Trini _2026, I relate to your saying "5 of Caribbean heritage". Please, however, help me to understand the significance of your statement that "8  players were black".  ??? ???

Anbrat, I don't understand. Of the 8 Black players on the team, 5 were of Caribbean descent.
Deeks, I saw and supported a Canadian team of eleven (11) on field players, the substitute bench, coach and other technical staff, all gelling harmoniously to provide a winning performance. The racial composition of the team never entered my mind hence my reaching out in an attempt to understand the significance/relevance of the comment that "8  players were black".

Canada has a history of excluding the "Black"players from the MNT program. The past controllers of Canadian Soccer has always tried to manage the number of black players coming into the team. This is the first wcq campaign where the 7 sometimes 8 of the starters are of Caribbean/African extraction.
With that being said, the non black players on the team are the creme of the crop and just as SOLID. . Johnston, Eustaqio and Borjan and Vitorio.. Boss players.
"Canada has a history of excluding the "Black"players from the MNT program. The past controllers of Canadian Soccer has always tried to manage the number of black players coming into the team".

Thank you for this enlightening information, gawd on pitch. I was not aware of this alleged discriminatory practice by Canada. Did/does Canada apply this practice to its other sports teams viz hockey, cricket, etc?

Canada's renaissance is a good thing for CONCACAF. Next time let's see what can be accomplished without Arctic conditions. 👿
I think more than just a revival, this is something completely new. They have never achieved such a level of of play (0 losses) and possibility of qualification. Hope they can maintain. This is not just the one child of West Indian parentage (Randy Samuel) in the whole team, but a greater proportion of 1st generation immigrant kids, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad, Portugal..etc.
Herdman is a brave and fair man to go that route, selecting the best players and not political/financial appeasements, now would the powers that be allow him stay that course, left to be seen. As we well know, Administrative committees can put a lot of pressure on managers, especially in our region.

Yes Deeks Canada is going places. Last night staring 11  8  players were black  5 of Caribbean heritage..  and a lot more coming through the system...

Wow. That was not justified imo! Even though Levi shoved him near the end of the brawl, that guy was riding Levi's back like a horse. didn't coming close to challenging for the ball. If anything he should've gotten the red and Levi a yellow. I would love to hear the referees assessment on this in the report.
Evidently it is not what was done to him but all about how he reacted.

Canada can probably take the 3rd spot for the WCQ they are predictable but organized with some good individual talent but just like the English team they are boring to watch.
Interesting perspective. Which teams do you consider as not boring to watch?

A word of caution to the NC:

Do NOT commit to engaging the Interim Head Coach on a full-time basis based exclusively on performance/qualification/ tournament progress/ other similar configuration.
On what basis should the Interim Head Coach be engaged?

Yup I asked that also .. I doubt he can even make the starting 11 in the under 20
I have never had the opportunity of seeing the young man play. What teams have you seen him in action with? Was he a secondary school standout?

On the face of it, he has matured beyond the expectation of players who were secondary school standouts. Prior to these events the only Gary Griffith who was a household name is the one to whom he is related.

I hope i am wrong i think he is just one of those pics

"we were never this formidable old time giant as we would like to think, it’s just that those other islands were running on fumes having minuscule talent pools and very little resources to put into their sports programs".

Agreed, however, in that context, we were indeed 'mighty'.

52
Oh how the mighty have fallen we need home advantage for st kitts ... man terry should have gone to hadad long time and tell him to concede the home games and just focus on playing our games away ... Terry should know by now CMO not going to permitt any local games...

It is not that the mighty have fallen. There is something mightier than the mighty. It is called covid. What's more important ? Football or Your life?
The mighty has indeed fallen and that is a reality. In our 'glory' years of yesteryear, home advantage would never have been an issue vs St. Kitts.

This is international football so there is no excuse for the lack of basic tactical understanding the team displayed.

Once the commissioner of police is actively involved in football, only for self interest to buy a place for his son on the team who wasn’t even a school boy standout then we are ALL to blame!!!!

Fenwick is going to feed the masses with tons of excuses about lack of preparation, COVID, the ban but I don’t see with even our full team, with him in charge how are we going to qualify for a World Cup playing against the A teams of, Mexico, USA, Canada, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Honduras to name a few. I guess only time will tell!!

Wasn’t this team in training at the police barracks months before? If so, what was our game plan in attacking, defending and in transition? Fenwick just left players to do as they please! It looks like he surely missed his sidekick Gary on the sidelines to tell him what to do. Hilarious!!
Cruyff, your 'guns' seemed to be trained on Griffith and his son. Didn't Griffith Jnr. and another youthman go somewhere in the UK on trial recently? Surely he must be worth something. Yes?  ???

Yes, but the "what" is what is in question. Perception gap. Overblown situation in terms of perception.
I interpret your comments to mean that you are in agreement with Cruyff. I guess that you both are in a better position to judge having surely seen the young GG play. I have not, so until I do, I have to take your word that his is an "overblown situation in terms of perception". Thank you.

