JACK ON FIRE
…Green sweep in Chaguanas West by-election
By Ria Taitt Political Editor

It’s a new day in the politics of the country.

Jack Warner’s green machine trounced Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s UNC in its heartland of Chaguanas West yesterday, shattering all tribal expectations with an impressive victory.

Warner garnered 69 per cent of the votes cast, Ameen 28 per cent and PNM two per cent. The people of Chaguanas West chose Warner’s Independent Liberal Party (ILP) over an incumbent Government, an action which could undermine the confidence of the People’s Partnership administration.

This is the first time in the country’s history that a truly heartland UNC constituency has deserted the party, signalling a major achievement. It also speaks to a  significant shift with unpredictable implications, coming about under the leadership of Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Present at Warner’s victory rally last night was MP  Winston “Gypsy” Peters, suggesting that the People’s Partnership could lose its constitution-amending majority (of 27 seats). Peters had stated during the campaign that he remained a UNC MP.

Warner, in his victory address, made it clear that he was looking beyond Chaguanas West to larger things. “I pledge to work not only for the good of the people of Chaguanas West, but also for the good of the entire country,” he said.

Flanked by some of the personalities who appeared on his platform on a nightly basis, “Uncle Jack” greeted all his “nephews and nieces”.

Warner said he always knew that Chaguanas West, whose “love, loyalty and commitment” he never doubted, would set the tone for the shift in the country’s politics.

“Like David we came up against the might of Goliath and won,” he said. Warner said his team went up against the might of the Government, the Cabinet  and the “highest level of vindictiveness practised” on the people of Chaguanas West and won.

“One lesson to be learnt is that a Government must listen and respond. Government must be from the ground up, not the top down,” he said.

His decision to seek a fresh mandate in the face of persistent allegations has paid off handsomely. He assured the crowd last night that the ILP was here to stay, suggesting that there would be no return to the UNC and that any rapprochement with the People’s Partnership would have to be done through the ILP.

The Parliament which opens on Friday will have a new political party. And Warner will be a main figure in the Parliament once more, some three months after his resignation, because of yesterday’s  electoral accomplishment.

If Warner was the winner, the Prime Minister was the loser. Thirty-six months into her leadership, this was the second campaign in which the Prime Minister led the charge that has ended in defeat. Coming months after the Tobago House of Assembly, this loss is perhaps more devastating because it was in a traditionally safe UNC constituency.

But the Prime Minister looked relaxed and showed no sight of strain last night as she addressed supporters.  “You win some, you lose some. I do not believe we have lost because we remain in the Government”, she said. She urged her “UNC soldiers”  not to be discouraged. We still have 26 seats, maybe 27, in the Parliament,” she said.  “This (result) gives us a moment of introspection and reflection...This too shall pass”, she added. She said this was one of many battles and the war was still to be won. She noted that the party still had to face the local government elections, constitutionally due by October. The Prime Minister said therefore that this experience should be used as a “golden opportunity to learn and not repeat any mistakes from the past”.

An equally calm and composed Khadijah Ameen, who was promoted during the campaign as “this girl’s on fire!”, said the people of Chaguanas West needed the UNC and the UNC would continue to be there for them. She said she knew some of her soldiers might be sad but the People’s Partnership Government was their government and the UNC was their party. She praised the Prime Minister for being with her team “day in, day out. No other Prime Minister has been so close to the people,” she said.

The Prime Minister congratulated Warner and wished him good luck in his endeavours as the Chaguanas West MP. She said there was no hate, spite, malice or ill-will to any one in Trinidad and Tobago. “We are all one family,” she declared.

PNM leader Keith Rowley said the country was in a sad place given the result in Chaguanas West.

“The Government has lost its mandate. The Prime Minister should call the general election now. We implore the Prime Minister to put Trinidad and Tobago first and call the general election now!” he said.

My grandfather Jack will never make jail.

1. He knows everyone secrets, from the FBI, FIFA to Kamla. All they can do is talk and fool the public but its all a big bluff. The T&T PM will dear step in Jack face, she knows what could happen. She should worry about her deputy Anand Ramolgan buying all the land on the new highways Jack built so when they lose election he will have a Plan B in place with his new business buildings and service stations. But the focus is on Jack an others are worst.

