We does be crying down Latapy hands down round here, Dis fella is even worse than Latapy at what he does. Or I never understood the position. now I know plenty going and jump out de box and talk bout how LP hands was tied. to that I'd say Latas as well. If Latas is guilty of going into battle with a team that was technically inferior  then the TD- The Technical Director shoulda spot this first and do things to rectify the situation. Chances are he became a yes man just as Latas did and took de bait bout how we could do it with an all local team. Ah not here tryin to say Latas was not a backside for believing de hype but I am here to say dat LP is a bigger back-side for rubber stamping de hype. I think Look Loy would make a great TD in the mold of LP. ;) ;) but then so would my granny who loss she tongue in a hunting accident.

LP was not the TD he was the Technical Advisor and was paid by the govt not the TTFF. Wasn't it during Wim's tenure he was relieved of his responsibilities? He identified the need to work with the youth team and Anton now has that portfolio if I am not mistaken. TTFF take they ball and out the man to spectate on the side lines. The man has been working on the Coaching badges. I think the gov't do him a favor by releasing him. Trinis always complaining about the brain drain but this is how it does happen. Men does come home call a spade a spade and then get put in a corner cause pep doh like what they saying.

You cant be serious about playing Jones as a CB.

So u want to take a "proven" premier league striker and play him as a CB because he used to play CB as a U17 and he could jump high?  What about positional play?

So if John Terry injured, Capello should play Peter Crouch in de back? Cause he cud jump high too? Ent? lol

Gino, this is de most amount a nonsense i ever hear.........lol

mr 3000

i understand his manager may object to KJ playing any position beyond centre mid, however, last campaign KJ didn't do squat for our national team as striker

i say pfister will give him 2 friendlies and a few qualifying matches to prove he will be effective as our centre forward

if he fails, he needs to be moved to a position where he best serves the team. and its not because he can jump high and that garbage your alluding to.

KJ can be a world class central defender, naturally hes not a striker and never will be.

You watch the man game recently? The man like Crouch. Teams need to start playing the ball to his feet. Mix up the one dimensional use of him. No player can be judged by the last campaign because we did not have any plan going into these games. We play amateur hit and hope football. Everybody look bad.

I seeing real positives in this  approach. With the  way the team was playing we couldn't get a game against a game against anybody but Caribbean opposition. With the FIFA ranking that we have right now trialing a TnT player is a definite waster of time and money. Men watching game and saying this fella looking good but the rest of the team pulling his stones. Well now we would know if the men we thought was looking good actually good or not. The better locals will at least get a more consistent run at the higher level because we might actually be able to get decent games and advance in a competition. When better players on the scene all the star boys will actually have to show up and play. Competition for spots will force men to raise they level of play. The professional environment men was begging to get created will happen automatically cause now we will be dealing with professionals. Sponsors and fans would be interested in the football again. We might actually do it to the Reggae bunch and get some humility from them.

What were the pitfalls again?

Coaching is key. I will always use Cyd as my example. One coach turn this man from a defensive liability and a head case to a starter men wanted to see play. That 06 team was not our most talented on paper but it was the best coached. Coaching has a lot to do with how a team performs.

First thing Beenie worked on was fitness. Then before the WC we played way above our weight class and get real licks going in. Men was afraid of the scores we would have collected. That is why we as a nation was so impressed by what any other nation would consider a poor performance. We knew the results that the team was getting and honestly scraping fourth place in CONCACAF, past Bahrain and then to go and draw points from Sweden and hold England for so long was commendable hence why the whole nation is proud of the team.

The fact that the U-20 couldn't beat Cuba a fellow Caribbean team who definitely has less resources is not acceptable though. Why can't our teams get good preparation from the get go. Why we have to scrape through CONCACAF and then get games in preparation for the big show? Why not get good preparation from jump. This U-17 and U-20 as well as senior crop missed great opportunities to pick up experience against decent opponents by not getting at least further into the qualifying. This has set them way behind the heavy hitters in CONCACAF. Couple this with the fact that the everyday practice and games at a lower standard than the CONCACAF big teams and  we would have to agree that the fact the senior team doesn't get more routed in games in the hex is amazing.  Then again overseas player is our crutch.

The reason why our players blossom late is because it does take them way longer than other countries to get the exposure they need. When men learning the job on senior team duty you can only expect the senior team to be competitive at best every 12 years.  It seems like 16 is our number though. With the right coaching some of these same youth men might come good in 12-16 yrs time (putting them around 30-something). That sounds about par for our players. So 2026 here we come. Then again foreign born players might mash up this equation and may have to be our lifetime plaster for the sore that is T&T football.

Look Loy's assessment of the state of our football seems spot on for the most part.  I have two problems with what he said though.

