What about Track & Field / Re: Darrel flops again at a major event
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:33:16 PM »
I have followed track and field for a very long time and I agree with Ato about the sub-10 times Burns and Brown produced. Looking at their performances before and after that race, it leaves a lot of doubt in my mind. I am not agreeing because Ato said so..like some of you forumites...although Ato probably has probably more knowledge of the 100m than any other forumite.

I am not saying Burns and Brown are not good but if you look at the other times of the other athletes in that race and compare it to their otimes during that season you will realize there a strong possibility that was a problem with the timing devices.

I still think Burns and Brown are very talented especially Burns and they are capable of making us proud but they have some ways to go....there is Gatlin and Asafa...and there is everybody else as far as the 100m is concerned.

I am sure Ato won't mind eating his words because if he does then than would mean Burns and Brown are the real deal.

You know what you are talking about. My other handle is INFAMA and Ato an I see eye to eye on this one. Ato never said that the 2 trinis are not talented. He said that there was likely a problem with the timer at that meet and he should know, as he has experience with meets in TnT and internationally.

Ato is already proven right, as NONE of the Trini runners matched those times later on in their peak in 2005. No shame in that as Bigga Thomas and Frater are yet to break 10s. However, Ato and I both agree that eventually (sooner rather than later) all the mentioned top guys will break through those times.

As to whether they will reach the heights of Asaf and Gatlin, well that remains to be seen. That is the glorious uncertainty of sport.

They will step up in 2006 for sure.

Would be nice to see the Caribbean sprinters put the fear in the US.

1113
Filho and KND,

You are soooo right.

Many of the posters here have no clue about football and are just qualification waggonists. Same thing happened on the RBoyz site back in 1998. People there disparaged friendly matches against TnT, but the results were always close and the games always competitive.

No match better than a matchup with Jamaica? Puhleeeze. Some of these guys need to wake up.
The World Cup will be a cruel shock. TnT will be thrown in the deep end and the more friendlies you get between now and summer, the better you will cope.

Finally, some of you need to stop the disparaging anti-Jamaican remarks. The tit for tat insults are demeaning, boring and just plain stupid.

I close by saying go TnT and rep us well. The whole Caribbean is behind you...at least the well thinking ones.

You know yuh baller. Hecky was the rel deal, as was Keith Tomlinson.

Haggler was not prototypical, neither was Hecky. Both were exception, but for different reasons.

Monga,

Igf those people are upset, its not because of TnT the nation, but rather because they are angry at JW and Burrell who playing politics with them. Burrell has the full support of Warner to destabilize Boxhill (who is admittedly not very good).

International football politics going on.

Regular Jamaicans are proud of TnT. Not because we are sad not to qualify that we cant be glad for TnT. Afterall, its not TnT who cause us to fail this time, so no hard feelings.

It is nice to see a kindred doing well. The W Cup would not be as nice and interesting to us without a Carib team. It is in our interest for TnT to do well and rep. Concacaf to secure that half a spot for 2010!!!

Hahahaha,

I see unno clashing with RF.

I only have one comment, even though I hadda back mi TnT bredin, watch out for England.

That Bwoy Rooney if fit will be a star if not THE star of the next W Cup. I see him live mashing up the Argie defense. I tell you he is worth the hype.

Dont say I never warned you. Watch England. A draw will be a terrific result for TnT, even 2-0 defeat will not be bad.

1119
What all the arguing for???

It is all moot. TnT is the only qualifier from the Caribbean and they will be the one we will all root for next Summer.

It matters not which country one comes from, or who anyone thinks is better. All that matters is for us to give TnT a rousing level of support as they go out to rep for all of us in Germany. Nice time will be had by all. No need to tear down each other...at least save that for next Fall and after. Big dance coming up now.

No matter what anyone says, classy people all over the Carib. are rea proud of the TnT qualification. We know what it means to TnT psyche and we rejoice and are exceeding glad.

Huh?

First off, is Trinidad the same as Tobago?

I was talking about TnT.

2nd, what relevance does your comment have to anything?

Raise the level man.