2. Jack Warner will be T&T PM one day and even if he is found guilty, he will not make jail time, he may get slapped with a fine. People in T&T loves this man and he will win. Who could win Jack for PM, not Kamla and certainly not Rowley.

3. He is the smartest man in T&T, he has fooled the FBI, IRS, T&T Government and FIFA for years. Imagine FIFA paid rent for their own building for 25 years and they didn't know that.

4. After elections today, you guys will finally accept that Jack is the king of T&T. Our people love free stuff and Jack is feeding them with the palm of his hands.

5. He got the TTFA to pay the 2006 Warriors with hidden Concacaf money Tim Kee and Sheldon Phillips all of a sudden discovered like pirates.

6. Yes, he cannot leave T&T, but Jack doesn't have too. He has seen the world.

7. Moderators, I advise you to merge this after elections today. I want the world to see how powerful Jack really is. Please make this a sticky Flex.

The Hummer is painted in Green and his being used as Jack mobile for campaign purpose.

Nice new bunch under Terry ready for Stephen Harts 2018 campaign =
Dwight Pope
Darryl Trim
Rundell Winchester
Dwight Quintero
Julio Noel
Nicholas Dillon
Omar Charles
Dario Holmes
Darren Mitchell

You mean you should thank Stokely Vale, Tobago and Phoenix for this, not Central FC.

The clubs you guys took advantage off and signed all their best stars for nothing. Typical Englishmen mentality, raping the small teams for pennies. For a promise to play in the big league.

I may say things harsh but its the truth, exploitation at its best. Central is the local Chelsea, just a broke one who rubbing poor clubs their best players.

Now Harrison saying they are Terry Fenwick product, please get a life.

Glad to see Joe Public is still be recognize.

Warriors hold El Salvador 2-2 in Gold Cup opener
wired868.

The Trinidad and Tobago national football started its 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign with a 2-2 draw against El Salvador tonight in the opening Group B match-up at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

Kenwyne Jones and Keon Daniel scored in each half for the “Soca Warriors” in a thrilling encounter although, at the final whistle, new head coach Stephen Hart may have been grateful to goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams for a stunning save in the dying seconds to deny El Salvador substitute Mark Blanco.

The Warriors will now travel to Miami where they will face Haiti in their second Group B assignment at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. A win against Haiti should assure Trinidad and Tobago of a berth in the knockout round with a game to spare since four points is likely be enough for at least one of two available spots for the best third placed teams.

There are 12 participating teams in the 2013 Gold Cup finals and only four will be eliminated in the first round. The Warriors would always have fancied their chances of progression, especially as they avoided heavyweights like United States, Costa Rica and Mexico in the group draw. But Hart’s men gave more tangible reason for optimism tonight.

Hart spoke of the need to make a quick impression on Trinidad and Tobago’s Central American opponent and the Warriors did not let him down.

In the tenth minute, Carlos Edwards cut inside from the left on a mazy dribble through the El Salvadorian midfield and tried to thread the ball through to Jones on his left. The opposing defence kept the ball away from the intended recipient but it deflected into Daniel’s path and the Philadelphia Union midfielder reacted quickly to steer home at the near post.

So far, so good. But a cheap free kick conceded by Kevon Carter offered El Salvador a half-chance in the 21st minute and Rodolfo Zalaya responded with a curling effort that didn’t quite find the corner but zipped past Williams and into the back of the net.

Williams was beaten again in the 42st minute as Rafael Burgos drove goalwards from an outrageous angle but saw his effort rap the heel of the far post before rebounding harmlessly away.

The second half saw both nations threaten as Burgos and Edwards went close before El Salvador struck again through Zalaya who forced a header past Williams from close range off a right side cross.

Zalaya, who turned 25 last week, is becoming a regular source of goals for El Salvador. That was his 15th international goal from 35 appearances.

In contrast, Jones had just seven goals from 50 full international games before tonight. But the Stoke City man gave a reminder as to why he has been on the books of three England Premier League clubs with a fine individual effort to pull the Warriors back level.

