Away goals rule .............. it applies right ?
« on: November 15, 2005, 07:18:19 AM »
Look I not stupid but I was arguing with man who saying the away goal rule does not apply because of a quote he see in Newsday from Dwight

"We must stay focussed, count on the support from our fans and play at a maximum level. At the end of the 90 minutes if we don’t get a result, we go into extra-time and if there is no winner we go into penalties," said Yorke.

That must be wrong ?

does anyone have a link to the rules that I could show this guy ?

bredda it have a reason that quote only in the newsday :rotfl: :rotfl: the newsday is the closest thing to the Blast without getting cruddy fanatic and paranoid. tell him switch to express or come and watch the board, since he obviously don't know anything, don't type. FIFA is FIFA everywhere in the world even in Bahrain

Away goal rules...

Right now Bahrain leading the series 2-1 so a 0-0 tie will send them through....

1-1 will go in to penalties... also, any tie higher than 1-1 will send us through...

And of course any win will send us through as well....

I believe that a 1-1 tie takes us to extra-time before penalties.

No mor Golden Goals. FIFA get rid of that after Euro 2000. Is full extra- time.

I think they changed it to the silver goal rule. Can't be to sure. Whoever scores the most goals in both halves of extra times wins. If it's still tied after extra time ... then it's penalties.

But i'm not positive.

No golden or silver goal, straight extra time.

The rules in the Tournament itself may be different however.

I wouldn't say that Bahrain is leading 2-1. Saying that is like counting each away goal as 2 goals, which is not really the case, or else we could lose 4-3 tomorrow and still be in it----- which is obviously not the case.

Currently, we are tied at 1 a piece. At this point in time, we don't need to be too concerned with the away goals rule. If at the end of the 90 mins tomorrow, we are tied, then you can consider them to have been up 2-1. The away goals rule only applies if the aggregate is tied after the full 180 minutes of football.

You can look at it how ever you want, but I don't agree with considering away goals rule before the game even begins. Our priority should be:

1. Win on aggregate (in this case, win by at least one goal.....win)...

and if not,

2. Score more goals on the road than Bahrain did, without losing. (a 2-2 tie or higher)

Correct
the away goals rule only comes into consideration when the score is tied on aggregate
so right now we tied 1-1
however, we need to score a goal in Bahrain to nullify the one they score here
