Well prelims for day one in the bag with 4 swims and 4 national age group records and 3 final placements. Carter got into two finals and broke a Nicholas Bovell 200 back record, but will scratch the event to attempt to get a medal in the 50 fly in which he managed to qualify 5th despite having swum the 200 back 30 minutes prior. Romany got a George Bovell 200 free record on his way to 5th in the 200 free. Kristen Julien was 13th in the 50 fly which is her weakest event. She managed to break her own national record though so a best time augers well for her 50 free tomorrow and her best event, the 50 back on Sunday.

On the track the results show both Machel Cedenio and Onika Murray in the semis for the men's 400 and the women's 100.

Badminton had a rough day one and have only one of the two mixed doubles team surviving past the second round. All other singles and doubles teams have been eliminated.

Later.
Rugby 7's start tomorrow against England.

Swimming is webcast live on the website http://www.cyg2011.com/ with finals starting at 1 PM TT time.

We got a fourth and a fifth last night. The fellas were disappointed not to have medalled, but at 15 years old, they were youngest in their races as most of the guys are 17 and 18. So we are happy with where we are. Tonight Romany is second going into the 100 free final and Carter is 5th going into the 50 back. FYI, Carter's 50 back time was a full second faster than Christian Homer's age group record, an event which Homer went on to win at the youth olympics at the end of his junior swimming career.

Kristen Julien was 11th in the 50 free and .16 outside of 8th and the finals. She would have understood now, just how much attention must be placed on details. She too is 15 and will learn, as she has her best event tomorrow.
Success will never take you by surprise.

Romany missed a medal by .08 in the 100 free. He was so close. Carter was 6th in the 50 back. All 3 got back in the finals for tonight. Kristen in her best event, the 50 backstroke, was 7th and got the national open record. Carter was 3rd going into the 100 back finals in a national record again. Romany is 4th going into the 50 free tonight. We getting something special, despite the stormy weather outside.
