Well done on a come back win Kelly! She's showing that she is in solid shape because with no wind that would be a 11.05 and with some wind behind her that would be a sub-11 so well done/ Just keep on at it Kelly!

False starts seem to be becoming an issue with VCB after also nearly being Dq'd at the Jam champs but im sure she will have it sorted by worlds.

I agree with all you said.

Yeh willi that's true but im waiting to see how safp will look on coming back and ks is not back to her best yet but I know your Jamaican girls and athletes in general peak when its needed most so i never count them out. We all know vcb, jeets and myers mean business and lalova getting back to fine form. What burns me is that if she never got injured she would have been a definite contender. At the jam invitational she ran great and her technique improved just the lane deviation held her back from being closer to jeets. Hmmm... well she racing in Reims today. I predict an 11.15/11.20(inside I'm hoping I'm way off). C'mon Kelly go get em.

Shelly was never injured. I spoke with her manager recently.

I thought SAFP was not running in World Champs?

She is defending champ at 100m and will run that. No 200m.

Kellyann has not even run into shape as yet and yet only 4 females have run faster than her this. Fellas I would say that is a scary thing for the rest of the world My money on her this yr at Worlds

She coming off injury, so dont get you hopes up too much.

Plus she will have to handle SAFP,Jeter, VCB, Myers, Kerron Stewart, Ivet Lolova, etc. The competition is stiff.

Cant believe the times this 15 yo kid running for 400M. All he needs now is a good coach and to remain focus and he will surely be a main contender in the seniors in a few years time.

Yeah. I say by next year he will be competing against the seniors. 46.96 at 15 years old...He is on pace to reach 45 by the age of 18. He will surely challenge KJ in the future.

KJ ran 44point at 17.

37
She is probably our best medal hopes now.

In the 100m?

It will be rough...VCB 10.76s today, SAFP, Jeter, SS, Kerron, other Americans...the field is deep.

Cricket Anyone / Re: No Jamaicans.

Its amazing that Jamaica have been champions for 4 years runing but still cannot produce a young player capable of playing for the Windies.I feel sure that had Jamaica adopted the same approach like TT they proabably wont be winning so regular but may produce some good youngsters like TT,it seems their only interest is in winning the championships with older players who have nothing to offer Windes in the future.Jamaicans have always seen themslves as the buzz of the Caribbean and would do anything to win, even it  means virtually no good to the rest of the Windies. The rest of the region s trying with some youngsters and its working,Bim has given us Kirk Edwards,Kraigg Braithwaith (who will soon play) and Roach,Guyana Bishoo and Deonarine,WI and LI have Martin,Powell,Fletcher and Thomas, that says it all. I suppos next year they wil be back with the same old used up old men who will be to good for the youngsters they come up against but would be of no use to aybody else.

What utter garbage! And you post this as a fact. Hilarious.

Barbados really has stepped up their game. Well done to them. Congrats to all of our athletes I hope you keep it up and strive to improve. Trini_2014 I think both Michelle and kai were carrying injuries again that's why they withdrew from the 200 and prob concentrated on the relay. That's also why Jamaica gave us such a beating.

JA has always given us a beating in this TF meet. If my memory serves me right, we have never top the medals chart. Correct me if I am wrong. JA has probably won all 40 edition. Of course they have the talent pool. But they love TF and are committed. Now look at TT. I don't want to bring race in the topic. But who participate mostly in TF in this country. And to make matters worse, we have the second biggest population in the English WI and our talent pool for TF is like the smaller island. B'dos use their 1/2 mill, more effectively than we use our 1.3 mill. But I saw some real good prospects in the boys. Cedeno, Atiba, Landeau and a shot put or javelin. The girls still struggling. Our TF admin. people are failing the girls. Very few progress. We must do more for our female athletes. But all the best and congrats to the whole team.

Bermuda won the first Carifta Games in 1972 (they hosted) and Bahamas won 3 or 4 in the early 1980s. Jamaica has won all the rest.

Update. Forgive me for spreading wrong info...here is the correct story:

Just four countries have won the CARIFTA Track and Field Championships. They are Jamaica, The Bahamas, Bermuda and Martinique.
Jamaica is staggering under the weight of its accomplishments at the CARIFTA level. That country has only been beaten five times. After winning the first three, Bermuda slipped into first in 1975. Then, Jamaica notched four more consecutive wins before The Bahamas took over for two straight years in 1980 and 1981.
Jamaica regained supremacy in 1982 but Martinique rose to the top in 1983 and The Bahamas bounced back in 1984.
On the strength of three victories within the first four years of the decade of the 1980s, The Bahamas can legitimately lay claim to being the best for that period. Jamaica re-claimed the top spot in 1985 and has not looked back since. There has been no need to look back. Jamaica simply established a great divide between itself and all others within the Caribbean region.

