UNBEATEN WASA FC comfortably got past Tobago's 1976 Phoenix at St Joseph for the second successive season on Wednesday when they came away with a commanding 4-1 victory which sent them to the top of the bmobile National Super League standings.
WASA benefitted from a slip by previous leaders Defence Force, who reached a high in beating Joe Public last week only to fall 2-0 to M&M Harvard on Wednesday.
WASA's fourth victory of the season moved them to 15 points from seven matches, two ahead of Joe Public and three clear of both Harvard and Defence Force.
The new leaders had an early two-goal advantage against Phoenix, getting a 29th minute opener through Michael Celestine, a former national under-23 player, before winger Keston Thomas struck in the 37th minute. Junior Roberts (40th) then put Phoenix back in the game as the home team went in leading 2-1 at the half.
Mervyn Brooks then netted four minutes into the second half to give WASA a 3-1 lead, before Celestine got his second of the match when scoring two minutes from the end.
