Is a Rangers/Celtic situation coming in Trinidad football?
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:51:08 AM »
I see how Jabloteh recently "captured" two young talents from NE Stars, their local team which did very well in the PFL last year.  Are we seeing the beginning of a Rangers/Celitc situation in Trinidad where a couple big money teams buy all the promising young talent from the smaller teams, then leave them on the bench with very little playing time due to the great squad they have already assembled?  At the same time the smaller teams have no shot of winning the title as all the talent is stockpiled on the big guns' squads?

What do people think about this? Are W Connection and Jabloteh starting down a Rangers/Celtic route?  And is this good for Trinidad football?

Where have you been man

This has been the case for most of the PFL is only recently North East ketch a vaps and win the league

Wconnection Jabloteh was basically the 2 teams with a chance to win.

Also it has been 4 years and Tobago United has not won a game yet

That have to be a record in FIFA some where

I think Jabloteh's philospohy and more specifically that of its Manager - Jerry Hospedales, has been to gather as much of the TT players with chances of getting a foreign contract, as that is the only way the club and by extension its sponsors can get a return on the investment of the  millions pf dollars they pump into the team, by the transfer fees thay are paid. Just look at where most of the recent exports from local football have come from.

I just hope that Northeast Stars and de smaller clubs are smart and have a sell on clause on de sale so as to get a pieceof de pie when players do move abroad...

If Jabloteh and W Connection is no different from Rangers/Celtic, Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea
No Different than Real Madrid, Barca
Juve, the Milans etc

The bottom like is money talks. The teams with the most money buy or attempt to buy the best talent.

I think in the case of Jabloteh they are more concerned with getting the best talent not necessarily putting them on the bench just to win the league cause after all the league money is peanuts. They get best players in the hopes of grooming them then selling them...they've made no secret about that.

An added bonus would be to perform well in the CONCACAF championship and hopefully make it to the World Club Championship but selling players is an investment. They need to make money or go the way of the teams that already folded.

Business is Business :)

we need some new investors in the pro league, our teams are becoming like we politics a two party system, we need new investors to challenge these teams, so it becomes more competitive and more players are developed.

Is just the inevitable price that smaller clubs have to pay.  Predatory practices will always be a part of the business.  The problem that I have with it is that the PFL needs a bit more parity if it is to improve in quality, and such practices are not going to help the league in its appeal to fans.  Who wants to watch a highly-predictable two horse race every season.  The smaller clubs are up against the odds when they face the "Big Two".  It was nice to see Petrotrin win the Big Six, for a change.

i think parity will come in a few years time when the pro league market the league properly and  sponsors start to put more money into the league

jabloteh is doing the right thing,....you dont build a winning football club by buying bad players