Yeh willi I fully know that but you had a team to do that. Let's compare- on first leg Chris. Williams beats our girl hands down. She then had a better pass to deandre to give her a few metres on Michelle. Deandre ran her heart out stayed with Michelle for most of the leg you then you could see Michelle having the upper hand just towards the latter stages then deandre injured herself but soldiered through to still give a great hand off. Your third leg wins. Our third leg runs more 400(hurdles) lost some speed. And shericka is a top anchor as she showed at the champs. But you could blatantly see the big strap on kai selvon leg- she didn't even try. Had she or Michelle not been injured I dare say it would have been a much much closer race between us.

Fair enough, but you do realize that Deandre was just coming back from injury herself. You dont see the real Deandre yet!!! Also the 3rd leg, Celia Walters is our slowest and has poor baton technique.

Still your point is valid, you have 2 high quality runners there.

Rohan Walker is the bigger name, but he was barred from Champs for poor grades and seems to have stop training hard.

A fit walker would have won the sprint double. That is why we call him Skywalker!

What the azzz.

You ALL are a bunch of idiots, tearing each other apart...Yardie and Trini alike!

Disgraceful behaviour over WHAT???

I am so ashamed of ALL of you. Completely unnecessary and uncalled for. No wonder other people cant take us seriously and our Windies cricket team is disrespected. We have no respect for ourselves.

All I can say is woe betide all who face the Windies in this tourney.

If Gayle return with form and Pollard keeps his, we have TWO master blasters on the same side able to destroy all bowling attacks we face. The guys are also sharp in the field.

Windies are my dark horse for this tourney. Wont be easy, but watch the ride!!!

Willi, leh we keep it in perspective nah, yes Holland give England a run fuh de $$, but is Holland, yes Ireland beat England, but is Ireland, yes Bangladesh beat England, but is Bangladesh, two assoc teams and one lowly ranked regular team, note de constant in de above, Hengerland who clearly flounderin rite now.  Yeah, we playin good cricket and I happy dat we have 6 pts and look somewhat assured of a place in de super eights, but jus tryin to keep tings in perspective....

In 1983, India was nothing, but who won the WCup then...beating the "unbeatable" West Indies.

Nah sah, kill mi dead, I am backing my side for this. LoL

I vote Pullhard for man of the match.

Could be, but it was largely team.

No Gayle, no Dwayne Bravo, no Barath and we still did well, despite the young Bravo flop.

The bowlers did well, but Pollard was great with bat and hands.

If they keep this up, we could sneak a surprise WCup title!

Allyuh does get me vex wit dis shit.

Remember 1 from 10 leaves Zero eh.

Actually 1 from ten leaves 9.  ;D

Plus my question was if my T&T can compete well at the WC. Not if they can beat de Rest Indies.

Jam could compete too, but what would be the point? Neither would win the Cup on their own.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Murray: Pollard deserves to bat at number five
« on: March 07, 2011, 09:17:11 AM »

Nicholas Clarke

Former West Indies wicket-keeper Deryck Murray thinks that allrounder Kieron Pollard deserves to bat at number five or higher in One-Day Internationals. The powerful right-hander has come in at number six or lower in 26 of his 31 innings in the format, and even dropped to eighth in the team’s opening match of the World Cup against South Africa last week. However, he was promoted to fifth against the Netherlands on Monday and went on to smash 60 off 27 balls. Murray said that given his ability to score runs quickly, Pollard should be allowed to spend more time at the crease. “It doesn’t help that they’ve put him to bat so late in the innings. It’s ridiculous to have a batsman of Pollard’s potential coming in at number eight. He showed against the Netherlands that he deserves to come in at number five. He can be one of our most explosive batsmen and he needs to face more balls.”

Despite his status as one of the world’s premier Twenty20 cricketers, Pollard has underperformed with the bat in ODIs, averaging 19.54 in 34 matches with just two fifties. He does however, boast a healthy strike rate of 99.01 and has been useful with the ball, taking 31 wickets at 28.70 apiece. Murray said he was pleased to see Pollard finding his feet in the early stages of the World Cup since his form was likely to play a major role in West Indies’ fortunes. “He has come under a lot of scrutiny for his international performances so it’s timely that he should get a good score. Yes, obviously it came against a lesser opponent, but it was still good to see. Let’s hope that he can carry on his momentum from today’s performance  on to the later stages.”

Regarding the West Indies’ selectors’ decision to replace injured allrounder Dwayne Bravo with uncapped Guyanese legspinner Devendra Bishoo, Murray said he would have preferred to see Jamaican allrounder Dave Bernard be given a chance.“It’s an interesting decision. Bishoo’s potentially one of the better prospects in the region but it’s very difficult to see what role he would play in the World Cup, given the composition of the team. I hope that he’s not exposed to the big hitters against India and England without proper guidance and field placement.”

.
