World Twenty20 2010 to be launched in Barbados
03/10/09

JOHANNESBURG -- The International Cricket Council’s World Twenty20 2010 Tournament, due to be played in the Caribbean next year, will be launched in Barbados later this month. The ICC announced on Friday that the event will have an official launch by the ICC’s Chief Executive, Mr Haroon Lorgat, on October 31 with tickets going on sale the day after. The news came following the ICC’s ICC’s Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The men’s World Twenty20 2010, will be the third edition of the tournament and will be played in Barbados, Guyana and St Lucia next April and May. The second ICC Women’s World T20 will be played in St Kitts in May 2010.

The ICC’s CEC has four meetings per year to discuss a range of issues relating to the playing and the business of cricket, some of which will be considered by the ICC Board when it next meets, also in Johannesburg in four days’ time (October 6 and 7).

The ICC’s CEC also noted that with the current Future Tours Programme (FTP) due to conclude in May 2012, CEC continued to engage in developing a further draft of the FTP post-2012. This followed feedback received by ICC management from Members. This process is ongoing and includes a working draft to be presented to the next Board meeting.

CEC also enhanced the scope of the Test working group which was looking at ways to enhance and promote Test cricket as the pinnacle of the game. This group will now include all the Full Member chief executives and will also look at developing context for all three formats of the game at international level.

A discussion took place on the promotion of cricket. It was agreed to extend the scope of the project from promotion to include product research and analysis concerning Test, One-Day Internationals and T20 International cricket. A competitive analysis of other sports and entertainment products will be carried out and there will be further research carried out into various proposals for product development and variation of Test cricket, such as day/night Test matches.

While I would have liked to have seen some of the games here, the world doesn't revolve around us. There are other international standard grounds in the region and they are being used. It's that simple.

Nah Wolfman ah cant agree with yuh dey....If yuh say St.Lucia in terms of giving d smaller islands an opportunity, then OK.  But why always Barbados and Guyana....

Dat aint sounding right.....something wrong....Cricket may not revolve around US alone but I knew when we stage ah cricket match..it does more than SELL OUT....We Trini does come out to support cricket..and more....

You have to BID to get matches. Check the date.
Allyuh too quick to see some conspiracy. I suppose is Manning fault we didn't bid?

Five islands put in Twenty20 bids

November 29, 2008

Five Caribbean countries have made bids to host matches during the 2010 World Twenty20, half the number that pitched for matches at the 2007 World Cup.

Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis and St Lucia met the deadline of November 18 for submitting their bids and will now wait to find out the results. Three venues are required to host the event and the ICC will make the final decision on which bids are successful.

"The organising committee met in Barbados last week and have made their recommendations to the ICC," an official source told the CMC Sports Wire.

"It must be stressed that the organising committee is only in a position to make recommendations, and it is up to the ICC to make the final decision about the host venues."

West Indies were due to host the Champions Trophy in 2010, but the postponement of the 2008 edition in Pakistan until next year means the same tournament would have been held twice within nine months.

The switch will still mean two of the same global events will be held within a year of each other - England host the second World Twenty20 in June 2009 - but the ICC will regulate the calender and the Twenty20 will be played every two years in future.

Why did TT not bid. Were they expecting the gov't to do the bidding? How is it done? I can't understand this. We can more than host 20/20.
