David Platt told Jason Norville wrong.
By: Shaun Fuentes.

Norville: Platt told me I'd regret it
This country's youngest English-based striker, Jason Norville, revealed recently how Engand manager David Platt told him that he would regret turning down the chance to play for England's Under 21 team.
The 20-year-old Watford man made his debut for T&T in last week's 2-0 defeat to Morocco and in the process wrote off all chances of playing for England, having lived there since the age of six. He recently turned down a call up to the England Under 21 side, opting instead to play for the "Soca Warriors".
"I remember he (Platt) told me that I would regret this decision not to play for the England youth team," Norville said last week. "He wanted me to take up the call but I turned it down and I spoke about my ambitions to play for Trinidad and Tobago and even though he didn't react in a bad manner, he said 'Jason you will regret this decision'.""But I've made my decision and now I am a Trinidad and Tobago player. I have a lot of years ahead of me and intend to make the best of them playing for T&T as well," added Norville.

City midfielder chooses England over Reggae Boyz
Football

Sunday, July 03, 2005

LONDON (CMC) - Birmingham City midfielder Julian Gray says his main focus is to wear England colours despite being eligible to represent Jamaica's Reggae Boyz.

The 25 year-old winger was born in South East London but qualifies to represent Jamaica through his parents who were born in the Caribbean island.

"Someone spoke to me about Jamaica a while back, but I told them I wanted to commit fully to doing well to Birmingham," Gray said.
"My first choice would be to play for England, but I know I am still in Jamaica's thoughts. My family come from Jamaica and would be really proud if I represented them."

Gray signed a three-year contract at Birmingham City last July after spending four seasons at Crystal Palace. A product of Arsenal's youth programme, the six-foot, once-inch player was a fixture in Palace's side and helped the club achieve promotion in the 2003/04 season.

He scored two goals in 32 appearances for the Blues in the just concluded season and from all reports, managed to impress England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson with his ability.

Gray, described as a pacy, skilful player in left midfield, is confident he can reproduce his form at international level regardless of whom he represents.

"Ultimately it's about someone giving you the opportunity to show what you can do," Gray said. "I believe I can reproduce at international level what I do for my club."

I guess this guy is a jamaician version of j'lloyd samuel to .You all have  to realize that this guy lived  all his life in england   and he has an outside shot of playing for english senior team.Would any of you in j'lloyd position not go all out for a call up. The only guy who turned down a  call up to join englsh  youth set up for us was jason norville.

. Who’s been among your most admired coaches and why?
I liked Rene Simoes and the current man in charge, Leo Beenhakker. Then there’s also Anton Corneal. Those coaches allow the players express themselves. They work with a plan and they know how to get players to execute to the best of their ability. I think in coaching, player management is very critical… how you going about in doing that is vital in a coach

Villa vs The Pros W Connection Striker—Andre Toussaint.
By: Joel Villafana.

Villa—Andre what went wrong for W Connection in the Pro Bowl final?

Andre—Jabloteh came to play us overly aggressive and I thought they did not come to play football—they came to be aggressive and that threw us off our game—but overall I found we handled their tactics well. It was just hard for us to settle down and play.

Villa—Andre you are among the top goal scorers in the league so far this season—Are you happy with your form?

Andre—Yes I am very happy—the coaches have worked hard with me and its now bearing fruit—most importantly I have been training hard—it’s all about commitment to the football.

Villa
—What does it mean for you to be part of the W Connection football club?

Andre
—Trinidadian footballers have a lot of talent and clubs like W Connection give us an opportunity to express our talent in a professional manner.

Villa
—W Connection have dominated the league so far, despite losing the Pro Bowl—What do you think is responsible for this domination?

Andre—We started training even before the pre-season started—and we came together as a team and made a commitment to go out and give of our best and I feel its because of our preparation we are out in front in the league.

Villa
—Have you always wanted to play football Andre—Or were you interested in other sports?

Andre
—No, football was always my game—I just love football, and I never really had interest in playing any other sports.

Villa
—If you were not playing football professionally—What do you think you would be doing?

