Now they get a decent friendly  :rotfl:

I will believe it only when the Finnish team come out to warm up at the Haseley. Before then, I will not be commenting on it.

I agree... and where was this 1 year ago? 6 months ago?

Who all saw the match last night? Birchie was subbed in around the 63rd minute and did his thing. Also, I'm sure it's been said here before, but I'll say it again: Robbie Keane is a man amongst boys in the MLS.

Good result...but I have one question.

We in a intl tournament, and our uniform doh have a T&T flag, logo insignia, nuttin to indicate is we out there. That black uniform look like they buy it in Francis.

But apart from that...good showing, to score one and have it ruled out and collect a soft penalty (home call) this is an excellent result.
You're correct touches. Reminds me of Jabloteh playing in CONCACAF CL without a club logo on their chest. For these reasons, and far more, people look upon us with scant regard (read contempt?). We done small, poor, from the weakest part of the footballing Americas, and have a bad political image. We can't afford to LOOK disorganized too boot. Agreed - the girls did a fantastic job against Mexico 'though...

I know that at the end of the day, only the scoreline matters, but I was now coming to say the same thing about the uniforms. On the other hand, I eh no fashion expert, but I'll take that simple black kit over that thing Mexico has on anyday. To quote an old coach of mine, look good, feel good...feel good, play good.

Wow- I really didn't understand just how bad that pitch was until I saw this. I could see why our guys didn't play harder- can't blame them for trying to avoid injury in such an easily winnable game.

This is Warner 1st game. He never played any practice match. He was handed the position on what the coaches probably saw on flim.

IDK if a goalie could be match fit, but if that's a factor, he's definitely not match fit.

$15 is a fair price. $25 to $30 for the hex

I agree that around $15 is fair- but for that price, the stream better be in HD so I can watch it on my TV, and also must be smooth as silk- I don't want to see any choppiness or buffering. If you think about it, men pay that much to watch pay-per-view events on cable TV, so it's only fair that they'd be expected to deliver quality content for that price.

I think this more talk about the mentality of young english players. After watching him in the U-20 Trinimassive was right he was the best player. Man was making runs from the RB spot and setting up the 1st assist, and lots of crosses. He was better than Hyland, Primus & Cyrus. Problem is young english players rather play in lower levels of english football rather than abroad. This guy could easily be playing top division ball in sweden or denmark ,but like many others he wont move abroad unless its to a glamour club.

I agree... either that, or he should learn Spanish or Portuguese and move to Spain or Portugal, he'd do just fine there.

This is a clear endorsement of Hyland's talent. Genk are the current champions and face Macaiba Haifa (if I remember correctly) in a play-off for a UCL spot. Would love to see a Trini in the UCL this season.

They play August 23rd.

Lord ah hope dis boy get to play in de MLS yes....ummm, somebody tell meh again why he never feature in de last excuse we had for ah National team, tell me nah!!

What was even more inexplicable is that he saved us from losing to Bermuda, and then he disappeared! I think T&T could make a quality "B" team of decent players who have played for us since 2005, and then just "disappeared" off the national radar. (Randi Patterson, anyone?)
B team? yuh mean A team. latas left out our best players from his team sheet. here's ah list of them.

julius james (until recently when hw noticed that the bums he insisted on was nothing but)
colin samuels (scored in his first game and never featured since)
kendell jagdeosingh (was playing and doing well in the concacaf champions league with PS islander)
khaleem hyland (our best midfielder bar non)
avery john (how could keston williams ever hold a candle to this guy)
darryl roberts ( played on the highest level and scored goals against some of the best teams in the world, and knows how to score)
scott sealy (another experienced goal scorer)
nigel henry ( this guy was playing well in concacaf CL for PR, ah much better choice than andrews)
osie telesford ( was also playing CCL ball @ the time)
lester peltier ( ah kid with quality and skill, if wenger loved this guy then who's latas to ignore)
micah lewis ( another promising player who was hotting up CCL with JP)

this is not no B team, these were some quality players that "coach" latapy blatantly ignored for bums! and i will never forgive him for that, he facked up our football with his BS power triping, glad he turned out to be ah fackin loser. serves him right!

This is a good list of players, and I was even thinking as far back as some of the young guys who got a bligh in the 2007 Gold Cup under Wim, but completely disappeared once he left.

Football / Question for All SWO Referees/Coaches/'Keepers/Smartmen
« on: August 05, 2011, 09:59:28 AM »
So here's a question for the referees/coaches/goalkeepers/football smartmen of SWO. This happened recently during the quarterfinal round of qualifiers for a major local tournament, and has periodically crossed my mind since then.

