Football / Re: Leave Jack Warner alone! says Earl "Mango" Pierre
« on: October 29, 2008, 03:18:26 AM »
Coop's...yuh sure yuh doh go by dah name in de US?  ;D

Source: Trinidad Guardian

It is amazing how Jack Warner is being blamed for the state of our football in this country says Earl “Mango” Pierre, president of the T&T Football Players Association in Brooklyn, New York.

After reading the recent newspaper article by ex-national coach Everard “Gally” Cummings, Pierre said he had to agree with “Gally” to a certain extent but he blamed individuals like himself (Gally), Warren Archibald, Leroy de Leon, Steve David, Noel “Sammy” Llewellyn and Ron La Forest and other great players like themselves who did not start the Players Association in T&T a very long time ago.

These former nationals knew the individual (Jack) that they were dealing with and it took 16 players last year to stand up for what is right.

Some of the other players did not revolt because Jack has them in his pocket. All this madness with the football would not have been taking place if these players like Gally stated the Players Association.

I understand that Gally is hurting because he is no longer considered to be part of the T&T Football Federation (TTFF) national coaching staff, and if we had qualified in 1989, none of this would have been said.

Like all the others, he would have been a hero, made his money, and said nothing.

Gally also has to understand great coaches get fired for one reason or the other so he should not take it so personal.

One thing I agree with him on is that all great players, or all former national players, should be given a pass for life to attend the matches.

Gally also has to remember that it was not Jack Warner who was the coach of the Strike Squad in 1989. He was the one who coached the team and made the decision not to play our No 1 goalkeeper Earl “Spiderman” Carter, our No 1 midfielder Hudson “Baba” Charles and forward Maurice Alibey. I still can’t understand Gally’s move, after following the team during the qualifications, and to Los Angeles where I witnessed a great come back to draw the match against the Americans.

And, of course, Hudson “Baba” Charles scoring the goal and after running straight to me in the stands to get the jersey off my back that I had promise to give to him if he had scored the goal. This was normal of me because I love to give players incentives.

How can any coach leave out the best playmaker on the team? Why did Leo Beenhakker leave out the little “Magician” Russell Latapy, our No 1 player and playmaker, as well?

In the return match on November 19, 1989, when I saw the line-up and Carter was not in goal and “Baba” and Alibey not on the field, I told Tansley Thompson my good friend who was standing next to me that something was wrong ..... that was not the team that gave the Americans a run for their money.

My question was how can a team be changed up so drastically in such a short space of time. Up to this day, I still believe that we sold out the match.

Thanks to Jack and the position that he has in FIFA, we made it to the 2006 World Cup, and, if he recently said that we are going to South Africa, we are going.

Pierre said that he hopes that the match T&T won against America a fortnight ago, broke that jinx that they (the Americans) had on us for so many years.

The only problem I have with Jack is that if he promise the players money give them what was promised. I only hope that the players wouldn’t take Jack’s word for granted in the future, but rather let him put it in writing and sign on the dotted line.

Players should be the centre of all activities and they should be first in almost everything.

Thanks to TTFF, and Gally back in 1989, they brought a real World Cup atmosphere to our country and I will never forget that experience when I also took part by demonstrating my skills with the ball at half time - I did it for the team and the love that I always had for Gally, whom I consider as one of the best players I have seen locally. I must say ‘one must never bit the hands that feed you’.”

As I said before, our football is in a mess and we need to put aside our differences and work together for the future of our children, grandchildren, flag and country.

Let us not allow petty jealousies, rumours and squabbles create a rift which evil forces can use to destroy us all. Let us all commit ourselves to seeking that which is for the common good. For if individual and selfish desires are allowed to cloud our sense of unity and judgment the outcome will be collective destruction. Let us always remember that the courage of our convictions will enable us to reach the desired goal no matter how distant it may seem.

The road may be long and rocky, the climb may be high and steep but if we persevere, we shall overcome all the obstacles and we shall get there sooner than we think.

Earl “Mango” Pierre

« on: October 27, 2008, 12:34:27 PM »
How about all of the above. It have plenty people who would love to have Jack rank - but very few who have what it takes to walk in his shoes. Plenty men could talk, write and say that they would do this and that differently, but put them in the same boat, with the same temptations and replicate the corporate culture - and the result will be the same, if not worse.

We does see it right in Trini .... one corrupt politician being replaced by an even more corrupt one - no matter how many promises are made that they will steer the ship correctly. How many times have we heard "Is we time now!" ?? .... or "If dey tief, we could tief too!!"

Don't get me wrong ... sometimes the decisions you may have to make to see you firm/ company advance may not always be morally correct in everyone's eyes ..... but ask them who they would put in place of Jack - and GUARANTEE that person will never transgress, bend or break rules.
I have tried to say something similar to what you have said but all you get is ridicule from members of this board all the same I would like to commend your post.

