General Discussion / The Richest Man in History

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/world-history/meet-mansa-musa-i-of-mali--the-richest-human-being-in-all-history-8213453.html

Meet Mansa Musa I of Mali – the richest human being in all history
A new study has produced an inflation-adjusted list of the richest people of all time.

When we think of the world’s all-time richest people, names like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and John D Rockefeller immediately come to mind.

But few would have thought, or even heard of, Mansa Musa I of Mali – the obscure 14th century African king who was today named the richest person in all history.

With an inflation adjusted fortune of $400 billion, Mansa Musa I would have been considerably richer than the world’s current richest man, Carlos Slim, who ranks in 22nd place with a relatively paltry $68 billion.

The list, compiled by the Celebrity Net Worth website, ranks the world’s 24 richest people of all time. The list advertises itself as the top 25, but only 24 names appear in the list.

Although the list spans 1000 years, some aspects of wealth appear consistent throughout history; there are no women on the list, only three members are alive today, and 14 of the top 25 are American.

The list uses the annual 2199.6 per cent rate of inflation to adjust historic fortunes – a formula that means $100 million in 1913 would be equal to £2.299.63 billion today.

Mansa Musa I ruled West Africa’s Malian Empire in the early 1300s, making his fortune by exploiting his country’s salt and gold production. Many mosques he built as a young man still stand today.

After Mansa Musa I death in 1331, however, his heirs were unable to hang on to the fortune, and it was substantially depleted by civil wars and invading armies.

Second on the list are the Rothschild family, whose descendants are still among the richest people on the planet. Starting out in banking in the late 18th Century, Mayer Amschel Rothschild’s finance house accumulated a total wealth of $350 billion. The money has since been divided between hundreds of descendants, many of whom are business leaders today.

Meanwhile John D. Rockefeller, third on the list, is the richest American to have ever lived, worth $340billion in today's USD at the time of his death in 1937.

In comparison, the poorest man on the list is 82-year-old Warren Buffett, who at his peak net worth, before he started giving his fortune to charity, was $64billion.

Here’s the full list of the ‘24 richest people of all time’:

1. Mansa Musa I, (Ruler of Malian Empire, 1280-1331) $400 billion

2. Rothschild Family (banking dynasty, 1740- ) $350 billion

American vets are finding jobs in Canadian Oilfields. Thanks to obama's 70,000 pages of regulations and an over increase of 1.7 trillion (including obamacare) in new regulatory cost, when he wins will inherit the greatest deficit and debt in US history coupled with the lowest start up businesses, failing energy production from reliable sources, far less industrial production and the highest tax increase in history! Did you see his explanation on Letterman about the Bond Market and the Debt and Deficit... this man is a joke with a capital "J"! Look how brilliant QE3 worked!

Canada is a great place to do business! Keep up the good work especially making good beer! (Steamwhistle  :beermug:) Love all the development that Toronto is doing (too much glass though) and thanks for Sending TD to save some of our Banks!

BOSTON DYNAMICS BIG DOG

It is a quadruped robot that walks, runs, and climbs on rough terrain and carries heavy loads. BigDog is powered by a gasoline engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. BigDog’s legs are articulated like an animal’s, and have compliant elements that absorb shock and recycle energy from one step to the next. BigDog is the size of a large dog or small mule, measuring 1 meter long, 0.7 meters tall and 75 kg weight.

Dear SW Family-

In July when Touches posted this video on the "too much advantage thread" I was appalled. I decided to do a search on youtube of videos on these guys. There were 3 more, one of them assaulting "kicking in the balls" of a young man asleep in a park. Boots in up a homeless man during the curfew! The last one of a "spranger" (according to the video) tapping, punching kicking and choking the victim. This was a regular trend for these individuals.

I decided to take apart the videos frame by frame (screen shot) and I enhanced the videos, clearly showing the face of the assailants (security guards) Word for word, I captioned the video. From the collection of videos, I was able to decipher the individuals, their location and their place of employment. I have a childhood friend who is a higher up in the Chaguanas Police Station, (if it was not for me giving him lessons in english and math, he'd be a spranger also) I sent him the photos, the footage on DVD and a transcription of the video.

My childhood friend said that there was nothing he could do, since no one filed a complaint. I said ok, so if someone murders an individual and no one files a complaint, then the murderer should in effectively go free. We have not spoken since.

Why did I do it? My uncle was killed in a similar fashion 3 years ago.

It's truly a sad state to see security and police treating "citizens" of trinidad and tobago.

Sincerely

Chris "daft trini"

Draft, yuh serious?! People safety comes first!

Yes, I was in Charlotte, Monday, and OBX last week, fished the sound and the Atlantic, there was call for rain 30-50% of the time, if the rain fell it fell during 3-6pm. Not during his acceptance speech. While we were in charlotte, we had no problem to find a room either, because the turn out was so low for the convention.

Here's Lt Gov. Dalton saying the "thrill is gone"

Seven stats facing the black voter:

27 percent of black Americans now live in poverty, a two percent increase since 2009.

According to last month’s Bureau of Labor Statistics report, the unemployment rate for black Americans now stands at a staggering 14.1 percent, a figure well above the already high national unemployment rate of 8.3 percent.

White Americans now have 22 times more wealth than black Americans, a figure that has nearly doubled during the recession. According to the Census, in 2010, media household net worth for whites totaled $110,729. For blacks, the figure was $4,995.
From June 2009 to June 2012, real median annual household income for blacks fell 11.1 percent from $36,567 down to $32,498. The drop for whites was 5.2 percent and 4.1 percent for Hispanics.

According to the Census, 26.4 percent of households who report receiving food stamp assistance are African American, despite the fact that black Americans constitute just 13 percent of the total population.

A study by the AARP found that home foreclosure rates for African American borrowers over the age of 50 were almost double those of whites.

High school graduation rates, which strongly influence income and job hiring, continue to vary widely by race. A recent study found the following on-time high school graduation rates: 91.8 percent of Asian students, 82 percent of whites, 65.9 percent of Hispanic students, and 63.5 percent of African American students.

Isn't that what GWB was etting up and Romney coming now to solidify. Please..........stueps

These are the stats that are pertinent to the black voter, even if they are voting for BHO or Mittens... but as Joe Biden said “He is going to let the big banks once again write their own rules, unchain Wall Street.  He is going to put y'all back in chains." I'm sure every republican voter is looking for their personally chained democrat!  :beermug:

Ribbit-

Krugman is a joke just like the NYT, that he's a writer for:

The NYT is always trumpeting his economics, but when business is bad for the NYT, they abandon his Keynesian approach and adopt the Romney's Bain plan. Just look at their last attempt to make the Co. profitable, did they spend more, hire more, double down on keynesian? hell no!

Krugman in a nutshell: You have a pond, you take 1000 buckets of water out of that pond, walk to the other side and pour it back in 1 bucket at a time, 1000x's, then you pat yourself on your chest and say yes it's 1000 times fuller! He won a noble prize for that! What really upsets him is that in his best word smithing faculty lounging existence; in America, any johnny hick hayseed can take no education, become a millionaire and billionaire and still make more than his creepy ass. This dude hate's free markets and private enterprise.
