Carlos Edwards admits to Ipswich Town doubt
BBC Sport

Carlos Edwards admits he had worried about the impact he could have on the Ipswich Town first team this season.

The 31-year-old winger's Town career has been blighted with injury since he arrived from Sunderland last season.

He told BBC Radio Suffolk: "I had doubts in my mind I may not be playing a big part this season.

"But I pushed myself as hard as I could to make sure the manager sees I'm back to the old Carlos he had at Sunderland when we pushed for promotion."

The Trinidadian, who has gone on to become an integral part of Roy Keane's side's impressive start to the season, says a number of factors could have brought on his lack of self-confidence.

"Maybe the age factor, and seeing the poor season I had last year," he added.

"I had loads of time over the summer to sit down and see what I did wrong.

"You're never too old to learn and I think I'm still learning."

But Edwards has been in fine form this campaign, something he puts down to his recent marriage.

The former Luton man tied the knot in Port of Spain in May.

"I'm feeling recharged, I think being married has put that extra spark in me," he said.

"Maybe I should have got married long before. I'm enjoying myself and it pays off having a god pre-season."
