did you know this?

This week The Pundit looks at three 'kings' of the lesser known scoring methods

Goals, assists and clean sheets dominate the weekly pointscoring and our transfer decisions are usually taken with these in mind. However, there are - of course - many other ways of seeing your weekly total receive a welcome boost or take a demoralising hit.

The Bonus Boys
Bonus points are always a welcome addition to a weekly score and it seems those who receive them can be split into two camps - the eye-catching showmen or the never-say-die 101 per cent-ers.

The first camp is dominated by the game's big names, with Frank Lampard the undefeated bonus champ with 39 - head and shoulders above everyone else. Gareth Barry, Mikel Arteta, Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo make up the midfield glamour top five and all have more than 20 bonus points to their names. The surprise high scorer is a defender, however. With 25 bonus points, Everton's Phil Jagielka has the third highest total of any player in the game with only Lampard and West Ham's Carlton Cole above him. In an impressive season for the Everton back four, Jags has taken all three bonus points on six occasions so he clearly has what it takes to impress the judges in the stands. The Toffees season still has much to offer and the former Sheffield United man has not missed a minute yet; expect his haul to get bigger. here is a list of some bonus boys http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/pundit.mc

Reds and Yellows
Nemanja Vidic has rightly won plaudits for a great season which is likely to end with league success and a possible player of the year award, yet his red card against Liverpool was the second of the campaign. The sending-off cost his Fantasy Premier League managers three points from the game total, to go with another two for conceding four goals. It's plainly a bit rich to criticise Fantasy Premier League's top-scoring defender, especially when he has received just three yellow cards, but it proves how damaging a red card can be if it comes to a key man.

So who in the game attracts cards a little too regularly? The undoubted king of the yellow is Everton's Marouane Fellaini who has received 12 throughout a season that began in Gameweek Four. That phenomenal figure works out to nearly one card every other game and has shaved a full 12 points from what is a fairly handy first season total of 72. The only other player in double figures is - surprisingly perhaps - Sunderland winger Kieran Richardson with 10.

90 Minute Men
Some time ago we wrote about the ever present players in Barclays Premier League squads - the guys who are so valued by their managers that they never miss a minute of action. It's handy to know who they are as you can rely on these players to always score two points for playing more than 60 minutes. The list was on the short side back then and it's pretty tiny now. Happily, the highest scorer of those who have played all 2610 minutes of action is one of the cheapest - Fulham's Mark Schwarzer with 134. The Cottager's defence has been key to their success this season and the Aussie keeper plays his full part in that.

Statistically, gaining an average of 40 points for over 1500 people this late in the season is near impossible.

Also, Bermuda isn't in the Caribbean

you may be right about the stats, however if enough folks make the effort it will have an impact.

Bermuda is part of the Caribbean! politically, geographically, economically and certainly part of west indies cricket, I think Gus Logie is their national coach (or at least he once was). plus they are part of the CFU! how did you miss that!

34
Listen Up Warriors

Bermuda currently holds a slim 40 point lead over T&T in the ranking of best countries in the Premier League FFL, and T&T has 75 point lead over Jamaica so we have some work to do. everyone needs to strenghten their team to gain maximum points from the remaining 8 weeks, lets transfer in players who are in form & gaining more points-regardless of how we feel about them! (is T&T we want to win) so dump the expensive subs ,for some cheap ones still earning points, to free up some cash. tweak your teams to max out based on POINTS (I hear yuh saying thats what yuh always doin) you may need to sack some of your fav players but thats OK-it will only hurt for as long as an orgasm.
So lets get past Bermuda and Keep Jamaica from catching up.

Here is the link to follow the country standings

Get to it, lets show our boys we are also the best  ;) Fans in the Caribbean.

Here's breakdown of the Lower football (soccer) leagues in the US of A.
Maybe someone else can post details and links to the T&T league.

Whilst we are all familiar with the 16 team MLS-for the most part,
There's a First Division comprising 11 teams including Miami FC Blues,
Vancouver Whitcaps, Puerto Rico Islanders and thr Rochester Rhinos.

A Second Devision which has 10 teams including Crystal Palace Baltimore,
Bermuda Hodges, Pittsburg Riverhounds and the Real Maryland Monarchs.

There is also a huge "Premier Development League" with ten Divisions in
four conferences: Eastern, Western, Soutern & Central with a total of
67 teams. I suppose the LFCNY area is the Notheast Division comprising
the Brooklyn Knights, Long Island Rough Riders, New Jersey Rangers,
Newark Ironbound Express, Ocean City Barons and the Westchester Flames.

The Brooklyn Knights are in the middle of their 16 game season. their home
ground is Aviator Field, which is located within Floyd Bennett field at
50 Aviation Rd, off Flat Bush Avenue, next home game is on July 6th, 5pm

The USL also features a Women's League, W-League, with 41 teams in
three Conferences; Eastern with the Atlantic & Northeast Divisions, Central
with a Midwest & Northern Division and a Western Conference with 7 teams.

Feeding the club system is a youth league, the Super Y-League, with 101 teams
including the "Super 20". Most Y league teams feature a Boys & a Girls squad.

For specific details about teams, schedules and so on please
go here http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/index_E.html

YES is new! this would be the 1st CONCACAF Champions League (2008-2009 season).