Our starting keeper was injured some weeks prior, and our reserve portero was badly injured in a collision during extra time. Because I had some formal goalkeeping experience years ago, my coach moved me from RB to 'keeper. Eventually, the game went to a penalty shootout. I guessed wrong on the other team's first penalty, and their second "Baggio'd" over the bar. The third kick is where my question lies...

I correctly guessed "lower right side" on this penalty kick, and dove in that direction. The kick was weak and was placed somewhat higher than I expected, and I ended up swatting at the ball with my right hand. I connected, and the ball bounced a few feet in front of where I landed on the ground. Because of the spin given by the "swat", the ball ended up rolling backwards toward the goal, where I instinctively dove from the ground and saved it a second time. All of this happened within the space of a second or so.

My question is: If I didn't stop the ball the second time, and if the ball had rolled back into the goal after I had already successfully blocked the penalty kick, would that have been considered a goal for the other team? Or was the play "dead" once I blocked the shot the first time?

I know that if this penalty had taken place during regular play, and if the ball had rolled back in, then that would have been considered a goal. But do the rules of penalty shootouts change this? Please weigh in...

I was unable to attend the game, but I had a lot of friends who were there. I was able to watch on television, though, and that second half from Chivas was a thing of beauty, although it was against Barca's youth side.

On a side note, I'm happy that Barca took the "L", though, because Miami is full of Barca fanboys- not the diehard kind of fan who's been supporting Barca all his life, but the kind of fan who has only jumped on the bandwagon since Messi became big. I'm not really a fan of Barca or any other club, but I'm just saying...

Football / Re: Leon joins Colombian club.
« on: August 04, 2011, 08:34:58 AM »
According to Wikipedia, Itagui made history last season by being the first "Primera B" (second division) side to make it to the final of the Colombian Cup (Copa Colombia), where they lost to Deportivo Cali in the final. For those who are familiar with Colombian football, they did it by beating teams like Tolima, Atletico Nacional, Once Caldas, Medellin, and Millonarios in the process. It's a relatively young club (founded in 1991), so there really isn't much other club history to discuss.

That being said, this seems like a nice move for Leon... congrats and good luck to him. After seeing all the Colombians who have came through the Pro League, it's about time that we see a Trini in Colombia. Who knows- maybe he'll be the first Trini to play in Copa Libertadores someday :beermug: (someone please correct me if a Trini has already done this).

General Discussion / Re: Spartacus Workout and other Routines
« on: August 02, 2011, 02:41:47 PM »
I'm not familiar with the Spartacus workout, but it looks interesting, I'll definitely add some elements of it to my regular workout routine...

Late last year, for a month or two, I did a slightly toned-down version of the "300" workout (http://www.menshealth.com/fitness/muscle-building-11) for a couple months to whip my body back into shape after a long gym layoff. I had been balling some, running every once in a while, and was eating somewhat healthily throughout that gym layoff, so doing the "300" routine was more about burning excess fat and building and toning muscle than just getting into shape. Nevertheless, the results were impressive. Since then, I've left some elements of the "300" workout in my regular routine, especially a lot of the circuit elements.

Side Note: Results really began to show when I started to pay better attention to what I was eating and drinking, when I began eating smaller portions several times daily, and also when I started drinking Badia Slimming (Cassia) tea (as suggested by a lady friend of mine, it's at pretty much every store here in Miami) once weekly. I was able to drop about 15-20 lbs to my ideal "fit weight" this way- it only took a matter of months, too.

Although I admittedly peep more than I post, checking SWO is definitely something I look forward to each day. Congrats Flex, and thank you :beermug:

I would like to say thanks to all staff, mods, posters, and anyone else involved with keeping this site going from day to day. I'd like to give a special thanks to all the master ole talkers and SWO legends who make SWO so special, especially men like Touches (for the match reports), Sam (for the stories and "interviews"), Troy Marquis (for all the inspiration through the years) :rotfl:

Now here's a true SWO story for allyuh: In 2009-2010, I was working for an online ad agency where ironically, 2 or 3 days a week for months on end, the internet would disconnect for an hour or two. Since we were dependent on the internet to do, well, everything, most of my coworkers would loiter or fool around the office during this period, except for yours truly, who would always be seen focusing intently on his work, and occasionally having a laugh or two (you know, because I was enjoying number-crunching SO much ;)).