We like to think we big in Trinidad but we still have ah "small island" mentality, the Govt. is no help they are the most ineffectual of all the major agencies in the little "banana republic" we call Trinidad.Just look at de crime figures and if anybody want to tell me its not Govt. fault den tell whose fault it is.I still love TT but if ah doh feel safe walking on our main streets den I doh care to take part in our little successes in meh island.I go enjoy it in England where ah cyah get killed by a bulet or be kidnapped for what ah got and ah got plenty to looze so me aint taking no chance.

Both Mex and Hon know that the best result for both is a stalemate...a draw, that rules out Jamaica unless they can score an 8 -0 win against Canada.Dont write off Canada just yet, they have the players to beat anybody in CONCACAF and is due a good match. They looked good against Mexico recently, remember too the Spanish speaking teams always help out each other.I remember only too well how Costa Rica tried to help Guatemala but they didn't figure on us beating Mexico.

« on: October 13, 2008, 02:22:11 AM »
I agree whole-heartedly,ah know he took we there but we may have got a draw with England and may have even beaten Sweden and Paraguay. The man was head coach and if he played him and tings didn't go to plan then he could substitute him, wah wrong wid dat.He (Beenie) only showed what he could achieve by taking us there and get results that say look what I can do,the world took note and look where he is now.He put out a defensive minded team so as to avoid getting beat badly and at the same time showcasing himself to Europe once more.To have left out the best player that ever play for TT was a big mistake,it was sin and Beenie should never be forgiven.

Lets get this right,no one is disputing the fact that Mexico is the best but they just haven't looked the team we know they can be,they were below par against Jamaica and if they play like that against Honduras they would be beaten, that would be bad for the Yard.Yes both TT and Yard messed up with their selection policy and that is why we are where we are presently.I still hope that both teams get through but realistically TT stands a better chance although you can never make judgements in sports.

That win for Jamaica was expected because Mexico have not lived up to their reputation as top dogs in the region. They have won their matches but none were really convincing as you would normally expect.I dont expect a glut of goals from them but their victories were were not comfortable ones, the kind we know about.I feel Honduras could beat them, that would end the Yard's dream.Just a little mention bout TT,if we continue to play like we did yesterday then we could take a point off the USA or even beat them, the latter seems quite possible,a big win against the Cubans is expected. We are almost there.

Has Cyd got a brain,he already got a yellow and is quite aware of the ref favouring the home side, the tackle was not necessary, all he had to do was stay on the fella coz he was going nowhere.Cyd just give the ref the oppurtunity to send him off.Brains is also required in footballand Cyd always looks likely to be sent off whether he get the ball or not.

I do hope to meet up with you soon Midknight, yuh might then have a good opinion of me, its a shame the Summer is over anyway there is plenty time and I'll invite yuh down to my place soon.I do have my views about God and relegion but I can assure you that I live to the letter of the law and treat everybody with respect.A friend once asked me what was my religion and I said none,I also told him that I dont believe in God,the next day promptly I heard that my father had drowned in Trinidad,I still haven't changed,I think I am in need of proof about his existance.I would be doing my own kind of pray when we take the field at 3 am,as ah say ah hope yuh accept an invite to my place and meet the family.Regards!

Midknight leh meh say dis,I was never fooled by any kind of religious institution, religion of any does not get to me in any way.Say yuh prayer if it meks yuh happy,it doh do nothing fuh me.I have never really expounded my views on football coz its really very simple.I like to see 10 outfield players all playing for each other with a midfield who can at least hold on to a football to give defenders some breathing space and frontmen a chance to find open spaces,I dont mind seeing my teams drop into defensive position when we loose de ball.Simple!Wah wrong wid dat?Any formation would do as long as the team understand it.Is Shep.Bush to your liking?I have a gyul fren living dey she is half Trini. 8)

« on: October 10, 2008, 02:07:41 AM »
I am amazed that people are questioning the fact that the man was in Trinidad, arnt people supposed to come to Trinidad? The fact remains and is clear to see that we are a violent society where even us Trinis cannot walk the main Streets of our main cities no more. What a sad indictment of our people, our so called people have just chopped to death a Swedish couple to death and just recently a German was killed in POS,ROBBERY WAS THE REASON.The mexican visitor can consider himself lucky that he wasn't stabbed to death. We as a small nation must depend on the outside world and so give a good picture of ourselves,we wont always have oil and gas so sooner or later we would be begging tourists to come and put some cash in our empty coffers.I can only describe some of  the people who commit such crimes as HYENAS who should not be allowed near human habitation, they belong to the bush, the jungle where they can eat each other. There is no doubt that when we run out of all our so called riches we would be eating each other.

Welcome on board and enjoy your stay, years ago South Trinidad had 2 brilliant Scotsmen that played for South Trinidad,Ronald Grey and Bob Dewar. There were a few others that played for the oilfield teams,I can recall one that played for Texaco Robert Clyde, many came as engineers and stayed. My father is half Scottish. There is a place in South Trinidad called Corinth and quite a high percentage of the people have Scottish blood, this goes back to 19th century. My father was also an engineer and once brought 2 Scottish engineers to our home, they then proceeded to drink 2 bottles of Rum and taught us Scottish Country dancing, they had the records in their car.One of the songs I remember is ,I am a Dundee weaver.Enjoy your stay.