Firstly he stated that development of the players is the responsibility of the clubs and he used Brazil and the Dutch systems. What he fails to acknowledge is that the clubs in these systems are very profitable and have a history to build on. They know what works and what doesn't. Our PFL clubs are doing the same thing these other clubs are doing it is just that they don't have the $ or the exposure so they doing what they know to be best. Clearly it is not working. If the TTFF does not take more ownership of the development of our players we will remain stagnant. There is mutual benefits for the clubs and the TTFF. Better players means export to better leagues. This results in a better player pool and money for the clubs.

Secondly he stated that we need facilities and pointed to the fact that men training in the Savannah and don't have proper changing rooms. This should not be a major deterrent to the development of talent. What does this have to do with the quality of instruction on the pitch and work ethic? If players and the coaching staff want it bad enough the Savannah is all they need. Coaching staff need to go to the Coaching academy and raise the intensity and quality of training. It is well known in sports that you play how u train. When I see the training sessions that Fuentes and NE starts post I see cut tail book before the game start.

We need to put our best developmental coaches at the youth levels. Training for Hard back men should not consist of crossing and shooting drills.

I think this team passing better than the senior team though. Had a couple spot on wing changes and passes out the back to an actual player. Ok pressure wasn't there but even in the same situation seniors wasn't making the pass. If somebody could get them to run into spaces earlier and pick up the tempo of their game (which is a lot to ask) they might have something to offer. Corners being whipped in as opposed to some of the ballooning corners we see with the seniors.

Playing not to lose the ball and to keep shape killing the team individual creativity. Nobody want to go at the opposing players. No risk no reward. I see worst. The real gauge is Mex.

The song nice but I don't think it ready for an international market. I Trini and I find, initial listen, the lyrics hard to catch. Patrice song on the riddim easier to understand (auto tune??). With the correct video it probably would be a better fit for Coca Cola internationally.

That said sneaking this in the football section a lil ambitious.

Fenwick: It would be an honor to lead the Soca Warriors.
By: Inshan Mohammed.

SWO - We as fans want to see attractive, constructive and determined football. If you got the job as T&T head coach what difference would you make and what new ideas will you be bringing to the table.
TF: - I would restore National Pride in our football and qualify for all the important competitions, World Cup and Gold Cup!  My passion for the game, coaching ability and determination would come shining through in my teams. T&T are fed up with mediocrity and failure, I would change that!

Terry does not think he will get this job. No coach in their right mind knowing the situation with the TTFF would make these kinda promises with out setting conditions and a timeline. Right now the man politicking, talking with water in his mouth.  Why didn't he answer the question and state tangible differences and new ideas?

Fenwick: It would be an honor to lead the Soca Warriors.
By: Inshan Mohammed.

SWO - Do you feel you have what it takes to make our local players better? In other words, can you bring them up to the international standard?
TF: - Flex, we are producing top quality players here in T&T, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!  Our deficiencies are in coaching and our ability to get the message across. My knowledge, coaching ability and discipline would reap rewards…… Players enjoy working in a professional environment; I would do my best to provide that for my players.

The follow up question should have been regarded expectations for Jabloteh in the CONCACAF Club Championship.

Football / Re: Editorial: Why is Fenwick so obsessed with coach Latapy ?
« on: December 03, 2010, 05:32:33 PM »
What has Fenwick achieved with Jabloteh outside of Trinidad? Fenwick has shown a knack for picking and grooming young talent. That warrants him talking about the youth teams. If Fenwick really cared about our football he can start formulating a plan to develop young talent. Let him work with coaches in the North South East, West and Tobago. Let them start screening and developing young players to feed into the Jabloteh system. Start a zonal based  tournament. Heck make a reality show with youth being chosen for Jabloteh youth teams. This would expose TV viewers to coaching techniques and  drills.  Long term look to invite team from region and keep expanding till it reaches a stage where the final phase competition would be worth scouting by big clubs. This would be more productive than bumping his gum.

Until Jabloteh make a splash in CONCACAF he need to only be offering positive advice and comments.

Why does it matter what he or Jabloteh have achieved? Is either his comments are valid or not.

Well said tallman!!!

You know I wonder about some of these posters please think before you post!!!!

I thought it out before I post.

How do we determine if his comments are valid unless we look at what he  has achieved. By their fruits you would recognize them. All Trini clubs look amature in CONCACAF Chanmpionships. The problem with Trinis is we like to talk and listen to old talk. Latapy put himself in a bad spot because he had no previous track record for us to judge him on.  Fenwick have one. He got fired after 7 games in England. Come trini to be a big fish in small pond. When he leave Trini pond and go out what happens?  How do we know that  is not the team that can't follow Latas instructions?  Spotting and developing talent does not qualify you as a good coach. What is the sense fighting down Latas in the media if he not willing to step up and offer his services.

Latas never developed the defensive side of his game. If he never saw the need as a player how can he now teach defense as a coach? By their fruits you would recognize them.

Youth development is for youth teams. Blooding players is for friendlies. In competitive games you field your best available players.

