Crime is not new to Trinidad and Tobago, as heinous acts have been committed over the last 20 years, says Government Minister Fitzgerald Hinds.
“We have a crime epidemic, so the motion (in Parliament) calls it, but I am saying what we see happening now is now new, Member for Chaguanas East. If you look at the headlines in this country over the last 20 years, screaming headlines about crime, who lost their head, which baby get killed, I mean this is not new,” he said in his contribution to the Opposition’s private motion on the crime epidemic which was debated at the Parliament sitting yesterday.
Hinds, the newly appointed Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General, said heinous crimes are not committed in T&T alone, pointing out that he read of a case in Russia where one man killed 54 people and ate their entrails.
He said there is a “new phenomenon” on the horizon where global drug trafficking is becoming more sophisticated.