There were two defenders in attendance when his namesake, Joevin Jones, played a long ball into his path. But Jones (K) chested the ball down and spun around El Salvador captain Victor Turcios in one fluid movement and held off Steven Purdy before lashing left footed past goalkeeper Dagoberto Portillo and into the far corner.

Turcios, incidentally, plays for RoPS in the Finland Premier League alongside Trinidad and Tobago playmaker Ataullah Guerra who is absent because the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) waited too long to apply for his visa. Another talented young defender, Sheldon Bateau, is absent as a request was not sent to his Belgium employer, KV Mechelen, in time.

Perhaps such cock-ups are the difference between three points and one at this level.

The Warriors, who fluctuated between steady and sloppy in midfield, did seek out a winner as Daniel and Edwards failed to beat Portillo with two half-chances.

But, in the end, the Trinidad and Tobago team was thankful for the solitary point as Osael Romero stepped inside Power but struck his effort off the heel of Williams’ post again. And Williams, who captained the Warriors through the qualifying rounds, saved the day with a brilliant one-handed save after a cushioned Romero header was met by a stunning overhead kick by substitute Mark Blanco from close quarters.

In 10 meetings with El Salvador over the last three decades, Trinidad and Tobago won four and drew three but two of their three losses came in this competition. Both teams might have been satisfied with a draw at the final whistle.

It has been 13 years since Trinidad and Tobago won a match at the Gold Cup and then, under coach Bertille St Clair, the boys in red, white and black went on to storm their way into the semifinals.

Hart can dream of doing at least as well if he can help his troops outwit Haiti on Friday. Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti played to a goalless draw at the Caribbean Cup tournament last December and the Warriors have significantly enhanced their team since then with the inclusion of Khaleem Hyland, Justin Hoyte, Darryl Roberts, Edwards, Daniel and Jones (K).

Hart and new director of football, Leo Beenhakker, were supposedly brought in to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s technical staff. A result against Haiti would arguably be a step in the right direction for the new coaching duo.

Was that necessary ?

How stupid can Lasana really be?

In the past 13 years T&T has missed out on the 2003, 2009 and 2011 Gold Cup.

Not to mention its hosted every 2 years.

So 13 years divided x 2 = 6.5

Minus 3 additional years 2003, 2009 and 2011 that will leave you with 3.5 years.

Nothing never positive and without Jack Warner he have nothing really much to write about or no one really cares to read it garbage.

David Muhammad is now the team's manager and he carries a grudge against Jlloyd Samuel so his days as a national player is over.

Glad to see many Joe Public players here, Carlyle Mitchell, Kenwyne Jones, Seon Power, Marvin Phillip, Daneil Cyrus, Aubrey David, Kareem Moses and Densill Theobald.

It shows how well JPFC did in their time in T&T Pro League that after soon a long lay off their players are still here.

Not if beenhakker and stephen hart has anything to do with it.

BTW, do you even know what the title "director of football mean" how de hell could he override ah football director or a head coaches orders??  weh yuh smokin horner??

nice try arsehole. :loser:

In Trinidad director of football means nothing. Beenhakker is here for two months, at least thats what I red on the site.

And why are you cussing me, did I sleep with your mother?

Glad you are such a great writer that you can correct me, please feel free to correct this "bitchman".

Whats funny is, no one here is brave enough to say that Central is wrong to a point, they are afraid of Harrison.

I have a valid point, Mr Vb choose to ignore instead he tries to distract with his garbage.

I hope if there are any Tobago poster here that they can relay my message to these Clubs.

Ah like how they just sneek in the Tobago part of the visit kinda by the way. Who they playing in Tobago ??? Any Tobago Team or players going to benefit from this visit ???????????

Sneak? How so? Central F.C. will play Walsall on the 9th July at Ato Boldon Stadium, but prior to that Walsall will spend 4 nights in Tobago where they will play two games including a match vs a Pro League XI

The only reason there are not more details concerning Tobago is because Tobago hasn't provided them yet! And, if you're keeping check, there are 5 young Tobago players in the Central F.C. team: Darryl Trim, Omar Charles, Darren Mitchell, Rundell Winchester and Dario Holmes. 4 of them made their Pro League debuts with Central F.C. and Mitchell went from Super League to National team in 3 months with The Sharks.