Fifa, “Guilty As Charged.” This MUST be the turning point for Fifa and CAS.
arsenalfcnews.co.uk

As reported by Josimar, the judge said Fifa had made “a mockery of the proceedings” and that the installation of a “normalisation” group to take over football in Trinidad and Tobago was unreasonable.

The argument was that Fifa had allowed what one might call erratic financial mismanagement to continue under its watch, and Fifa audits did nothing to sort out the issue.  Thus the claim that Fifa helped TTFA gets its accounts in order and hold new elections was less than credible.

In short the judge concluded, that the “normalisation order” was “a contrivance to subvert the outcome of the [TTFA] November 24th elections… Fifa’s claim that it remains neutral in matters of politics (within the sport) is demonstrated to be patently false”.

The Trinidad and Tobago FA admitted that it had not proceeded properly but was putting its house in order.  Fifa, they argued, was punishing the association because as part of its take over of the association Fifa had put in power David John-Williams, whom Josimar calls “a key ally of Gianni Infantino in the region”.

But the judge was not finished for as Josimar continues, “Throughout the proceedings Fifa has… demonstrated a disregard for the rule of law”.

Now Fifa find itself in a bind.  Fifa regards the courts of its individual members to be below itself – it is the Supreme Ruler of All Matters Football.  As such it would not dirty its hands by defending itself in a trial in Trinidad and Tobago, because Fifa, as the supreme entity, is not subject to the laws of Trinidad and Tobago.

Certainly the FA of Trinidad and Tobago have shown far more strength of character than the English FA which has endlessly bowed down in craven tribute to Fifa – even when it became aware that the last world cup for which the FA bid (using as we alone have noted many time, taxpayers money), was fixed.

(There is also the issue of the next world cup being held in stadia built by slave labour, and our hope that “Black Lives Matter” might take up that issue, but that movement seems curiously silent on the subject, so we’ll leave that for a moment).

Supported by newspaper journalists whose prime interest is getting tickets so they can go and watch football matches for free and stay in splendid hotels at sponsors’ expense, no criticism of Fifa will ever reach the eyes and ears of those interested in the sport in England.

But now they might have to, because as Josimar is pointing out, “TTFA v. FIFA” is being seen as a test case.  And it is happening just as Fifa itself is on trial in Switzerland.

The question has always been, is it reasonable for a self-appointed sports body to be above the laws of the land of the country in which it holds court?

For if Fifa is the first and last arbiter of all decisions, all the associations within Fifa bow down to its rules.  This is what we see in England, and because the FA is funded by the state, we, the taxpayers, end up keeping this autocratic dictatorship in power and can’t stop the FA handing over vast amounts of our money to Fifa.

Now as Josimar points out, it has been shown in a high court that even Fifa’s dictatorship has a limit to its powers – it cannot override primary legislation in the country of one of its members.  Thus finally it is established that (in the case of England) the FA is subject to the laws of England primarily, not to the laws of Fifa.  That should always have been obvious (given that the FA is funded by grants from government, which itself is funded by the taxpayer).  Now it has been set out.

The FA has been shown to be subject to British law – as when the Charity Commissioners slaughtered it over the FA’s abject failure to keep proper records of the money it claimed it was giving away as a result of the “Charity Shield”.  It’s response was simply to avoid the issue by renaming the competition to “Community Shield”.  Repeated requests from Untold Arsenal to the FA asking for detail of where the money from that competition went to, remained unanswered.

Fifa was shown to be subject to Swiss law in 2015 (you might recall our article from 22 January of that year to which I have alluded in the past: Switzerland take a greater interest in Fifa – at last)

As we reported there was at that point a “change to the law in Switzerland, which allows the authorities to scrutinise bank accounts held by sporting governing bodies and their leaders.”  What I got wrong was that I predicted that Fifa would follow the IOC which had immediately moved its 2017 vote on Olympic venues to Peru.  Fifa thought it was above everything, carried on in Switzerland, and the arrests followed.

But what now?  Fifa clearly can claim that all disputes go through Fifa.  But it’s leader is being charged with corruption in a Swiss court.  And as Trinidad and Tobago has shown, if the FA of a country is instituted within the law of that country, then that football association is subject to the law of country, NOT the law of Fifa.  Meanwhile the cases in Switzerland are showing that Fifa officials are subject to the law of Switzerland, not the law of Fifa.

But now here’s a wonderful thought which Josimar has come up with.  If this is the case then the Court of Arbitration for Sport is “not the only legitimate recourse for a member of Fifa which was involved in a dispute with the governing body.”  Nor indeed for members of Uefa.  Something which might interest Manchester City.

Because again as Josimar says, “To say otherwise would be to accept that Fifa could overrule an Act of Parliament; and to accept that would be to surrender national sovereignty.”  Because that course of action means that Fifa is a law unto itself, and the Swiss courts are currently very busy showing that this is not the case, and will not be allowed to be the case.

Maybe, just maybe, this is the turning point.

Chaos in Europe, silence in England

Cudjoe slams 'selfish' United TTFA for FIFA suspension
By Joel Bailey (T&T Newsday)

SHAMFA Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Community Development, has described FIFA’s suspension of the TTFA (T&T Football Association) as “a sad day for football and sport” in T&T.