Someone who has worked to figure something out is better prepared to explain how to reach his level of achievement. If you not technically gifted you have to be an excellent student of the game to hang with the big boys. When your technical ability is high you only have to show and let stuff work itself out on the field. Play to the coaches instruction and you set.

People who to gifted never make good teachers in any realm of life and that has a lot to do with mentality. Smart people never think their method of teaching is flawed.   They usually put it down to the student being  slow and they try to hammer home the message. Average people have to look for different ways to learn achieve and come to the realization that not every teaching style is appropriate for the situation. When they teach they try to meet the student where they are.

Our players may need to learn by repitition. They will respond based on the stimuli and muscle memory. Technically gifted palyers adapt and create new solutions to problems on the fly.

TTFF need to hire someone like Klinsman to consult on the National setup but the questions is who going to pay. I don't think PFL could afford a consultant of this caliber. If we really love TT football so much we should raise the funds, devise the plan and approach the PFL. I can't see them saying no to a gift horse.

...
We have real talented players in T&T... real players... it's about a professional setup for the fellas to work from...
...

Do we really have these real talented players in T&T?  I agree that fighting spirit and professional setup is not there but I don't think that is the whole problem.  The Trinbago definition of talent is where our football starts going wrong. A man could drag players and cap a few men and he real talented. Mind you his fitness, movement off the ball, vision and distribution piss poor, but yet still he real talented. Yes all of these deficiencies can be improved but it not happening cause everybody have the same problem to the extent it does not look like a problem. When we leave the country however it does start to show.  Kenwyne have real talent but I watch him play a few times this season and his movement off the ball sometimes dispicable. We call Carlos a Rolls Royce and yet the man playing on the winger and his crossing sometimeish.

Trini ballers suffer from overhyped expectations and a misunderstanding of what it really takes to cut it at the highest level.

Football / Re: Silvio Spann
« on: October 12, 2010, 05:21:54 PM »
Weary Signature is so applicable to Spann and so many other players . In SSFL days  Spann along with Joel Bailey, Jorsling, McKnight, Jayce Peters, Ricardo Johnson etc. looked like they had a very promising future.  At least Spann career still in progress. I wish him the best of luck. I am sure many other forumites can list players who were stars in SSFL and their career after never took off. Are they "early" (for Trinbago standards) bloomers or are they just the best of mediocre crops?

53
"Bigger" coaches with "better" players have not been able to stop those momentary lapses of judgment on the part of TnT's defense. Maybe the locals not coachable. Maybe the TTFF give Latapy a mandate to play all locals cause the purse strings close. Before we call for the man head can we please get an interview and pose questions to him to see what is going on.

Instead of being critical maybe we can try to be constructive. We are the victim of our culture. There is no quick fix to the problem that is our national team. The engine bad. Eventually the engine going to need an overhaul. We could pay and get over sized rings which  will make the car work for a short while or we can take the time and money and get the engine done right now.

Maybe the Warrior Nation can buy some youth development DVD's and get them to the coaches of the SSFL teams. Maybe we can interview Birchall to see how much extra work he puts in after practice. Heck Beckham in the US. Somebody link Birchie and ask him to get Becks to do a ten minutes on how much work he used to put in.

Can we do something positive instead of just being crabs in barrel.

For the record I don't think Latas can be a good coach right now  because as a player he never focused on playing defense. On teams that have a ball winner (Yorke 06)  in the middle and a solid back line a creative player can be allowed to do as he please. When a team lacking, every player has to play for the team and contribute on both sides of the ball. Maybe Latas need to lose a little to get the memo. He can't see Birchall's worth because he wants to play an attacking brand. TnT not built for speed. We need to dispossess the other team and play for individual moments of brilliance.

54
Beenie is a plaster for ah sore. We don't need a coach to coach the internationals only. We need a coach who would commit to our program's long term development. A good leader enacts succession planning. Maybe he did with Wim but neither of them address the real problem we had. In his defense he was paid to be the trauma surgeon. We need to find some one to do the rehabilitation now.

In my little knowledge TnT never had a strong solid back four. It always had a heart attack man in the back. Maybe the TD needs to do a coaching program specifically geared to this so that we can start a pipeline from young . If somebody could pull a few links and get a defensive specialist to come for 6 months and do some knowledge transference it will do us a whole lot of good.

Men looking at one side of the coin. If more of these guys stay in Trinidad it would be to the benefit of Trinidad and too all players after them indirectly. If they as good as the universities believe, they will be assets to our youth teams, especially the Olympic squad. If the youth can train together and start achieving more, scouts will start looking in our direction more. It could also benefit the level of the PFL. This would benefit the players.

If all the good players leave the shores each year the competitiveness of the league cannot improve. When players know it have youth men waiting for their spot. Training harder than them. The level of the game will step up. We will start doing better in Concacaf Champions League.

As one man say if he doh make it as a pro he could go UTT. Private sector and government need to help place our sports people at the end of their careers once they qualified. It have real men scratching in Gov't jobs who never represented their school, community or  country.