1121
Trininfinite,

You say that TnT form is miles ahead of England???

England just beat Argentina in Geneva. I was at the damn match.

While Argentina has the slicker midfield and some talented wing play, England has agruably the MOST powerful, penetrative forward line in the world. Only Brazil in my mind can claim a hotter line up up front. England won that match with sheer forward power. The midfield tackled up and release early balls to the forward who tormented the Argie backline.

Rooney is just plain scary. He scared the crap out of the argies with his runs.

I thought Rooney was just an English tabloid overhype, but when I see him with my own eyes...the bwoy outta class. He would want onto Brazil side. The English Ronaldo.

1122
Andre,

Japan paid the ultimate price e?

Perhaps it was that win that gave Caribbean teams respectability and notice. Japan fully expected to win.

Argentina was not worried as they knew us from before (during a Brazilian stinit with Simoes). Croatia was also a debutante and was overconfident. They got the scare of their life at half time, i can tell you.

The big lesson is NOT to get cocky. Approach the world cup as a huge step up. That is what it is.

JDB,

Why you think that the 100m is a breeze now???

You have Powell and Gatlin tearing up the place Gatlin ran 9.89s and 9.88s this year to back up his 9.85s last year. Asafa ran 9.84s, 9.85s and 9.77s this year (in half a season) to back up his 9.87s last year.

You mad if you think it is an easy passage now. On top of that, you have the 2 Trinis, Frater, Scott, Bigga Thomas, Crawford,Pognan,  and a host of other athlete looking to break through.

Ato did well in his time. He played with the hand he was dealth and I am sure he has little if any regrets.

Infama
Ato, knows I am a big time supporter for years.

1124
Palos,

I dont think many Jakans seriously begrudge TnT their recent success.

Jam. non-qualification has nothing to do with TnT, plus we all know TnT has been close before and lost out on heart-breakers.

Now, however, one needs to keep thing in perspective. ThWC will be tough and the big teams are NOT to be taken lightly.

Stuill and all, count on solid pan Caribbean support, even against England.

After all is said and done, we are cousins and nothing will change that.

Flex, I see where you posted the TnT Nat. Pledge on your home page and after reading I must say that it is very similar to the Jamaican Nat. Pledge...

You guys are funny.

TnT is to be congratulated on a wonderful achievement, but fans need to keep it real. TnT did not waltz into the WCup. Like Jam before them, they qualified by the thiest of margins.

It will be a baptism of fire in the WCup.

I recall the unreasonable expectations of Jakans in 1998, and Argentina and Croatia showed us what big time ball was about.

Thank God we were able to get that first WCup win against Japan. How amny years before S Korea got a win the the WCup????

If TnT comes out with a win, I will be very elated.

1131
I went to 3 matches in France98, two of them were Jamaica matches.

I had tix from 2 years in advance from being French resident. Back  then you could buy a set of 3 matches for a stadum before you knew the draw. I was close to Lyon and bought that and lucked out with a Jam match. The other match I got by buying a tix from a visiting Jakan a week before the match.

Other tix were being sold on the black market thru travel agents, etc. Jam vs Japan was sold out in advance as the Japanese saw this as their chance to win a match and also a lot of them were swindled out of tix by fraudulent tour operators. They were in Europe anyway and were willing to bid up prices for the "soup" match. By the time the match came around, prices fell as Japan could no longer qualify and I got half price for a ticket someone begged me to scalp for them. No bargaining power when the match is about to blow off!!! Especially with police around and scalping being illegal.

In summary, tix prices and availability will depend heavily on the draw and on timing issues. Dont underestimate Jack though, as his posse will make money on selling black market tix like in 1998.

I will be backing TnT next summer to do us all proud. Go Trini!

Hail up Flex,

Please link me via email at wis97non@yahoo.co.uk

I need to ask you for some tech advise.

Nice new site.

Congrats on the T&F showing . TnT stepped up big time. The proof in the pudding though is next year away from home. If TnT can get over 30 medals away, then they can displace the Bahamas a regional number 2. The talent is there to do it for sure.