If anyone in Trinidad football is promoting Tobago, it's Central F.C., which is why we want to take Walsall there! It would be a lot easier for us to keep them in Trinidad: 1 hotel, 1 set of transport, 1 training ground etc. But we are promoting T&T so we have to make every effort.  We also would like to have Stokely Vale and Phoenix get some exposure as they were really supportive when we wanted to sign their guys.

Promoting them or raping them, which one ?

Central FC is taking advantage of the Tobago players and getting them for free and while this may benefit the players as they will be playing Pro Football, these poor Tobago Clubs get nothing in return.

Winchester (Rundell) will sign a foreign contact and what does his Tobago Team get if any transfer fee was awarded to Central ?

Central has find a way to dig up Tobago talent for nothing.

These Englishmen are pirates.

Someone should advice these Tobago clubs to let the players leave free to Central but put a claw in their contract that if they are sold to a foreign club that they should get a percentage.

Kevin Harrison and Brent Sancho do not have a heart.

Sorry for these Tobago players who feel they are the ones benefitting from this when its really Central FC. I can only hope they pay these guys a decent salary.

Cannot believe in this day players are still free to leave with nothing.

I do not mind they leave to play for Central for free, but they need to be educated about transfer fees if a player should move out of T&T. Joe Public never operated in this manner, taking advantage.

The English accent have them Tobagonians mesmerized.

And none Central developed, Mollon was already a star when you signed her, dont make it sound like your club is responsible for any of them, this is only their 5 game with your club.

Trini players are known for trials without success.

Dont fool yourself.

I remember you said once that Central was signing with some big club to partner them too.

137
I doubt Beenhakker will join T&T as they do not have the money to retain him.

Hutson Charles and Jefferson George are good assistance. But needs higher education about the game. Being nice guys do not win games.

Fenwick and Stuart Charles will do very well for T&T on the youth level.

Kevin need to go back to England and revitalize Gillingham and stop taking advantage of our third world country and the people who would do anything for a blackberry.

144
Leo Beenhakker made history when he took T&T to their first ever world cup and he ain't asked for an extra cent.

Yet we have hungry players who only wants money.

They put money first and then country.

Lets see if they will form a players union now, something they have been planning 10 years now. They can't do NOTHING right !!!!! they can't even come together and do nothing, they only for themselves, the same way they describe Jack, is the same way they are.

Shaka Hislop mouth disappear now, Sancho could buy a next Japs franchise, Kelvin could finally get a new apartment, Stern John could pay off the kid that wants to buss his ass in T&T, Wolfe could campaign for PNM full time now, Atiba and Whitley could stop working PH, the list goes one.

They want millions for an own goal in the world cup. In Colombia Sancho would have been shot.

Hungry black people, like crabs in barrels.

Jack spend millions on Marvin Lee, nobody else you heard a peep from.

Thank God its Concacaf money they got, because Jack not giving them a red cent.

By the way, Tim Kee have a lot of secrets and now he have a scapegoat, Sheldon Phillips, the man have a lot of education and no common sense.

The new dictators, Corneal, Shabazz and Tim Kee. Wait, becareful what you guys wish for.

Notice, they still sticking to the old TTFF Constitution despite changing their name to TTFA.

At least Jack gave back a little.

You can't even get Tim Kee to do a proper and honest interview for you guys here.

When you guys realise that football is now a business then you will understand where Jack was coming from.

Nobody cares about country anymore.

Lincoln Phillips had a smooth ride when he was TD for the TTFF. He worked 6 months out of the seven years he was there. All the education and experience he had and did not make an impact, he blame he was not given the tools to do his job but yet he stayed here for 7 years and collected his retirement check.

Now his son Sheldon is here, a man who wasn't born in T&T, have the education and experience to get a decent job in America in addition to his PDL and USL affiliate and choose to work with the insubordinate TTFF.

Another free loader, the mango really do not fall far from the tree. Expect to see a solid 6 months from him and then he will turn into a ghost.