On Thursday, the Bureau of the FIFA Council suspended the TTFA with immediate effect due to grave violations of the FIFA Statutes.

In a statement on its website, FIFA said, “the suspension was prompted by the former leadership of the TTFA lodging a claim before (the T&T High Court) in order to contest the decision of the FIFA Council to appoint a normalisation committee for the TTFA.”

In March, TTFA president William Wallace and his executive were removed by FIFA, due to the TTFA’s mounting debt, and a normalisation committee, headed by businessman Robert Hadad, was put in place to run the affairs of T&T football.

On Thursday evening, Cudjoe said, “I am not surprised because FIFA would have already stated its position quite early. I was trying to avoid this situation. I remembered calling a meeting in August with all the football (bodies). I think FIFA has been fair and reasonable in its dealings by giving them a deadline (of September 16) and then going the extra mile of giving them an extension (of September 23).”

Turning her focus towards the United TTFA team of Wallace, his deputies Clynt Taylor, Susan Joseph-Warrick, Joseph Sam Phillip, as well as TTFA members Keith Look Loy and Anthony Harford, Cudjoe said, “If they were serious about relieving T&T from this kind of stress, they would have acted on time and in a proper manner.

“FIFA had no choice but to do what they have done,” she continued. “It’s a sad day for football and a sad day for sport development in this nation. The handful of people that’s causing us this trouble, they would not suffer as much as athletes and the young people who depend on football and sports for their advancement.

“I’m also disappointed that adults who have been charged with this management of football would have the country in this position, would hold football to ransom, would hijack the development of football in this way. They did not go to their clubs (or TTFA membership) before taking on this court matter. They went on their own selfish and unreasonable journey and today we’re in this position because of them.”

Recently, Wallace hinted that, even with FIFA sanctions, domestic and schools football will still be continued in T&T, once covid19 restrictions are lifted.

But Cudjoe countered, “What does that really mean for the young person who’s looking to advance in football, who have dreams about playing in the World Cup, who was looking forward to the CONCACAF Nations League? What community football and schools football means to those young athletes who are really being affected by this?”

The Minister said, “It goes beyond that because we were benefitting from FIFA Forward Development Programme and the various courses to help various disciplines like beach football (and) women’s football. That technical assistance is gone when you’re (suspended).

“While community football and schools football is good, that’s only a drop in the bucket when you think about the full potential of the beautiful game, of our ability to participate at regional and international levels. That brings no comfort, especially knowing that this could have been avoided and that these (individuals) had so much time to turn things around. But they did what they did for their own ego, for their own time of fame. It does not make any sense. The majority of their clubs know that it didn’t make any sense.”

Cudjoe urged other local sporting bodies to “learn from this, that when you elect people to leadership of your organisations, elect proper, right-thinking people with a conscience, with a heart to truly develop the game.”

The Minister is hopeful that there will be light at the end of the tunnel for T&T football.

“I think the tone of the (FIFA) letter allows some wiggle-room, that if (the TTFA) make the necessary changes, at it relates to properly recognising the normalisation committee, and even amending the local constitution to reflect that CAS is the final court of arbitration,” she said. “I think that would allow FIFA to reconsider lifting the suspension. I’m hoping that these clubs have their voices heard and hold their so-called leaders to account.”

No, Minister.

There is something entirely dissonant with the tenor of your comments and discordant with the discretion and mandate with which your portfolio vests you.

Good on Joel Bailey for getting your comments on the record, but the comments place you as performing well within your competence, when this matter - particularly in its denouement - would have demanded more than the commentating perspective of a front row seat.

Perhaps the deficiency is that Mr. Bailey didn't exhaust his questions or ask all of the pertinent questions. But, even if he didn't ask, it seems that the moment should have compelled you to make a more comprehensive statement regarding the government's activism on this matter.

While there may be an element of incomplete journalism here - perhaps reflective of the expected scrutiny of the readership - there's also been a building narrative (no pun intended) of whether you have used your time sufficiently wisely despite your awareness of the advertised conclusion.

Your words: 'I am not surprised because FIFA would have already stated its position quite early'.

There are still questions to be answered before we should get to you reducing an element of your public comments to a personalised bashing of executive action.

Not wishing to be guilty of the same, my comments include curiosity as to Cabinet's view of the matter and extend to what, if anything, exercised the Prime Minister regarding all of the consequences which you liberally note.

It's evident that United TTFA trampled your last nerve,  but did you run the fullness of the last mile?
I am not sure that I am getting what your point really is  ???  and I would rather not simply assume. Is it that you regard the Minister's comments as inappropriate and that government should have a role in this ongoing imbroglio? Notwithstanding, in my humble view the minister was straightforward in calling a spade a spade.

60
New deadline to drop the case on the 23rd.

More bluff? More bark than bite?

Not enough time for TTFA members to call an EGM
So what is the play here? Bureau council secrecy?
Have you been satisfied with the administration (financial & otherwise) of football in TT over the past 40 years?