For this inaugural Concacaf Champions League both the USA & Mexico get to field 4 teams. caribbean (CFU) gets three, Belize 1, 2 each to Guatemala, Honduras, Coasta Rica, El Salvador & Panama.

when I find some time I'll do the research and post some more about all the leagues involved.

37

well well well, a CONCACAF Champions League™! yeah I was stunned too  :o .

Its all set and ready to go, almost. But unlike the EUFA Champions League the finals will be a home-and-away affair in late April 2009. The CONCACAF Champions League™ winner will qualify as the CONCACAF representative to the 2009 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup.

here are the preliminary match-ups (Eight seeded teams-see below-are through to the Group Stage). Home team listed first for each leg.

First-Leg (26-28 August 2008)
CD Municipal/Deportivo Jalapa* – San Francisco FC
Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago – New England Revolution
LD Alajuelense – Puerto Rico Islanders
CD SC Cruz Azul – Hankook Verdes
Harbour View FC of Jamaica – Pumas UNAM
Tauro FC – Chivas USA
Canadian Champion** – Nicaraguan Champion**
CD Isidro Metapan – CD Olimpia/CD Marathon*

Second-Leg (2-4 September 2008)
San Francisco FC – CD Municipal/Deportivo Jalapa
New England Revolution – Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago
Puerto Rico Islanders – LD Alajuelense
Hankook Verdes – CD SC Cruz Azul
Pumas UNAM – Harbour View FC of Jamaica
Chivas USA – Tauro FC
Nicaraguan Champion** – Canadian Champion**
CD Olimpia/CD Marathon – CD Isidro Metapan

*playoff game to decide, winner advances to group stage (and is seeded) and loser plays in preliminaries.
**Yet to be determined

Eight seeded teams – Group Stage
Atlante FC
Club Santos Laguna

Houston Dynamo
D.C. United

Deportivo Saprissa
CD Luis Angel Firpo

Municipal/Deportivo Jalapa*
CD Olimpia/CD Marathon*

*Playoff winner advances to group stage, while the loser can still advance through the preliminary round.

I must say this is very intriguing, lets see if the fans and sponsors follow the CONCACAF Champions League like they do the european version.

FYI
it's being shown live at Nevada Smiths (74  3rd ave at 11th Street, Manhattan). There's $10 Cover charge since it's a Setanta PPV broadcast. here's a link to their website http://www.nevadasmiths.net/fixtures.html

The bars listed on the on the Setanta link are Setanta subsribers, but MAY NOT CARRY THE GAME because it's PPV, so call them first.

NICE!
I know this is supposed to be a blog about the Euros, but is it my fault that I'm having fun in the sun in Trinidad? Here we are in Port of Spain, Trinidad's low-rise capital sprawling at the foot of tree-coated mountains at the island's centre.

Low-rise except for the brand-new gleaming Hyatt Regency Hotel. Sumptuous, luxurious sofas perch next to gleaming marble pillars. Here and there lurk attentive staff so expert that they cater for one's every whim almost before you have had chance to whim it. It's the kind of hotel that leaves you feeling vibrant and young, reflecting that you are one of life's chosen few as you saunter from the silent lifts onto its plush embracing carpets.

Football / Calling all youth Coaches and some big squad ones too
« on: April 09, 2008, 06:24:03 PM »
alyuh know I love me some Liverpool football. what a match yesterday, again LFC show their mettle
BUT it was two different liverpool defenses that show up yesterday.
First half bad; second half excellent. which I think is great tool for teaching. Coaches can show this game, picking apart the Liverpool first half defense and lauding the second half.

Finally Rafa listened to me, for weeks I've been shouting at the TV telling him, and the team, to play attacking defense, well it happen during the 2nd half yesterday and they won as a result of it.

Coaches can further chronicle the 3 game series against Arsenal this past week to show how liverpool were lucky in many respects because sitting back and waiting, as they did for the for five halves vs Arsenal, is simple not gonna do it. sure there was some outstanding individual play for certain spells (by all the players) but as a unit, they did not play the kind of defense that will bring a 6th UCL Trophy ;D, until the 2nd period yesterday!

better late than never, so now that Benitez is listening to me, I'm confident we can run the table, knock on wood. So coaches, please let this be useful to your efforts and take one from the page of Mr. Thompson, my PE coach at P-Town Junior Sec, following the English league is the best way to build knowledge and loyalty (granted in those days-early 80s-we did not have our own league to follow).

May I be so bold to make a suggestion? those who feel the de logo is antiquated (myself included) may want to offer a new design. I am graphics challenged, so I will offer a design done by hand, scanned or photoed to this thread. we can then compile and have the membership vote on the various suggestions.
First prize: a pair of kits????? tallman?

« on: January 04, 2006, 03:34:30 AM »
Despite what you may think or feel of Jack Warner, he has been the one constant in T&T football for decades now. The one steward of T&T football to the greatness it has become. He has in fact done more for T&T football than any other single individual, and whilst this is by no means an endorsement of the man, it is in fact an endorsement of the football executive he IS. GIVE JACK HE JACKET!

Until someone else is willing, much less able, to step up and put his money ( and life) where his mouth is, JW is the person to continue stewarding T&T football.

But by all means, please continue to question his motives and agendas. BUT GIVE JACK HE JACKET!