...Little did they know that somehow, someway, I was able to access SWO on my office computer while our internet was out, so most of the time that I was "working" during disconnections, I was actually just catching up on all the forums! Long story short, my extra "work" played a part in helping me to get promoted to department head @ that company! Thanks SWO!!!  ;D

Speaking of 'keepers...

(disclaimer: I don’t endorse flopping, but every once in a while when it’s done well as a part of gamesmanship, when it’s not excessive, or when T&T or a team I’m playing on is doing it, I feel the need to applaud it sometimes… doh judge meh! ;D )

I don’t know if anyone else picked up on this, but one thing I noticed about the Honduras-Mexico match was the “gamesmanship”/mental part of the game, which Mexico clearly had a better grasp of.

By the 80th minute of the match, with the score 0-0, momentum had clearly shifted toward Honduras. By the last 3 minutes of regulation, Honduras’ attack was finally clicking for the first time, and the Mexican defense was looking scrappy. Honduras forced an amazing save from Mexico’s goalkeeper and seemed bound to score in the final minutes. In the 90th minute (with 3 minutes added time to go) after “colliding” with a Honduran attacker, the Mexican ‘keeper flopped, faked injury, and stayed on the ground for 3 minutes until the end of stoppage time. Honduras’ coach realized what happened and was livid. By the first few minutes of extra time, momentum had clearly reversed in favor of Mexico, Honduras seemed to have checked out mentally, and as they say, the rest is history. Long story short, although I was rooting for Honduras, that play by the Mexican 'keeper was one of the smartest “professional” flops I’ve ever seen.

I cant really understand why it seems these Tragedy always seem to follow footballers. Just the other day I was saying to myself that there must be some Caribbean (JAmaican) blood in this fella, just like the many other footballers with JAmaican connections from the Limon area of Costa Rica.

He has joined a long line of prominent footballers in the region who have died via this route

  • Peter Cargill (JAmaica)
  • Steve Shortie Malcolm (JAmaica)
  • Mickie Trottman (T&T)
  • Winston Anglin (Jamaica)
  • Dennis Marshall (Costa Rica)

They must be forming quite a formidable team up there in heaven

Don't forget Costa Rican forward Wayne Wilson, who died in 2005 after the best season of his career. He was actually driving home to Limon when it happened.

Jamaica is playing marvelous football . I  lookingfoward to seeing the JA Honduras clash. Jamaica reaching finals and possibly winning it all.. go reggae boyz .. keep the caribbean flag flying high.. I watch the second half and I could swear I saw JA strang about 30 passes together before guatemala even got close to the ball. Am jealous but gave jack he jacket.. good going boyz I wid you on this one....

war

I was at the game and trust me- by that time, Guatemala and their supporters had all but given up on the game- which I didn't understand, because at that point they were only down 2-0 with over 10 mins left. The thing that shocked me about JA was the discipline exhibited by the team- they could have played like a typical Caribbean side and tried to only boom-kick and out-athleticize GUA the whole way through, or they could have tried to add the typical agressive physical element all the way through like you'd expect from JA, but instead played a refined "short pass, short through-ball" game that will see them go far in this tournament. Kudos to their coach for that.

As for Grenada- they could have actually stayed in the game if they had learned to defend the flanks. The only time they were in the game was he first 25 mins or so when the Honduran midfielders weren't moving outside at all. Costly is slow like molasses with only a left foot- Honduras is missing the likes of Pavon and Suazo bad. Also, the short dreadlocks guy who subbed in for Honduras is a cut above the rest of his team- I'm going to keep an eye on him in time to come.

The American football lines on the field inside Monterrey's stadium made me do a double take... Many people forget that Mexico has a popular American football league.

They do? Serious? Never knew that.  ???

Yeah- it's actually a college football league that has 3 divisions, similar to American college football. If I’m not mistaken, the champion actually meets an American Division III side in a bowl game each year.

Real talk though, how come no one has mentioned Carlos Edwards in central midfield spot? If I recall correctly, he fit well in that position the last time he played for T&T. He is definitely the most intelligently creative player T&T has right now, unless Latas decides to un-retire again.

Whoever put this vid on youtube probably ripped it from the carnivaltv.net/advance dynamics feed, which was a blessing for those of us abroad. Great video quality and good sound quality- TERRIBLE announcers.

As far as London's second tune went- it could have been better, but IMO having to perform after Benjai was really the killer. I wonder how it would have sounded at its original calypso pace, instead of the rushed soca tempo that London employed.
