ESPN International holds exclusive pay video rights throughout the Americas, in all languages across all pay video distribution platforms (pay TV, broadband Internet, and mobile devices), to the UEFA Champions League from Match Day 1 through the Final, for the 2006-2007 through the 2008-2009 seasons, for a period of 24 hours after kickoff of each match, via an agreement with Swiss sports marketing agency TEAM Marketing AG.
In the US, ESPN2 is required to air at least 13 matches live each season, with first pick of live match telecasts on each match day. ESPN360.com will simulcast each ESPN2 live telecast via broadband Internet.
ESPN International has sublicensed the second pick of live match telecasts in the US on each match day to Setanta Sports North America. Setanta Sports USA and Setanta Broadband will air the second choice live match.
ESPN Deportes will air 77 matches each season in the US in Spanish, with up to 25 matches live. ESPN Deportes will have the third pick of live match telecasts. ESPN360.com will simulcast each ESPN Deportes live telecast via broadband Internet.
Setanta Premium will offer matches involving Celtic of Scotland, plus matches involving Portuguese and Greek clubs, via closed-circuit TV to commercial establishments in the US and Canada if ESPN2 does not pick one of those matches for live broadcast.
In Canada, TSN (English) and RDS (French) will each air at least 25 matches, while TLN (Italian) will air all matches involving Italian teams plus the final.
After the exclusive 24-hour window has expired, each team is allowed by UEFA to distribute its UEFA Champions League matches on its own team-branded TV and broadband video networks to viewers worldwide.
