trying to complain about that squad. Looks good to me .

Breds i real disappointed tuh hear such an avid football fan as yuh self satisfied with such ah uncreative midfield and slow back line.

spann has been runnin on luck for the pass few games he started as ah wing back, how long yuh think that would last, dog is slow and bakr is slower, the only saving grace on this defence is JLLoyd.

the midfield have pure labourers with the exception of carlos and tinto, and yuh dun know tinto eh starting over carlos, so is one midfielder we have who solid going forward.

birchall, bleeder, and noel is defensive mids and keon can't even out run ah man wid ah wooden leg, so where is the speed and the creativity coming from in the midfield?

doh get meh wrong breds, i love meh team or else i wouldn't even get worked up over whetever dem clowns do in T&T, but here i am 4 o clock in the morning stressing meh self over latas inability tuh bring in more talent and quality on the team, and mind you, quality that we have @ our disposal and is readily available, but mr king pin latapy not budging!

i wish him luck wid all dat stubourness, ah know one thing's for sure, if he lose another game he goose cook, and he will be out right after the hex.

this ting name T&T football is ah sure ulcer tuh rass!

JC, we HAVE to have labourers in the midfield. If you, or anybody else for that matter, feel we gonna go into Honduras and run rings around them den allyuh mad.

For us to have a chance to win this game, we have to stifle their midfield and hit hard on the counter. It is a workmanlike attitude throughout the team that would get us the result we need.....that and we have to finish the chances we get. Ah love our football, but we just not gonna run rings around Honduras in their back yard, it just not gonna happen.