Andre—Well I probably would try to look for a job at the LNG plant in Point Fortin—but I am really glad for the opportunity to play football professionally.

Villa—Have you always wanted to be a striker Andre?

Andre—Yes always—I know my ability in scoring and setting up goals—So yes I always wanted to be a forward.

Villa—What do you think is the strongest aspect of your game?

Andre—My first touch—I can control the ball when it comes to me from any direction and I love to set up plays.

Villa—And what do you think is the weakest aspect of your game—an aspect you need to work on?

Andre—My strength—I need to do a little more gym work and put on some size, so I won’t be bounced off the ball regularly.

Villa—Despite W Connection’s dominance—Who do you believe is connection’s biggest threat?

Andre—Our biggest threat—To tell you the truth, the hardest game I played this season was against Caledonia AIA Fire—I feel Fire is our biggest threat.

Villa—Andre you are a young man, just 23 years of age—where do you see yourself in the next 5 years, in terms of your career?

Andre—I will like to be in Europe playing professionally.

Villa—How do you feel to be part of a local football club with so many foreign players?

Andre—I have no problem with that—sometimes I feel like the foreigner. At Connection we are like a family and everyone needs to continue proving themselves.

Villa—Have you benefited from playing with the Brazilians at Connection?

Andre—Yes definitely—I love their style.

Villa—Tell me a little bit about your recent trail at English Division 1 side Oldham Athletic?

Andre—It was a really good experience—It was the first time I was on a trial in Europe and I enjoyed it—it was very difficult though—it is not easy out there—you have no real friends.

Villa—Which player do you admire the most in the Pro League?

Andre—I really admire Caledonia AIA Fire’s Densill Theobald.

Villa—Which International player do you admire the most?

Andre—Manchester United’s Ruud Van Nistleroy is my player.

Villa—you had a training stint under new head coach Leo Beenhakker—What were your thoughts?

Andre—I found it was very good—I think I did well in the sessions—but to tell you the truth—I was disappointed at not being called up again.

Villa—So you were surprised at being left out of the first cut?

Andre—Yes, I was very surprised, even disappointed—I thought I did well enough to deserve another chance, not just because I am one of the league’s top goal scorers, but I thought I did not get a fair chance to show what I really had to offer.

Villa What do you think are the national team’s chances of qualifying for World Cup 2006 in Germany?

Andre—I feel we can qualify—once we get together, everybody as one—supporters, players and administrators—Yes I feel we can do it.

Villa—What would you say is the best moment in your career so far?

Andre—It was back in school days—The 1998 Intercol Final playing for St. Benedicts against Princess Town—I came on and scored a double.

Villa—What’s the moment you will like to forget?

Andre—It was last year playing against Jabloteh—I had a horrible game, despite we won 2-0.

Football / Ken Butcher: Kerry Noray Deserves A National Call Up.
« on: June 21, 2005, 06:55:39 PM »
Butcher: Kerry Noray deserves a national call up.
By: Joel Villafana.

Former National Midfielder Ken ‘The Smooth’ Butcher has made a strong call for CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh’s striker Kerry Noray to be included in the National team as soon as possible.
Butcher, a former National Technical Director, is of the strong view that Noray deserves a chance just based on his performances for Jabloteh in the T&T Pro League this season.
Butcher told ttproleague.com, “Noray is quick, deceptive and hard working, he torments defenders and has great goal scoring ability.”
“When you look at the current national team, we don’t possess a striker of his nature, currently Stern John and Dwight Yorke are similar in style and someone like Noray will be a wonderful surprise package for Coach Beenhakker to have in his armory.”
Noray, just 24 years old has scored 5 goals this season in 7 appearances—and has impressed this season for San Juan Jabloteh. The diminutive striker is one of the main reasons Jabloteh have bounced back after their stuttering start to the 2005 season.
Noray’s lone item in the Pro Bowl final against W Connection was critical as it helped Jabloteh claim their first national title since winning the league in 2003.
The National team is expected to gather on June 26th for a camp in Miami ahead of the 2005 Gold Cup and National Coach Leo Beenhakker is expected to finalize his squad for the tournament pretty soon.
