Football / Re: United are on de Rise...
« on: December 17, 2005, 01:53:21 PM »
As I said before, although I am not a United fan (I've been supporting Liverpool since the days of Barnes, Beardsley and Rush), I strongly dislike Jose Mourinho and would love to see another team win the Premiership just to humble him a little. So I am rooting for Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd. or any other side that can beat Chelsea.

Allyuh, doh worry...we in ah new era of World Football.  De ol' way ah thinking doh work anymore.  Giants will fall in Germany next year.  The ol' Goliaths will tumble at de hands of de small Davids.
No longer is a victory guaranteed.  Giants will fall.

Fidel2xl, I agree with you. Who would have thought that South Korea (which had one of the worst World Cup records ever) would have beaten Italy in World Cup 2002 and make it as far as the semis. Anything can happen.

Football / Re: England pad their stats versus Trinidad and Tobago 4-0
« on: December 11, 2005, 02:54:24 PM »
On paper, England should beat us in their sleep. However, anything can happen in 90 minutes and we do have a coach who has been around the European game for a long time and who has an amazing work ethic when it comes to scouting opponents (remember how he sent scouts to the Uzbekistan-Bahrain game before our game against Mexico).

I know that it will be a herculean task, but I think with the right amount of work, determination and playing as a unit for the full ninety minutes, I think that we could get a good result against England

what do you consider to be a good result against England ?........just curious

If we lose to Sweden in the first game, then we will have to beat England and Paraguay to give ourselves a chance of advancing to the 2nd round. If we draw with Sweden, then we can probably advance to the 2nd round with a draw and a wind against Panama. The best case scenario however is two wins and a draw. If we play our Warm-ups against teams that play similar styles to the other teams in the groups and draw on the experience of players like Yorke (he played in champions league with Man Utd. in '99) and has been around the English game since '90, we will  have a reasonable chance

Just to clear up some inclusion from the last post. In this post I said "If we draw with Sweden, then we can probably advance to the 2nd round with a draw and wind against Panama" I was referring to Paraguay and not Panama and I really meant "win" instead of "wind". I'm not sure where that came from. I must have been extremely tired or something. Anyway, sorry about that.

General Discussion / Re: Dem Argentinians giving blacks pressure
« on: December 07, 2005, 10:01:07 PM »
It is really unfortunate that many Argentines feel this way. However, it is hardly surprising given the images of Africans which are transmited through the world media. They are almost always negative. In fact many people may not realize that they may have a little bit of African blood in them regardless of their ethnic background. The same goes for people of African descent. Many have genetic characteristics from other races. So this whole "black" and "white" thing is really a political and social invention and is not reality.

Arena is entitled to his opinion. Nothing we can say can change his mind. Our boys have to perform so that we can change his mind. Also, bear in mind that the US team was not always strong. I remember the days when they used to get licks like it was going out of style. However, with the right amount of money and planning and after a lot more licks, they got better. So Arena better be careful about what he's saying because whatever happens, this World Cup can only open doors for us and we may not be as 'easy' to beat as Arena claims.

That was definitely an Avery special. I remember when Avery rocked a bullet like that against Naps in '93 (when Pres was a bomb squad and Naps was tata).

Unfortunately, I can't make a comparison since I wasn't born in '73 and can't get to see the games here in upstate New York (Somewhere behind God's back). However, a thought just occurred to me. I wonder what would have been the result if we had appealed to FIFA like Bahrain did following our loss to Haiti in '73. I wonder what the result would have been? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the video link of the Chelsea-Man Itd. match Pionner. I'm not a Man Utd. supporter, but I absolutely can't stand Mourinho. He's arrogant and is always provoking other premiership managers with his comments. I hope Chelsea lose many more games just to shut Mourinho up!

Thanks for the info. The example with Henry and Best (thanks Bill, great research!) should also put to rest all doubts. The only way FIFA can rule in Bahrain's favor would be to totally disregard their own law and I am sure this would not happen. In fact, I'm sure the law book was the first document they consulted upon review of the disputed goal.

This goal controversy has been bothering me all afternoon. I want to put my mind at ease and be able to thoroughly bask in the glory of T&T's momentous triumph. What is the actual URL for the FIFA website? And also is there any way I can see an actual video clip of this controversial disallowed goal?
