T&T AND THE U-20 WORLD CUP!
« on: June 22, 2005, 10:24:24 AM »
In light of what Don Leo was able to do with our national senior team over the past couple of months, one can conclude that as a country we do have good players but might be lacking in the coaching arena.

Would T&T be participating in the current U-20 world if we had done the same and hired a qualified foreign coach to work the team during the qualification stage?

dozens of well educated coaches at the club level would do the trick rather than the messianic approach we seem to prefer.

my opinion only Works if they begin preparing for these tournaments earlier than a month before
money, friendlies overseas tours, live in camps etc otherwise same result local or foreign coach. although a foreign coach would not be biased in his selection.

Our under 20 players are not professionals.

They are schoolboys and have exams and lessons.

Most of them have other options besides playing ball.....many of them use their talent to get to a US college, not to play in the PFL.

Even at under 20 mankind have to get a wuk and find a source of income.

This is the reality of the situation.

Other teams who compete in the WC and do well are those with players in established clubs academies

For the rest of the teams who qualify and get licks those teams have a constant team in training going on tours playing friendlies etc.

All TT has is a one month camp thrown together hurriedly before a tournament.

Only a fool would turn down a professional in Ricky Shakes. 11 goals is what a fool gets

Pretty harsh comments, especially after some think that we have "dozens of coaches at the club level that can do the trick".  Would Ricky shakes have made a difference in a team that played against cuba and A couple of local teams lading up to the USA game, who by the way played numerous international friendlies in Europe and South America.  Does being a prifessional gives you an automatic selection into our national teams.  I saw a post this morning where someone was criticizing a four year old kid for the way he was receiving the football - we come from a very harsh society that is willing to label and condemn those we diagree with, rather than provide constructive criticism and respect the professional decisions of others dspite how we feel about them personally.

If you talking about a professional footballer from a good league demonstrating committment to the team versus a bunch of schoolboys then yes the professional should be selected automatically.  No maths in dat.
Senior team is a different story, everyone is a professional footballer.
